Andrew D. Stevens
STRATHAM - Pfc. Andrew D. Stevens, 20, of Coach Road, was one of 11 soldiers killed in a helicopter crash, Tuesday, March 11, 2003, during a military training mission at Fort Drum, N.Y.
He was born June 12, 1982, in Peoria, Ill., the son of John D. and Lorna (Smith) Stevens of Stratham.
He was a 2001 graduate of Exeter High School and entered the U.S. Army shortly after his graduation. He was member of the 10th Mountain Division stationed at Fort Drum and had earned his expert infantry badge.
He was a dedicated soldier for whom an Army career was a childhood dream.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Senior Airman Rachel Metz of Misawa Air Force Base, Japan; one brother, 1st Lt. John D. Stevens of Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota; his maternal grandparents, Harry and Helen Smith of Nashua; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Stevens of Weymouth, Mass.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
A memorial fund to benefit Stratham Hill Park will be established at a later time.
Anna Teeri
DURHAM - Anna Sullivan Teeri, 92, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Langdon Place of Dover.
She was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Boston, the daughter of Patrick and Annie (Hayes) Sullivan. She had resided in Durham from 1949 until 2001 in a house built by her father-in-law with stone taken from his quarry in Durham. She moved to Dover in 2001.
She received her bachelor’s degree and a master of education degree from Boston University.
Mrs. Teeri taught at Newmarket High School for many years and had previously taught in Providence, R.I.
She was a member of the UNH Women’s Folk Club and of a women’s sewing circle that met monthly for 35 years. She took great pride in UNH and its academic and sports achievements. She enjoyed spending summers with her family in Rangeley, Maine.
The widow of Arthur E. Teeri, UNH Professor Emeritus, who died in 1993, she is survived by two sons and their wives, James A. and Teri Teeri of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Robert S. and Gale Teeri of Durham; three grandsons; and one sister, Mary A. Sullivan of Dover.
She was predeceased by one sister, Eleanor, and one brother, Jack.
Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Dr. Clayton L. Valli
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Dr. Clayton L. Valli, 51, formerly of Seabrook, died Friday, March 7, 2003, in Baptist Hospital, Miami.
He was born May 25, 1951, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of Alice P. (Bagley) Eaton of Seabrook and the late Francis S. Valli Jr.
He was a 1971 graduate of the Austin School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, Vt., and received his bachelor of arts degree in social psychology in 1978 from the University of Nevada-Reno, and a master’s degree in linguistics in 1985 from Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C. He completed his doctorate in linguistics and ASL Poetics at the Union Institute in Cincinnati in 1993.
Dr. Valli was a professor, consultant, presenter and a trainer related to ASL poetry and linguistics at Gallaudet University. After his retirement he continued to work as a part time editor for the Gallaudet University Press and traveled around the world as a lecturer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Kim Valli of West Hartford, Conn., and George Perkins of North Hampton; two sisters, Frances Eaton of Seabrook and Carla Perkins of South Hampton; and five nieces.
Services will be held Saturday, March 22, at 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Private interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Seabrook.

Albert C. Schwotzer
HAMPTON - Albert C. Schwotzer, 82, of Swain Court, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Randolph, Mass., the son of the late Rudolph and Louise M. (Chaisson) Schwotzer.
Mr. Schwotzer was a self-employed dental technician, making dentures and bridge work for dentists in Hampton, Exeter and Portsmouth from 1952 until his retirement in 1984.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and a former member of the choir. He was a volunteer at Lane Memorial Library, Meals on Wheels and the FISH Program. He was a member of the Rockingham Country Club and the Twice Weekly Bridge Club.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rachael M. (Miller) Schwotzer; one son and his wife, Michael A. and Pamela Schwotzer of Kensington; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton.

