Lawrence L. Fife
NORTHWOOD - Lawrence Lynwood Fife, 46, of 115 Main St., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in William Backus Hospital, Norwich, Conn.
He was born Sept. 18, 1956, in Concord, the son of Lynwood and Clara (Tasker) Fife.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served with the Army Reserves.
Mr. Fife was a self-employed construction worker.
He enjoyed spending time with his children, motorcycles, snowmobiling, his four-wheeler, horseback riding, repairing cars, building and restoring.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Hudson) Fife of Northwood; two sons, Christopher and Jamie Fife of Northwood; one daughter, Fay Fife of Northwood; one brother, Tony Fife of Northwood; two sisters, Robin Kelley of Northwood and Penny Osborne of Nottingham; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and best friends, Art and Doreen.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Purdy Memorial Chapel, Route 4, 2 Concord Road, Lee.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Purdy Memorial Chapel.

Veronica E. Kuzminski
PLAISTOW - Veronica E. (Yawnitz) Kuzminski, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill, Mass.
She was born Oct. 22, 1913, in Haverhill, the daughter of the late Woicheck and Eva (Gustora) Yawnitz and had been a resident of Plaistow since 1940.
She was a graduate of St. James High School, Haverhill.
Mrs. Kuzminski was a fancy stitcher in Haverhill and Lawrence, Mass., shoe factories until her retirement in 1975.
She was a member of Holy Angels Parish, Plaistow.
She is survived by four daughters, Carol A. Kuzminski of Sarasota, Fla., Sylvia M. Kuzminski of Hampton, Sandra Buker of Nova Scotia and Catherine Kuzminski of Salt Lake City, Utah; two grandchildren; one sister, Catherine R. Rowell of Atkinson; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in Holy Angels Church, Plaistow. Spring burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Richard Nelson
EXETER - Richard Winthrop Nelson, 75, of 267 Sherwood Forest, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Llewellyn and Elva (Stevens) Nelson. He had resided in Merrimac, Mass., for more than 30 years and in Exeter for 20 years.
He was a graduate of Haverhill High School and a U.S. Maritime Service veteran of World War II. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Nelson was a pipefitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Exeter; the North End Boat Club, Newburyport, Mass.; and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks in Portsmouth.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Belanger) Nelson; three children, Lee W. Nelson of Schoharie, N.Y., Richard Nelson of Auburn, N.Y., and Gaye Moxham of Schoharie; and, two grandchildren.
Private intermentwill be held at the convenience of the family.

Andre A. Martel and Rita C. Martel
RYE - Andre A. Martel, 85, died Jan. 1, 2003, at Webster at Rye Health Care Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Rita Martel, 82, died Jan. 12, 2003, also at Rye Health Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Martel was born July 20, 1917, in Manchester, the son of Conrad and Noemi (Bordeleau) Martel and had lived most of his life in Manchester, moving to Rye to live with his daughter in 1999.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe and the Pacific.
Mr. Martel owned and operated Gagne-Martel Grocery Store on Bartlett Street for more than 50 years.
He was a communicant of St. Jean Baptiste Church where he served an an usher, co-chairman of the church fair and as a volunteer at bingo games.
He was a life member of the Catholic War Veterans Rev. Louis A. Ramsey Post 1624. He had been active with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 110.
Mrs. Martel was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Manchester, the daughter of Napoleon and Emerentienne (Bourque) Gosselin and had been a lifelong resident of Manchester before moving to Rye in 1999.
They are survived by one daughter, Carmen Worrell of Rye; four grandchildren, Susan (Worrell) Ford of Exeter, Kenneth Worrell of North Hampton, Kurt Worrell of Virginia Beach, Va., Nancy (Worrell) Abbott of Londonderry; six great-grandchildren; Andre’s sister, Helene Pinard of Manchester; one niece and two nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated for Mr. Martel on Jan. 4 and for Mrs. Martel on Jan. 15 in St. Jean Baptiste Church, Parish of the Transfiguration. Burial was in Mount Cavalry Cemetery, Manchester.

