Keith Leavitt
Keith Leavitt, 84, of Grand Island, formerly of Bellevue, died Monday June 18, 2007 at Tiffany Square.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Island. Additional services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Bellevue Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Burial will be in the Bellevue Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be one hour before both services. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.

Keith was born icon May 14, 1923 at Limestone, Maine the son of Roscoe and Bessie (Ward) Leavitt. Keith was raised and received his education in Limestone where he graduated from high school. He joined the United States Army Air Corp following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served in the European Theatre. He was discharged and in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1971. While serving in Indonesia he met his wife Antoinette. They married March 25, 1950 in Long Island, NY. He served at many posts throughout the world, retiring at Offutt Air Force base in Bellevue. Following the death of his wife, he moved to Grand Island in 2002.

Those left to cherish his memory are a son and daughter-in-law Jamie and Rose Leavitt of Fort Calhoun, daughters and a son-in-law Cinnamon and Larry Leavitt-Glick of Las Vegas, NV and Jeanne Williams of Grand Island a brother Vernon Leavitt of Caribou, Maine and his grandchildren Cade and wife Jessica, Joshua and wife Jennifer, Jay and wife Cheryl, Jared and finance Michelle, Rebecca, and David and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, his parents and seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the VFW and the Masonic Order.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

John "Jack" R. Lincoln
John “Jack” R. Lincoln, 71, of Grand Island, died Wednesday April 11, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Cheryl Lamb will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Jack was born icon on February 5, 1936 in Beatrice, NE the son of Ross and Irene (Hill) Lincoln. He was raised and received his education in Beatrice graduating from Beatrice High School in 1954. He graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1959 with a Bachelors of Arts degree. He worked at Hesteds Co. in Lincoln, NE as an Assistant Manager from 1959-1960. He was united in marriage to Patricia Clayton on October 8, 1961 in Central City, NE. They lived in Lincoln where he worked at JC Penney in downtown Lincoln. They moved to Grand Island in 1964 where he served as an assistant Manager at JC Penney.

He was a member of the Army Reserve from 1959-1965 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Jack worked for the Nebraska Job Service from 1966-1995, 27 years as manager of the Grand Island Office and two years as an interviewer in out state offices including Lexington, Columbus, Falls City and Scottsbluff.

He was active with Grand Island Chamber of Commerce. Served as Deacon and usher for First Presbyterian Church where he was a member of 44 years. After retirement he did volunteer work at the St. Francis Medical Center, member of Central Nebraska Studebaker Car Club, the Western Wheels Studebaker Club, the South Dakota Studebaker Club, and Vintage and Classic Car Club and the Saddle Club.

His hobbies included reading, working on classic cars, traveling, going to car shows, going to NU Football games, playing bridge and enjoying his grandchildren’s activities.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Pat, daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and John Svec of David City, Terri and Jerome Wagner of Columbus, son John Lincoln of Grand Island and grandchildren Emilee, Katie, John Paul, and Maggie Svec of David City, Ben and Marc Wagner of Columbus.

His parents, his sister Shirley Abbott and nephew Eric Abbott preceded him in death.

Memorials as suggested to Edith Abbott Memorial Library, First Presbyterian Church, and the Humane Society or donor’s choice.

Nathan J. Maher
Nathan J. Maher, 29, of Grand Island, died Sunday, June 3, 2007.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Allen Runyon will officiate.

Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before services.

Nathan was born icon May 15, 1978 at Redding, California the son of Edward and Nancy Maher. He grew up and received his education in California. He has lived in Nebraska for the past 13 years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his special friend Jenny Reed of Grand Island, Nebraska, children Alexziah Reed, Landon Reed, Gracieona Reed, Kayla Long, his mother Nancy Adair of Red Bluff, California, father Edward Maher of Redding, California, brothers Aaron, Christopher and Jeffrey of California and a sister Tiffany Chenchek of Red Bluff, California.

Jack Maloy

Jack Maloy went to be with his Lord on Monday May 7, 2007 at Bickford Cottage in Grand Island.

Jack was born icon May 1, 1925 at Des Moines, IA the son of Edward and Frances (Caulfield) Maloy. He received his education in Des Moines, IA and graduated from Iowa State University in 1949. He served in the United States Army during WWII and Korea. He was united in marriage to Gwendolynne Stone on February 19, 1949 at Des Moines. They moved to Grand Island in 1966. Jack retired from TCI Cable TV in Grand Island in 1991. Following retirement they became full time RV’ers belonging to the Escapee RV Club.

There will be a gathering of family and friends Thursday from 6-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Jack Rademacher will officiate. Private family burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughters and son-in-law, Chris Callahan of Grand Island, Terri and Gordon Svoboda of Grand Island, sons and daughters-in-law, Matt and Linda Maloy of Seminole, FL, Patrick and Deborah Maloy of Lincoln and grandchildren Mike, Michelle, Jim, Benjamin and Daniel Maloy, Jennifer Brummund, Tanya Gebhard, Nick Osborn, Abby, Amy and Paul Svoboda, and great grandchildren Ashley Gebhard, Sean Maloy, Glen Miller and Adrianna DeLeon, Annslee and Caralise Maloy, and Matthew and Katie Brummund.

His wife Gwen preceded him in death on February 15, 2004.

In addition to his wife, his parents, granddaughter Katherine and son-in-law Ray Callahan preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Francis Hospice the American Cancer Society.

