Mary Virginia Crider
COWETA, Okla. — Mary Virginia Crider, sister of Martha Barton of North Platte, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Coweta (Okla.) Manor Nursing home. She was 82.
She was born July 4, 1918, to Edgar Nicholas and Dovie Ann Deweese Lindsey in Kevil, Ky., where she received her education.
In 1947, she married Carlos D. Crider at Tupelow, Miss.
Mrs. Crider was manager of Goodwill Industries in Mattoon, Ill., for 12 years until her retirement in 1978. Her hobbies included sewing and cooking.
Also surviving her is a son, Edward Walker of Adair, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Glennis Walker and Carlos Crider; two sons, James R. and Kenneth E. Walker; her parents; two sisters; and five brothers.
The body was cremated and no services are planned.
Wright Funeral Home of Coweta is in charge.
Thor Eggers
OGALLALA — Thor Eggers, 90, of Ogallala died Jan. 21, 2001, at Homestead Healthcare in Lincoln.
He was born Sept. 10, 1910, in Wichita, Kan., to Andrew and Pearl Tillman Eggers. The family moved to Gretna where he attended school until he was age 10. The family moved south of Ogallala, where he attended rural school. As a young man, he worked on the construction of Kingsley Dam and also farmed with the family.
On Sept. 4, 1940, he married Agnes Yunko in North Platte. The couple made their home on the family farm until 1944 when they moved to Clay Center. He worked at a factory, a flourmill and a hatchery.
In 1949, the family returned to Ogallala where he worked for Ellithorpe & Putman Well Drilling for about nine years and for Beitel Machine for a year. In 1960, they established Ogallala Furniture Co. In 1969, he began working for Werner Construction Co. and helped build Interstate 80. He retired in 1978 and helped his sister operate the Erin Plaza until 1982.
Mr. Eggers is survived by two sons: Donald (Kaye) of Lincoln and Gerald of Denver; a sister, Dorothy Eggers of Ogallala; two brothers, Ralph Eggers of Lewellen and Howard (Pauline) Eggers of Phillip, S.D.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; a sister, Marjorie Eggers; and two brothers, Clyde and Herman.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Ray Norris officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Draucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Vincent Aloyois Fagot
LEXINGTON — Vincent Aloyois Fagot, 89, of Lexington died Jan. 24, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
He was born June 19, 1914, on a farm north of Lexington to George W. and Tena M. MacLean Fagot. He was baptized into St. Ann’s Catholic Church, where he was a lifetime member. He sang in the choir for many years.
In 1933, he graduated from Lexington High School, where he played the trombone in the band. He enjoyed music and played in a small dance band after high school.
On Nov. 27, 1937, he married Mary Magdeline Lauby at Sterling, Colo.
He enjoyed his life on the farm and told many stories of his country school days and working on the farm. He worked for the government in agricultural endeavors at the county and state level for more than 30 years. His last occupation was a career of 10 years with Northern Propane in soil experimentation.
Mr. Fagot enjoyed fishing and hunting, first with his brother, Harold, and later with his sons. He was a member of the Blacksheep Squadron model airplane club for some time. The family thought he crashed his planes on purpose just so he could put them back together again in the basement.
At age 72, he took up golf and at age 82 he would e-mail his children. He lived across the street from his parents for 40 years and he unselfishly called on them every day, helping with their household repairs, yard work or any other needs. He was devoted to his wife, Mary, who was recently confined to a nursing home.
He was a man of many talents and could build or fix anything from Tinkertoys to houses. With only a high school diploma, he knew electricity, plumbing and carpentry.
He will be missed for his sense of humor, challenging outlook, his gusto and discipline of self and family.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carol Ann (Jack) Taylor of Geneva; three sons, Jim (Carol) Fagot-Lauby of Bedford, N.H., Bill (Nance) Fagot of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Tom (Cathy) Fagot of Lexington; a sister, Maxine Nalls of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Harold (Evelyn) Fagot of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are suggested to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, the Tri-County Hospital or the Lexington Community Foundation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church in Lexington with the Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home, with wake services at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Harry Edward Heidt
DOUGLAS, Wyo. — Harry Edward Heidt of Wibaux, Mont., husband of Patricia Janeen Patton, formerly of Arnold, died Jan. 23, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyo. He was 67.
