Annie C. Elliot
KENNEBUNK, Maine - Annie Colwell Elliot, 99, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford, after a brief illness.
She was born in Hyde Park, Mass., the daughter of William and Ida Colwell. She resided in Hampton from 1925 until 1946, when she moved to Augusta, Maine. She resided in Venice, Fla., returning to Maine in 1999.
Mrs. Elliot was a church organist in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine for 50 years. She accompanied several vocalists at radio stations and concerts throughout the New England area. She also gave private piano lessons and played for a Portsmouth dancing instructor for several years.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church; Order of the Eastern Star, Rose of Sharon Chapter, Augusta; and an honorary member of the Cecilia Club (Federated Music Clubs of Maine).
The widow of Robert O. Elliot, her husband of 77 years, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Henry Rico of Houston, Tex.; two sons, Neil Elliot of McMinnville, Ore., and Dale Elliot of Mount Vernon, Maine; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Elliot of Ogunquit, Maine; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Harvey Elliot; and two brothers, Neil and William Colwell.
Graveside services will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Belgrade, Maine, in the spring.

Kathryn L. Lundgren
HAMPTON - Kathryn Lynn (Goodrich) Lundgren, 56, of 986 Ocean Blvd., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, in Exeter Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 15, 1947, in Portland, Ore., the daughter of Lillian M. (Wilson) Goodrich and the late Hollis H. Goodrich Jr. She had resided in Hampton for 15 years.
She was educated in Arizona schools and was a graduate of the University of Arizona.
Mrs. Lundgren was a homemaker.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 34 years, Jon R. Lundgren of Hampton; one daughter and her husband, Star and Paul Higgins of Hampton; one son, Marc Lundgren of Hampton; one sister, Gayle Smart of Oregon; one brother, Gary Goodrich of Oregon; and one aunt, Mary Goodrich.
Largely attended visiting hours were held Saturday at the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, Hampton. Among the many friends attending were representatives from Hampton Beach area restaurant owners and employees, business associates, area merchants, town officials, and area real estate agents.
Interment will be private.

Marcia C. Sanborn
DANVILLE - Marcia C. Sanborn, 91, of Beach Plain Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.
She was born Oct. 25, 1911, in Buckfield, Maine, the daughter of the late Charles B. and Marion (Clark) Conant. She was raised in Maine and Kingston, and had resided in North Danville for 69 years.
She was a 1931 graduate of Sanborn Seminary.
Mrs. Sanborn was employed by Keezar Manufacturing, Plaistow, retiring in 1968. She had previously worked at F.W. Woolworth in Exeter for several years.
She enjoyed crocheting.
The widow of Melton R. Sanborn, who died in 1989, she is survived by four daughters, Jean Kerr of Yuma, Ariz., Barbara S. Byrne of North Danville; Sylvia Milbury of New River, Ariz., and Dotty S. Emilio of East Kingston; one son, Butch Sanborn of Raymond; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Christine Moore of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Muriel Sanborn.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Wes Burwell officiating. Spring burial will be in the Old Meetinghouse Cemetery, North Danville.

Clifford E. Smith Jr.
HAMPTON - Clifford E. Smith Jr., 84, of 7 Dearborn Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at his home.
He was born March 27, 1918, in Ellsworth, Maine, the son of the late C. Earle and Beatrice (Pratt) Smith, and had resided in Hampton since 1992.
He was a 1935 graduate of Ellsworth High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Smith was a bricklayer and stone mason and was a life member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.
He was a member of United Baptist Church, Ellsworth; a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 109 of Ellsworth; and a former member of the Grange in Trenton, Maine.
The widower of Madeline (Dority) Smith, his wife of 57 years who died in 1995, he is survived by one daughter and her husband, Jane and Paul McDermott of Hampton.
He was predeceased by one brother, Willis J. Smith.
Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth, at the convenience of the family.

Carleton S. Edgerly
RYE - Carleton S. Edgerly, 96, of 795 Washington Road, formerly of Hampton Falls, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Webster at Rye Health & Retirement where he had resided since 1989.
He was born July 30, 1906, in Hampton Falls, the son of the late Carleton J. and Lillian T. (Sanborn) Edgerly.
He was a 1924 graduate of Hampton Academy and attended the University of New Hampshire majoring in agriculture.
Mr. Edgerly was a vegetable farmer and owned and operated the former Edgerly Farms in Hampton Falls, retiring in 1966. After his retirement he spent time with his other business interest, harness racing. Over the years he owned several race horses and enjoyed driving and training them.
He was a member of the N.H. Farm Bureau and the American Standardbred Harness Racing Association.
He produced many pencil drawings and knew and admired the late Ogden Nash, which inspired him to write many poems.
The widower of Hazel (Shaw) Edgerly, his wife of 66 years who died in 1991, he is survived by one son, Alan G. Edgerly of Hampton Falls; two daughters, Evelyn Coulter of Young Harris, Ga., and Ruth Scott of Salem, Mass.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Thayer Edgerly, and two sisters, Edwina MacConnell and Marilla Laughlin.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

