Roland D. "Buddy" Sloop
Age 79, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.
Buddy was born
on April 18, 1932 in Hamburg, IA; the son of Paul V. and Lucina E. (McNutt) Sloop. He attended school in Hamburg and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1950. He then entered the United States Army on October 13, 1952 and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged on October 12, 1954.
He was united in marriage to Patricia L. Gray in 1954 in Hamburg, IA.
He worked at American Meter in Nebraska City for some 30 years. He had also worked at the Skelly Station in Hamburg as well as other various places.. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
He is survived by his two daughters: Janet Zanker and significant other Mark Lagrimini of Lincoln, NE; Teresa Spidell and husband David of Nebraska City, NE; 2 grandchildren: Matthew Zanker and Thomas Spidell and wife Amber; a great-child Lucas Spidell; three brothers: Robert Sloop and Larry Sloop both of Hamburg, IA and Keith Sloop of Sidney, IA and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Clinton who passed away in 2005.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Hamburg, IA with complete Military Services conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post #156.
The casket will remain closed, however friends may sign the book at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Rescue.
Margaret L. Clutter
Age 77, of Omaha, NE (formerly Nebr. City and Lincoln) passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011 in Omaha, NE.
Margaret Louise (Murphy) Clutterwas born
on October 9, 1933 in Gentry, MO; the daughter of James O. and Allie E. (Walker) Murphy. She was united in marriage to James Marlin Clutter on February 16, 1958 in Gentry, MO.
She worked as an Abstracter for Wellensiek Law Firm and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nebr. City.
She is survived by her husband James M. Clutter of Omaha; daughters: Janet Trevino of Omaha, NE and Kathryn Boone of Lincoln, NE; grandsons: Tony Trevino and wife Carol, Peter Brown and wife Kim, Geoffrey Brown and fianci Abby Gaunnell, and Brian Boone; eight great-grandchildren: Katie, Nikki, Cori and Alex Trevino; Brielle, Brett, Brooke and Broden Brown; other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son James Marlin Clutter II; son in law Robert Trevino; a sister Twilla Murphy Lewis; an infant sister Madelyn Murphy; brother James Robert Murphy.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Nebr. City with Rev. Keith Hunt officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, MO.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday (8/12) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.

Harold G. Gilbert
Age 86, of Punta Gorda, FL (formerly Hamburg, IA and Lincoln, NE) passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Life Care Center in Punta Gorda, FL.
Harold was born
on February 24, 1925 in Hamburg, IA; the son of William Baxter and Dosha Octavia (Luna) Gilbert. He graduated from Hamburg High School with the Class of 1942. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Anne Peck Bright on November 29, 1968 in Lincoln, NE.
Harold worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Lincoln, NE until his retirement in 1990. Harold's hobbies included woodworking, pitching horse shoes and he loved camping. Harold and Dorothy spent his last years enjoying the Florida sunshine.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Gilbert of Punta Gorda, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Wayne and Ernie and 1 sister: Evelyn at infancy.
Private family services will be held.

Frank C. Hagar
Age 93, of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebr. City.
Frank was born
on June 15, 1918 in Bolivar, MO; the son of Eustace and Gussie (Ray) Hagar. He was united in marriage to Luella E. Hull on October 1, 1960 in Riverton, IA.
During the WWII years, Frank worked at the Bomber Plant as a crew chief and then as a mechanic for Pearsall Taxi. He later owned and operated his own garage called Hagar's, which later became H & R Radiator. He continued its operation until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nebraska City.
He is survived by his daughter Lynda Schweitzer and husband Rudy of Nebraska City, NE and nephew David Hagar and wife Mary Jean of Howard Lake, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Luella Hagar on April 22, 1995; three sisters and one brother.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Keith Hunt officiating; burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
Visitation will be open to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Nebraska City.

