Julienne Dora Eldridge
ROCHESTER - Julienne Dora Eldridge, 79, of 18 North Fuchsia Drive passed away May 15, 2003, in Winchester, Va.
Born Jan. 10, 1924, in Manchester, she was the daughter of Alfred and Rose (Boudreau) Gagne. She was raised in Hampton Beach and attended Hampton Schools. She was a longtime resident of Rollinsford, from 1955-1984, moving to Rochester in 1984. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #47 and she was a member of the 8-40. She was past department president of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Julie was employed by Davidson Rubber Co., retiring in 1988.
Survivors include her loving husband of 19 years, Lester F. Eldridge of Rochester; one son, Michael Suprin of Rollinsford; four daughters, Mrs. Patricia Chatigny of Zephyrhills, Fla., Mrs. Constance Netter of Kimball, Minn., Mrs. Diane Maggio of Barrington and Ms. Sandra Bastien of Aitkin, Minn.; one brother, Armand Gagne of Rye Beach; two sisters, Diana LaMontagne of Hampton and Jeanette Wheeler of Seabrook; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Ronald Gagne, and one sister, Connie Burke.
Marie S. Curtin
EXETER - Memorial services for Marie S. Curtin will be held Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Route 88, Exeter.
Helen J. deMariano
HAMPTON - Helen J. deMariano (commander, U.S. Navy, retired), 82, of 22 Tuck Road, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Haven Health of the Seacoast, Hampton.
She was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Boston, the daughter of the late Pasquale G. and Margaret (MacNeil) deMariano. She had resided in Hampton for six years and had lived in New Castle and Portsmouth for more than 30 years.
She was a graduate of Cambridge Nursing School and received a nursing education degree from the University of Minnesota.
Commander deMariano was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as the head operating room nurse at St. Alban’s Hospital in New York and retiring in 1966 after more than 20 years of active service.
She received several decorations and commendations including the United Nations-National Defense Service medal, the Japanese Occupation medal, the Korean Service medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the Navy Unit Commendation.
She was an avid reader and collector. She admired the accomplishments of Amelia Earheart and Charles Lindbergh and was fascinated with subMarines as well as aviation. She collected old marbles and coins.
She is survived by one niece, Elaine Smerlas of Waltham, Mass.; two nephews, Paul D. deMariano of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mark A. deMariano of Dorchester; and several grandnieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Edward P. deMariano, who died in 1990.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In accordance with her wishes, she will be buried at sea.

Edith J. Erickson
EL PASO, Texas - Edith J. Erickson, 89, formerly of Rye, died Monday, May 12, 2003, in El Paso.
She was born Dec. 22, 1913, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Margaret R. (Golden) Drover. She was raised in Boston and lived in Laconia from 1947 until 1975 when she retired to Inverness, Fla. She came to Rye in 1990 to reside with her daughter, moving to El Paso in 1998.
Mrs. Erickson was a graduate of Everett (Mass.) High School.
The widow of Henry W. Erickson, her husband of 64 years who died in 1998, she is survived by one daughter, Jane E. Ireland of Rye; two sons, Carl D. Erickson of El Paso and Paul W. Erickson of Hooksett; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Drover of Monroeville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Alan H. Estey
EXETER - Memorial services for Alan H. Estey will be held Saturday, May 31, at 1 p.m. in Phillips Church, Tan Lane and Front Street, Exeter, with the Rev. Robert Thompson of Phillips Exeter Academy and the Rev. Lillian Buckley of Bow Lake Baptist Church officiating. A reception will follow in the lower level of the church.
Mr. Estey died Dec. 6, 2002, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was a longtime football coach at Phillips Exeter Academy, retiring in 2000 after 31 years of service.

Ralph V. Gould
BASS RIVER, Mass. - Ralph Vincent Gould, 92, died April 10, 2003, in Bass River.
He was born Jan. 20, 1911, in Walpole, Mass., the son of George and Emma Gould.
He left Walpole High School after his sophomore year in 1928 to serve with the U.S. Coast Guard. He attended the sixth class of the FBI National Police Academy in Washington, D.C., in 1937.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Officer Candidate School in South Carolina and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He served with Merrill’s Marauders and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division as provost marshal in Burma, India. He joined the Army Reserves at the end of the war and was recalled to active duty in 1969 to serve as deputy director of the New Hampshire Selective Service System Board during the Vietnam War. He retired as a colonel in 1974.
Mr. Gould built a service station in North Hampton and was elected constable of North Hampton in 1936. In 1937 he began a police training school for law enforcement officers in the Seacoast area. He joined the state police in 1938 and served until 1940 when he became the assistant police chief in North Conway. He served with the Rochester Police Department as the city marshal until 1942.
After the war, he returned to North Hampton and was appointed as a motor vehicle inspector in 1946. He was appointed director of safety in 1949 and in 1961 was appointed as the registrar of motor vehicles, serving until 1967.
Mr. Gould was instrumental in establishing the motor vehicle laws in New Hampshire and helped to establish the motor vehicle title laws to prevent auto theft in the state. He also helped to establish the seat belt and school bus stopping laws.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Concord. He became a licensed lay preacher and was ordained in 1977 at the First Baptist Church in Hampton. He served as pastor of Wilmot Baptist Church in Wilmot Flat during the 1960s and Grace Bible Church in East Kingston in the 1970s.
He was a member of Gideons International.
He enjoyed building and did extensive renovations to his homes in Concord, Pembroke and Hampton on Boar’s Head.
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Barbara (Reynolds) Gould of Bass River; one son, R. Wayne Gould of Rye; one daughter, Sandra Zaccardi of West Wareham, Mass.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Gould of Pembroke; and two sisters, Barbara Fillmore of Melbourne, Fla., and Virginia Divine of Foxboro, Mass.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 62 years, Olive (Ferguson) Gould, who died in 1995.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 24, at 11 a.m. in the Methodist Church in Bass River.

