Dorothy M. Kidd

Kenesaw resident Dorothy M. (Ramsey) Kidd, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at her home.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church in Kenesaw with the Rev. Tom Gould officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw. There will be no viewing at the church.
Mrs. Kidd was born Oct. 28, 1909, to Lee Williams and Bertha (McAllister) Ramsey near Kenesaw. She graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1927. She attended Hastings College. On Nov. 26, 1936, she married Charles "Bill" Kidd in Kenesaw. She was a teacher at Shelton Grade School and then Kenesaw Grade School. On May 2, 1989, her husband died.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and its Women's Group, Kenesaw Senior Citizens, ENTRE-Nous in Kenesaw and many card clubs.
Survivors are one son, Chuck of Hastings; one sister, Lois Johnson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Church.
Orvey C. Pearson

Former Hastings resident Orvey C. Pearson, 81, of Deming, N.M., died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, in Las Cruces, N.M.
Services were to be noon today at the First Methodist Church in Deming. Burial was to be in Mountain Cemetery in Deming. Baca Funeral Chapel of Deming was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pearson was born Dec. 13, 1917, to Harvey B. and Elizabeth (Hembury) Pearson in Loomis. In 1927 he and his family moved to Hastings. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1936. He then attended Kearney State Teacher's College in 1937. He served in the Army National Guard in Kearney and was stationed for 22 months at the Aleutian Islands in the 110th quarter Master Corp., 35th Division. He was in Hawaii when World War II ended. On May 19, 1941, he married Vesper Searl in Kearney. After he was discharged, he returned to college and graduated in 1945. He coached and taught in Bassett. Later he was principal at Eddyville and Odessa schools. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated in 1951 from New Mexican Highlands College in Las Vegas with his master's degree in elementary education. In 1952 he became principal in Columbus, N.M. In 1958 he moved to Deming where he coached ninth grade basketball and taught fifth- and sixth-graders at Smith Elementary School. He and his wife both retired in 1978.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, Tom of Atlanta, Ron of Las Cruces and Ben of Houston; one sister, Marie Pearson of Hastings; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Harry L. Swanson

Lexington resident Harry L. Swanson, 88, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. at the church. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife; one son; three daughters, including Connie Franzen of Hastings; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Richard A. Smith Jr.

Sutton resident Richard Arthur Smith Jr., 78, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at York General Hospital in York.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hope Reformed Church in Sutton with the Rev. George Horner officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery with military rites by the Argonne American Legion Post No. 61 of Sutton. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith was born May 31, 1921, to Richard Sr. and May (Shaner) Smith near Lushton. He attended Lushton schools and Geneva High School, where he graduated. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in northern Africa and the European Theater. On June 10, 1943, he married Helen W. Rath in Sacramento, Calif. After the war, he worked at his parents' grocery store. In 1953 he started farming near Grafton. He worked as the Grafton postmaster from 1958 until retiring in 1988. In 1991 he and his wife moved to Sutton.
He was a member of the Hope Reformed Church, the American Legion, VFW and the Association of Retired Postmasters.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Denise Johnsen of Holdrege and Cheryl Boer of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son, Steve of Grafton; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Golda I. Nutzman

Former Edgar resident Golda I. (Gerdes) Nutzman, 70, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Richard M. Bacon officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Nutzman was born Nov. 3, 1928, to George and Clara (Smith) Gerdes in Clay County. She grew up and was educated in Edgar. She graduated from Edgar High School in 1945. She then attended the Lincoln Business School in Lincoln. She worked for Western Land Roller in Hastings and several businesses in Grand Island. On Aug. 5, 1951, she married Robert Nutzman in Edgar.
She was a member of the First Christian Church where she was an elder, a deaconess, member of the choir and a member of Circle 5. She also was a member of an Extension Group and Cosmo Pals.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Sherry Lieske of Kearney and Kay Nutzman of Grand Island; one son, Michael of Kearney; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials may be given to the church.
Vern L. Larimore

