Services will be Saturday, May 26, 2001; 10:00 A.M. Juniata United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dean Joy officiating. Burial will be in Juniata Cemetery, Juniata, Nebraska.
Walter Frerichs was born
May 23, 1923 in Adams County, Nebraska to John & Lizzie (Hinrikus) Frerichs. He graduated from Juniata High School in 1941 and married Ray Celia Overfield on April 6, 1944. He was a retired farmer, life long Juniata area resident and a member of Juniata United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Juniata School Board, Rural Fire Board and the Knights of Pythias.
Walter Frerichs was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Marie, Edna and Lillian and 3 brothers, George, Dale and Bob.

Paul Joseph Peter O'Callaghan, Sr.,74, of 310 W. 7th, died May 17, 2001 at his home with family present after a long battle with heart disease.
Memorial services will be Saturday, May 19, 2001; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. His body was donated to Medical Science. Private family interment at a later date.
Paul Joseph Peter O'Callaghan was born
March 29, 1927 in Columbus, Nebraska to William & Cecilia (Eller) O'Callaghan. After graduating from Humphrey St. Francis Catholic School,he served in the United States Navy during WWII from May 24, 1945 until July 2, 1946. He married Faith Irene Johnson on October 26, 1945. He was maintenance engineer for Hastings Catholic Schools for many years. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a resident of Hastings, Nebraska for the last 35 years.

Private family services will be Monday, May 21, 2001 at Butler-Volland Chapel with Dr. Carl W. Utley officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

September 10, 1917 in Breda, Iowa to Rev. Christian & Louise (Fricke) Walter. She married Kenneth L. Meyer on June 19, 1939 in Breda, Iowa.

Merle H. McLain, 83, of Perkins Pavilion, died Friday, May 11, 2001 at Perkins Pavilion.

Merle H. McLain was born
December 6, 1917 in Clay County, Nebraska to Harve & Linnie (McGuire) Van Arsdale. She graduated from Inland High School and attended Hastings Beauty Academy. She worked for Hefnider Beauty Shop before moving to California. She did office work and then was an underwriter for Continental Insurance for 25 years. She married Arvil McLain in 1964 and he preceded her in death in 1982. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1998.

Kenneth L. Engelhardt
Kenneth L. Engelhardt, 76, of Giltner, Nebraska, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 in Connell, Washington.
Services will be Thursday, May 17, 2001; 10:30 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Nora Leeds officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Kenneth L. Engelhardt was born
May 17, 1924 in Deweese, Nebraska to Leon Christopher & Ethel Adeline (Clifton) Engelhardt. He attended Hastings High School and served in the United States Army during WWII from February 4, 1943 until June 9, 1945, at which time he was wounded in action. On September 12, 1948, he married Shirley Rankin and they later divorced. He retired as the grounds superintendent from the Hastings Regional Center on March 28, 1986 after 39 years. He resided in Giltner, Nebraska the last 15 years.
Kenneth L. Engelhardt was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leland Engelhardt and sisters, Althea Bland, Arlene Hoffman and Bernice Tobias.

LeRoy Mitchel Huston, 84, of 716 Circle B, Hastings, Nebraska, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at Nebraska Veterans Home, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Services will be Saturday, May 12, 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Steve Hodgsen officiating. Burial with military rites will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Bladen, Nebraska.
LeRoy Mitchel Huston was born
November 19, 1916 in Brandon, Colorado to David & Myrtle (McPherson) Huston. He attended Brandon High School, graduating in 1935. He was an air craft mechanic in the United States Air Force from November 17, 1939 until his retirement on November 30, 1959. His first service was with the Fourth Reconnaissance Squadron, Hicken Field, Hawaii. In September 1941,Sergeant Huston was transferred to Clark Field, Philippines Islands. At the time of Pearl Harbor Attack, December 7, 1941, he and others were air-lifted to Australia, where he served with the famed 19th Bombardment Group, as flight chief during its campaign in the Philippines, Australia and Java. LeRoy was stationed at Harvard Air Force Base, Nebraska in 1943 and 1944 working on the B29 Bombers. On September 16, 1944, he married Erma Meyer of Bladen, Nebraska in Hastings, Nebraska. He was assigned to Lowery A.F.B in Colorado in 1946. In 1950, he was assigned to the 394th Group Carrier Wing in Japan as an air-craft inspector, making trips to Korea for the next two years during the Korean War. After returning to the states, he held several positions at Hill Air Force Base, Utah and Lowery Air Base, Colorado, before being assigned to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada until his 20 retirement in November of 1959. Some of Sgt Huston's awards and decorations include, American Defense Service Medal with Foreign Service Clasp; American Campaign Medal; Asian Pacific Campaign Medal with one Silver Service Star; WWII Victory Medal, Bronze Service Stars, Korean Service Medal with one Silver and two Bronze Stars; Air Force Longevity Service Awards with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Philippine Defense Service Ribbon From Philippine Independence Ribbons and Distinguished Unit Citation with Six Oak Leaf Clusters. After his military retirement, LeRoy and Erma and Children Janice & James lived in Red Cloud and Minden, where he worked as an auto mechanic for Baur Motors for 15 years prior to his civil retirement. They moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1985. He was a member of Berean Church, V.F.W., American Legion Post #0011, TREA-The Retired Enlisted Association, NAUA-National Services of Uniformed Services, 19th Bombardment Association and the Kyusher Gypsy his squadron in Korean).