He was born March 8, 1933, to Medar and Elsie McKeen Heidt in Waterloo, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He attended Bible college and then traveled as an evangelist. It was during that time he met and married Patricia Janeen Patton on Dec. 18, 1955, in Arnold.
The Rev. Heidt pastored Assembly of God churches in North and South Dakota and Montana, serving at his last church until two weeks before his death.
To fellow ministers he was a mentor; to his parishoners he was a caring shepherd; and to his communities he was a shining example of Christ.
Surviving him is his wife of Wibaux; his children, Sterling (Becky) of Douglas, Troy (Nicole) of Upton, Wyo., and Shirley Heidt of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; three sisters; two brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by twin sons, who died at birth; his parents; and a great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Douglas Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Richard Orchard of Casper, Wyo., officiating. Burial will be in Douglas Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas.
Mildred L. Kearney
KEARNEY — Mildred L. Kearney of Kearney, a former resident of the Sumner area, died Jan. 23, 2001, at the Mount Carmel Home in Kearney. She was 89.
She was born Aug. 15, 1911, to William and Ann Jurgens Reier. She grew up on their farm northeast of Sumner. She attended country school at District 64 Enterprise School and graduated in 1929 from Sumner High School. She received a two-year certificate for teaching from Kearney State College. She taught country school at Hidden Hollow north of Sumner for five years.
On Aug. 15, 1934, she married L. Merle Kearney. They lived with his parents on the ranch until the parents retired and moved to Sumner.
Mrs. Kearney’s children and grandchildren were a big part of her life. She enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed traveling in the camper. She also enjoyed her garden and flowers. Her hobbies were music, reading, writing letters, sewing and painting.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sumner and enjoyed their Mission Circle. She was a member of the Park Valley Aid Society. She enjoyed playing the piano, which she played by ear mostly. She played at church and other places and enjoyed playing several of her own pieces.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Joy (Art) Kopsian of Chicago and Sharon Kay (William) Haislip of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; four sons, Gary Samuel of Lincoln, Ronald Merle (Alberta) of Sumner, Kent Bruce (Denise) of Norton, Kan., and Steven Thomas (Virginia) of Kearney; two sisters, Sylvia Burr of Eddyville and Helen Tilley of Hemet, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters and three brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Mount Carmel Home in Kearney or the Sumner First Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Sumner with the Rev. Joe Harder officiating. Burial will be in the Jewell Cemetery at Sumner.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
Perry Miller
BROKEN BOW — Perry Lee Miller, 96, of Broken Bow, formerly of the Ansley area, died Jan. 23, 2001, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
He was born Nov. 30, 1904, to Cyruso and Ethel Talbot Miller southeast of Broken Bow. He attended King’s District 32 country school.
On Nov. 27, 1928, he married Laura L. Standlea. They lived in the Ansley area. His wife preceded him in death in 1985. In 1989, he moved to Grand Island to live with his son, Zack. In 1996, he became a resident of Sandhills Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Miller was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Ansley.
Survivors include a daughter, Zora (Joe) Adams of Grand Island, Fla.; a son, Zack of Grand Island; a brother, Cyruso (Thelma) Miller of Lincoln; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, his parents, two great-grandsons, a sister Florence Tiff, and a brother Pat Miller.
Memorials may be made to the Ansley Rescue Unit.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Henry Duerksen officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Nellie ‘Chita’ Serrano
Nellie “Chita” Serrano, 65, of North Platte died Jan. 23, 2001, at Premier Estates.
She was born Feb. 11, 1935, to Jesse and Aranda Lopez Navarrete in Platteville, Colo. While she was a child, the family moved to North Platte, where she remained a lifelong resident.
She married Joseph “Manuel” Serrano at North Platte.
Mrs. Serrano was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and enjoyed her family, friends, dancing, cooking, watching the Cornhuskers and listening to Mexican music.
Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Joan Navarrete and Sandra (Kermit) Williams, both of North Platte, Dora (Pete) Martinez of Atlanta, Ruthie (Cuca) Dye of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Lorraine Gonzalez of Garden City, Kan.; three sons, Joe Vincent (Linda) of Windsor, Colo., Jimmy (Melissa) of North Platte and Jerry of Lincoln; her grandmother, Domatila Navarrete of Platteville; five sisters, Angel Martinez of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mary Ellen Navarrete and Rosalie Anthens, both of North Platte, Anne Brown of Cameron, Okla., and Vera Garza of Platteville; eight brothers, Jessie Navarrete of Colorado, Joey Navarrete of Colorado Springs, Colo., Eddy Navarrete of Gothenburg and Johnny, Pete “PeeWee” and Freddie Navarrete and Bobby Alvarado, all of North Platte; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, David; her parents; a brother, Joe Lewis Navarrete; a nephew, Eddy Navarrete Jr.; and a son-in-law, Tommy Dye.
