Deshler resident Elsie M. (Mohrman) Paul, 83, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, in Deshler.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler with the Rev. Phillip Nielsen officiating. Private burial will be in the Deshler City Cemetery. The casket will be closed. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Ahrendts Funeral Home in Deshler.
Mrs. Paul was born March 16, 1916, to Henry and Anna (Kruse) Mohrman near Byron.
She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and the county extension club.
Survivors are her husband, Otto; three sons, Kermit of Bethlehem, Pa., David of Bloomington, Ill., and Bruce of Malcolm; one brother, Herman of Byron; one sister, Martha Fangmeyer of Deshler; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Memorials may be given to the Peace Lutheran Church.
Verlie L. Zetterman

Shickley resident Verlie L. Zetterman, 87, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, in Geneva.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Shickley with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the Swedish Cemetery in Shickley. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.
Mr. Zetterman was born Jan. 24, 1912, to Frederick and Edna (Allsman) Zetterman in Shickley.
Survivors are his wife, Maurine; two sons, Lowell of Lincoln and Rowen of Omaha; one sister, Jean Rudd of Sioux Falls, S.D.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Shickley United Methodist Church.
Elnora E. Robertson

Red Cloud resident Elnora E. (Barnes) McManis Robertson, 69, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Congregational Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Royce Rexilius officiating. Burial will be in the Red Cloud Cemetery. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Robertson was born July 13, 1930, to Leonard and Zelma (Blickenstaff) Barnes in Red Cloud. She grew up in Garfield and attended Rural School District No. 85. She graduated in 1947 from Red Cloud High School. On May 28, 1947, she married Glen McManis in Oregon. They moved to a farm near Red Cloud in 1948. She worked for several years as a typist with the Red Cloud Chief newspaper and also worked with Dutton-Lainson Co. in Hastings. On April 20, 1972, her husband died. On Sept. 1, 1974, she married Floyd I. Robertson in Red Cloud. From 1974-90, she operated the Daylight Inn Cafe in Red Cloud. On Oct. 24, 1988, her second husband died.
She was a member of the Congregational Church and the Republican Valley Sodbusters.
Survivors are two daughters, Christina Wilson of Blue Hill and Glenna Roberts of Ayr; one son, Michael McManis of Topeka, Kan.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Randall.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Clyde A. Stineman

Superior resident Clyde Arthur Stineman, 93, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at the Crete Manor in Crete.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Superior with the Rev. Kenneth Fairbrother officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior. Williams Funeral Home of Superior is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stineman was born May 8, 1906, to Arthur Ellsworth and Mary (Badger) Stineman in Jewell County, Kan. He attended grade school in Bostwick and graduated from Superior High School. He worked at the Ideal Cement Co. in Superior for several years. He also worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings while it was under construction. On Dec. 6, 1936, he married Lois Thompson in Superior. In 1971 he retired from Champlin Oil Co. in Superior after 27 years of employment.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Superior Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Sharon Kleven of Hurst, Texas; four sons, Daniel of Kimball, Philip of Lincoln, John of Utica and Nathan of Oxford; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother; three stepbrothers; and two sisters.
Ruth L. Stahnke

Hastings resident Ruth L. (Hoppens) Stahnke, 82, of 1032 Lane K died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil with the Rev. Tim Wiggins officiating. Burial will be in the Glenvil Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Mrs. Stahnke was born April 18, 1917, to Frank and Ella (Schultz) Hoppens in Clay County. On Sept. 3, 1941, she married Lloyd J. Stahnke at Zion Lutheran Church near Glenvil. She and her husband owned and operated the Glenvil Locker and Grocery Store for 20 years. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Nebraskaland Beverage from 1968-79.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Glenvil Woman's Club and the Church Circle.
Survivors are her husband; three daughters, Diana "Dee" Bowcott of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Boneta "Bonnie" Johnson of Half Moon Bay, Calif., and Kathy Riley of Omaha; three sisters, Edna Elfring of Hastings and Helen Weyrich and Ruby Burleson, both of Anaheim, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
Orley J. Rickard

Former Guide Rock resident Orley John Rickard, 90, of Alma died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church in Orleans with the Revs. Duane Lauber and Daryl Walling officiating. Burial is 3 p.m. Saturday at the Chambers Cemetery in Chambers. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma.
Mr. Rickard was born June 2, 1909, to John Samson and Kathryn "Carrie" Elizabeth (Boggs) Rickard near Guide Rock. He attended Hilltop Rural School District 16. On Sept. 26, 1933, he married Nina Lydia Brazee at the United Brethren Church in Shelby. They lived on a farm near Guide Rock until 1936 when they moved to Wheeler County. In 1939 they purchased land in northern Wheeler County. There, he served as secretary/treasurer for Rural School District 16. They sold the ranch in 1982 and moved to O'Neill for two years. In 1984 they moved to Neligh. They then moved to a small ranch near Ord in 1991. A year later, they moved to Alma. In 1993 they moved to Naponee and then moved to Orleans in 1994. In August 1994, his wife died. He moved back to Alma in 1995.
He attended Memorial Baptist Church in Chambers.
Survivors are an adopted son, Daryl Walling of Orleans; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
Memorials may be given to the Orleans Evangelical Free Church.
Jodell 'Jody' Maturi

