Wilma Schoonover
LEBANON, Tenn. - Wilma Schoonover, 75, of Lebanon, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at her home.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Michael and Chrissi Schoonover, Tim and Lydia Schoonover, and Phil and Cindi Schoonover; two daughters and their husbands, Chrisanne and Carl Ferry and Angela and Charlie Helmstetter; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pete and Earl Hansen; one sister, Laverna Branson. and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday in St. Stephens Church, Old Hickory, Tenn.
Memorial donations may be made to Odessey Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were by Crawford Mortuary and Crematory, Lebanon.
Christopher G. Biggi
HAMPTON FALLS - Christopher G. Biggi, 57, of Sunset Ridge Farm, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born June 23, 1945, in Boston, the son of the late Harrison and Ann (Hayes) Biggi. He was raised in Lexington, Mass.
He was a graduate of Holderness Academy, Wolfeboro, and attended Boston University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. Biggi founded Sunset Ridge Recording at his home in Hampton Falls in 1982. He recorded many local and nationally recognized artists. He began his career as a recording engineer in Boston producing folk music in 1968. He was previously an Emergency Room attendant at Amesbury Hospital for 15 years.
He was a former member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment in Hampton Falls and enjoyed photography.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Pamela (Geerds) Biggi of Hampton Falls.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Burial will follow in Hampton Falls.

Joyce N. Coburn
HAMPTON - Joyce N. Coburn, 59, of 495 Exeter Road, died Monday, June 16, 2003, in Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston.
She is survived by her husband, George F. Coburn.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Minnie A. Crane
EXETER - Graveside services for Minnie A. Crane will be held Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m. in Exeter Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Drouin of St. Michael Church, Exeter, will officiate.
Miss Crane died March 16, 2003.
Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
Frederick E. Knochen
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Frederick E. Knochen, 69, of 5100 Estero Blvd., formerly of Hampton, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at his home in Fort Myers.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joanna M. (Wisler) Knochen.

Russell P. Merrill
HAMPTON FALLS - Russell P. "Punky" Merrill, 80, of 5 Kensington Road, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare.
He was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of the late Russell P. and Elizabeth (Cutts) Merrill.
He was a graduate of Hampton Academy and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He served with the U.S. Naval Reserves and the Seabees for 20 years.
Mr. Merrill owned and operated R.P. Merrill & Son General Store, a three-generation business established by his grandfather. For many years, the business housed the post office with Mr. Merrill serving as postmaster. He also served as an agent for New Hampshire state hunting and fishing licenses. The business was sold in the mid-1980s, when Mr. Merrill retired.
He was a state representative for Hampton Falls during the early 1960s and was a founding member of the Hampton Falls Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of St. James Lodge No. 102 F&AM of Hampton, a 55-year member of Hampton Falls Grange No. 171; a member of the Daniel Boone Club, the North Hampton Road & Gun Club, a life member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the Hampton American Legion Post No. 35.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty H. (Furneaux) Merrill of Hampton Falls; three sons, Robert A. Wooles and Mark D. Wooles, both of Hampton Falls, and Jeffrey B. Merrill of Stateline, Nev.; one daughter, Gayle Perkins of Wilton; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, George F. Merrill of Hampton Falls; three sisters, Marjorie Davies and Cynthia Trumbull, both of Hampton Falls, and Caroline Travato of Armonk, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Elks) Merrill.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 1 p.m. to the hour of the service.

