Kyle Dillon
YORK -- Graveside services for Kyle Francis Dillon, 19, of York, formerly of O'Neill will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Dannebrog.
Mr. Dillon died Jan. 6, 2000, in York.
Mr. Dillon was born
March 25, 1980, in Norfolk to Randy and Willa (Hansen) Dillon. He graduated from Pine Ridge High School in Chadron in 1998. He completed masonry and bricklaying courses in the Job Corp and received several achievement awards while in the Job Corp.
Survivors include his mother of O'Neill; three brothers, Randy Jo of York and Keith and Tanner, both of O'Neill; three sisters, Lisa, Lory and Tina, all of O'Neill; grandparents, William and Estella Hansen of Beemer and Arlene (Dillon) Hawkins of Superior.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandfather.
Frances Maglecic
NAMPA, Idaho - Frances M. Maglecic, 82, of Nampa, Idaho, formerly of Worms, died Dec. 29, 1999, at a Nampa hospital.
Services were Jan. 3 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa. The Rev. Michael D. Schumacher officiated. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at Caldwell, Idaho.
Alsit Funeral Chapel of Nampa was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran School at Nampa or the American Lung Association of Idaho.
Mrs. Maglecic was born
July 1, 1917, in Worms. She moved to Nampa in 1939.
She married Ladislav "Lot" Maglecic on June 14, 1941, in Nampa. They homesteaded in the Deer Flat area and retired in 1975.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Katherine of Boise; three sons, Kenneth of Nampa; Steven of Meridian, Idaho and Dennis of Kuna, Idaho; two sisters, Helen Dankert of Jackson Hole, Wyo. and Phyllis (Mrs. James) Brown of Haysville, Kan.; one brother, Hayward Weller of Nampa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Calvin and Quintin and two sisters, Aldean and an infant.
Ralph Oswald
GILLETTE, Wyo. - Ralph Raymond Oswald, 59, of Gillette, Wyo., formerly of Aurora, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Higby Mortuary Chapel in Aurora. The Rev. Barry McCormick will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Mr. Oswald was born
June 12, 1940, in Turlock, Calif., to Raymond and Alice (Smith) Oswald.
He grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1958. He joined the Air Force right after high school. He served for four years in the Korean Conflict in Japan and Korea. He farmed in Hamilton County after returning from the war.
He married Frances Case on March 11, 1983, in Scottsbluff. They moved to Gillette, Wyo. in 1985 from Scottsbluff.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball and collecting guns.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Tom Oswald of Harvard; two daughters, Denise Lawrence of Lincoln and Stephanie Oswald of Grand Island; three grandchildren; two stepchildren, Brenda Katzemeyer and Brad Russell of Gillette, Wyo.; two stepgranddaughters; one brother, Gerald of Aurora; and one sister, Lucille Ulmer of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Elsie Reher
ROSEVILLE, Mich. - Elsie (Goettsche) Reher, 87, of Roseville, Mich., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Harper Hospital in Detroit, Mich.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Jerold Ruzicka
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Jerold Bernard Ruzicka, 83, of Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of Loma, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, of natural causes.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul's Catholic Church in Huntington Beach.
Mr. Ruzicka was a retired mail department supervisor with Union Bank.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; four sons, Jerome, Ed, Gregory and Jerry Jr.; four daughters, Bridget Kerber, Florence Crawford, Irene Olds and Jeanice Camp; 23 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Victor and Joe; and two sisters, Helen Albee and Mary Houdek.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert.
Verlin Smith
APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - Verlin Smith, 73, of Apache Junction, Ariz., formerly of Ord, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at his home in Arizona.
Mr. Smith was cremated and memorial services will be at a later date. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Petra Banda-Ramos
Petra C. Banda-Ramos, 21Ž2-month-old daughter of Julio and Maribel (Ramos) Banda of Grand Island, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Children's Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., with a 4 p.m. rosary, Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Petra was born
on Oct. 20, 1999, at Grand Island.
Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Luis Banda-Ramos and Julio Banda-Ramos, both of Grand Island; one sister, Aileen Banda-Ramos of Grand Island; and three grandparents, Luis and Jose Sanchez Ramos of Grand Island and Petra Ramirez.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather.
Samuel Smith
Samuel B. Smith, 68, of Grand Island died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Mr. Smith will be cremated following services. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Smith was born
on Dec. 22, 1931, at Cheyenne, Wyo., to Benjamin and May (Seader) Smith. He grew up and attended school in Cheyenne. After his education, he worked for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. He later joined the U.S. Army, serving in Korea.
He married June M. Filkin in 1952 at Fort Hood, Texas. After his military service, he moved to Garden Grove, Calif. He moved to Grand Island in 1972, working as a cook at Conoco Café for 25 years.
He enjoyed fishing and horse racing.
Survivors include two sons, Gary and David, both of Grand Island; three daughters, Janis Schmidt of Orange, Calif., and Susan McNurlin and Cindy Carter, both of Garden Grove, Calif.; six grandchildren; one brother, Neil Schmidt of Joplin, Mo.; and three half sisters, Alice Disabatino of Colorado, Josephine Chapman of Riverside, Calif., and Margie Crom of West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Robert Smith.
Donald Marrs
RAVENNA -- Donald Marrs, 86, of Ravenna died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Brian Fugleberg will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Congregational Church or Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Mr. Marrs was born
on Dec. 24, 1913, to William "Bill" and Ann (McLeon) Marrs. He attended school in Ravenna and graduated from Ravenna High School.
He married Rose A. Helebrant on Oct. 1, 1941, at Ravenna. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Turner Grain Co. in Ravenna, retiring as manager in 1980. He was a lifelong Ravenna resident.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Eagles Club in Grand Island and past member of the Lions Club. He served on the Ravenna City Council.
Survivors include one son, Dale of Germany; two granddaughters; and one sister, Patsy of Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Frank; a grandson; and one brother.
Glen Nielsen
BOELUS -- Glen E. Nielsen, 75, of Boelus died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Alan Davis will officiate. Inurnment will be in Souleville Cemetery at Boelus. Military honors at graveside will be conducted by Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post 201 of Boelus.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Nielsen was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the Boelus Fire Department or the Boelus/Dannebrog EMTs.
Mr. Nielsen was born
on Sept. 12, 1924, in Grand Island to Nels "Chevy" and Anna (Goltermann) Nielsen. As a boy, he moved with his family to a farm southwest of Boelus. He graduated from Boelus High School in 1943.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps, was a rifle marksman and served in the Asiatic Pacific area and the Mariana Islands. He was a clerk typist and served in graves registration during the Iwo Jima campaign. He was one of the few survivors of the entire 3rd Marine Division. He was also stationed on Guam.
He married Norine Young on Dec. 7, 1943, at Loup City. After his discharge in December 1945, he returned to the farm and raised registered Hereford cattle. He later went into the carpentry business, working for his brother Loren and then with several construction companies. He later worked with his own construction crew. After retiring, he continued his woodworking.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a lifetime member of Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post 201 of Boelus and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5820 of Ravenna, Loup Valley Izaak Walton League, Platt-Duetsche and Ducks Unlimited. He served on the Boelus Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Ann (Mrs. Irvin) Baldwin of Cairo and Donna (Mrs. Jack) Britton of Davis, W.Va.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Loren of Grand Island and Alan of Boelus; and two sisters, Anna Marie (Mrs. Paul) Jensen of Bakersfield, Calif., and Althea Forbis of Decatur, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons and one brother, Leroy.
Eva Rice
ORD -- Eva E. Rice, 71, of Ord died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island as a result of an auto accident.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mira Valley Methodist Church south of Ord. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord Rescue Unit or the church.
