Robert H. Leaver
HAMPTON - Robert H. Leaver, 72, of 463 Winnacunnet Road, died Thursday, March 20, 2003.
He was born Nov. 19, 1930, in Worcester, Mass., the son of Harry and Elsie (Thomas) Leaver and was raised in Newport.
He was a 1948 graduate of a Newport high school and received his bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture and site planning from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Leaver owned and operated the Robert H. Leaver Landscape Architecture and Site Planning Co. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for 24 years. He had previously been a landscape architect for many years working in Boston and West Hartford, Conn.
He is survived by his wife, Isabel F. (Prescott) Leaver; two sons, Jon P. Leaver of Old Lyme, Conn., and James T. Leaver of Andes, N.Y.; one daughter, Susan K. Leaver of Manchester; three grandchildren; one brother, Eugene H. Leaver of Sun City, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

Helen A. Oliveri
NEWMARKET - Helen Ashton Oliveri, 93, of New Road, formerly of Stratham, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare.
She was born Oct. 17, 1909, in Bayonne, N.J., the daughter of Ignatz and Teofila (Janicki) Goszka. She resided in Trenton, N.J., for more than 30 years, before moving to Stratham and then to Newmarket.
She was a graduate of Somerville (N.J.) High School.
Mrs. Oliveri was a member of the Parish Council at Immaculate Conception Church in Trenton, was president of Trent Center Senior Citizens and served on the board of Boys Town of Italy, both in New Jersey.
She was active in Democratic activities in New Jersey.
She is survived by three daughters, Allene Schwing and Lorene Ashton-Reed, both of Hamilton, N.J., and Audrey Ashton-Savage and husband Edgar of Newmarket; one son and his wife, Robert C. and Sandra Ashton of Round Rock, Texas; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Bruno Goszka of Bridgewater, N.J.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Malcolm F. Ashton, who died in 1968; her second husband, Samuel Oliveri, who died in 1978; and one son, George Ashton, who died in 1985.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in Immaculate Conception Church, Trenton. Burial was in Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton Township, N.J.

Ruth L. Roe
BRENTWOOD - Ruth L. Glines Roe, 73, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Langdon Place, Exeter.
She was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Twin Mountain, the daughter of Archie and Rose Glines, and lived most of her life in Exeter and Brentwood.
She was a graduate of Twin Mountain High School and attended Keene Teachers College.
Mrs. Roe was employed for many years by Exeter Handkerchief Shop.
She was an excellent seamstress and knitter and had a concern for all animals.
She is survived by one son, Kevin Roe of Fremont; one daughter, Suzanne Roe of Portsmouth; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Arthur Glines of Folsom, Calif., and Wendel Glines of Monroe; one sister, Diana Hendricks of Riverside, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
George E. Melanson
EPPING - George Emery Melanson, 62, of Blake Road, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 27, 1940, in Boston, the son of the late Joseph G.E. and Edith (Hendsbee) Melanson. He resided in Epping for eight years coming from Salem.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the USS McCaffrey.
Mr. Melanson was employed by Western Electric, saw it change to AT&T and Lucent Technologies, where he worked as the plant electrician. He was the union steward and vice president of Local Union 1365.
He was a volunteer fireman for the Nottingham Fire Department and was a life member of Amvets.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycles and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Max) Melanson of Epping; four daughters, Sharon Melanson of Lawrence, Mass., Laurie Melanson of Bradford, Mass., Rita Gagnon of Epping, and JoAnne Shaw of Middleton; two sons, Joseph Melanson of Haverhill, Mass., and Donald Hamel of Raymond; and nine grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Friday, March 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m. in Epping Community Church, Pleasant St., Epping.

Jean B. French
OSSIPEE - Jean Barbara (McLean) French, 88, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, after a lengthy illness.
She was the daughter of the late Albert and Lavinia McLean and had resided in Portsmouth at the Marcheson Apartments for 17 years before moving to Ossipee.
Mrs. French was a caregiver to ill and elderly persons for many years. She worked as a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross and with RSVP. She taught craft classes for juniors and seniors.
She was a member of the Jo Bridges/Millie Defagio Line Dancers and the Kittery Line Dancers, and was the coordinator for entertainment for many groups.
She was a member of the Golden Age Club for 35 years.
The widow of Donald W. French Sr., she is survived by two sons and their wives, Donald W. and Martha French of Ossipee and Robert M. and Elaine French of Concord; one granddaughter; three grandson; eight great-grandchildren; one cousin, Betty Jean Stockbridge of Stratham; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Private memorial services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Following cremation, private burial will be in Jackson Cemetery, Stratham.

