Dorothy M. Wilcox
DURHAM - Dorothy May Wilcox, 95, formerly of Old Landing Road, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Rochester Manor, where she had resided for the past eight years.
She was born Sept. 24, 1907, in Lyme, the daughter of Charles N. and Fannie (Southworth) Goodell. She was raised in Lyme and had resided in Durham since 1928.
She was a 1925 graduate of Kimball Union Academy and a 1952 graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor’s degree. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Kappa Phi.
Mrs. Wilcox taught junior high in Durham from 1928 until 1970, taking a year’s leave of absence to tape "The Story of the Granite State" at WENH-TV.
She was an active member of the National Retired Teachers Association; the N.H. Education Association; past president of the Dames of the Court of Honor, the Society of Mayflower Descendants and of the Durham Business Professional Women; a member of the National Society of New England Women; the Daughters of the American Colonists; the Daughters of Colonial Wars; the Durham Women’s Club; and a former member of the Deaconate of the Community Church of Durham
She was very interested in New Hampshire history and had given many portrayals on New Hampshire’s Sarah J. Hale.
She was chairman of the Silver Squares of Durham for many years and a past president of the Durham Historic Association. She was awarded the Vaughn Award for outstanding achievement on behalf of older citizens.
Mrs. Wilcox was the director for the Meals on Wheels program for six years and was a volunteer at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for 13 years. She was a Red Cross volunteer and was awarded the Clara Barton Commemorative Medal.
The widow of Philip Wilcox, who died in 1991, she is survived by several good friends.
At her request there will be no services. Private burial will be in Durham Cemetery.

Norman A. Panknin
NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Norman A. Panknin, 61, formerly of Hampton Beach, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Cowen) Panknin; one son and his wife, Edwin E. and Sherry Brown Jr.; one daughter and her husband, Susan and Jim Hayes; his mother, Laurene Panknin; three grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Hager.
Arrangements were by the Paul V. Sharder Funeral Home, New Albany.
Charles W. Ayer
STRATHAM - Charles W. Ayer, 75, of 1 Thornhill Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare.
He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Wesley B. and Carrie (Shippee) Ayer.
He was a graduate of Haverhill High School and Northeastern University. He later studied at Northern Essex Community College.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Ayer was an adjuster for Amica Insurance Co., in Rochester, N.Y., for many years and was a substance abuse counselor in the Rochester area.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Hampton, and he enjoyed reading and talking politics.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn F. (Farrar) Ayer; four sons, Charles W. Ayer Jr. of Vernon, Conn., John E. Ayer of Marlboro, Conn., James W. Ayer of Detroit and Robert W. Ayer of Rochester; two daughters, Rebecca J. Lennahan of Portsmouth, R.I., and Susan H. Smith of Canajoharie, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jane Engalls of Exeter.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, Hampton.

Edward A. Dahl
REVERE, Mass. - Edward A. Dahl, 66, formerly of Hampton, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Everett, Mass., the son of the late Carl and Florence (Houston) Dahl.
He was a 1954 graduate of Revere High School and served with the U.S. National Guard.
Mr. Dahl owned Edward A. Dahl Painting and Contracting Services for more than 20 years.
He served as a volunteer ambulance driver in Hampton; was a member of First Baptist Church, Hampton, where he served as a deacon for several years; and was a member of the First Congregational Church, Revere.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Paul Barton of Stratford, Ont., Canada, and Deanna and Rafael Rodriguez of Hackettstown, N.J.; two sons, Douglas A. Dahl and his fiancée Michele Youd of Atlanta, Ga., and David E. Dahl and his wife Tricia of Wallingford, Conn.; and four grandchildren.
A celebration of his life was held Saturday in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, Ipswich, Mass., with the Rev. Nicholas Granitsas of the First Congregational Church, Revere, officiating. Spring burial will be in West Branch Cemetery, Stowe, Vt.