Richard P. Bowlen Jr.
SEABROOK - Richard P. "Bo" Bowlen Jr., 49, of 72 Coral Lane, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 18, 1953, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of the late Richard P. and Janet G. (Gynan) Bowlen.
He attended Winnacunnet High School and Northern Essex Community College, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Bowlen was a lobsterman, an auto mechanic, an auto body technician and was employed by the Bailey Corporation of Seabrook.
He was a member and financial secretary of the Seabrook Fireman’s Association and a member of the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post 70.
He enjoyed playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Donna M. (Brown) Bowlen of Seabrook; one son, Richard P. "Rick" Bowlen III of Seabrook; two daughters, Cathy-Jo and Dianne and their children of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, George Bowlen of Exeter and Dana Knowles of Seabrook; two sisters, Paula Newhall of Seabrook and Wendy Shepard of Phonotossa, Fla.; three godchildren, Tim, Kyle and Aaron Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Calling hours will be held from 4:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Esther K. Call
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Esther (Kaija) Call, 90, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at the Helen Porter Health and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
She was born July 18, 1912, in Keene, the daughter of John and Hilda (Pasanen) Kaija. She lived most of her life in Springfield, Vt.
She was educated in Keene area schools and graduated from the Banford Beauty Academy in Boston.
After her husband’s death in 1959, Mrs. Call opened a beauty shop in the front of the family home on High Street and operated it for many years.
She was an accomplished seamstress and made quilts and many embroidered items for her children.
She was a charter member of the Home Dem Club in Springfield; and a member of the Ladies Circle of the Baptist Church for many years.
She loved to read and spent many summer weeks at the Call family lake house on Lake St. Catherine in Wells, Vt.
The widow of Lawrence H. Call, who died in 1959, she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Edward "Sandy" Buck of Hampton and Patricia and Albert "Buzzy" Conant of Bristol, Vt.; one son, Bruce Call of Wells, Vt.; one grandson; and one great- grandson.
She was predeceased by one son, Edward J. Call; four brothers, John, Toby, Tauno, and Reino Kaija and two sisters, Ellen Dedushka and Elsa Lander.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel, Summer St., Springfield, Vt.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Richard Cederholm, pastor of North Springfield Baptist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Plain Cemetery, Perkinsville, Vt.

Joseph E. Carney Jr.
SALEM - Joseph E. Carney Jr., 70, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 16, 1932, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of the late Joseph and Mary Carney.
He was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute with a bachelor’s of arts degree in history and was a veteran of the Korean conflict.
Mr. Carney was a prominent figure in the horse and dog racing industry.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting and was a two-time PHRF cruising division New England champion yachtsman on his boat "Talaria."
He was an accomplished musician and singer.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Carney of Salem; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathleen and Timothy Brothers, Mary and Michael Gering and Ellen M. Carney; two sons, Joseph E. Carney III and James P. Carney; five grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Thomas F. Carney and Daniel Carney; two sisters, Joan O’Donnell and Mrs. Robert Linnehan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Hugh D. Carney
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Mary Queen of Peace Church, Lawrence Road, Salem. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.

Margaret F. Choquette
SEABROOK - Margaret F. "Maggie" Choquette, 92, of 30 Pine St., died Friday, March 7, 2003, at her home.
She was born June 1, 1910, in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine Fortune. She had resided in Seabrook since 1980.
She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Lawrence, and attended MacIntosh Business School.
Mrs. Choquette was a secretary for the city of Lawrence in the assessor’s office and later for the guidance department at Lawrence High School. She also worked for Pacific Mills and for Roland B. Glines, a company that repaired small electrical motors.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. She was a member of the former Seabrook Lioness Club and was an accomplished seamstress.
The widow of Walter M. Choquette, who died in 1952, she is survived by two daughters, Linda M. Fortin of Seabrook, with whom she made her home, and Lois Sergi and her husband Joseph of North Andover, Mass.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son-in-law, Arthur P. Fortin; three brothers, James, John and David and one sister, Mary Berry.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Private interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.

B. Irene Latimer
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - B. Irene (Pidgeon) Latimer, 82, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in New Bedford, Mass., the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Josephine (Melanson) Pidgeon and was a lifelong resident of New Bedford.
Mrs. Latimer was formerly employed as a saleswoman by Delilah Bridal Salon, Star Store and Estelle Bridal Salon.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
She is survived by her husband, Norbert F. Latimer of New Bedford; two sons and their wives, Norbert C. "Chuck" and Lorraine Latimer of New Bedford and James and Eileen Latimer of Hampton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Ella Elek of Lorain, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