Michael F. Pare
ANDOVER, Mass. - Michael F. Pare, 49, of 7 Burnham Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at his home.
He was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Amesbury, Mass., the son of the late F. Gabriel and Alice (Putnam) Pare and was raised in Andover, Mass.
He was a graduate of Andover High School and Northeastern University.
Mr. Pare was a respiratory therapist at Children’s Hospital in Boston and at Lowell General Hospital. He and his business partner and brother , Tim, also operated Danielle’s Pizzeria in Hampton Falls.
He is survived by his stepmother, Ann Pare of Seabrook; two brothers, Timothy Pare of Hampton Falls and Richard Pare of Wells, Maine; two nieces and one nephew; and, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Spring interment will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
Joseph N. Shaw
PORTSMOUTH - Joseph N. Shaw, 65, of 888 Greenland Road, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born July 29, 1937, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of the late Edward C. and Hazel (Wentworth) Shaw.
He was a 1955 graduate of Portsmouth High School and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War, retiring after 20 years of service.
Mr. Shaw was formerly employed as a maintenance engineer at Winnacunnet High School, Hampton.
He was a member of Greenland Community Congregational Church and an officer and member of the B&M Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica (Popielarz) Shaw; one daughter, Terryann Kelley of Raymond; one son, Mark E. Shaw of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; one sister, Jean Shaw of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Greenland Community Congregational Church, 2 Post Road, Greenland.
Janet G. Thompson
EXETER - Janet G. Thompson, 85, of 105 Portsmouth Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
She was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Deering, the daughter of the late Roy and Josephine (Robertson) Gordon. She had resided in Lowell, Mass., Bristol, Conn., Clearwater, Fla., Hampton and Wolfeboro before moving to Exeter eight years ago.
The widow of Stewart D. Thompson, who died July 17, 2002, she is survived by two sons, William G. Thompson of Exeter and Stewart A. Thompson of Fairbanks, Alaska; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Robert R. Thompson of Hampton, and one daughter, JoEllen MacCluggage of Manchester, Conn.
Committal services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Jessie V. Whitley
HAMPTON - Jessie Vera Whitley, 88, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Seacoast Health Center.
She was born June 28, 1914, in Hayle Cornwall, England, the daughter of the late Robert C. and Jessie (Merrifield) Boon. She resided in Gardner, Mass., until 1951 when she moved to Boston. She came to the Seacoast area in 1968.
She was a graduate of a Gardner high school.
Mrs. Whitley owned and operated Jeff’s General Store in Seabrook, now O’Keefe’s, and Gateway Country Store in Seabrook, retiring in 1986. She was previously a bookkeeper for Lee Crane & Equipment Corp., Boston.
She enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet V. Hagan of Hancock, Lynda L. Joyce of Ogunquit, Maine, and JoAnne V. Davidson of Hampton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, R. Cyril Boon and Ronald Boon.
Funeral services were held Monday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Burial was in High Street Cemetery.

Julia M. Call
NEWMARKET - Julia M. Call, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, where she had resided since 1998.
She was born April 6, 1916, in Newmarket, the daughter of John and Helen (Skwiesz) Piecuch.
Mrs. Call worked in the local shoe industry.
The widow of Howard E. Call Sr., who died in 1995, she is survived by four sons, Howard E. Call Jr. of Candia, Thomas Call of Newport, N.C., Dennis Call of Flat Rock, Mich., and William Call of Cold Brook, N.Y.; two daughters, Carroll Reardon of New Durham and Priscilla Trefethen of Newmarket; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sophie Pazdon, Anne Hogue and Alice Kruczek, all of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by six brothers and one sister.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket, followed at 11:30 by a funeral prayer service in the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

James F. Fallon
HAMPTON FALLS - James F. Fallon, 70, of 102 Lafayette Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at his home.
He was born March 5, 1932, in Pittsford, Vt., the son of the late Harry F. and Mabel T. (Pratt) Fallon and had resided in Hampton Falls since 1968 coming from Salem, Mass.
He was a graduate of Pittsford High School and Castleton State University of Vermont. He received his master’s degree in education from Springfield College.
Mr. Fallon sold pools and pellet, wood and gas stoves and was the founder and president of Home and Hearth for the past six years. He was previously a teacher and guidance counselor at Beverly (Mass.) High School for many years. He coached high school basketball from 1958 until 1963 in Windsor, Vt., winning the state championship six out of eight times.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary-Jane (Paige) Fallon of Hampton Falls; two sons and their wives, James P. and Kate Fallon of Hampton Falls and Jeffrey J. and Pamela Fallon of Farmington; one daughter and her husband, Debra and Bill Coles of Newmarket; one stepdaughter and her husband, Leisa G. and David Blatchford of Hampton; five grandchildren; one brother, Edward Fallon of Cario, N.Y.; two sisters, Sue Savage of Alburg, Vt., and Maryly Hickey of Chittenden, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one stepson, Donald Griffin, who died in 1982.