Darlene A. Mattes
Darlene A. Mattes, 70, of Grand Island, died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Wayne Oblender will officiate. Cremation will take place following the services.

Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.

Darlene was born icon April 5, 1937 at Carroll, NE the daughter of Leonard and Irene (Wacker) Blecke.

She was raised on a family farm near Carroll. She attended country school and graduated from H.H. Hahn Campus School in 1954 at Wayne, NE. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Mattes on June 20, 1954 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll.

She had a passionate love for her grandchildren, growing flowers and crocheting. She also loved to cook and served in that capacity in several schools. She loved her Lord, and was quite busy with church activities most of her life. She also loved the fellowship of other church members.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Gilbert, sons and daughters-in-law, Barry of Corvallis, OR, Bradley and Ellen of Fairfield, Ohio, Lane of Hayden, ID, Curtis of Grand Island, and Christian and Allyn of Lakewood, CO, her mother Irene Blecke of Wayne, NE, sisters Fauneil Pospishil of Irene, SD and Barbara Harrison of Waterloo, NE and brothers Merlin Blecke of Brighton, CO, Dennis Blecke of Loveland, CO, Lowell Blecke of Waterloo, NE, William Blecke of Wakefield, NE, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Her father preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to the Life Issues Institute.

Helen L. McCown
Helen L. McCown, 80, of Grand Island, died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at her home..

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Helen was born icon July 31, 1926 at Oconto, NE the daughter of Claus and Estella (Porter) Buck. Helen was raised and received her education in Oconto graduating from high school in 1943. She moved to Grand Island working for the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant.

She is a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, enjoyed life, spending time with grandchildren, and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Those left to cherish her memory are children and their spouses, Carolyn and Jim Anthony of Grand Island, Kathy and Richard Goding of Curtis, NE, Chuck and Becky Oxner of Hermosa Beach, CA, Joyce and Chuck Haase of Grand Island and Sherry Allen of Grand Island, a sister Frances Curren of Broken Bow, NE, 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Her parents, a brother, 3 sisters, and granddaughter Michelle Goding preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice.

Donald "Mick" L. McMullen
“Mick” Donald L. McMullen, 71 of Grand Island, died Thursday May 31, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Reverend Harold Stromer will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mick was born icon November 18, 1935 at Grand Island the son of John R., Sr. and Tillie (Fenstermacher) McMullen. He was raised in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1953. He attended the Barnes School of Commerce in Denver. On June 9, 1957 he was united in marriage to Janice Kutschkau in Grand Island.

He was in partnership with his father and brother in McMullen Farm Supply Company. He was a bookkeeper for various businesses. He was a salesman for ABC Trusses and various other companies.

He was a lifetime member of Hall County Livestock Association and past trustee for Fonner Park. He loved horseracing, golf, keno, enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting events, cross word puzzles, and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are children Steven McMullen, Terri and Mike Dickinson, Kristine McMullen and Donnelle Halm and Mark Cummings all of Grand Island, sister and brother-in-law Lynda and Donald Dubas of Doniphan and grandchildren, Justin Bute, Stephanie McMullen, Matthew McMullen, Bridget and her husband Jeff Wright, Carly Cummings, Tracy Cummings, Jeremy Halm and Michele Cummings, and great grandchildren Augustine Martinez, Bryce Wright and Ian Hahn.

His parents and a brother John, Jr. preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.

Viola "Susie" Merten
“Susie” Viola Merten, 90, of Grand Island, died Wednesday April 4, 2007 at Parkwest Plaza Nursing Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Reverend William Pavuk will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Susie was born icon October 16, 1916 at Blue Hill, Nebraska the daughter of John and Ida (Rheingans) Meinte. She was raised and attended school in Blue Hill, graduating from Blue Hill High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to Peter J. Merten on May 16, 1937. They lived in Fairbury until moving to Grand Island in 1941.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Grand Island and the Liederkranz. Susie enjoyed reading, playing bridge, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Her husband Peter J. Merten preceded her in death August 1, 2001.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son and daughter-in-law Robert and Martha Lee Merten of Arnold, California, and three daughters and sons-in-law Judith and James Kraeger of Palatine, Illinois, Pamela and Randall Vang of Wichita, Kansas, Gayle Hahn of Grand Island, Nebraska, grandchildren B. J. Merten, Janet Snow, Jim Merten, Jeff Kraeger, Jenny Kraeger, Scott Vang, Peter Vang, Shawn Vang, Sarah Hartman, Susy Martin, Brian Hahn and Jordan Hahn and 24 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, her parents, six brothers, a grandson Michael Hahn, and a great grandson Joshua Kraeger preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Aubree Daniele Lyn Metteer

Aubree Daniele Lynn Metteer, 3months, of Grand Island, died Tuesday February 13, 2007 at her home.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Rob Inge will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before service time.

Aubree was born icon November 16, 2006 at Grand Island the daughter of Britney Metteer and Jeremy Antillon.

She is survived by her mother and father both of Grand Island, brothers Aden Metteer and Angel Antillon, grandparents; Linda Metteer of Grand Island, Beckie Casillas of Grand Island, and Paul Antillon of Grand Island, great grandparents; Carole and Ralph Horner of Arkansas, Richard and Jeanette Metteer of Lincoln, Edith and Bill Rodenbaugh of Grand Island and Irene Antillon of Grand Island.

Other survivors are numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
