Gardner Johnson Sr., 75, of Fryeburg, passed asay peacefully at Fryeburg HealthCare Center on May 16, 2001. Born on June 23, 1925 in Poland, Maine, he is predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Albertha Mann Johnson in 1981. A grandson, Edward Smith, predeceased him in 1986.
He is survived by one sister, Evelyn Grover of Stow; three sons, Gardner Johnson III of Fryeburg, Robert Johnson of Sweden, and Wayne Johnson of Fryeburg; three daughters, Eleanor Kimball of Fryeburg, Joyce Conant of Jay, Maine, and Linda Warren of Fryeburg; ten grandsons, 11 granddaughters, and 17 great-grandchildren.
His interests included hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was enlisted in the merchant marines and served during World War II. He worked in the woods logging, farmed in the valley, and was employed by the Town of Fryeburg as the dump attendant for several years.
At his request, his body was donated to science to further medical research.
On May 26, 2001, family and friends are invited for a celebration of his life at Wayne and Sharon Johnson's, 51B Portland Street, Fryeburg, Maine, starting at noon.
OSSIPEE -- Irene "Rene" (Holbrook) LeGendre, 78, of Center Ossipee, died May 11, 2001, in Center Ossipee from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Rene was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Wolfeboro, the daughter of the late Clement and Mary (Berry) Holbrook, and had lived in Center Ossipee all her life. She had worked for Mount Whittier Ski Area for many years, as well as other local stores and most recently was employed as a clerk at P, B & J's store in Center Ossipee.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years Emile J. LeGendre, Center Ossipee; a son Dennis LeGendre of Center Ossipee; two daughters, Marcella Ratliff of Freedom and Maureen Pierro of North Hampton; six grandsons and a granddaughter; her sisters Janice Wagonfeld of Bayonetville, Fla., and June (Palmer) Lindley of Center Ossipee; and nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours with the family were Monday evening at the Lord Funeral Home in Center Ossipee. Memorial services will be today (Tuesday) at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, Route 16B, Center Ossipee. Interment will be in the Grant Hill Cemetery, Center Ossipee.

FRYEBURG -- Ruby L. Largey, 88, of Lovewell Pond Road, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Bridgton Hospital.
Ruby was born in Gilead, Maine, the daughter of William and Bertha Kendall Bennett. She graduated from Gould Academy in 1931, and also graduated from Farmington Normal School.
Mrs. Largey was a teacher for 33 years. She taught in the towns of Greenwood, Bethel, Brownfield and Fryeburg. She lived in Demark from 1951 to 1961. Her husband, Maynard Largey, died in 1961, at which time she moved to Fryeburg.
Mrs. Largey was a member of Mount Moriah Chapter Order of Eastern Star; an honorary member of Pythagorean Chapter Order of Eastern Star; and Retired Teachers Association, Maine, and National Retired Teachers Association. She was active with the Fryeburg senior citizens and the historical society.
Her family includes one son, Loren L. Largey, of Denmark; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Lola) Layne and Mrs. Philip (Lorna) Emery, both of Fryeburg, and Mrs. Stuart (Lida) Kaiser, of Brookfield; one brother, Sherwin Bennett, of Mission Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Mildred Chushing, of Farmington, Maine, and Phyllis Thyer, of Danielson, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Wood Funeral Home, 12 Warren Street, Fryeburg, with the Rev. Bryce Whiting officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Bethel. Donations in her memory may be made to the Fryeburg Rescue, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, Maine 04037.
SANFORD, Maine -- Isabel A. Warren, 70, of 2 Front Street, Sanford, Maine, died May 8, 2001, at Fryeburg Health Care Center.
She was born on June 20, 1930, in Waterboro, a daughter of Frank and Ida Brown Chick. She was educated in Waterboro schools. She worked for many years as a spinner at Kezar Falls Woolen Mill. She enjoyed reading, riding in the car and going out to restaurants.
She is survived by one son, Alton N. Warren, of Windsor, Maine; three daughters, Louise I. Burgess, of Lakewood, Calif., Arlene G. Norton, of Sanford, Maine, and Elsie M. Warren, of Fryeburg; one sister, Alice Morrill, of Sanford, Maine; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three nephews and six nieces.
A visiting hour will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Neal and York Funeral Home, 12 High Street, Kezar Falls, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. at Limington Village Cemetery. Mrs. Leta Warren, Mrs. Warren's daughter-in-law, will officiate.
EFFINGHAM -- Pauline (Brown) Peckham, 82, of Champion Hill, passed away May 10, 2001, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
Mrs. Peckham was born in Riverglade, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of the late Rev. Robie and Jean Brown. She had lived in Rehoboth, Mass., for many years before she and her husband retired to Effingham in 1981.
Mrs. Peckham was a graduate of Bryant College in Providence, R.I. She was a member of the Wakefield Community Church and played the organ at several of the local area churches. Pauline was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Rehoboth 208 O.E.S.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Raymond E. Peckham, of Effingham; four daughters, Cynthia Jean Dewey, of Rehoboth, Mass., Kathleen Joyce Lynch, of Clifton Park, N.Y., Kristine Adele Brown, of Wrentham, Mass., and Patricia Edna Lanning, of Benton, Maine; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Porter, of Topsfield, Mass.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Route 28, Wolfeboro. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Effingham Falls Baptist Church, Effingham Falls. Interment will be held in the Thomas Cemetery, Swansea, Mass., at a later date.

