Floyd D. Zikmund

Former area resident Floyd Duane Zikmund, 72, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at his home.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Grand Island with the Revs. Richard Bacon and Valney Lofgreen officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Public Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson and 8 a.m. until services Saturday at the church.
Mr. Zikmund was born Sept. 4, 1926, to Joseph and Georgia Alma (Cook) Zikmund in Edgar. He attended Nelson Schools and graduated from Nelson High School. On Nov. 20, 1944, he married Mercedes Henriksen. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1945-47, receiving his officer's training at Gallups Island. He later worked for the Nebraska Department of Agriculture and managed Twin Rivers in Grand Island. He also was a federal USDA Meat Inspector based at the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center near Clay Center for 29 years. He retired in March.
He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Eagles Lodge in Grand Island. He also was a member of the Nelson Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Timothy of Nelson; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be given in care of the family.
Wava V. Brown

Former Hastings resident Wava V. (Reynolds) Brown, 84, of Benton, Ark., died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings. Ashby Funeral Home Inc. of Benton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Brown was born Feb. 14, 1915, to John and Bevlah (Nedrow) Reynolds in Imperial. She retired as a dental technician at the Hastings Regional Center.
Survivors are one son, Eddie of Benton; one daughter, Marleane Spielman of Phoenix; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Karoline Saathoff

Red Cloud resident Karoline (Waterman) Saathoff, 82, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at her home.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Blue Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Kuehner officiating. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Saathoff was born Nov. 10, 1916, to Henry and Katie (Kerr) Waterman in Cowles. She graduated in 1936 from Cowles High School. In 1955 she moved to Red Cloud. On Nov. 8, 1968, she married Leo Saathoff. They farmed near Red Cloud. She and her husband divorced in 1975.
She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Laurine Rust

Geneva resident Laurine (McCutchan) Rust, 72, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, in Geneva.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Geneva with the Revs. Brian Kottas and Wanda Bennett officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. in the Nelson Public Cemetery. Visitation starts at 1 p.m. today at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Mrs. Rust was born Dec. 18, 1926, to Walter and Audry (Demilt) McCutchan in Superior.
Survivors are her husband, Don L. Rust; one son, Steve of Geneva; three daughters, JoDee Mika of Exeter, Jan Myers of Geneva and Jeanne Royal of Lincoln; and 10 grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Oral L. 'Pete' Owen

Mankato, Kan., resident Oral L. "Pete" Owen, 88, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Jewell County Hospital Long Term Care in Mankato.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Melby Mortuary chapel in Mankato with the Rev. Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation is Thursday and Friday until services.
Mr. Owen was born Aug. 27, 1910, to George and Ethel (Renshaw) Owen near Webber, Kan. He worked for John Deere as a mechanic. During World War II, he worked for Beechcraft, an aircraft assembly company. After retirement, he drove a school bus for the Mankato School system.
Survivors are one daughter, Darlene Sansom of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Bessie Martin of Englewood, Colo., and Nellie Risewick of Superior; one brother, Bill Owen of Superior; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Memorials may be given to the Senior Citizen Center in Mankato.

Zachary James Siebert, infant son of former Blue Hill resident Susan Siebert and her husband, Leo, of McCool Junction, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in York.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Metz Mortuary in Henderson.
Survivors are his parents; one sister; and two sets of grandparents, including Alan and Marcia Woods of Blue Hill.
Grace E. Driscoll

Grace Elizabeth Driscoll, daughter of Mark and Blair (Dewey) Driscoll of Hastings, was stillborn Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are private for the family. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are her parents; three brothers, Andrew, Alex and Avery, all of Hastings; two sisters, Abby Driscoll and Anna Driscoll, both of Hastings; grandparents, Frank and Mary Driscoll of Omaha, Ted Dewey of Johnstown, Colo., and Kay Dewey of Walker, Minn.; and great-grandmother, Mabel Driscoll of Omaha.
Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings.
George Fuller Sr.

Hastings resident George Fuller Sr., 90, of 932 N. Baltimore Ave., died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Mark Farris officiating. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery in Doniphan. Visitation is 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. until services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Fuller was born May 27, 1909, to Daniel Andrew and Caroline (Buehler) Fuller in Grant. He attended school in Trumbull. On July 22, 1936, he married Blanche Patterson. He moved to Hastings in 1936 and worked for Western Land Roller in Hastings as a repairman and welder. He later worked at Patterson Brothers in Hastings until retirement in 1974. On April 6, 1999, his wife died.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hastings.
Survivors are two daughters, Karen Stevens and Linda Beiriger, both of Hastings; two sons, George Jr. of Engelwood, Fla., and Dale of Walnutport, Pa.; one sister, Marie Taylor of Doniphan; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the George and Blanche Fuller Memorial Fund.
Maureen B. Lynch

Former Hastings resident Maureen B. Lynch, 64, of Los Angeles, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at her home.
Services were July 22 at the Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel in Culver City, Calif. Douglas Family Mortuaries of El Segundo, Calif., was in charge of arrangements.
Miss Lynch was born Dec. 11, 1934, to James and Gertrude (Hughes) Lynch in Oconto in Custer County. She attended school in Hastings and graduated as valedictorian from St. Cecilia High School in 1952. She worked for many years as an accounting secretary for Hughes Aircraft Co. in southern California. During the 1984 Olympic summer games, she was employed by the Los Angeles Olympic Committee.
Surviving is one sister, Mary Jenks of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
She was preceded in death by one brother.

Beatrice resident Floyd Herman Franzen, 85, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at the Beatrice Manor.
Prayer service is 9:45 a.m. and services are 10 a.m., both Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beatrice with the Revs. James Fandrey and Douglas Irmer officiating. Burial with military rites by Armstrong Wasserman Post No. 231 of the American Legion, will be in Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Harman-Wright Mortuary of Beatrice and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, including Kenneth of Hastings; one daughter; one sister; and four grandchildren.

Hebron resident Rose Marie (Burd) Gaston, 59, died Monday, July 26, 1999, in Omaha.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron with the Rev. John R. Walton officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hebron. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9-11 a.m. Friday at Price Funeral Home in Hebron, and two hours prior to services Friday at the church.
Mrs. Gaston was born Nov. 19, 1939, to John L. and Emma (Bonin) Burd in Nelson. She worked as a day-care provider.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors are her husband, Dale; two sons, Terry Burkey of Hebron and Michael Burkey of Grapevine, Texas; two daughters, Christine Baden of Hebron and Deborah Lee of McCook; two brothers, Lyle and John, both of Hebron; two sisters, Della Bachle of Alexandria and Jean Kutscher of Hebron; and 11 grandchildren.