Dallas W. Adkins, Jr.
Age 62 of Nebraska City passed away on Sunday; July 24, 2011 at his home.
He was born
on October 14, 1948 at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Dallas W. Adkins, Sr. and Sylvia May (Perkins) Adkins. He attended school in Nebraska City and graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the class of 1968.
Dallas enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 28, 1968. He served his country until his honorable discharge on August 25, 1972.
On May 28, 1972, he was united in marriage to Betty Joe Hughes at Monticello, MS; and to this union two daughters were born: Erin and Leah. Dallas worked at American Meter and owned and operated Adkins Kerr-McGee in Nebr. City. He also worked at Mead Lumber and at the Lied Center. He was a member of Eagle Aerie #968 in Nebr. City, was a sponsor and bowler in the Men‘s Bowling Assn., member of the River City Car Classics Club, Otoe County Wildlife Club, and American Legion Post #8. He was a Jaycee Baseball Coach, played and was very active in the Nebr. City Men‘s Softball Assn, was a founding member of the SEGAS Softball League and was an avid archer,
He is survived by his wife Betty Joe Adkins of Nebr. City; two daughters: Leah Smallfoot and husband Kyle of Elkhorn, NE and Erin Johnson and husband Chip of Nebr. City; five grandchildren: Kylee, Bopper and Kody Smallfoot; Brianna and Makenzie Johnson; his mother Sylvia Adkins of Nebr. City; father Dallas Adkins, Sr. of Brock, NE; othe r family and many friends.
Funeral Services for Dallas Adkins, Jr. will be held Saturday (July 30) at 10:30 a.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Rev. Jerry Albright officiating; burial will follow in the Wyuka Cemetery with military services conducted by the Offut Air Force Base Honor Guard.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Gude Mortuary.

William R. "Bill" Schreiter
Age 75, of rural Nebr. City passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at his home.
William was born
on February 12, 1936 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Ralph N. and Lenora M. (Reese) Schreiter. Bill served in the Army National Guard for 6 years, from 1950 to 1956.
He was united in marriage to Colleen M. Fitzekam on September 27, 1955 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Nebr. City, NE and to this union three children were born: Kurt, Mary and David.
Bill spent his life farming and was always very active in his church and the community. He was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church,where he served in various capacities including as a lector and an usher. He was the secretary/treasurer for the rural Nebr. City School District. He served on the Lourdes School Board and the Rural Fire Department. He was a member of the Eagles and a former member of the Nebraska City Elks.
He is survived by his wife Colleen Schreiter of rural Nebr. City; children Kurt Schreiter and wife Jean of Dunbar, NE; Mary McCoy and husband Gerald of Lincoln, NE and David Schreiter and wife Natalie of Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a sister Marlene Fey and husband Wilber of Nebr. City; other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Mark Cyza officiating. Burial will follow at St. Benedict's Cemetery in Nebr. City.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening (7/22) at St. Benedict's Catholic Church followed by the family receiving friends.