Edith M. McLellan, 92, of North Conway, died May 9, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway after a brief illness.
Born in North Conway, the daughter of Edwin and Clare (White) Libby, she was a lifelong resident. Mrs. McLellan had been a bookkeeper at the White Mountain Laundry for 48 years.
She had been a member of the former North Conway Women's Bowling League.
The family includes a daughter, Barbara M. Wilkins, of North Conway; two grandchildren, Allan E. Rowe, of West Ossipee, and Linda L. Ferguson, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a brother, Edward M. Libby, of North Conway.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary L. Ward in 1995 and Gabriella L. Ainsworth in 1997.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Conway Village Cemetery.

GORE, Va. -- Cheryl Elizabeth Jackson, 63, of Gore, Va., and formerly of Dale City, Va., who had retired after 20 years as a crossing guard for the Prince William County School System, died of a heart attack Friday, May 4, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
Mrs. Jackson was the wife of Leonard D. "Buzz" Jackson III, a retired Fairfax County firefighter with Gunston Fire Station 20 and a former Fairfax County police officer. Married June 14, 1958, in Alexandria, Va., they moved to the Winchester area after retirement.
Born March 29, 1938, in North Conway, Mrs. Jackson was visiting her mother, Constance Walker Morse, of Intervale, when she was stricken. She also was the daughter of the late Roland L. Morse.
Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's on the Hill Episcopal Church, Winchester, and was a volunteer at Winchester Medical Center.
Also surviving are two sons, Leonard D. Jackson IV, of Winchester, and Kerry R. Jackson, of Greencastle, Pa.; six granddaughters; a great grandson; and a brother, Robert E. Morse, of Intervale.
Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's on the Hill Church, with interment at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Fairfax, Va., on May 8, 2001. Pallbearers were the C-shift employees at Fairfax County Fire Department 10.

For Cheryl's dedication to emergency services, she was saluted by Buzz's old assignment, Fairfax County Fire Station 11-Penn Daw. Pallbearers were Kerry's co-workers, Fire Station 10-C Shift. The Fairfax County Police Department helicopter (Fairfax 1) saluted with a fly-by, and K-9 handler Mike Gubesch and his dog (Champion) offered final respects.

CONWAY -- Constance W. Morse, 88, of North Conway, died May 8, 2001, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Conway after a brief illness.
Born in North Conway, the daughter of Harry and Gertrude (Storey) Walker, she was a lifelong resident.
Mrs. Morse had been employed at the former Carroll Reed's Ski Shop for 15 years. She had been a member of the Washington Chapter 44 O.E.S. in Conway.
The family includes a son, Robert E. Morse, of North Conway; three grandsons; seven great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; two sisters, Cheryl Jones, of Silver Springs, Md., and Betty Gilbert, of Conway; and several nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Cheryl L. Jackson, predeceased her last week in North Conway while visiting from Virginia.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Intervale Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Haney, rector of Christ Church in North Conway, officiating. There will be no visiting hours. Donations may be sent to the charity of one's choice.
