'Frankie' Leifeld
Frances M. "Frankie" Leifeld, 82, of 858 Worms Road died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the cathedral.
Memorials are suggested to Central Catholic or St. Francis Hospice.
Mrs. Leifeld was born
on June 26, 1917, at Humphrey to Clements and Alvina (Ruhkamp) Wemhoff. She was educated at Humphrey and then entered the Franciscan Order of Dubuque, Iowa. She was a member of the religious order for 15 years before leaving.
She married Lawrence Leifeld on Aug. 17, 1948, in Humphrey. They lived in Petersburg and moved to Grand Island in 1950.
Mrs. Leifeld was a member of St. Mary's Parish.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Joanie (Mrs. Bob) Buffington of Aurora, Colo., and Jannan (Mrs. Bill) McLellan and Judy (Mrs. Bill) Lammert, both of Grand Island; one son, Donald of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Jean Foltz of Columbus, Mary Polt of Pierce, Josephine (Mrs. Tony) Brendt of Platte Center and Ceir (Mrs. Aloy) Beiermann of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; three brothers, Henry, Severin and Anthony; and one sister, Evelyn.
Mary Foster
GREELEY -- Mary Foster, 99, of Greeley died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the Greeley Care Home.
Services were on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson officiated. Burial was in the O'Connor Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Greeley Care Home.
T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary in Greeley was in charge of arrangements.
She was born
on July 1, 1900, at O'Connor to James and Elizabeth (McSharry) Foster.
Anna Vavra
ORD -- Anna Vavra, 96, of Ord died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the Hallmark Care Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Mrs. Vavra was born
July 21, 1903, at Chicago to Matt and Anna Houska. When she was young her family moved to Ord, where they farmed in the Geranium Township of Valley County. She received her education in the same area.
On Feb. 25, 1924, she married Lloyd L. Vavra at the Geranium Catholic Church west of Ord. In 1930 they moved to a farm near Ord where they lived for 21 years, then moved to a farm in the Springdale Township of Valley County. In 1962 they moved to Ord.
Mr. Vavra died on Aug. 28, 1978. Mrs. Vavra lived in Ord until ill health caused her to move to Omaha in 1994.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the altar society and the ZCBJ Lodge of Ord.
Survivors include two sons, Leonard and Frank, both of Omaha; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Edwin and three brothers, John, Frank and Edward.
Sharon Vermuele
YORK -- Sharon K. Vermuele, 57, of York, formerly of Stromsburg, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at York General Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg. The Rev. Keith Brozck will officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Vermuele was born
Nov. 5, 1941, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Clayton and Doris (Ward) Nelson. She attended school in the Omaha area and then moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she received her LPN training.
She married Leo Vermuele on Sept. 19, 1959, in Sidney, Iowa. They lived in Central City, Hordville, Polk and Stromsburg where she provided home health care.
She enjoyed dolls and was an Elvis Presley fan.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Cindy Green of Bellevue, Kelli Bicknase of Sutton and Kim (Mrs. Dan) Klute of Stromsburg; two sons, Merle of Bellevue and William of Omaha; her mother, Doris Aaberg of Omaha; one sister, Sandy Aaberg of Omaha; one brother, Martin Aaberg of Omaha; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, John.
Allen Scheer
Allen Lee Scheer, Sr., 48 of Plattsmouth, formerly of Grand Island, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at the University Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Plattsmouth Baptist Church. Dr. Allan Wooters will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Plattsmouth.
Fusselmanm-Wymore-Marshall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Cass County Red Cross.
Mr. Scheer was born
Oct. 10, 1951, to LeRoy and Mabel (Post) Scheer in Grand Island. He had lived in Plattsmouth since 1977. He was employed as an Electronic Technician for Allied Communication Equipment and Supply.
Mr. Scheer was a member of the Plattsmouth Baptist Church, the Cass County Disaster Team and IOF Foresters.
In his free time he enjoyed fishing, boating and working with alternative energy sources.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy; one son, Sander Scheer of Plattsmouth; one grandson; his mother, Mabel Wentz of Cairo; his father, LeRoy Scheer of Marion, Ga.; three brothers, Glenn and Steve Wentz, both of Plattsmouth and RayLee Headlee of Weeping Water; and four sisters, Roxanne Jacobson of Plattsmouth, Betty Kent of Colorado, Alicia Gracey of Missouri and RaeLynn Trost of Yutan.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William James Wentz.
Charles Consbruck
MARION, Iowa -- Charles Henry Consbruck, 90, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, and Adams County, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Burial will be in Garden of Memories at Waterloo.
Garden View Chapel of Waterloo is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Consbruck was born
on Dec. 19, 1908, in Adams County to Jacob and Clara (Bohr) Consbruck.
He married Marcella L. Trausch on Feb. 21, 1938, in Assumption. He retired from Peterman and Haes after 18 years. Mrs. Consbruck died on Oct. 22, 1987.
Mr. Consbruck was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary L. Conry of Marion and Dianna Higgins of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rose Moore of Albuquerque, N.M.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Frances Leifeld
Frances "Frankie" Leifeld of Grand Island died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Martha Luft
Martha J. Luft, 85, of Grand Island died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. A family prayer service will be at 1:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 8 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran School Association.
Mrs. Luft was born
on May 15, 1914, at Upland to Henry and Carrie (Brinkman) Evers. She grew up and graduated from high school in Hildreth.
She married George Johnson in 1937 at Ash Grove. The couple lived in Grand Island. Mr. Johnson died in 1958.
She married Delmar Wiles in 1962 at Grand Island, and the couple lived in Alda. Mr. Wiles died in 1976.
She married Raymond Luft in 1983 at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island.
She worked for Allen's self-service drug store in sales and on the line at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. She also owned and operated an upholstery business while she lived in Alda. She worked outside the home for 20 years, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the church circle, Ruth Society, Islanders Extension Club and the Under 40 and over 50 Card Club.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond; three sons, Lonnie Johnson of Alda, Larry Johnson of Grand Island and Roger Johnson of Lincoln; two stepsons, Melra Luft of North Platte and Loel Luft of Grand Island; two stepdaughters, Nadine Luft Iversen of Wood River and Delyce Luft Knuth of Cairo; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, August Evers of Fullerton and Walter Evers of Omaha; and one sister, Edna Arendt of Morrison, Colo.
In addition to her first two husbands, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Ray Price
Ray L. Price, 67, of Grand Island died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Onamae Waddel will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Price was born
on Aug. 18, 1932, at Mason City to Roy L. and Mary E. "Esther" (Gill) Price. He grew up and was educated at Mason City. He worked on the rodeo circuit for a few years. He moved to Grand Island in 1970. He had also lived in Lincoln and Loveland, Colo.
He married Betty Francis on May 21, 1983, at Grand Island. He was a self-employed painter, construction worker and farmer. Most recently, he was a truck driver during the 1980s.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Raymond Price of Auburn and Rodney Price; one daughter, Janet Secrest of Red Cloud; five stepsons, Jim Keifer of California, Stephen and Jeff Keifer, both of North Platte, and Mark and Paul Francis, both of Grand Island; three stepdaughters, Kim Fisher and Kathy Vala, both of North Platte, and Susan Francis of Grand Island; one granddaughter; two stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Lewola Runge of Ravenna and Bernice Yohn of Lakewood, Colo.; and one brother, Melvin Price of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and an infant brother, Larry.