Edgar resident Vern L. Larimore, 91, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Edgar.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice with the Rev. Rick Cepris officiating. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Larimore was born Feb. 8, 1908, to Eugene Roy and Gertrude Emma (Workman) Larimore in Beatrice. He graduated from Beatrice High School. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years and owned and operated the Edgar Hotel in Edgar for many years. He married Sarah Hanna Isles. She died March 1, 1963. On Nov. 15, 1975, he married Joyce C. Black in Courtland, Kan.
He was a member of the Church of the Plains in Edgar.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Jean Peterson of Courtland, Kan.; two sisters, Norma Larimore and Arla Roberts, both of Beatrice; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joy Hoyer; one sister; two brothers; and one grandchild.
Alice L. Dahlsten

Harvard resident Alice Lucille (Nelson) Dahlsten, 97, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church in Clay Center with the Rev. John Green officiating. Burial will be in the Clay Center Cemetery. McLaughlin Funeral Home of Clay Center is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dahlsten was born August 24, 1901, to Andrew and Effie (Seaman) Nelson near Erickson. She attended Pibel school near Erickson and Peru College, where she received her Normal Teaching Certificate. On March 26, 1921, she married Carl Henry Dahlsten in Bartlett. In the early 1940s, they ran a filling station and cafe in Clay Center. They later farmed near Clay Center. On July 19, 1968, her husband died. She had lived in Harvard for the past five years.
She was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors are two sisters, Mildred Petersen of Scotia and Violet Hull of Oregon; one brother, John of Fullerton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons.
Memorials may be given to the church or the Harvard Rest Haven.
Laura G. 'Gen' Dedrickson

Edgar resident Laura Geneva "Gen" (DeRiese) Dedrickson, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Edgar.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McLaughlin Funeral Home in Clay Center with the Rev. Stan Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Clay Center Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The remains were cremated.
Mrs. Dedrickson was born June 23, 1923, to Harm and Engelbee (Pike) DeRiese near Bloomington. She attended Bloomington School. On Sept. 3, 1947, she married Verne Dedrickson in Fillmore County. They lived in Clay Center. She has lived at Integrated Health Services in Edgar for the past 3 1/2 years.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Clay Center.
Survivors are her husband of Clay Center; two daughters, Beva Davis and Debbie Robinson, both of Aurora; one son, Gary of Clay Center; one half-brother, Edgar Brouillette of Wahoo; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Rudolph 'Rudy' Seemann

Franklin resident Rudolph "Rudy" Seemann, 58, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at his home.
Services were Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kensington, Kan., with the Rev. Frank Pekarek officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Simmons Mortuary of Kensington, Kan., was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Seemann was born May 10, 1941, to Wilhelm and Elizabeth (Rajhes) Seemann near Cedar, Kan. He spent most of his life in the Kensington area. On April 23, 1987, he married Margaret Joanne Reed.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Franklin.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Tina Reed of Hebron and Sara Esslinger of Norton, Kan.; one son, Troy Reed of Franklin; seven sisters, Doris Strege and Ruth Seemann, both of Fond Du Lac, Wis., Maria Wangerin and Wilma Wangerin, both of Kensington, Alma Johanen of West Bend, Wis., Cecilia Grauerholz of Phillipsburg, Kan., and Priscilla Porter of Hastings; two brothers, Paul of Smith Center, Kan., and Thomas of Grand Junction, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

Former Hastings resident Michael A. Rol, 48, of Axtell died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, in Kearney.
Services are pending with Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.
Arnold 'Ted' Thuman

Former Hastings resident Arnold "Ted" Thuman, 61, of Hailey, Idaho, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho.
Services were Aug. 12 at the Wood River Chapel in Hailey with the Rev. Neil Collins officiating. Aldon-Waggoner Funeral Chapel of Boise was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thuman was born July 15, 1938, to Arnold and Bertha Thuman in Scottsbluff. He moved to Hastings in 1962 where he worked for A.H. Jones. He then opened a service and repair station, Ted's Texaco. He later sold his business and went to work as an auto mechanic for Big G Auto. In 1980, he moved to Hailey and worked as a ski-lift mechanic in Sun Valley, Idaho. He retired early due to poor health.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