Former Tribland area resident Jodell "Jody" (Doering) Maturi, 43, of Papillion died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, in Papillion.
Services are 5 p.m. Thursday at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Omaha. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery near Deshler with the Rev. Duane Fahr officiating. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Crosby-Kunold-Burket-Swanson-Golden Funeral Home chapel in Omaha and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Ahrendts Funeral Home in Deshler.
Mrs. Maturi was born Jan. 21, 1956, to Gerd and Alice (Bohling) Doering in Hebron. She graduated from Deshler High School in 1974. She also graduated in 1976 from the College of St. Mary's in Omaha with an associate's degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for American Red Cross-Midwest Region Blood Services in Omaha.
She was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church and the Big Sister Program.
Survivors are her mother of Deshler and two sisters, JoAnn Ehlers of Las Vegas and Joy Harms of Deshler.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorials may be given to the Durbin Family Haiti Mission and Assimilation Ministry Program in care of King of Kings Lutheran Church.
Elsie E. Broyles

Mankato, Kan., resident Elsie E. (Kuiken) Broyles, 92, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at the Manor of the Plains in Dodge City, Kan.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the Christian Church in Mankato with the Revs. Thaddeus Hinkle and Chad Anglemyer officiating. Burial will be in the Ionia Cemetery in Ionia, Kan. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Melby Mortuary in Mankato.
Mrs. Broyles was born Feb. 2, 1907, to Fred and Susan (Dietz) Kuiken in Jewell County, Kan. She taught school for a number of years. On April 23, 1927, she married Lester Broyles. She worked with her husband at L and B Electric Store in Mankato for many years. Her husband later died.
She was a member of Mankato Christian Church and the Mankato Christian Church Gleaners, in which she served as president.
Survivors are three daughters, Patsy Peugh of Dodge City, Rose Williams of Casper, Wyo., and Janice David of Wichita, Kan.; one son, Donald of Kansas City, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Mankato Christian Church in Mankato.
Fern E. Armstrong

Kenesaw resident Fern E. (Aulrich) Armstrong, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Rosary is 7 p.m. Friday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kenesaw with the Rev. John Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until rosary Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Armstrong was born Nov. 11, 1915, to William P. and Leda E. (Crawford) Aulrich near Prosser. In 1933 she graduated from Prosser High School. On March 20, 1937, she married Orville S. Armstrong. They lived in Kearney, Manhattan, Kan., and Heartwell before moving to Kenesaw in 1942. She worked for Weidner's Grocery, the Adams County Bank, Lavern's TV and Appliances, and Kennys TV and Appliances, and was a bookkeeper for Turner Grain Co., all in Kenesaw, before retiring in 1986. On June 29, 1983, her husband died.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar Society and the Crosier Apostolate.
Survivors are one son, Stanley of Kenesaw; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
A memorial will be established.
Clayton D. Feis

Former Bladen resident Clayton D. Feis, 79, of Lincoln died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, in Lincoln.
Services are noon Friday at Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln with the Revs. Donald McCall and Jon Sloan officiating. Burial is prior to services at 11 a.m. in Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8-10 a.m. Friday at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln. The family will receive friends from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Feis was born Jan. 20, 1920, to Louis and Kate (Stewart) Feis in Bladen. On Aug. 25, 1952, he married Frances. He was principal at Dorchester Public Schools from 1952-57 and then taught at Westmar in LeMars, Iowa, from 1957-63. From 1963-78 he was head of the Department of Economics-Business Administration. He was a professor at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln for 27 years.
He was a member and elder of Eastridge Presbyterian Church, a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Gamma Mu and Omicron Delta Epsilon, and chairman of the board of directors of Nemeco Credit Union.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, Dan of Tustin, Calif., Rick of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, and Bill of Sassebo, Japan; three daughters, Michelle McDaniel of Lincoln, PJ Richards of McCook and Mary Kay Weinmeister of Redmond, Wash.; two sisters, Wilma Lutz of Hastings and J'Nelle Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Marvin "Bud" of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Memorials may be given to the Wesleyan University Clayton D. Feis Scholarship Fund.
