Elizabeth Hood
ST. PAUL -- Elizabeth Hood, 92, of St. Paul died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Howard County Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas Hyde will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Palmer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or Howard County Hospital.
Mrs. Hood was born
July 3, 1907, at the Gage Valley area east of St. Paul to Burton and Emma (Scott) Starkey. She attended rural District No. 60 school in Gage Valley.
She performed domestic work and child care for various families in the Gage Valley area. She later moved to St. Paul.
She was a member of United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Hood of Lincoln and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Starkey.
Thomas Switzer
TAYLOR -- Thomas Lloyd Switzer, 44, of Taylor died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Loup County High School gymnasium near Taylor. Burial will be in Madison Square Cemetery near Taylor. Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be on Monday at the Taylor Evangelical Free Church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Switzer was born
May 4, 1955, at Sargent to Harold and Colleen (Goehring) Switzer. He lived his entire life on the family farm in the West End community of Loup City. He attended grade school at West End, and graduated from Loup County High School in 1973.
He married Beth Ferguson July 13, 1974, in Taylor. The couple lived on the family farm for 25 years with Mr. Switzer's family.
He was a school board member for eight years at Loup County, and coached Loup County youth for five years. He also was a member of Taylor Evangelical Free Church.
He enjoyed going to his childrens' sporting events, hunting and farm work.
Survivors include his wife, Beth; two sons, Stewart and Preston Switzer; a daughter, Russett Switzer; and his mother, Colleen Switzer, all of Taylor; a brother, Bruce of Burwell; and a sister, Kristi Berg of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold and a sister, Tam Watts.
Michele Gamble
PORT HURON, Mich. -- Michele (McElroy) Gamble, 36, of Port Huron, Mich., formerly of Grand Island, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, in Port Huron after a three-year battle with brain cancer.
Mrs. Gamble was born
to Dr. John and Kathleen McElroy at Grand Island. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1981. She was a member of the girl's 1979 state championship basketball team and a scholarship volleyball athlete at Wichita State.
Adeline Garnich
LARGO, Fla. -- Madeline (Haecker) Garnich, 96, of Largo, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at the Sun Coast Hospital in Largo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Roger Nelson will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to Wisconsin Public Radio.
The James Reese Funeral Home in Seminole, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Garnich was born
July 25, 1903, to Archibald Louis and Helen W. (Woods) Haecker at her grandfather's cottage in Madeline Island, Wis. She graduated from the University of Nebraska and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.
She married Ardath Garnich of Ashland, Wis., on June 1, 1925, in Lincoln. For 73 years, she lived in Ashland where she was a charter member of the local League of Women Voters and the Monday Club, a local charity, and the Presbyterian Congregational Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Glover of Grand Island and Judy Phillips of Largo; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and a granddaughter.
Dorothy Ross
SANDY, UTAH -- Dorothy June Ross, 79, of Sandy, Utah, formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at the Sandy Regional Health Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church Chapel. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Private burial services will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Ross was born
June 15, 1920, at Grand Island to Claude and Linda (Hansen) Powell. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. She worked for the Donald Company in Grand Island, and later became a secretary for the McGraw-Edison Company in Denver, Colo.
She moved to Sandy, Utah in 1994, to be closer to her family.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and shopping with her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. William) Kleman of Sandy, Utah; one granddaughter; one brother, Delmar C. Powell of Grand Island; and two sisters, Evelyn (Mrs. Robert) Ewers of Grand Island and Elizabeth Briggs of Denver, Colo.
Nellie Fisher
Nellie L. Fisher, 94, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the St. Francis Memorial Health Center of Grand Island.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Floyd Goodwin
Floyd Goodwin, 82, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Oswald Sorensen
Oswald Sorensen, 92, of 928 E. Phoenix, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sorensen was born
March 12, 1907, in Torring, Denmark to Soren and Kathrina (Jacobsen) Sorensen. He attended school in Torring and came to the United States when he was 18.
He married Elsie Rasmussen on June 19, 1932, in Broken Bow.
The couple lived in St. Paul where he was employed at the St. Paul Coop Creamery as a butter maker. By 1935 he was a manager of the Scotia Creamery and in 1942 the creamery manager in Wolbach. He became a steam fitter in 1951 continuing that career in St. Paul four years later. In 1962 he went to Grand Island and finally moved to Wood River in 1970 where he retired two years later.
He married Dorothy Duncan on July 10, 1981, in Grand Island.
He was a member of the Eagles, Masonic, Sheriff's Posse, the Elks and St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
He was a Boy Scout leader, an avid hunter, and a gun collector. He liked to paint, carve and do woodworking.
Survivors include a son, Harlan of Grand Island; a daughter, Jan Rathman of Wood River; a sister, Jenny Larsen of Silkborge, Denmark; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, two brothers, and one sister.
Claude Hunt
GIBBON ‹ Claude F. Hunt, 90, of Gibbon died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Church in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour before service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Good Samaritan Center or the church.
O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hunt was born
on July 4, 1909, in Forest City, Mo., to Charles and Minnie (Wood) Hunt. He lived in Missouri and later moved to Shelton, where he attended school through the eighth grade.
He married Betty Claaron on May 7, 1931, in Kearney. They later moved to Gibbon, where they lived through most of their marriage. He drove for different trucking firms over the years and retired from Rayburn Truck Line of Grand Island. He worked repairing small engines for several years after he retired.
He was a member of Faith United Church in Gibbon and the Oddfellows Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and working on small engines.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles of Hansell, Iowa, and Richard "Dick" of Kearney; one daughter, Jennie L. Hunt of Denver; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert "Bob" Hunt of Vernonia, Ore.; and three sisters, Pauline Shultz of Ogallala, Lucille Bennett of Carmichael, Calif., and Rub Champion of Placerville, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two infant sisters.
Thomas Majors
ERICSON ‹ Thomas J. Majors, 81, of Ericson died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Cynthia Altstadt will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Bartlett American Legion.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Bartlett Rescue Unit or the Ericson United Methodist Church.
Mr. Majors was born
on June 22, 1918, at Peru to Charles W. and Byrda (Andre) Majors. He was the last living grandson of Col. Thomas J. Majors, former legislator and lieutenant governor. He graduated from Peru Prep and Peru State College. He taught one year at Thurman, Iowa.
Mr. Majors worked for Russell Sporting Goods before entering the service in 1941. He served three years overseas in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of captain.
Mr. Majors married Shirley Hansen on July 6, 1947. He was a contractor in Ralston and later moved to Peru to farm. He moved in 1962 to Ericson, where he taught and coached at Wheeler Central High School for 13 years. After retirement, he raised Hereford cattle.
He was a member of Peru Masonic Lodge 14, the American Legion and the American Hereford Association.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Thomas Jr. of Arvada, Colo.; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucy Atkins of Scottsbluff and Lora Vlasak of North Bend.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert.
