E. Katherine Etter, 81, of Bartlett died April 28, 2001 at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Conway following a long illness. Mrs. Etter was the daughter of Walter N. and Henrietta (Nolan) Trecarten Sr. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1938 and attended Bliss Business College in Lewiston, Maine.
Mrs. Etter had been a practical nurse and had worked in the office of Dr. Stuart Falk in Bristol, Conn., for many years, before retiring and moving back to Bartlett. She had worked for the Carroll County Independent in North Conway and had been a Bartlett reporter for the former Reporter Press in North Conway and for the Conway Daily Sun.
She was a member of the Union Congregational Church in Bartlett and very active with the "Church Mice." She was also a volunteer at the Gibson Center for Senior Services in North Conway.
The family includes: her sister, Helen Mead of East Hartford, Conn.; four nieces, Margaret E. Fish and Jane E. Clemons, both of Bartlett, Marsha Lebre of Paris, France and Mary E. Dansinghani of East Hartford, Conn.; two nephews, W. Neil Trecarten III of Colchester, Conn. and Frank H. Trecarten of Tacoma, Wash., and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Etter, in 1972 and her brother, Walter N. "Bud" Trecarten Jr., in 1980.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church in Bartlett. Burial will be in the Bartlett Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Bailey R. Frank, 87, formerly of St. Johnsbury, Vt. passed away at Fletcher Allen Health Care on April 27, 2001 after a brief illness.
Bailey was born in Rutland, Vt. on April 21, 1914, son of Samuel Frank and Anna Goldstone Frank. He attended Rutland schools and the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a quartermaster. For over 50 years he wrote the column "The Skies Today" for papers all over the U.S. and Canada. He was always a friend to people in need and often visited folks in nursing homes.
He is survived by his five children: Dorothy Perkins of St. Albans, Vt.; Carol Jones of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; Samuel W. Frank of New Castle, Va.; Michael Frank of Florence, Ariz.; and Phyllis Parent of Essex Junction, Vt. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, a nephew, and cousins.

Katherine (Oomant) Montgomery, 98, of Ossipee and Sanbornville, died on Sunday at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee. She moved to Sanbornville five years ago from Weymouth, Mass., where she had resided for more than 20 years. She was a prior resident of Cambridge, Mass.
She was a retired employee of the Stop and Shop Company in Cambridge where she had been a cashier.
She was a member of the Union Towers Association at Weymouth Landing, Mass., and was a member of the Union Congregational Church of Weymouth and Braintree, Mass. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #206 Radiant Star Lodge of North Quincy, Mass. She was a member of the Past Noble Grands Association of Greater Boston and the J.J. Club of the South Shore in Massachusetts.
She was the wife of the late Joseph H. Montgomery; she is survived by a son, William S. Montgomery of Norwell, Mass. She was the mother of the late Joseph H. Montgomery Jr. She is survived by several grandchildren including Janet Carpenter of Carver, Mass., Kathleen Montgomery-Graves of Victoria, British Columbia, William S. Montgomery Jr. of Weymouth, Mass., Susan Montgomery of Weymouth, Mass., Spike Montgomery of Largo, Fla., Stephanie Montgomery, and Star Kingsbury of Rochester. She was the mother-in-law of Sandra Montgomery of Sanbornville.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 870 Broad Street, Jackson Square, East Weymouth, Mass. on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Earl E. Alger, pastor of the Union Congregational Church of Weymouth and Braintree, will officiate. Burial will be in the Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass.
Visiting hours will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial donations may be sent to the donor's favorite charity.
Bruce A. Steeves, 74, of Freedom, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2001 at the Mercy Hospital, Portland, Maine after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 7, 1937 in Malden, Mass., the son of the late Herbert and Emma (Harrison) Steeves. Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Aug. 1, 1954 where he served until 1957 and later transferred to the U.S. Navy, Submarine Division in 1963, retiring as Chief Petty Officer E7. He served his country during both the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam era. He had been employed as a Postal Clerk in the U.S. Post Office in Conway, where he retired in 1996. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was also a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Center Ossipee.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Ernestine (Murphy) Steeves, Freedom; three sons Keith Steeves of Conway, Garrick Steeves of Freedom, and Craig Steeves of Dotham, Ala.; two daughters, Kim Steeves of Niantic, Conn., and Sharon Walters of Farmington; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Harrison Steeves of Lynn, Mass., and Warren Steeves, of Berwick, Maine; two sisters Dorothy Boudreaux of Hampton and Constance Slattery of Rochester.
Calling hours will be Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Freedom.
Norma J. McAllister, 55, of North Chatham died Sunday, April 29, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway after a short illness. She was born in North Conway, the daughter of Sumner and Marjorie Jefferson Layne. At the age of six Norma's family moved to North Chatham, and she graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1963. She then went to beautician school and worked in Portland for a few years.
Norma married Wayne McAllister in September of 1965, and in 1969 bought a farm which she and her husband operated. Besides her husband she is survived by one son Wayne A. McAllister Jr., two daughters Karen McAllister and Patricia Pitman, both of North Chatham, one grandson Riley Pitman of North Chatham, three brothers James Layne of North Chatham, Edward Layne of Fryeburg, and Bruce Layne of Oklahoma City.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are with Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.
CENTER CONWAY -- Elizabeth "Betty" (Harvey) Lasselle, 88, of Center Conway, died April 28, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
Born in Westboro, Mass., on Dec. 28, 1912, she was the eldest daughter of Emory L. and Luta (Grimes) Harvey. She attended Westboro schools, Northfield Seminary in Northfield, Mass., and graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass., class of 1931. She attended Emerson College in Boston.
Betty enjoyed many years as a religious education director in some of the greater Boston area Unitarian churches. Those towns being Concord, Winchester, Melrose, Stoneham and at the Harvard Square Unitarian Church in Cambridge. The Unitarian Universalist Association also employed her at its headquarters on Beacon Street in Boston as an assistant director in the curriculum department. She was past president of the Unitarian Sunday School Society, and also past president of the continental organization of the Liberal Religious Education Directors' Association, or LREDA. She was a past matron of the Melrose Chapter 14 Order of Eastern Star; past member of the Melrose DAR chapter; past president of the Stoneham Women's Club; was an active member of the Massachusetts State Federation of Women's Clubs in Stoneham, Mass., where she had been a long-time resident; and was past president of the auxiliary of the New England Memorial Hospital.
She had lived in Center Conway for the past three years.
She leaves her husband of 65 years, Ralph, of Center Conway; a son, Jon, and his wife, of Merrimack, NH; a daughter, Jane Lasselle, of Center Conway; three grandsons, Jon Edward Jr., William and Jeffery; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and James Harvey, and two sisters, Alma O'Neil and Martha Smith, all of Westboro, Mass.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Westboro. The Rev. Eugene Narvias, associate minister emeritus of the Arlington Street Church in Boston, a long-time friend and colleague, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty's name might be made to the Conway Rescue, Conway, NH 03818, or to the Gibson Center for Senior Services, Main Street, North Conway, NH 03860.