Theresa A. Lemieux
NEWMARKET - Theresa A. Lemieux, 78, died March 14, 2003, at her home.
She was born March 3, 1925, in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of Elzear and Elizabeth (Demers) Roy. She was raised in Lawrence, coming to Newmarket in 1937. She moved to Durham in 1984, returning to Newmarket.
Mrs. Lemieux worked at Rockingham Shoe in Newmarket for 40 years. When the company closed in 1981 she worked in food service at Philbrook Dining Hall at the University of New Hampshire for five years.
The widow of Romeo "Rainbow" Lemieux, her husband of 56 years who died in 2002, she is survived by two sons, Roy Lemieux and Ron Lemieux and his wife Cindy , all of Newmarket; one daughter and her husband, Robin and Shaun Sharples of Newmarket; three granddaughters; one brother, Leo Roy of Rochester; and one sister, Bertha Bascom of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in St. Mary Church, Newmarket. Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

James H. Marsh
HAMPTON- James H. Marsh, 83, of 9 George Ave., died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare.
He was born March 2, 1920, in Seabrook, the son of the late George H. and Augusta D. (Walton) Marsh, moving to Hampton in 1949.
He attended Amesbury (Mass.) High School.
Mr. Marsh was a carpenter for the Carpenter’s Union Local in Manchester and various area contractors, including Robert Brindamour, Larry Douglas, and Paul Leary.
He was a member of Faith Community Church, Hampton.
He is survived by his wife, Almeda M. (Perkins) Marsh; one son, James E. Marsh of Pittsfield; four daughters, Beverly A. Stanwood of Hampton, Jean M. Evans of North Hampton, Brenda Ferron of Candia and Betty Aldrich of Hampton; three granddaughters; five grandsons; two step grandsons, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Aron Stanwood; six brothers, Ralston Marsh, Clyde R. Marsh, Arthur Bickford, Carl Bickford, Randolph Bickford, and Benny Bickford; and two sisters, Mildred Bickford and Virginia Glenn.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will follow in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
Rose A. Neville
KINGSTON - Rose A. (Comeau) Neville, 96, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at SunBridge Healthcare of Exeter.
She was born in Lynn, Mass., and had resided in Kingston for 33 years.
She was educated in Lynn schools.
Mrs. Neville was a sales clerk at T. W. Rogers Department Store of Lynn, retiring in 1970.
She was a communicant of Mary, Mother of the Church, Newton; a member of the Newton Junction Grange; the Granite State Grange; and a former member of the XYZ Senior Citizens Club of Kingston, the Kingston Merry Seniors, the Get Acquainted Club, and the Kingston Community House.
The widow of James F. Neville, she is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., (Route 121A) Plaistow.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in Mary, Mother of the Church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Kingston.
Carolann Simmons
RAYMOND - Carolann Simmons, 61, of Prescott Road, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 20, 1941, in Lynn, Mass.
She is survived by her grandchildren and many friends.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond.
William D. Sowers
HAMPTON - William D. Sowers, 72, of 10 Carolan Ave., died Saturday, March 14, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare.
He was born Nov. 3, 19930, in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Lester F. and Meda (Leinaar) Sowers.
He was a graduate of Detroit High School, Michigan State University with a bachelor of science degree, Wayne State with a masters degree and the University of Florida with a doctorate degree.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict.
Mr. Sowers was a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent of schools and family therapist for most of his career and most recently was a consultant with his wife at their company Sowers Associates.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jacquelyn (Gregory) Sowers of Hampton; two sons and their wives, Gregory G. and Lauri Sowers of Stratham and Wayne W. and Dana Sowers of Exeter; four grandchildren; one sister, Sally Cleveland of Needham, Mass.; one nephew and two nieces.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private following cremation.