Dr. William A. Chantry
Age 86, of Kinston, NC died suddenly Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital with his loving family around him.
He was born
on September 21, 1924 in Corning, Iowa and grew up in Marengo, Iowa. The son of a Depression era county engineer, he learned from an early age the importance of community, friends and family. His favorite place was sitting on his back porch enjoying the "Chantry forest", watching the antics of the birds, squirrels and rabbits.
He was an active member of the Democratic Party through out his 50 years in Kinston, an ardent supporter historical preservation and education, a charter member of The Friends of Colonial Williamsburg and Tryon Palace, member of the Raleigh Tavern Society of Colonial Williamsburg, the Smithsonian Institute Society, the Neue Gallery Friends of New York City, and the Royal Oak Society of Great Britain in addition to being a dedicated fan of the Kinston Indians. Dr. Chantry traveled world wide researching family ancestry, visiting new places and enjoying New Years in Vienna, Austria.
At 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in World War II, landing at Omaha Beach after D-Day. He was awarded the Purple Heart, a Bronze and a Silver Star for his efforts. During the military, he started his college education at the University of Lafayette and completed his Bachelor's and Master Degree's from the University of Iowa and PHD from Cornell University. He continued his education all his life by teaching chemistry at local community colleges, including Lenoir Community College, and taking courses. His career as a chemical engineer included positions with Sherwin Williams in Chicago, Shell Oil in San Francisco and Houston, and finally for over 30 years with E.I. DuPont as a Senior Development Fellow. He served on the Board of the International Textile Society based in Manchester England for which he was awarded a medal of honor by the Princess Royal of Great Britain. Dr. Chantry enjoyed his volunteer time with the Lenoir Historical Society, Kinston Arts Council and the Kinston Welcome Center.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother-in-law and a devoted friend who will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. Dr. Chantry was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Lorenz Chantry; parents, William Kline and Jessie McKee Chantry; daughter-in-law, Christine K. Chantry and grandson-in-law, Bobby McPherson.
His survivors include daughter, Mrs. Patricia C. Melvin and husband Bob, Greensboro, NC; son, Dr. William A. Chantry, Jr., Reston, VA; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Chantry, Kinston & Laurel, MD; his treasured grandchildren: Laura M. McPherson, Ivory and Dean McPherson, Liberty, NC; Lee A. Martin, Lane A. Martin, Greensboro; Heidi N. Chantry, Reston, and William K. Chantry, Charlottesville, VA; and special in-laws, Mrs. Karen L. Stanley (John), Kansas City, Mrs. Sharon L. Heller (Joseph), Tampa, Mr. Harold R. Lorenz (Mary Ann), Manchester, Iowa, and loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA. Burial will follow at the Hamburg Cemetery in Hamburg, IA with military services conducted by the Hamburg American Legion.
Bernice Davison
Age 86, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City, NE.
Bernice was born
on December 9, 1924 in Council Bluffs, IA; the daughter of Andrew C. and Sylvia J. (Harrington) Anderson. She grew up in Plattsmouth, NE and graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the Class of 1943. She was united in marriage to Lester "Bud" Davison on August 8, 1944 in Glenwood, IA.
Bernice was a waitress for over 40 years at the Elks Club, Ulbrick's and the Nebr. City Legion Club. She also worked as clerk for Health and Human Services and was a cashier at the Wednesday night dinners at the First United Methodist Church. She was a great cook and her specialty was ham. "She made the best ham ever." She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, but most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Julie Hafner; Lisa Kreifels and significant other Gary Bassinger; Lori Lewis and husband Simon all of Nebr. City, NE; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandsons; son-in-law Jim Cass of Lincoln, NE; daughters-in-law Paula Davison of Plattsmouth, NE and Lana Erikson of Loveland, CO; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by 5 children: Cheryl (Davison) Cass; David Davison, Michael Davison and infant sons Lester and John; infant grand-daughter Melissa; 2 brothers: John Anderson and Duward (Deke) Anderson and former husband Lester "Bud" Davison.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Nebr. City with Rev. Jeff Kelley officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

Patricia G. Winans-Ireland
Patricia G. Winans-Ireland, of Rock Port, MO passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. She was a former resident of the Percival, IA community.
Patricia was born
at McPaul, IA; the daughter of Frank R. and Lois L. (Cain) French. She graduated from Thurman High School in Thurman, IA with the class of 1946. She was married to William R. Winans in 1948 in Percival, IA and to this union a daughter Vicky was born. After Bill's death, she later married Donald P. Ireland in 1986 in Las Vegas, NV.
Pat and her husband Don owned and operated Midland Insurance, Inc. in Rock Port, MO. She was a loving wife and mother. She was a active member of Grace Community Church in Rock Port, MO where she was very involved with the music.
She is survived by her husband, Don Ireland of Rock Port, MO; children Vicki Kawakami and husband Ben of Plano, TX; step-sons: Vincent Ireland of Nebr. City, NE; Logan Ireland and wife Pam of Omaha, NE and Barry Ireland and wife Gemalyn of Reno, NV; 6 step grandchildren and 1 step great-grandchild and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William in 1984; her parents and a brother Donald French on July 2, 2011.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Grace Community Church in Rock Port, MO with Rev. Cornelius Schelling officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the McFall Cemetery in McFall, MO.
