Bonnie Taylor
GIBBON -- Bonnie Mae Taylor, 50, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at her home south of Gibbon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. The Rev. Tim Stoner will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon with a prayer vigil from 7:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Vernon VanSlyke
ARCADIA -- Vernon Jasper VanSlyke, 74, of Arcadia died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Arcadia City Cemetery with military rites conducted by Arcadia American Legion Post 251.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. VanSlyke was born
on March 26, 1926, at Ord to Jasper and Carrie (Worm) VanSlyke. He was raised and attended school in the Ord area. After his education, he farmed. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1949.
He married Rose Marie Cain on Dec. 9, 1949, at Burwell. The couple lived and farmed north of Ord until March 1965. They moved to Loup City, where they farmed until March 1975, when they moved to Arcadia. Mr. VanSlyke worked for Vernon Erikson, Melvin Swanson, Ord Alfalfa Mill and the city of Arcadia. Being semiretired, he helped his son Jack farm and ranch.
He was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He loved football games and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and playing cards. He loved to run farm equipment, especially the combine, and enjoyed checking the cattle in his old blue pickup.
Survivors include his wife, of the Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City; three sons, Jack and Mike, both of Arcadia, and Gene of Holdrege; three daughters, Diana (Mrs. Marvin) Brown of Rye, Colo., Vonne (Mrs. Kyle) Gustafson of Bellevue, Wash., and Caryl VanSlyke of Arcadia; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson; one great-granddaughter; four sisters, Mavis Sheets, Mabel Philbrick, Muriel Bartholomew and Mildred; and one infant sister.
Susan Gion
Susan Kay Gion, 54, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Abundant Life Christian Center in Grand Island with the Rev. Steve Warriner officiating. Mrs. Gion will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date.
There will be no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Abundant Life Christian Center.
Mrs. Gion was born
on Jan. 31, 1946, to Harold and Mary (Tockey) Riedy at Grand Island. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island.
She married Frank Gion in 1970 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They were divorced in 1977.
Mrs. Gion was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center.
Survivors include her ex-husband, Frank Gion; two sons, Richard Gion of Hastings and Chris Gion, a Marine stationed in Iwakuni, Japan; a daughter, Holly Gion of Everett, Wash.; a brother, Doug Riedy of Grand Island; two half-brothers, Ed Riedy and John Riedy, both of Sioux City, Iowa; and a half-sister, Debbie Kuhlman of Sioux City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Riedy) Robertson; her father, Harold Riedy; her step-father, Frank Robertson; and a half-sister, Marge McKinnley.
Alyce Adams
ST. PAUL -- Alyce M. Adams, 81, of St. Paul, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in the All Saints Mausoleum at Des Plaines, Ill., at a later date.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Adams was born
March 12, 1917, on the family farm near Rockville to John and Joanna (Siwinski) Bonczynski. As a child, she moved with her family to a farm northeast of Ashton. She attended St. Francis Parochial School in Ashton.
Upon completing her education, she moved to Omaha where she did domestic work for several families. She later moved to Chicago where she was employed as a factory worker.
She married Eulys Adams on June 10, 1944, at Chicago. The couple operated several taverns in the Chicago area until their retirement. Mr. Adams died in April 1987. Mrs. Adams moved in June 1995 to St. Paul.
She enjoyed arranging flowers, sewing and crocheting.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Council of Church Women.
Survivors include three sisters, Theresa Curtis of Englewood, Colo., Joan Wysocki of Farwell and Lorraine (Mrs. Richard) Ignowski of Berwyn, Ill.; a brother, Adolph Bonczynski of Seward; and two step-sons, Jim Adams of Chicago and Kenneth Adams of St. Petersburg, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a step-daughter, Norma; a sister, Edith Zumbahlam; and a brother, Ray Bonczynski.
Marie Epp
AURORA -- Marie Epp, 93, of Aurora died Friday, July 7, 2000, at the Hamilton Manor.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Henderson. The Revs. Frank Thomas and Tom Justice will officiate. Burial will be at the EBC Cemetery south of Henderson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Memorials are suggested to the Fellowship of Evangelical Bible Churches.
Miss Epp was born
Nov. 7, 1906, to Peter and Katharina (Wall) Epp at Henderson. She grew up near Henderson and attended District School No. 37. She attended summer sessions at York College and attended Hesston College in Kansas and Northwestern College in Minneapolis, Minn. She received her degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
She taught school for 38 years. She taught at Meade, Kan., for two years; Christian Day School in Mt. Lake, Minn., for nine years; Henderson and Aurora vicinity schools for seven years and first grade in Henderson for 20 years. She retired in 1974.
In 1976, she and her sister moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings where they were busy with volunteer work at the day care center, senior center and nursing homes for six years. In 1984, they moved to Aurora and continued volunteering at day care centers and caring for babies.
She enjoyed traveling. For the past several years, she lived at the nursing home in Aurora. She was a member of the Evangelical Bible Church at Henderson.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Regier and Katharine Wall.
Lenore Mahavier
ST. PAUL -- Lenore E. Mahavier, 90, of St. Paul, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.
Vernon VanSlyke
ARCADIA -- Vernon J. VanSlyke, 74, of Arcadia died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services are pending at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Charles Davis
Charles Halfred Davis, 80, of Grand Island died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Davis was born
on June 29, 1919, in El Dorado, Kan., to Claude and Carrie (Carman) Kerher. He grew up in El Dorado and graduated from high school in Baytown, Texas.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1937, served three years and went on reserve status. He was called back during World War II and served as an Air Force bomber pilot, stationed in Burma and India.
He married Marguerite Jane Anderson on Feb. 18, 1949, in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Davis was put on reserve status again until the Korean War, during which he was stationed at Biggs Air Force Base in Texas. He was discharged in April 1952.
He worked as a welder and did wrought iron work.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 347; the Flying Tigers of the 14th Air Force Association; Disabled American Veterans; and the China, Burma, India Veterans Association. He also was a scout master for the Boy Scouts, enjoyed doing leather work and building toothpick houses and boats.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles Davis Jr. of Alamosa, Colo., Kenneth Davis of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jeffrey Davis of Russellville, Ala.; two daughters, Vickie (Mrs. Maynard) Gress of Clarks and Charlene (Mrs. Brian) Stephenson of Powell, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Bell of Baytown, Texas.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and one sister, Gail Gannon.
Richard Regier
AURORA -- Richard Regier, 68, of Aurora died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.
Memorials are suggested to the Hamilton County Foundation or the church.
Higby Mortuary of Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Emanuel Wadas
ORD -- Emanuel V. Wadas, 87, of Ord died Monday, July 5, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Revs. Jim Warner and Stanley Gorak will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel.

Survivors include five daughters, Terri Waskowiak of Grand Island, Lee (Mrs. Jerry) Bosse of Omaha, Betty (Mrs. Jim) Schimick of Las Vegas, Max (Mrs. Tom) Williams of Billings, Mont., and Patti (Mrs. Butch) Schnittgrund of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; one brother, Sylvester of Grand Island; and one sister, Julia Sydzyik of Ord.
