Kathryn Wallace
Cozad resident, 83

KEARNEY — Kathryn Wallace, 83, of Cozad died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Parkview United Methodist Church in Cozad with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

She was born icon Dec. 24, 1917, in Benedict to John and Elizabeth (George) Volzke. She graduated from Beaver Crossing High School.

On Oct. 12, 1940, she married George Wallace in Aurora. They lived in the Custer County area before moving to Cozad in 1956.

She was an active member of the church and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge and B.P.O. Does.

Survivors include her husband; son John of Grand Island; daughter Georgina Lehmann of Minden; sisters, Evelyn Hunkins of Ansley and Vera Mae Horn of McCook; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jack Rodgers
Grand Island resident, 71

GRAND ISLAND — Jack L. Rodgers, 71, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Jim Keyser officiating. Burial will be at Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 6 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, Easter Seal Society or the donor's choice.

He was born icon Oct. 19, 1929, at Eddyville to Oakley and Eva (McMahon) Rodgers. He graduated from Eddyville High School in 1947.

On July 8, 1948, he married Naida J. Thomas at Lexington. They made their home in Eddyville until moving to Grand Island in 1950. He was employed as a salesman for Kelly Supply Co. until retiring in 1965 due to his health.

He was a member of the church and past member of the Grand Island Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife and daughter Connie Olson of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lena Buchholz
Lexington resident, 106

LEXINGTON — Lena E. Buchholz, 106, of Lexington died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Buffalo Grove Presbyterian Church near Lexington with the Rev. Steve Seines officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor's choice.

She was born icon May 7, 1895, at Lexington to Henry and Kathrine (Henrick) Velte. The family moved to Eustis where she attended school.

On Feb. 26, 1919, she married Benjamin Buchholz at Lexington. They farmed near Lexington. Her husband died in 1938. For many years she babysat for area families.

She was a member of the church, former Sunday school teacher and past member of the Hillside Hustlers Ladies Club. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, growing flowers and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Wayne of Lexington; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, three brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

Lily Wagner
Bertrand resident, 87

BERTRAND — Lily M. Wagner, 87, of Bertrand died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege with the Rev. David Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Child Evangelism Fellowship.

She was born icon March 17, 1914, in Phelps County near Funk to Peter and Sorine (Swensen) Christensen. She graduated from Oxford High School and then earned a teaching certificate. She taught grades one through eight at rural school District 65 in Phelps County for three years.

On May 24, 1935, she married Lloyd Wagner. They farmed near Bertrand. In 1958 they moved to Castle Rock, Colo., where they owned and operated Lifeline Boys Ranch for foster boys for several years. Her husband died in 1970.

She was active in child evangelism at Longmont, Colo., at Calvary Baptist Church until 1988. She returned to Nebraska in 1988.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald of Grant, N.M., and Gary of Westminster, Colo.; foster sons, Jerry Breeden of Los Angeles and Randy Schreiner of Greeley, Colo.; sister Georgia Kuck of Bertrand; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, and a brother.

Dennis Tucker
Holdrege resident, 47

HOLDREGE — Dennis Tucker, 47, of Holdrege died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege with the Rev. Dixon Powers officiating. Burial of cremains will be later at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, and the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

He was born icon April 13, 1953, in Hutchinson, Kan., to David and Shirley (Elliott) Tucker. The family moved to Superior in 1959, and he attended school there.

He played drums for a band in Lincoln for several years. He moved to Holdrege in 1980. He had worked for Sun Mart South for several years.

Survivors include his parents; brothers, Elliott of Lincoln and Larry of Holdrege; and grandmother, Etha of Holdrege.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandfather.

Richard Urwiller
Ravenna resident, 71

RAVENNA — Richard "Dick" Urwillwer, 71, of Ravenna died of cancer Sunday, March 31, 2002, at his home east of Ravenna.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ravenna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Cadenbach officiating. Burial will be at Ravenna Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

He was born icon April 20, 1930, in St. Michael to Norton and Mabel (Wheelock) Urwiller. He grew up on the family farm east of Ravenna and attended St. Michael School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954 and served in California and for one year in French Morocco during the Korean War.

On Jan. 19, 1952, he married Beulah Struble in Ravenna. They lived in California before moving back to the family farm east of Ravenna. In 1972, the family started Urwiller's Melon Patch on the farm. He worked in the melon business and other farming endeavors until failing health forced him to stop in 2001.

He had served on the St. Michael Rural Board of Education.

He enjoyed planting trees to create shelterbelts, reading, history and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Ronald of Lancaster, Calif., Randal of Hawkins, Texas, and Robert of Ravenna; daughter, Kristine Graczyk of Ravenna; sister, Margy Kieborz of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother.

J. Bruce White
Broken Bow resident, 70

BROKEN BOW — Jerrold Bruce White, 70, of Broken Bow died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Revs. Jim Stark and David Hansen officiating. Burial will be at Grand View Cemetery in Anselmo.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Rescue Unit.

He was born icon Oct. 7, 1929, at Anselmo to George and Florence (Predmore) White. He graduated from Anselmo High School in 1947 and served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1963.

In 1955, he married Evelyne Duryea of Brewster. They lived in Grand Island, where he was employed at Gambles. They moved to Wood River in 1959, where he worked as a farmhand until returning to Grand Island and Gambles in 1961. The couple moved to Broken Bow in 1965, and they became owners/managers of the Gambles Store until retiring in 1990. He continued to raise cattle on his ranch north of Anselmo.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a lifetime member of the Anselmo Veterans of Foreign Wars, which he served as commander.

Survivors include his wife; son, Robert, Lubbock, Texas; daughters, Karen Hutsell, Kansas City, and Patricia Zeleski, Lincoln; brother, Ron, Anselmo; sisters, Patty Jackson, Broken Bow, and Louise Gilpin, Grand Island; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
