Michael Mielak, 77
ALBION - Michael Richard Mielak, 77, of Albion died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at BryanLGH East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Albion. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery at Columbus, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 84 of Columbus.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Levander Funeral Home.
Mr. Mielak was born
July 11, 1930 at Columbus to Michael F. and Lillian (Krzycki) Mielak.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Mielak.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Velma Mielak; a daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Don Johnson of Albion; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Melody and Jerry Strom of North Liberty, Iowa, and Teresa Anderson of Milwaukee; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Dale R. and Ramona Anderson of Aurora, Colo., and Kirk and Susan Anderson of Davenport, Iowa; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise Wolf and Henrietta and Ray Czapla, all of Columbus.
Deborah Keehn, 52
LAVON, Texas - Deborah Lorraine Keehn, 52, of Lavon, Texas, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, following an unexpected illness at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward. The Rev. Glen Holtz will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Keehn was born
July 27, 1954, at Gastonia, N.C., to James and Jennie (Lockridge) McKeehan.
Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Kent Keehn; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony Ray and Amy Maiers of Dallas, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Lynn and the Rev. Greg Boggs of Mt. Holly, N.C.; a stepson, Patrick Alan Keehn; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Betty McKeehan of Gastonia, N.C., and Larry and Cheryl McKeehan of Maricopa, Ariz.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Starlene and Bud McIntyre of Bessemer City, N.C., Bernie and Steve Gibson of Dallas, N.C., and Cheryl Hullett of Gastonia, N.C.
Hermine 'Mi Mi' Hoffman, 96
FULLERTON - Hermine "Mi Mi" Hoffman, 96, of Fullerton, formerly of Belgrade, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church near Belgrade. The Rev. Robert Mayes will officiate. Burial will be in the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery near Belgrade.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Mrs. Hoffman was born
June 6, 1911, in Nance County to George and Anna (Oldigs) Hellbusch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Hoffman, on June 23, 1990, and by a son, Leonard.
Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Arlis Bown of Nampa, Idaho.
Maybelle Burke, 87
GREELEY - Maybelle Maxine Burke, 87, of Greeley died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Howard County Community Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Greeley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Yvonne Phillips will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Valley View Cemetery at Genoa.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. T.J. Finn and Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burke was born
April 27, 1920, at Genoa to Louis and Marie (Schow) Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeMoine "Bud" Burke, and an infant son, Elmer LeMoine Burke.
Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters, Barbara Martin of Bartlesville, Okla., and Cleta and Leroy Pribnow of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Jeannette Olson of Genoa; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy and Katherine Peterson and Curtis and Anne Peterson, all of Genoa; and a sister-in-law, Pluma Jo Peterson of Genoa.
Additional survivors include three grandchildren, Jeremiah Pribnow and wife, Haley, of Greeley, Rachel Pribnow of Lincoln and Alyce Pribnow of Wayne; two great-grandchildren, Miranda and McKade Pribnow of Greeley; and one expected great-grandchild.
She was raised at Genoa and educated at the area country schools. She graduated from Genoa High School in 1938. She worked at the Grocery Store in Genoa and in 1938 she received a teaching certificate. She taught in rural country schools for eight years.
On May 27, 1951, Maybelle was united in marriage to LeMoine "Bud" Burke at Genoa. The couple spent their entire married lives on the Burkes' home place northeast of Greeley. The couple farmed and were well-known Hereford cattle producers.
Maybelle enjoyed cooking and baking. She belonged to the Ladies Aide and was involved in numerous services to the community of Greeley.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Merle Peterson.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mary Anne Bauer, 63
OMAHA - Mary Anne Bauer, 63, of Omaha died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Revs. Jake Bauer, Don Cleary and Jim Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, with a rosary at 7.
Dolce Scheef Mortuary of Spalding is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Bauer was born
Aug. 4, 1944, at Spalding to Laurence J. and Josephine A. (Glaser) Bauer.
Survivors of the immediate family include her mother; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and Alan Pfeifer of Grand Island, Lucille Bauer of Omaha and Helen and Tom Cleary of Columbus; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Larry and Carol Bauer of Omaha, John and Marcene Bauer of Spalding and Jim Bauer of North Platte.
Additional survivors include 10 nieces and nephews and three great-nieces and nephews.
She attended Spalding Academy and graduated in 1962. She attended the College of St. Mary in Omaha. Mary Anne worked in the banking industry for 30 years, including several years as 2nd Vice-president of Investments. Most recently she was employed in the accounting department of Wilkinson Industries in Fort Calhoun.
Mary Anne was a generous, loving daughter, sister and aunt.
Mary Anne was preceded in death by her father and a nephew, Ethan Jensen.
Gordon Zulkoski, 50
COLUMBUS - Gordon L. Zulkoski, 50, of Columbus died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Joe Miksch officiating.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Zulkoski was cremated. Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Zulkoski was born
on Sept. 6, 1957, at Grand Island to Louis and Nora (Spotanski) Zulkoski.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Brenda Stoffel of Columbus; two sons, Grant Zulkoski of Kearney and Nicholas Zulkoski of Columbus; a daughter, Shilo Zulkoski of Columbus; his mother of Columbus; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Valerian Zulkoski of Columbus and Reginald and Rachelle Zulkoski of Seattle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and John Webster of Wood River and Phyllis and Dick Moritz of Leawood, Kan.
Additional survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Kearney and Ravenna, graduating from Ravenna High School. He lived in Columbus and had worked at various packing plants in Nebraska before retiring due to ill health.
He dearly loved his children and being at home. He enjoyed antique cars, and was a wonderful husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Zulkoski.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Ellen Sorensen, 95
OMAHA - Ellen R. Sorensen, 95, of Omaha, formerly of the Boelus area, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church in Boelus. The Rev. Dale Lambert will officiate. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Boelus.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sorensen was born
Oct. 23, 1912, at Boelus to Julius and Anna (Rohling) Bernhagen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Sorensen Jr., and a daughter, Marlene.
Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Karen Sorensen of Omaha.
Additional survivors include four grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Ellen was raised near Boelus and attended country school north of Boelus. She then attended Boelus High School, where she graduated in 1930. She was united in marriage to George Sorensen Jr. on Jan. 25, 1935, in Cairo. The couple lived on a farm north of Boelus. The couple lived in the Boelus and Howard County area until 1986, when they moved to Omaha to be near their son.
Mr. Sorensen died July 7, 1988. Ellen continued to live in Omaha for the remainder of her life.
Ellen had a great love for music and people. She taught herself how to play the piano. She was the choir director at the Methodist Church in Boelus for many years. She also played at the St. Paul Methodist Church and other functions. She was a member of the Omaha Christian Center.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Bernhagen; and three sisters, Gertrude Sorensen, Lillie Whitefoot and Irene Fabre'.
