John H. 'Jack' Walker Jr.
LEXINGTON - John H. "Jack" Walker Jr. of Lexington died May 27, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. He was 60.

He was born Jan. 13, 1941, at Lexington to John H. Sr. and Frances Haskill Walker. He grew up in the Elm Creek area where he attended school.

On May 29, 1960, he married Patty Chandler at the United Methodist Church in Lexington. They lived in Lexington where he drove a truck for several companies and helped local farmers.

His hobbies included collecting toys, visiting with people around town and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Tia (Kevin) McVicker of Brandon, Colo., and Judy (David) Fread of Lexington; a son, Brad (Cindy) of Lexington; six grandchildren, Seth, Stephanie, Logan, Heather and Joe McVicker and Sam Fread; his father; and a brother, Bob (Donna) Walker of Kearney.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his mother; and an infant granddaughter, Skyler McVicker.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Cathy Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Mary Brummet
CABOOL, Mo. - Mary Louise Lehmkuhler Brummet, 83, of Cabool, Mo., formerly of Stapleton, died April 6, 2001, of a stroke.

She was born Feb. 20, 1918, at Stapleton to Nicholas and Lauretta Kramer Lehmkuhler. She graduated from Logan High School in Gandy in 1936.

In 1941, she married Wayne E. Brummet at North Platte.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean (Ned) Therrien of Gilford, N.H; two sons, Jack (Deanna) of Stapleton and Jerry (Angie) of Mountain Grove, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Lehmkuhler of Stapleton and Nola Seymour of Dupree, S.D.; six grandchildren, Jay (Dorretta) Brummet of Omaha, Heidi Brummet of Stapleton, Kenna Therrien of Jamaica Plain, Mass., Staci Brummet of Georgia and Kerri and Amy Brummet of Springfield, Mo.; two stepgrandchildren, Ryan and Scott (Marilla) Thornhill of Missouri; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Macie Thornhill of Missouri and Anji and David Stern of Omaha.

Sha was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her stepmother, Jane; an infant sister, Annie; and a brother Ernest Lehmkuhler.

Services were at Willow Springs Mo., on April 12, 2001.

Marvel A. Brunk
COZAD - Marvel Brunk, 82 of Cozad died May 27, 2001, at Cozad.

She was born Sept. 21, 1918, at Omaha to Harry and Mabel Berka Gross. She graduated form Albion High School and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She worked for two years in a bank.

On April 6, 1940, she married Frank Brunk. They lived in several states before moving to Cozad. She was employed with the First Federal Savings and Loan and from 1956 until her retirement was a legal secretary with Trusdale and Trusdale Law Offices.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and Does, D.A.R., the Nebraska Association of Legal Secretaries and worked on the development of the Henri Museum. Her hobbies were sewing, playing the piano and china painting.

Mrs. Brunk is survived by a daughter, Betty (Tom) Koch of Johnson Lake; two sons, Harry (Bobbie) of Clarkson and Kenneth (Judy) of Loveland, Colo.; two sisters, Dorothy Reynoldson of O'Neill and Luella (Ralph) Nielsen of Omaha; and five grandchildren, Amy Beasley, Aspen and Montey Brunk and Jenny and Tommy Koch.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; and two brothers, Frank and Louis.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Deines officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Lenna P. Chapman
Lenna Pearl Chapman, 95, formerly of Stapleton died May 25, 2001, at the Centennial Park Retirement Village.

She was born Dec. 25, 1905, to James E. and Blanche E. Overman Cline in McPherson County. They later moved to Logan County where she attended the rural Nesbit elementary school and graduated from Baker Rural High School in Stapleton in 1923.

In 1925, she married Merald Chapman. They farmed and ranched in McPherson and Logan counties. After her husband died in 1965, she continued to live on and manage the family farm until 1982, when she moved to Stapleton.

In 1998, she moved to the Good Samaritan Care Center in Callaway due to ill health, and later moved to the Centennial Park Nursing Home in North Platte.

Mrs. Chapman was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Stapleton Senior Friendship Club and was also a charter member of the Nesbit Extension Club. She enjoyed gardening, particularly raising flowers, and sewing. She also liked to cook for her family and be surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, James (Marie) of Stapleton and Richard (Sharon) of Sequim, Wash.; a son-in-law, James Beckius of Stapleton; a brother, Vern (Virginia) Cline of National City, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lila; a son, Clarence; her parents; and three sisters, Lily Trucks, Bessie McIlhenney and Grace Kelly.

Memorials are suggested to the Senior Friendship Club at Stapleton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Stapleton with the Rev. James Novakowski officiating.

