Gale W. Haase 1923-2004
Gale W. Haase, 80, Casper, Wyo., died Friday, March 12, 2004 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
His funeral will be today at 10 a.m. at the Mount Hope Lutheran Church in Casper with Pastor John Hill officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oregon Trail Veteran cemetery in Evansville, Wyo.
Bustards Funeral Home and Crematory in Casper is in charge of arrangements.

Gale Haase was born Sept. 28, 1923 in Reynolds, Neb., the son of Frank Charles and Rachel Nellie (Sawyer) Haase.
He was baptized in Reynolds on April 5, 1942, and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1950.
He attended school and graduated from high school in Reynolds in 1942.
Gale enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Oct. 15, 1942 and served in the South Pacific during WWII with the 9th Marines and 3rd Marine Division.
He was discharged from the service in February of 1946.
Gale married Anita Mae Ewert in Gurley on May 23, 1950.
The couple lived in Sidney where Gale worked for the National Supply-Armco Steel.
On August 15, 1967, he was transferred to Casper where he retired from the company in 1982.
Gale enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was also a member of the Mount Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Anita of Casper; daughter, Vickie G. Pavey of Casper; sons, Dannie Haase of Laramie, Wyo. and Timothy Haase of Casper and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and seven brothers.
L. Maxine Hixon 1918-2004
L. Maxine Hixon, 85, Chappell, died Monday, March 8, 2004 at Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell.
Her funeral was held Friday, March 12 at the United Methodist Church in Chappell with Rev. Harun Gatobu officiating.
Interment followed in the Chappell Cemetery.
Holechek Funeral Home in Chappell was in charge of arrangements.
Maxine was born July 14, 1918 on a farm near Palisade, Neb., the daughter of Vera and Ross Miller.
She attended school in Palisade and then in Julesburg, Colo. after the family moved in 1926.
Maxine meet Glenn William Hixon in high school in Julesburg and they married on Oct. 1, 1935.
To this union, five children were born.
She was a “city” girl who moved to the farm and loved the land. Maxine will be remembered for her love of family and her enduring energy to be the best possible housekeeper, seamstress, cook and helpmate to everyone. The community will remember her for her involvement in 4-H, the Social Hour Club and the WIFE organization.
Survivors include her children, Vera Clark and husband Marlin of Fallbrook, Calif., Glenda Castle and husband Gary of Atwood, Colo., Jimmy Hixon and wife Sharon of Chappell and Sandra Colloton and husband Michael of Hudson, Wis.; former daughter-in-law, Karen VanWinkle of Pleasanton, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Barnard; brother, Clyde Miller and son, Leonard Hixon in 1988.
Ira Felz 1933-2004
Ira Felz, 70, of Clearmont died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Sheridan VA Medical Center.
At his request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned.
Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Mr. Felz was born Dec. 25, 1933, on the family ranch in Dawes County, Neb., to Ira Austin and Nona (Rivers) Felz.
He graduated from high school and attended college three years.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in April 1952 and served until his honorable discharge in November 1956.
He married Frances Logue Aug. 23, 1953, in Oelrichs, S.D.
He worked as a rancher. He moved to Clearmont a year ago from Chadron, Neb.
He was a member of the American Paint Horse Association and the Highland Cattle Association.
He enjoyed ranching, Highland cattle, paint horses, spending time with his family, rope art, making earrings and other crafts and dancing, especially square dancing.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nona Jillson.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rose Harris of Rapid City and Marilyn Tagart of Alliance; four sons, Marvin of Clearmont, Howard and Hoss of Chadron, and Bruce of Three Forks, Mont.; three sisters, Lola Rathman and Mary Ann Mintken, both of Dalton, and Lora Miller of Ardmore, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Alvin Bartling 1921-2004
Alvin Bartling, 82, of rural Lodgepole, died Thursday afternoon, March 18, 2004 at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 22, in the Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Gurley with the Rev. H. Eldin Wells officiating. Burial will be in the Weyerts Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Alvin George Bartling, the son of William and Margaret (Neiman) Bartling was born May 20, 1921 on the family farm in Cheyenne County near Lodgepole.
He attended the Rush Creek grade school and was later awarded an honorary high school diploma from Lodgepole High School in November of 2000.
Alvin worked on the family farm before working in San Diego, Calif. as an aircraft riveter before World War II.
When the war started, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served until the end of the war when he returned to the farm.
On December 5, 1948 he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Lovell at the Weyerts Church.
They made their home and raised their family on the family farm where he lived until the time of his death.
Alvin was an active member of the Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.
He was also a member of the Rush Creek School Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife Mary Bartling of Lodgepole; four sons, Allen and wife Jolene Bartling of Ames, Iowa, Bruce and wife Carol Bartling of DeWitt, Neb., Edwin and wife Cindy Bartling of Sidney, and Galen and wife Jill Bartling of Lodgepole; three daughters, Cheryl and husband Pat Faimon of Lawrence, Neb., Delma Bartling of Lincoln and Fern and husband Jerome Frei of Potter; two sisters, Lillie and husband Ed Dickes of Sidney and Velma Chambers of Grand Junction, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
John W. McDermott 1914-2004
John W. McDermott, 89, a longtime Sidney resident, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004.
Graveside services and inurnment will be held at 3 p.m. today at Greenwood Cemetery with Fr. Jim Novakowski of St. Patrick’s Church officiating.
Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #17, VFW Post #610 and DAV Chapter #40.
Cremation has been held.
Memorials are to the family’s choice.

John William McDermott was born April 29, 1914 at Farnam, Neb., the son of James and Anna (Agnew) McDermott.
He was raised and attended school in Farnam.
John enlisted with the U.S. Army on Dec. 15, 1942 and served with the 36th Combat Engineer Battalion in the European Theatre.
Upon his discharge on Oct. 26, 1945 he moved to North Platte.
John moved to Sidney in 1956, he worked as the custodian at Sidney Public Schools for many years.
He enjoyed visits with friends and neighbors.
He is survived by one niece, Beverly Ernst of Longmont, Colo.; great nieces and nephew, Brenda Ernst of Fountain, Colo., Tracie Sinclair of Longmont and Richard Ernst Freeman of Longmont.
Thomas A. Christensen
Thomas A. Christensen, 44 of Lincoln City, Ore., died on February 24, 2004 in Lincoln City.
Memorial services for Thomas will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Alan Davis officiating.
Survivors include his parents, Arlene and Clyde Christensen of Sidney; one son, Jonathan Christensen of Grant, Neb.; one daughter, Kathryn Ann Christensen of Grand island; grandmother, Marie Huston of Sidney; grandfather, Tony Christensen of Sedgwick, Colo.; one brother, Richard and wife Kim Christensen of Toleddo, Ore.
