William A. Alex Sr.
EXETER - William A. Alex Sr., 81, of 7 Ash St., died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1921, in Brockton, Mass, the son of the late Vincent and Christine (Constatine) Alex. He resided in San Francisco for 35 years before coming to Exeter.
He was a graduate of Brockton High School.
Mr. Alex was a lead mechanic for United Airlines.
He was a member of the Cape Cod Cloud Chasers, a model airplane club.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia L. (Reardon) Alex of Exeter; two sons, William A. Alex Jr. of Seattle, Wash., and David M. Alex of California; one daughter, Beverly A. Alex of Exeter; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon in the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. Burial will follow in Exeter Cemetery.

Shirley E. Corning
PORTSMOUTH - Shirley E. Corning, 87, formerly of Hampton, died Friday, June 20, 2003, in St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua.
She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in East Kingston, the daughter of the late Robert and Geneva (Miles) Baldwin and had been a lifelong Seacoast resident.
She was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a master’s degree in languages.
Mrs. Corning was a bookkeeper for Seaward Construction Co. of Kittery, Maine.
Following her retirement she was a volunteer with the American Heart Association in Portsmouth, the Portsmouth High School Library and Odiorne Point State Park.
She was a member of Greenland Congregational Church and assisted with its rummage and plant sales, Christmas fairs and helping in the kitchen at church suppers.
She enjoyed crafting, reading and sewing, traveling with Elder Hostel to Japan, Scotland and England.
She is survived by two sons, Albert L. Young Jr. of Cocoa, Fla., and Carl J. Corning of Colfax, Wash.; two daughters, Phylllis E. Snow and Terryann Munroe, both of Nashua; one stepson, Alfred H. Corning Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held in High Street Cemetery, Hampton. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Association for the Blind, The Christian Appalachian Project, St. Joseph Hospital or to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of New Hampshire.
John F. Douglas
NORTH HAMPTON - John F. Douglas, of 72 Lafayette Road, died May 24, 2003, in Titusville, Fla., following a period of failing health.
He was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Boston and had resided in North Hampton since 1950, coming from Haverhill, Mass. He was raised from a very young age by Mrs. Joanne Taylor of Mill Road, North Hampton. Since his retirement, he wintered in Florida.
He was a 1951 graduate of Haverhill Trade School and a U.S. Army veteran serving in 1954-55 in Goose Bay, Labrador.
Mr. Douglas was the service manager at Simmons and Sons Golf Carts, North Hampton. He had previously been employed as a master mechanic at Ken’s Garage in North Hampton, and had worked at Hampton Center Ford Garage and Filley’s Marine in North Hampton.
He was a founding member of the North Hampton Snow Finders Snowmobile Club; a member of the American Legion, Post No. 1, Titusville; and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Mims, Fla.
He was known as a man that could fix anything, enjoyed going to yard sales, spending time with friends and restoring old automobiles.
He is survived by one sister, Priscilla Dockham of Hampton.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Congregational Church, 127 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, the with Rev. Deborah B. Knowlton officiating.

Rosamond Hughes
GREENLAND - Rosamond Hughes, 96, of 115 Tuttle Lane, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation in Exeter.
She was born March 21, 1907, in Greenland, the daughter of the late John and Annie (Ireland) Chapman and was a lifelong resident of Greenland.
She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School.
Mrs. Hughes and her late husband ran a small dairy farm in Greenland. Following his death in 1982, she donated several acres of land to the New Hampshire Society for the Preservation of Forests.
She was an active member of Greenland Community Congregational Church and the Women’s Alliance of the church.
She was an avid walker, enjoyed bird watching, reading and spending time at Weeks Public Library.
The widow of Herman F. Hughes, she is survived by two sons and their wives, Lloyd C. and Hazel Hughes and Robin and Dorothy Hughes, all of Rye; one daughter and her husband, Carolyn H. and Alden Marshall of Hudson; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Amos Chapman.
Private graveside services will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Greenland, at the convenience of the family.