Anna E. MacDonald
HAMPTON - Anna E. "Nana" MacDonald, 85, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at her home.
She was born July 28, 1917, in Boston, the daughter of the late Walter F. and Anna E. (Lailer) Lord. She was raised in Dorchester, Mass., resided in Randolph, Mass. , for seven years, moving to Hampton in 1955.
She was educated in Dorchester schools.
Mrs. MacDonald was a bookkeeper at Seacoast Health Center, Hampton.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, and St. Elizabeth Church in Seabrook.
She enjoyed selling homemade crafts and working as a seamstress.
The widow of Joseph E. MacDonald, her husband of 53 years, she is survived by two sons, Michael J. MacDonald Sr. and Joseph E. MacDonald Jr., both of Hampton; three daughters, Helen J. Shipley of Carl Junction, Mo., Mary E. Snaith of Spring City, Pa., and Judith A. Borland of Phoenixville, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Church, Route 1A, Seabrook Beach. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.

Wesley T. Moore Jr.
METHUEN, Mass. - Wesley T. Moore Jr., 70, of 17 Landing Drive, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at his home after a period of failing health.
He was born Aug. 26, 1932, the son of Wesley T. and Theresa (Flanagan) Moore Sr., and had resided in Wilmington, Mass. for more than 25 years.
He was a 1950 graduate of Everett Vocational High School, where he served as president of his class.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Moore was employed by the United Postal Service in Wilmington for 35 years.
He was president of the Wilmington Pop Warner Youth Football League and former troop leader of Boy Scout Post 63 in Wilmington.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Moore of Methuen; two sons, Wesley Moore of Newfields and Michael Moore of East Kingston; one stepson, Patrick Moore of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Pat Demeo of Georgetown, Mass., and Joyce Gaskill of Revere, Mass.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Exeter.

Eleanor S. White
EXETER - Eleanor S. White, 76, of 8 Hampton Road, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for Exeter.
She was born July 30, 1926, in Elizabeth, N.J., the daughter of the late Roy and Hazel (Smalley) Stewart. She had resided in Rye since 1969, coming from Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth.
She was a 1943 graduate of Portsmouth High School.
Mrs. White enjoyed knitting and quilting afghans.
The widow of Joseph A. White, she is survived by one son, Douglas R. White of Oakwood Hills, Ill.; two daughters, Diana C. White of Oakwood Hills and Joanne King of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; one grandson; one sister, Evelyn Staples of Rye; and one niece and nephew.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Rye.

William Bagshaw
PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. - William Bagshaw, 59, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, after a sudden illness.
He was born in Lowell, Mass., the son of the late Robert and Isabelle (Elliott) Bagshaw and had resided in Tewksbury and West Newbury, Mass., and East Kingston before moving to the Cocoa, Fla., area eight years ago.
He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
Mr. Bagshaw was employed in facilities management for Lockheed-Martin in East Orlando, Fla.
He was a member of the Naval Reserve for 23 years, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the Naval Reserve Association.
He was an avid beer brewer and was a member of SAAZ. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and was a member of the Space Coast Harley Owners Group.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Katen) Bagshaw; one daughter, Kristen Little of California; three sons, William Bagshaw Jr., Daniel Bagshaw and Timothy Bagshaw, all of California; one grandson; two brothers, Robert Bagshaw and James Bagshaw, both of East Kingston; one sister, Isabelle Bagshaw of Atlanta, Ga.; two stepsons, Jeffrey Szuba of Louisville, Ken., and Scott Szuba of East Kingston; and two step grandsons.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

William H. Barkley, Ruth H. Barkley
HAMPTON - Memorial services for William H. Barkley and Ruth H. Barkley will be held Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew’s By-the-Sea, Church Road, Rye Beach.
Mr. Barkley died March 21, 2003, and Mrs. Barkley died March 9, 2003.