Joel F. Koch
KITTERY, Maine - Joel Francis Koch, 63, of Wilson Road, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at his home following a brief period of failing health.
He was born Oct. 12, 1939, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of Rudolph H. and Roselyn (O’Neil) Koch, and had resided in the Seacoast area for 30 years.
He was a 1959 graduate of George Washington High School, New York City, and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving as an aviation radio technician.
Mr. Koch owned Magna Mortgage Group and was a senior vice president of Indian Head Bank for 14 years. He served in the banking industry for more than 30 years.
He was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, York, Maine.
He was a former member of the Rotary International Club of Kittery; past president of Big Brothers-Big Sisters of New Hampshire; and a member of the board of directors of camp O-AT-KA in Sebago, Maine.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bobbi (Berndt) Koch of Kittery; one son and his wife, Peter and Lianne Koch of Wade, Maine; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kimberley and Edward Mitchell of Eliot, Maine, Heather and Steven Martin of Sarasota, Fla., and Wendy Koch of Windham, Maine; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Rudolph Koch of Palm Springs, Calif.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. George’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Paige Blair officiating.

Raymond O. Lamb
BRENTWOOD - Raymond O. Lamb, 80, of Middle Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at his son’s home in Kensington after a brief illness.
He was born March 6, 1922, in Portland, Maine, the son of the late Edwin B. and Hattie (Abbott) Lamb, and had resided in East Kingston for 20 years moving to Brentwood in 1970.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honored by having his name inscribed on the Honor Roll of the Brentwood Baptist Church in recognition of his military service.
Mr. Lamb retired from the Hampton School district.
He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Lamb of Brentwood and Steven Lamb and his wife, Cheryl, of Kensington; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion Hume of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Steve McGee officiating.

Francis J. Radigan
KINGSTON - Francis J. Radigan, 63, of North Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Dover Rehabilitation Center.
He was born May 10, 1939, in Chelsea, Mass., the son of Francis and Mary (Brosseau) Radigan Sr. He was raised in Salem and had resided in Kingston for 35 years.
Mr. Radigan was a forklift operator at the Bailey Corp., Seabrook, for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary (Littlewood) Radigan of Kingston; two sons and their wives, Frank and Debra Radigan of Raymond, and Bill and Tina Radigan of Kingston; one daughter, Donna Radigan of Manchester; three grandchildren; two brothers, Gary Collins of Andover, Mass., and Roland Collins of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Vincent M. Shea
HAMPTON - Vincent M. Shea, 86, of 34 Locke Road, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Seacoast Health Center.
He was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Portsmouth, the son of the late Leo and Christina (Fullam) Shea.
He was a graduate of St. Patrick School and Portsmouth High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Shea was a machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years.
He enjoyed traveling and wintered in Springhill, Fla., from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia B. (Stacy) Shea; one son, Peter M. Shea of Concord; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Eddie Shea of Portsmouth and Peter Shea of Biddeford, Maine; two sisters, Rita Herlihy of Dover and Dorothy Archibald of Springhill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one grandson, John Shea.
Graveside services will be held in High Street Cemetery in the spring.

Sharon M. Smoyer
STRATHAM - Sharon M. Ellis Smoyer, 48, of 7 Rollins Drive, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.
She was born Aug. 30, 1954, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Romaine (Oothoudt) Ellis of Howards Grove, Wis., and the late Frank B. Ellis. She was raised in White Bear Lake, Minn.
She was a graduate of White Bear Lake High School and received her teaching degree and master of education degree from the University of New Hampshire.
Mrs. Smoyer was a math teacher at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, Haverhill, Mass., for the past several years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, woodworking and skiing.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 27 years, Raymond H. Smoyer of Stratham; one son, Jerry R. Smoyer of Stratham; one daughter, Kristen L. Smoyer of Stratham; one sister, Carolyn Eickholt of Howards Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Jerry Ellis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. After cremation, interment will be private.
