KEARNEY - Robert A. Pfeil, 76, of Alma died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Word Teaching Center in Alma with the Pfeil family officiating. Private burial was at Alma Cemetery.
Banta-Torrey Funeral Home of Alma is in charge of arrangements.
Lester McInroy
Former Kearney resident, 88
NEVADA, Mo. - Lester Ward McInroy, 88, of Nevada, formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center in Nevada.
Burial of cremains will be at Kearney Cemetery.
Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
He was born
Aug. 9, 1914, in Kearney to Oscar and Jessie McInroy. He lived in rural Kearney most of his life.
On March 5, 1936, he married Treva Laue in Elm Creek, Neb. He was a farmer and cattle buyer and raised cattle and show horses.
He retired in 1981 and moved to Kearney, where he owned racehorses until 1986.
In 1997, the couple moved to Nevada.
He was a member of the Nevada Eagles and a past member of the Nebraska Elks Association.
Survivors include his wife; son, Richard of Milo, Mo.; daughter, Janna Schworer of Omaha; sisters, Betty LeValley and Gladys Dixon, both of Denver; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
John Lawhead
Kearney resident, 62
OMAHA - John E. Lawhead, 62, of Kearney died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Arrangements are pending at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary.
John Camp
Wood River resident, 90
WOOD RIVER - John "Ben" Camp, 90, of Wood River died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Wood River with the Rev. Rose Bartleson officiating. Burial will be at Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
He was born
Oct. 22, 1913, in Hampton to Lewis and Minni (Hutsell) Camp.
On Sept. 10, 1953, he married Gladys McAhren in Wood River,
Survivors include his wife; sons, John of Fort Morgan, Colo. and Gary of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
His family moved to Gibbon and then to Crook, Colo.
He graduated from Crook High School in 1933.
The family moved back to Gibbon where he worked construction. During the winters, he worked in Long Beach, Calif., in the shipyards.
In 1950, he moved to Wood River and began farming.
He and his wife lived their entire married lives in Wood River where he farmed until 1978.
He was a member of the Wood River District 8 School Board for several years until 1957.
He served on the Hall County Board of Supervisors from 1958 to 1978, serving as president in 1975.
In 1985, the couple began spending winters in Texas, Florida, California and Arizona until 1999.
He was a member of the church in Wood River, the Eagles Club in Grand Island, the Wood River Lion's Club, the Platt-Deutsche Society in Grand Island and Royal Neighbors of America.
He enjoyed golfing and had two holes-in-one. He also enjoyed shuffleboard and had won numerous tournaments, Nebraska football and farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harold, Dean, Leon and an infant, sisters, Mary Ethel, Mildred, Ruth, Marlea, Dorothy and Alice; and a grandson, Donn.
Memorials are suggested to the church in Wood River, the Wood River Community Club or the Wood River Rescue Squad.
Marie Graff
Orleans resident, 82
ALMA - Marie Maxine Graff, 82, of Orleans died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Harlan County Health Systems in Alma.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Rev. Harlan Waskowiak officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Orleans.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
She was born
July 16, 1921, in Arcadia, Kan., to Clyde and Gertie (Thompson) Campbell.
She married William Mikessell in Arcadia.
She later married W.F. Graff.
Survivors include her husband; son, Dick Mikessell of Norton, Kan.; daughter, Billie Garrett of Grandview, Mo.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; stepsons, Neil Graff of Omaha and Mike Graff of Lincoln; stepdaughter, Judy Coady of Reno, Nev.; and seven stepgrandchildren.
Adeline Geisler
Kearney resident, 81
KEARNEY - Adeline L. Geisler, 81, of Kearney died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Jose Chavez officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be until 8:30 p.m. today at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and until service time Thursday at the church.
Wake services will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.
She was born
March 12, 1923, on a farm in Sherman County near Loup City to John and Maggie (Kowalski) Mazankowski.
On April 24, 1948, she married Dwane Geisler in Hazard. He died March 10, 2004.
Survivors include her daughter, Marlene Trampe of Amherst; brothers, Leonard Mazankowski of Kearney and Delphie Mazankowski of Colfax, Calif.; sisters, Irene Schmitz of Kearney, Florence Stephens of Boring, Ore., Rita Moore of Albany, Ore., Dorothy Fox of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Marietta Perlinger of Elsie; and three great-grandchildren.
Additional survivors include her son-in-law, Delman Trampe of Amherst; and grandchildren, Jolene Baldwin and Ryan and Brady Trampe.
She attended rural schools in Sherman County and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1942.
She taught for several years in rural schools and then attended Kearney State Teacher's College to renew her normal training certificate and continued to teach in rural schools in Buffalo County until May 1949.
She and her husband lived in Pleasanton, and she worked at Vokouns' Café until they moved to Kearney in 1971.
She worked as a cashier at Uni-Mart until she retired in 1986.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers and three sisters.
Memorials are planned to the Good Samaritan Hospice Program.
Genise Hoffman
Cozad resident, 80
COZAD - Genise Hoffman, 80, of Cozad died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Cozad Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Cozad with the Rev. Lyle Schoen officiating. Family burial services will be at Cozad Cemetery.
Memorial book may be signed until 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
She was born
Jan. 11, 1924, in Grant to Russell and Ethel (Winn) Sexson.
On March 20, 1946, she married Wayne Hoffman in Grant.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Steve of Aurora, Colo., and Tom of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter, Mary George of Kearney; brothers, Bob Sexson and John Sexson, both of Grant; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Edith Davis
Kearney native, 91
SAN ANTONIA, Texas - Edith A. Davis, 91, of San Antonio, formerly of Kearney, Neb., died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in San Antonio.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North in San Antonio. Burial will be at Mission Burial Park North with the Rev. Ilene Dunn officiating.
She was born
Aug. 26, 1912, in Kearney to Roy and Hattie Pledger.
She married Ivan Davis. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter, Joan Schmitz; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