Burial will be in the Loup Valley Cemetery at Stapleton.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Inez L. Clark
Inez L. Clark, 84, of North Platte died May 28, 2001, at the Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

She was born Nov. 22, 1916, to Ray Welton and Verna Rutledge McCloud at Neliegh. She moved to Rushville as a young child where she was raised on the family farm.

On May 11, 1938, she married Delbert V. "Doc" Clark, at Chadron. They moved to North Platte in 1960 and had lived here since. He preceded her in death April 25, 1983.

Mrs. Clark was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Signet Chapter 55 Order of the Eastern Stars where she was a past worthy matron. She was also a member and past president of the Social Order of the Beauceant.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay (Doug) Downs of Hershey, two sons, William (Kathy) and Robert, both of North Platte; two sisters, Dorothy Jacobs of Scottsbluff and Lorraine Green of Crawford; eight grandchildren, Allen, Sherry, Robert Jr., Greg and Christie Clark, Craig and Christopher Nielsen and Angie Kaliban; and two step-grandsons, Ryan and Dale Downs; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by, her parents; a sister, Mary McKenna; three brothers, Merle, Lloyd and Loren McCloud; and two infant grandsons.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund, the American Heart Association or the donor's choice.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sam Patterson officiating.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Tom Connely
BROKEN BOW - Thomas "Tom" Connely of Broken Bow died May 28, 2001, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow. He was 92.

He was born May 20, 1909, in Custer County to Thomas and Ella Martin Connely. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1926.

On Feb. 27, 1932, he married Lela Arnold at Grand Island. They lived in the Tappen Valley Community in Custer County where they farmed.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow, and was a lifetime member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge 1688. He was an avid pitch player and played baseball when he was young. He enjoyed auctions, hunting, and fishing.

Mr. Connely is survived by a daughter, Carol (Carl) Christen of Broken Bow; four sons, Ron (Verneta) of Broken Bow, Jack (Clara) of York, Ted of Port Angeles, Wash., and Dave (Cathie) of Lincoln; a sister, Anna Mae Taylor of Broken Bow; a sister-in-law, Juanita (Dean) Connely Gracey of Broken Bow; 18 grandchildren; 32, great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, July 26, 1995; his parents; a daughter-in-law, Emily; a grandson; a sister; and four brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow with Gene Goben officiating. Burial with Elks rites will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

J. Norman Lucas
HOLDREGE - Jerome Norman Lucas, 81, died May 27, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born April 14, 1920, in Browerville, Minn., to Joseph and Elizabeth Motzko Lucas.

On Nov. 6, 1943, he married Lucy Bohr in Cherryvale, Kan.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Slocum of Kearney and Mary (Terry) Gugle of Manhattan, Kan.; two sons, Donald (Kay) of North Platte and Michael (Beth) of York; six grandchildren, Matthew Gugle of Manhattan, Ty (Jackie) Lucas and Kristina (Terry Fesler) Lucas, all of Boise, Idaho, Jennifer (Kirk) Summers of Gibbon, Annie Lucas of Omaha and Josh (Grace) Lucas, of Coffeyville, Kan.; a sister, Lee Lamusga of Minneapolis; two sisters-in-law, Pat Lucas of San Diego and Mary Lucas of Minneapolis; four brothers-in-law, George (Juanita), Francis (Helen), James (Carol), Nickolas (Karen) Bohr, all of Independence, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Everett and Lambert Lucas; and two brothers-in-law, Al Lamusga and Elmer Bohr.

A memorial has been established.

Rosary will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the All Saint's Catholic Church in Holdrege.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church in Holdrege with the Rev. Steve Cooney officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege.

Lila McConnell
GOTHENBURG - Lila McConnell, 89, of Gothenburg died May 29, 2001, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.

She was born May 11, 1912, in Elm Creek to Guy Winfred and Mary Veronica Curran Karr. She graduated from Overton High School and attended Mary Lanning School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for a number of years.

On Dec. 7, 1939, she married John Spencer McConnell in Kansas.

He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1983.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church.

Mrs. McConnell is survived by two daughters, Peggy (Milan) Trumble of Lincoln and Kathleen (Laurence) Payton of Florida; two grandchildren, Bridgett Trumble of Lincoln and Rod (Judy) Miller of Florida; a great-grandson, John Allen of Florida; a brother, Bill Karr of Lexington; four sisters, Vivian Grange of Oregon, Donna Leonard of Nevada, Virginia Berringer of Florida and Nellie Muller of Miller; a nephew, Jack Lhotak of Lexington; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Opal and Olive.

Memorials are suggested to Central Plains Hospice or Hilltop Estates.

Private family graveside service will be today in the Overton Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating.

Blase Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg is in charge.
