Lavona McClure
Lavona Smith McClure, 89, of Grand Island, formerly of Mason City, Broken Bow and Arnold, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. McClure was born
on Nov. 13, 1910, in Castana, Iowa, to Gershom Clifford and Sophrona Beatley Parr. She attended school in Castana.
She married Marvin Smith in 1930. The couple moved to Broken Bow in 1931. They later moved to the Mason City area, where they had a grade-A dairy farm. She moved to Broken Bow in 1965 following her husband's death. She worked for a doctor in Broken Bow until 1971.
She married Joe McClure in 1971. The couple lived in Arnold.
Mrs. McClure was a seamstress. She enjoyed her vegetable gardens and flowers and cooking for large family gatherings.
She was a member of the Methodist churches in Broken Bow and Arnold.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn "Pat" (Mrs. Bob) Krichau of Grand Island and Norma Jean (Mrs. Jim) Mikkelsen of Florissant, Colo.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and two brothers, Kenneth and Kermit Parr of Castana, Iowa.
Agnes Stobbe
Agnes A. Stobbe, 79, of Grand Island died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Curran Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paul Hofrichter officiating. Mrs. Stobbe will be cremated following services, and the cremains will be buried at 3 p.m. Thursday in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the chapel.
Mrs. Stobbe was born
on Nov. 1, 1920, in Omaha to Michael and Mary (Soucek) Karas. She attended school there for a few years. Then the family moved to a farm near Plattsmouth, where she continued her education.
She married Theo Stobbe on April 19, 1941, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple lived and worked in Omaha for a year. She worked at various jobs, including as a waitress at the Rose Lodge in Omaha and at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island while her husband served in World War II.
After the war, the couple moved to a farm near St. Michael and later to farms near Ashton. She had also worked for Delicious Foods, the Grand Island public schools, Woolco and Uniforms and More.
While living in Ashton, she was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and its auxiliary as well as the Ashton American Legion Auxiliary.
The couple retired to Grand Island in 1976.
She enjoyed making doll clothing and reading.
Survivors include one son, Joe M. Stobbe of Ashton; three daughters, Carol Dzingle and Barbara (Mrs. Steve) Fuller, both of Grand Island, and Judi (Mrs. Roger) Pemberton of Loup City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Joe, Frank, Bill and Jim; and five sisters, Mary, Bessie, Ann, Helen and Ruzena.
Barbara Ackley
GIBBON -- Barbara Mae Ackley, 65, of Gibbon died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.
There will be no visitation.
Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon and Shelton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Emergency Unit.
Mrs. Ackley was born
on June 14, 1934, in Beardstown, Ill., to William and Mary L. (Knous) LaMaster. She grew up and was educated in Rushville, Ill.
She married Charles E. Ackley on Oct. 14, 1950, in Beardstown. They lived at Beardstown before moving to Clinton, Okla., in 1962. In 1974, they moved to Gibbon, where she was a supervisor at the Nebraska Turkey Growers plant.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Charles Allen of Clinton, Okla., Ronald of Burns Flat, Okla., Terry of Gibbon and Harold of Ravenna; three daughters, Linda (Mrs. Jay) Isaac of Kearney, Ruth (Mrs. Donald) Lee of Butler, Okla., and Judy (Mrs. Randy) Ureste of Lexington; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Gladwell of Beardstown, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Albert Goodwin
CAIRO -- Albert Goodwin, 76, of Cairo died Monday, May 15, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral Home.
Clarence Johnson
WOOD RIVER -- Clarence H. Johnson, 74, of Wood River died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Private family services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River with the Rev. Dominic Pecoraro officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Johnson was born
on Feb. 28, 1926, in Bessemer, Ala., to Dewey and Minnie (Cullier) Johnson.
He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 and served during World War II until 1945. He then entered the U.S. Air Force and served from 1950 to 1953 and again from 1956 to 1965.
He married Sarah Keezer on Sept. 2, 1950, in Seguin, Texas. After living at various military posts, the couple moved to Grand Island in 1965. He worked for Berkley Pumps and Chief Industries and drove delivery trucks.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and baseball.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Bob of Petersburg; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three nephews and three nieces that the couple raised.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Ronald Schooley
WOLBACH -- Ronald Schooley, 58, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at his home near Wolbach.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at his home, 2369 Jansen Road, Wolbach, with the Rev. Martha Voigt officiating. There will be a private family burial.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Mid Nebraska Pride.
Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor Wells
BROKEN BOW -- Eleanor Irene Wells, 73, of Broken Bow died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Clifford Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Custer Center Cemetery near Broken Bow.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Wells was born
on Sept. 3, 1926, in Missouri to Ray and Beulah Link.
She married Lloyd Wells on June 20, 1942, in Broken Bow. She taught school while her husband was in the service during World War II and after he returned home. The couple purchased a ranch southeast of Broken Bow in the Cumro community in 1950. They moved to a home north of Broken Bow in 1974, retired and sold the ranch in 1998.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, flowers, auctions and quilts.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Connie (Mrs. Daniel) Wagner of Broken Bow; one son, Wayne Wells of Taylor; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth of Grand Island; and one sister, Letha Mae (Mrs. Richard) Province of Fort Collins, Colo.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon Link.
Lyle Rachow
GIBBON -- Lyle E. Rachow, 36, of Gibbon died Thursday, May 11, 2000, southwest of Gibbon.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith United Church in Gibbon. The Rev. Barbara Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.
Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Buford E. and Virginia Rachow of Hazard; his mother and stepfather Darlene K. and Roland Spencer of Gibbon; one son, Thaddeus of Albion; two daughters, Bethany and Hillary of Albion; two brothers, Larry and Lonnie of Gibbon; one sister, Lynette Gillming of Kearney; and two grandfathers, Orion Rachow of Hebron and Bill Cool of Gibbon.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mable Rachow and Margaret Cool.
Eva Christensen
IMPERIAL -- Eva V. Christensen, 89, of Imperial, formerly of the Dannebrog and St. Paul areas, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at the Milder Manor Long-term Care Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog with the Revs. Robert Carlson Jr. and Robert Frank officiating. A private family burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog.
There will be no visitation.
Services also will be at 11 a.m. MDT Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial with the Rev. Robert Frank officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Imperial Senior Center.

Mrs. Christensen was born
on Feb. 15, 1911, in Loup City to Camma and Laura (Hendrickson) Stroud. When she was 2, the family moved to Boelus. She graduated from Boelus High School in 1929.
She married Elmer Christensen on Feb. 15, 1932, in Cairo. They lived on a farm northwest of Dannebrog for 52 years. They moved to St. Paul in 1983. She was activities director for Heritage Living Center in St. Paul before retiring when she was 77.
She was a past vice president of the Central Nebraska Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, served as secretary-treasurer of the Nysted school district for four terms and on the Central Nebraska Agency of the Aging board of directors.
She wrote a column in the St. Paul Phonograph Herald for 20 years, served as organist and choir director at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog for 52 years and as Sunday school superintendent and organist for St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
She was a member of the Howard County Sunday School Teachers Association for many years and taught piano to children.
She volunteered in long-term care centers, offering programs with music, humor, Scripture and conversation. She continued to volunteer as a musician at the Chase County Senior Center in Imperial and the Imperial Manor up to two weeks before her death.
She received the Community Service Award from the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce in 1986.
Survivors include one son, J. Gordon of Imperial.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Glen Stroud.