Rev. John Papandrew
RYE - The Rev. John Papandrew, 81, Unitarian Universalist minister and minister emeritus at South Church, Portsmouth, died Friday, June 13, 2003.
He was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Manchester, the son of Vassileos "William" and Evangelia Papandrew. He was raised in Exeter.
He attended Exeter High School, where he was the center on the football team. He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Harvard Divinity School. He was ordained as a Unitarian minister in 1955. He received his master’s degree from Goddard College in Vermont.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II serving as a member of the 15th Air Force Squadron based in Italy. He was a tail-gunner in a B17 and flew 50 combat missions over eastern Europe. His squadron was protected by the Tuskegee Airmen. He was later invited to address a reunion of the Tuskegee Airmen in Washington, D.C.
Rev. Papandrew served many congregations, including South Church in Portsmouth. He was associate minister at Community Church of New York City; in South Miami, Fla., All Souls Church; Washington, D.C.; Provincetown, Mass.; Smithton, Pa., and Leominster, Mass., and was the summer minister in North Hatley, Quebec. At age 12, he drove the truck for his father’s bleach delivery route in Exeter.
While at South Church he helped to found Seacoast Mental Health Center.
He was a member of the ACLU and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He marched in the Selma-to-Montgomery walk and attended the March on Washington. He had just had dinner with Jim Reeb the night that Jim was attacked and murdered. He went to jail with Martin Luther King Jr. and others, and helped to break down the color barrier from the barbershops of Portsmouth to the dining room at Wentworth-By-The-Sea hotel. He was also active in the plight of Native Americans and abortion rights.
He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The widower of Betty (Hilliard) Papandrew, he is survived by one son and his wife, Jonathan and Jody Papandrew of Rye; one daughter, Dawn D’Andrea of Rhode Island, and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Jane.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Unitarian Universalist Church, (South Church) 292 State Street, Portsmouth.

John L. Pease
HAVERHILL, Mass. - John L. Pease, 44, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in Haverhill, after a sudden illness.
He was born Jan. 26, 1959, in Exeter, the son of the late Ernest and Emma A. (Gendron) Pease Sr., and had resided in Haverhill for 20 years.
Mr. Pease formerly worked in the construction field.
He is survived by one brother and his wife, Ernest and Sandy Pease Jr. of Exeter.
There are no services planned at this time.

Francis L. Thibodeau
SEABROOK - Francis L. Thibodeau, 78, of 11 Pickens Ave., died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Country Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Newburyport, Mass.
He was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late Hector and Adeline (O’Brien) Thibodeau.
He was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Syracuse University.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater.
Mr. Thibodeau was a facilities-management officer for IRS in Andover, Mass., and Portsmouth, retiring in 1979. He later worked as an auditor for the state of New Hampshire.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. He taught religious education at Sacred Heart Parish in Amesbury, Mass., many years ago and was active with the Boy Scouts serving as Scoutmaster, and was a former member of the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post 70.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth A. (Clarke) Thibodeau; three sons, David H. Thibodeau of Boston, Philip J. Thibodeau and Jeffrey A. Thibodeau, both of Seabrook; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa J. Goddard of Manchester, Aline A. and Donald Cross of Hatboro, Pa., and Deirdre L. and John Greene of Seabrook; four grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Hummrich of Duxbury, Mass., and Anita Palmeiri of Lynn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Andrew , Hector and George Thibodeau; and one sister, Emelda Halloran.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church.

Harriet Varney
NEWMARKET - Harriet Varney, 92, of 39 Exeter St., died Saturday, June 14, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.
She was born Jan 26, 1911, in Newmarket, the daughter of the late Jessie and Anne (Lamie) Carpenter.
She was a graduate of Newmarket High School and attended the University of New Hampshire.
Mrs. Varney and her late husband owned and operated the former Colonial Luncheonette in Newmarket from the 1940s until the mid-1960s. She later worked for the Newmarket school lunch program for several years.
Her hate husband managed the coastal parks in New Hampshire and they were the last residents of Odiorne State Park in Rye.
The widow of Kenneth M. Varney, who died in 1979, she is survived by one son and his wife, Kenneth M. and Shirley Varney Jr. of Madbury; two daughters, Jan V. Philbrick and husband Roger of Rye and Jacquelyn Walsh of Newmarket; one daughter-in-law, Pamela Varney of Lampasa, Tex.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John Carpenter of Newmarket; one sister, Doris Fowler of Concord; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Ronald C. Varney, and two grandchildren, Kim Varney and Ethan Philbrick.
There are no calling hours.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.
