Virgil F. Kemper, 85, of 3830 E. Oregon Trail Road, Glenvil, Nebraska, died, Sunday, December 14, 2003 at his home.
Services will be Thursday, December 18, 2003; 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Glenvil, Nebraska with Rev Bonnie & Les Larsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska.
Virgil F. Kemper was born
February 20, 1918 in Adams County, Blaine Township, Nebraska to Henry & Artie (Cornelius) Kemper. He attended school in Glenvil and married Helena F. Hinrichs on September 16, 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Glenvil. He was a life long farmer and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Glenvil. He also was a field man for the ASCS office from 1958 to 1993.
Virgil F. Kemper was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ervin.

Esther May Tupper
Esther May Tupper, 107, of The Homestead, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at The Homestead.
Memorial services will be Monday, December 15, 2003; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. James Cooke officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, prior to memorial service on Monday, December 15, 2003; 12:30 P.M., both in Hastings, Nebraska.
Esther May Tupper was born
on leap year day, February 29, 1896 in Dover, Kansas to William & Mary Edna (Todd) McArthur. She grew up in Topeka, Kansas and graduated from high school and from Washburn College in Topeka, Kansas. On September 6, 1920, she married Frank Tupper and he preceded her in death in 1964. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1950. She was a homemaker and one of the oldest members of First Presbyterian Church. She was also active in Presbyterian Women’s Group, Shrine Auxiliary, Red Cross-Bloodmobile, YWCA, Lochland Country Club, bridge clubs, Salvation Army as a board member and Mary Lanning Pink Ladies.
Esther May Tupper was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, four brothers and one sister.

Jay S. Petersen
Former Hastings resident, Jay S. Petersen, 60, died, Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, Nebraska, following a long illness.
Memorial Mass will be Monday, December 15, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska, with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Private family interment will be at a later date. No viewing as Mr. Petersen was cremated.
Jay S. Petersen was born
June 22, 1943 at Clinton, Iowa to Leo M. & Helen M (Tucker) Petersen. He attended St. Mary’s High School in Clinton and the University of Iowa. He lived in Iowa City, Iowa before moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1988 where he worked at IGA Grocery Store. His hobbies included gardening, history and helping friends in need.
Jay S. Petersen was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.

Services will be Friday, December 12, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Vonda Crowe officiating. Burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery, Campbell, Nebraska.
Paul F. Kimle was born
April 24, 1921 in Campbell, Nebraska to Fred & Mary (Lutkemeier) Kimle. He married Frances D. Koslowski on Jan 20, 1957 in Upland, Nebraska. He was a farmer in the Campbell, Nebraska area, moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1986. He was a former member of the Holstein Methodist Church.

June 26, 1933 in Hastings, Nebraska to Charles & Naomi R. (Collier) Guest. She married Marvin D. Goldenstein on December 10, 1950 in Hastings, Nebraska. She worked at Dutton Lainson and later at the Hastings Regional Center. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and was a life long Hastings resident.
Charleen R. Goldenstein was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard LeRoy Guest.

Mabel L. Blaschke
Mabel L. Blaschke, 96, of Perkins Pavilion, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be Thursday, December 11, 2003; 1:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. James Cooke officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, both in Hastings, Nebraska.
Mabel L. Blaschke was born
June 5, 1907 in Lancaster County, near Hickman, Nebraska to Adrian E. & Wilhelmina (Lefferdink) Van Burg. She graduated from high school and from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln Teacher’s College in Music and Latin in 1929, doing graduate work at Omaha, Columbia and Denver Universities. She taught music in Kenesaw, Nebraska for seven years before moving to Hastings, Nebraska in 1945. On June 5, 1947, she married Karl Blaschke and he preceded her in death on September 24, 1984. She was a music teacher at Hastings Public Schools for 27 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for over 50 years, P.E.O chapter FH, local, state and national Retired Teachers Association, YWCA, Mary Lanning Hospital Auxiliary and the University of Nebraska Alumni Association. She played the piano for Kiwanis from 1965-1995. In 1972, she was presented with a citation from Hastings College for years of professional services to student teachers.

Former Hastings resident, Elsa L. Kroger, 88, of Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center, Albion, Nebraska, died Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center, Albion, Nebraska.
Services will be Wednesday, December 10, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Dan Heuer and Rev. Robert Harms officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, both in Hastings, Nebraska.
Elsa Louise Lydia Kroger, the daughter of Emil C. And Anna (Ziebell) Esslinger was born
March 26, 1915 near Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Arapahoe. Elsa received her education in the Immanuel Lutheran School. On December 10, 1933, she married Henry F. Kroger and he preceded her in death in 1967. The couple farmed in the Arapahoe area until 1946 when they moved to a farm two miles north of Hastings, Nebraska. Elsa continued to live on the farm until 1980 at which time she moved to Goldbeck Towers, Good Samaritan Village, Hastings, Nebraska and resided there until 1998. Elsa was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She was a dedicated wife and mother who loved gardening, sewing and crafts.
Elsa L. Kroger was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry, two brothers, Herbert and Edwin Esslinger.