Margaret E. Hunt
EXETER - Margaret E. Hunt, 86, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health.
She was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Merrimack, the daughter of the late Roy H. and Agnes (Murphy) Hoyt and was a lifelong resident of Exeter, residing at Hayes Park and 277 Water St.
Mrs. Hunt was a donation coordinator at Exeter Hospital for 25 years.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter, and a member of the Granite State Grange in Newton.
She enjoyed knitting and reading.
The widow of Russell R. Hunt, who died in 1991, she is survived by one son and his wife, David and Janice Hunt of Exeter; five grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Exeter Cemetery.

Charles L. Stracke
RAYMOND - Charles L. Stracke, 57, of Blueberry Hill Road, died Monday, June 23, 2003, in Elliot Hospital, Manchester.
He was born Oct. 1, 1945, in Bay Shore, N.Y., the son of Charles J. Stracke of Dania, Fla., and Carolyn Stracke of Wilmington, N.C.
He was a highly decorated U.S. Navy veteran for 20 years, serving in the Korean War and three tours in Vietnam.
Mr. Stracke was a machinist for Foss Manufacturing, Hampton, since 1987.
He was a member of the Richard A. Mitchell Post 51 American Legion in Epping, and enjoyed building cars and working on engines.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 23 years, Donna L. (Morrill) Stracke of Raymond; one son, David Stracke of Roanoke, Va.; one daughter, Andrea Smith-Arevalo of Huntsville, Ala.; two stepdaughters, Ann Roman and Michelle Eaton, both of Raymond; one stepson, Matthew Sweeney of Manchester; six grandchildren; two sisters, Cheryl Collins of East Hampton and Cindy Lafleur of Wilmington, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Raymond Congregational Church, Church Street, Raymond, with the Rev. Neil Iverson officiating.

Jean Margaret (Kincaid) Cook
EXETER - Jean Margaret (Kincaid) Cook, 53, of Carroll Street, died Friday, June 20, 2003, in Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Amesbury, Mass., the daughter of the late Donald S. and Margaret (Digby) Kincaid and had resided in the Exeter area for 27 years.
Mrs. Cook was employed by local retail and financial establishments.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a member of the Diabetic Support Group.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Robert R. Cook Sr. of Exeter; one stepdaughter, Sheila Chase of Seabrook; one stepson, Robert R. Cook Jr. of Stratham; three sisters, Cynthia Knapp of Rye, Laura Vogithe of Birmingham, Ala., and Susan Chiang of Maryland; one brother, Donald Kincaid of Waynesville, Ohio; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Ronald A. Divone
NORTH HAMPTON - Ronald A. Divone, 69, of 115 Lafayette Road, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, in East Quague, N.Y.
He was born April 19, 1934, in College Point, N.Y., the son of the late Anthony F. and Bertha (Barrett) Divone and had resided in the Seacoast area for many years, living in Hampton and most recently in North Hampton.
He was a 1952 graduate of Flushing (N.Y.) High School and studied law at Queens College in Queens, N.Y.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Divone was a car transporter for Foss Motors in Exeter and the Automobile Superstore in Stratham.
He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons; was a life member of the National Rifle Association; and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Divone; three sons, Ronald A. Divone II and David H. Divone, both of Hampton, and Michael E. Divone of Wenham, Mass.; two daughters, Cynthia Zimmerman of East Quague and Lori Martin of Schenectady, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Divone of Albany, N.Y.; one sister, Virginia Lueck of College Point, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Ralph M. Knight
NEWMARKET - Ralph M. Knight, 82, of Packers Falls Road, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
He was born Dec. 26, 1920, in Indianapolis, the son of Carl and Mary (Faulkner) Knight and had resided in Newmarket since 1947.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific on a submarine.
Mr. Knight was a tool and die maker at General Electric in Somersworth for 33 years.
He was a life member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post No. 67, and served as commander, vice commander, treasurer, and trustee and had served on the executive board; commander of Submarine Veterans of World War II for Maine and New Hampshire for eight years; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10676 where he served as quartermaster until his illness. He volunteered at the Navy Museum at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and was a member of the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Muriel (Haley) Knight of Newmarket; two sons, Alan E. Knight of Alexandria, Va., and Robert A. Knight of Littleton; three grandchildren; one sister, Helen Murphy of Phoenix; two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket, with the Rev. David Wuori officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.
