Maxwell A. Goble
Maxwell A. Goble, 86, of 2420 W. 12th St. died Saturday, May 3, 2003 at his son’s home.
Rosary will be Tuesday, May 6, 2003; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 7, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Maxwell A. Goble was born
June 3, 1916 in Ayr, Nebraska to Jay & Marguerite (Carroll) Goble. He graduated from Ayr High School in 1935. On May 25, 1938, he married Lucile Buzzard and she preceded him in death on February 28, 1998. He served in the United States Navy from 1936-1940. In 1941, he re-enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii for fifteen months training soldiers for amphibious landings until his transfer to the Philippine Islands. He attained the rank of Lieutenant junior grade and was discharged in 1945. In 1945, they moved to Hastings from California. He was in construction management establishing his own company, Goble & Otto Construction, in 1958. In 1973, he joined Westland Modular Homes, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree, American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans, serving as it’s first commander in 1950-1951. He served on the Adams County Fairboard, raised quarter horses and was a 4-H leader for many years.
Maxwell A. Goble was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lucile and one brother, Gaylord Goble.

Former Fairfield area resident, Carl A. Fitzke, 96, died Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Gateway Manor, Lincoln, Nebraska.
Services will be Thursday, July 3, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil, Nebraska with Pastor Bernie Ward-Crixell. Burial will be in Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska.
Carl A. Fitzke was born
February 12, 1907 in Clay County, near Fairfield, Nebraska, to William & Johanna (Ocker) Fitzke. On October 2, 1931, he married Doris Warren in Belleville, Kansas and she preceded him in death on November 21, 1991. They farmed near Fairfield until his retirement. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil, a life member of Clay County Historical Society, and a past member of the Clay County Garden Club. He moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1996.
Carl A. Fitzke was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Doris (Warren) Fitzke,1 daughter, Jenelle Wicker, 3 brothers and 2 granddaughters.

Hastings resident, Grace I. Burge, 65, of 1203 E. Park St. #1 died, Thursday, June 26, 2003 at Perkins Pavilion.
Services will be Monday, June 30, 2003; 12:00 Noon at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Doug Griger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings, Nebraska.
Grace I. Burge was born
December 22, 1937 in Cowles, Nebraska to Fred & Ruby (Potter) Kudrna. On January 17, 1954, she married Melvin D. Burge and he preceded her in death on March 29, 2000. She was a homemaker, a housekeeper at the Hastings Regional Center and a volunteer at Mary Lanning Auxiliary. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a resident of Hastings, Nebraska for the past 44 years.
Grace I. Burge was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 brother, 1 sister and 3 grandchildren.

Hilda C. Himmelberg was born
March 15, 1910 in rural Nuckolls County, near Lawrence, Nebraska to John & Clara (Dall) Kitten. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1928 and married George Himmelberg on April 5, 1932 in Lawrence, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was a past member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and Senior Citizen’s Group, both of Nelson, Nebraska.

James N. Gleason was born
July 25, 1930 in Guide Rock, Nebraska to Clifford and Cleone (Sabin) Gleason. He graduated from Hardy High School, Hardy, Nebraska in 1948. On May 21, 1955, he married Charleen Himmelberg. He served in the United States Army from June 13, 1951 through April 30, 1953, serving in the Korean Conflict and later in the United States Army Reserves. He was the manager of the Adams County Fairgrounds, and was production manager of Hastings Industries. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Men’s Club, Honorary Member 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and American Legion.
James N. Gleason was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Ron Gleason.

Jean L. Ross was born
September 30, 1933 in Hansen, Nebraska to Joseph Leo & Mary May (North) Pigeon. She graduated from St. Cecilia’s Catholic High School and attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. On August 20, 1955, she married Ronald Ross. She was a bank teller at City National Bank for many years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She was life long area resident.
Jean L. Ross was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Julie Beth Ross.

Former Hastings resident, Mary Marie Persinger, 89, of Hurricane, Utah, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 in Harbor, Washington on San Juan Island.
Services will be Thursday, June 12, 2003; 1:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Juniata Cemetery, Juniata, Nebraska.
Mary Marie Persinger was born
April 16, 1914 in Republic County, near Lovewell, Kansas to Earl & Effie (Osborne) Imler. On March 19, 1930, she married Alva Persinger in Belleville, Kansas and he preceded her in death on December 9, 1989. They lived in Republic County, Kansas until 1946 when they moved to Juniata, Nebraska. They resided there for nearly 40 years before moving to Hastings, Nebraska. After Alva passed away, Marie continued living in their home until March of 2001. She then moved to Roche Harbor, Washington on San Juan Island to live with her daughter, Darlene and son-in-law, Richard. The final 5 months of her life, she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin & Jeanette Persinger. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Juniata.
Mary Marie Persinger was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, husband, Alva, son, Eugene and 1 grandchild.