OSSIPEE ó Bruce C. Morse, 71, of Upper Beachum Hill Road in Ossipee, died April 26, 2001, at the Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
Born July 16, 1929, in Quincy, Mass., son of the late Bruce and Evelyn (Shafer) Morse, he had lived in Ossipee for the last 16 years, previously living in Newton, NH.
Mr. Morse retired from the U.S. Army, serving in both the Vietnam and Korean wars. He worked for General Electric in Lynn, Mass; he was the woodsman at the Heritage in Glen; drove Molley the Trolley in Wolfeboro; and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ipswich, Mass.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Finniss) Morse, of Ossipee; two stepsons, Mark Busch, of Newton, NH, and Steven Busch, of Brentwood, NH; a stepdaughter, Lisa Tremblay, of Sandown, NH; a sister, Estelle Loughner, of Revere, Mass.; and five step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 2, at 3 p.m. at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Route 16, West Ossipee. Rev. Wilbur Hartford, pastor of the Tuftonboro United Methodist Church, will officiate.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Charles F. Brown, 69, of Conway, died April 27, 2001, at his home following a long illness.
Born in Springfield, Mass., the son of Charles and Irene (Barnes) Brown Sr., he lived in Ossipee for 14 years before moving to Conway in 1998.
Mr. Brown had been a radio radar technician at Logan Airport for 26 years with Eastern Airlines. He owned and operated the Brass Caboose Hobby Store in North Conway in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
He was a member of the North Conway Model Railroad Club and a member of the Center Ossipee Fire Department for many years.
The family includes: his wife of 38 years, Judith (Low) Brown of Conway; two sons, Christopher R. Brown of Westmoreland and Jeffrey C. Brown of Freedom; a son from a former marriage, Daniel C. Brown of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; a daughter from a former marriage, Laura Brown of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Macdonald of Springfield, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. Private family services will be held at a later date.

James E. Byrne Jr., 22, of Hanson, Mass., died suddenly on April 23, 2001, in New York.
He was born in Boston and was a lifelong resident of Hanson. He graduated from Whitman Hanson High School in 1996 and was a member of the wrestling team there. He received his B.A. degree in communication design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, in May of 2000. He was a freelance designer who most recently worked at the International Toy Shows in New York City.
Mr. Byrne was an avid snowboarder and skateboarder. He wintered in Intervale. He was known for his sense of humor and practical jokes.
He was the son of James E. and Terese "T" (Montavon) Byrne of Hanson; the brother of Lee Byrne of Hanson and Lisa McManus of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; grandson of Marie Montavon of DeKalb, Ill.; and the uncle of Patrick, Jack and Connor McManus. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a devoted friend of Claire Huntington, of Carmel, Calif.
Funeral will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, South Weymouth, Mass. Funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan Street, Hanson, at 2 p.m. Visiting hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