A memorial has been established.
Christian Wake Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Adams & Swanson Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Dillon as celebrant.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
Eldred A. Wilhelmson
Eldred Aubrey Wilhelmson, 85, of North Platte died Jan. 23, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
He was born Nov. 4, 1915, at White to Jacob Robert and Mary Elizabeth Smith Wilhelmson. He grew up in Hayes County and in 1928, his family moved north of Dickens. In 1937, the family moved to the North Platte area to farm.
In 1940, he married Odalite Wynette Halsey at North Platte. They made their home south of North Platte on the farm. She preceded him in death in March 1962.
On Nov. 4, 1977, he married Alberta Louise Preitauer Speck at Farnam. They lived on the farm until 1993 when they moved into North Platte.
Mr. Wilhelmson was a member of the First Christian Church, BPO Elks 985, Eagles Aerie 2839 and Walla Walla Lodge 56 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta; two daughters, Willa Trompeter and Loretta (Don) Stenger, all of North Platte; a son, Stan (Sally) of North Platte; a stepdaughter, Shari (Dan) Briggs of Imperial; three stepsons, Robert (Millie) Speck of Omaha, John Speck of Imperial and Richard (Shirley) Speck of Farnam; a sister, Harriett (George) Rohrbacker of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, George (Ruth) Wilhelmson of North Platte; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two aunts, Frances Wilhelmson of North Platte and Elsie Larson of Curtis; and other relatives.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Edward; his parents; a brother, Fred Wilhelmson; two stepgrandsons, Rick and Chad Speck; and a stepdaughter-in-law Eunice Speck.
Memorials have been established to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the donor’s choice.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lux officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel and prior to services Friday at the church.
Martin Edward Young
Martin Edward Young, 66, of North Platte died Jan. 24, 2001, at his home.
He was born Aug. 3, 1934, to Noel C. and Eunagene P. Belk Young at Alliance. He came to North Platte at the age of 14 and graduated from North Platte High School in 1952. He attended the University of Nebraska for a year.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He then returned to the university and graduated from dental school in 1963. He entered dental practice in North Platte with A.T. Ridder.
Dr. Young practiced dentistry for 27 years, retiring in May 2000.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a third- and fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Nebraska Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and was inducted into the International College of Dentistry in 1990.
Surviving him are two daughters, Lisa Young of Lincoln and Julie (Randy) Mroczek of North Platte; two sons, Mark (Jill) of North Platte and Michael Young of Omaha; a sister, Susan Housten of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, James (Rosemary) Young of San Jose; four grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Katie Mroczek and Amanda Young; and his former wife, Mary Elizabeth Ridder.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the North Platte Catholic School Endowment.
Christian Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Dillon as celebrant. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. The casket will not be open.

LaVern Arthur Kampfe
WAVERLY, Iowa — LaVern Arthur Kampfe, 79, of Waverly, Iowa, brother of Raymond Kampfe of North Platte, died Jan. 15, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
He was born Oct. 21, 1921, to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kampfe. He earned degrees from Gothenburg High School, Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.
On June 1, 1945, he married Doris Elaine Daugs in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa.
The Rev. Kampfe is survived by his wife; a daughter, Elisa Jones of Rockford, Ill.; a son, Dr. Lanny (Jann) of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kevin and Katelyn Kampfe of Iowa City, and Kerry Puckett and Krista Jones, both of Rockford; a great-granddaughter, Alicia Ramirez; a sister Joanna (Dr. Curt) Wurst of Iowa City; and three brothers, Reuben (Dorothea) Kampfe of Gothenburg, the Rev. Martin Kampfe of Dubuque and Raymond (Betty) Kampfe of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger Kampfe of Phillipsburg, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to Bartel Lutheran Retirement Community Chapliancy Endowment, 1922 5th Ave. N.W., Waverly, Iowa, or Lutheran Social Services - pastoral counseling, 3116 University Ave., Des Moines, Iowa, 50311.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly with the Revs. Michael Burk and Stuart Lundahl officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Monona.
There will be no public visitation.