John D. Southworth Jr.
RYE BEACH - John Deane Southworth Jr., 74, died Saturday Feb. 22, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Sheldon, Vt., the son of the late Dr. John D. and Louise (Hendee) Southworth. He was raised in Rutland, Vt., where he learned to ski and race at Pico Mountain, and had resided in Michigan and Killington, Vt., before moving to Rye Beach in 1988.
He attended Blair Academy in New Jersey and Clark School in Hanover, where he was captain of the ski teams. He was a graduate of Clark School and attended college in Maine.
Mr. Southworth and his wife owned and operated Southworth’s Ski Shop in Killington for 26 years. He had previously directed the Mainstee ski school and the county recreation department in Michigan and was associated with the Killington Ski Area. He was a certified ski instructor and taught skiing for more than 50 years.
He was a member of Abenaqui Country Club; the Jaycees in Michigan; a lifelong member of Rotary International; and charter president of the Killington Rotary Club.
He enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn (Brown) Southworth of Rye Beach. one daughter and her husband, Ann and James Maher of Randolph, Vt.; one son and his wife, John D. III and Ann Southworth of Mendon, Vt.; six grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Kenneth Southworth of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Rye Congregational Church, Rye Center. A celebration of his life will be held after the service at Abenaqui Country Club, Rye Beach.

Rosemary G. Hatch
STRATHAM - Rosemary G. Hatch, 55, of Depot Road, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at her home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1948, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Francis X. and Mary (Bassett) Gesel of Chester. She had resided in Stratham since 1977.
She was a graduate of Mount St. Mary High School, received her bachelor of arts degree from Mount St. Mary College and received her master’s degree in early childhood education from the University of New Hampshire in 1973.
Mrs. Hatch taught first grade in Newmarket for the past 14 years. She had previously operated her own preschool for many years and taught first grade in Epping.
She enthusiastically supported the founding of the Sandy Point Discovery Center in Stratham. She remained very active at the Center and was a member of the Stewards of Great Bay.
She was a communicant of St. James Church, Portsmouth.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 30 years, Donald A. Hatch of Stratham; one daughter, Mary (Frannie) Hatch of Stratham; one son, John K. Hatch of Portland, Maine; six sisters, Deanna Bradley of Hooksett, Theresa Gesel-Towne of Bedford, Mary Cmejla of Manchester, Katherine Gagne of Phoenix, Ariz., Joann Abrams of Cambridge, Mass., and Tina Ouwerkerk of Chester; five brothers, Francis Gesel Jr. of Lunenburg, Mass., Martin Gesel of Missoula, Mont., Jason Gesel and Jerome Gesel, both of Chester, and Jude Gesel of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, 2075 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, with the Rev. Agapit Jean as celebrant.

Katherine B. Laurin
HATFIELD, Hertfordshire, England - Katherine Berry Laurin, 54, died Dec. 10, 2002, in Mt. Vernon Centre for Cancer Treatment, Northwood, Middlesex, England.
She was born May 13, 1948, in Exeter, the daughter of Robert and Marjorie Berry of Stratham.
She attended Stratham schools and was a 1966 graduate of Exeter High School. She attended the University of Denver and the University of Strasbourg in France.
Ms. Laurin was a world traveler and a career travel industry executive and was employed by the International Youth Hostel Federation in Welwyn Garden City, UK. She joined the IYHF in 1996 to put into place the approved IYHF Assured Standards Programme. She served as the deputy executive director of American Youth Hostels for five years. She pioneered the Hostel Standards workshop, and managed the first IYHF Hostel 2000 Train and Trainer Course. Prior to her arrival in the UK she was the deputy executive director of the American Youth Hostel Association in Washington, D.C., and president of Destination Management in San Francisco.
She was an active member of the St. Francis Anglican Church in Welwyn Garden City where she was the joint chairman of the House Group Committee, leader in the youth group, a member of the healing team and ran the recent exhibition on Grieving and Bereavement.
She is survived by her parents; three brothers, William of Bristol, R.I., Kenneth of Van, Tex., and Donald of West Springfield, Mass.; one sister, Trudy Guth of Wallingford, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held in Christ Church Episcopal in Exeter at a later date.
Norman J. Muscarello
EXETER - Norman J. Muscarello, 55, of Front Street, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at his home after a sudden illness.
He was born May 13, 1947, in Portsmouth, the son of the late Angelo J. and Delores Ann (Walker) Muscarello Jr., and lived most of his life in Exeter.
He was a graduate of Winnacunnet High School, Hampton, and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving three tours of duty aboard the USS Boston during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Muscarello was employed by Phillips Exeter Academy for one year and for several years by Alrose Shoe Co. in Exeter.
In the early 1960s a book, "Incident of Exeter," was written about him because of an experience based on UFOs that he witnessed.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 32 of Exeter.
He is survived by one brother, Thomas F. Muscarello of Exeter; one sister, Theresa Anthony of San Diego, Calif.; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and his companion of 27 years, Theresa Lockhart of Exeter.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Wendall Irvine officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, at a later date.
