Louis Maca, age 64, of Columbus died Tuesday November 6, 2001 in Pacific Junction, Iowa. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Friday; November 9, 2001 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, Nebraska. The Rev. Christopher Grimmond will officiate. Burial will be in the All Saints Cemetery located in Columbus, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday 3-5 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home and after 6: 00 p.m. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church. A Vigil will be held at 7: 00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Church. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 8-10 a.m. at the McKown Funeral Home.
Louis F. Maca was born March 3, 1937 in Columbus, Nebraska to Louis and Tillie (Svoboda) Maca. On February 21, 1955 he married Irene Hughes at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Imogene, Iowa. He was an independent truck driver and has lived in Columbus since 1973. Louis was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Eagles Club, and the N.R.A.

Lyle Soden
Lyle Soden, 72, of Columbus died Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at his home in Columbus. Services are 10: 30 am on Saturday, November 24 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. The family will receive friends 9: 30 am until service time Saturday at the Church.
Lyle L. Soden was born December 19, 1928 in Wisner, Nebraska to Malcolm and Alice (Milligan) Soden. He graduated from Wisner High School in 1948. Lyle served in the United States Navy from May 30, 1946 until March 30, 1948. He married Velma Smith on April 8, 1951. Lyle worked over 30 years as an insurance salesman. He married Vicki Hash on May 21, 1971 in Columbus, Nebraska. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Lyle was an avid woodworker.
Lyle is survived by his wife Vicki of Columbus, two daughters; Gina (Dave) Czapla of Columbus, Michelle (Russell) Sims of Columbus, a son, James C. (Kim) Soden of Kearney, a step-daughter Wendy (Dave) Ohnoutka of Lincoln, one sister, Wauneta (Walt) Schmidt of Lincoln, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Lyle is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
Malinda Sue Tucker
Malinda Sue (Frewing) Tucker, age 34, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday November 14, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral services are 2: 00 pm on Monday at the Bible Baptist Church in Columbus with the Reverend Frank Koch officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-7 pm and on Monday from 8-12 noon at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 1 pm until service time at the Bible Baptist Church. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Tucker was born June 9, 1967, in Columbus to Arthur and Ann (Crunk) Frewing. She was their third child.
She attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Columbus High School in 1985. She began working at NPPD during her senior year and worked there about two years. She married Tim Tucker, of Columbus, on June 8, 1986 at the Bible Baptist Church. They have eight children.
She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for three years. She played the viola and sang for church. She made beautiful plaques for anyone sick or who had lost a loved one. She was a devoted mother and always found time to help others. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Tucker; eight children, Jeremy, 14, Richard, 9, Roy, 5, Daniel John, newborn, Joanna, 13, Dorothy, 11, Melody, 4, Laura, 1 1/2; her parents of Bellwood; three brothers, Arthur Jr. and Stanley both of Columbus and Albert of Norfolk; two sisters, MaryAnn (Mrs. Ricky) Anderson and Margaret (Mrs. Robert) Walker both of Columbus.
Patrick Martin
Patrick Martin, 94 of Columbus, formerly of Gothenburg, died Saturday November 24 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus. Funeral services are 10: 30 am on Wednesday at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Visitation will begin on Tuesday after 4 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a Vigil service at 7: 30 pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at St. Isidore Church from 9: 30 am until service time. Burial will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.
Patrick E. Martin was born January 16, 1907 in Belgrade, NE to John Edward & Catherine (Walsh) Martin. He married Ida Jane Jeannette Crockett on September 18, 1933 in St. Paul, NE. He worked on Kingsley Dam while living in Sutherland before moving to Gothenburg where he worked on the Tri-County Canal as a mechanic on the huge Monighan drag line. He later worked for the Hailey Chevrolet dealership in Gothenburg for many years as the shop foreman. He served as a policeman in Gothenburg before working many years at Monroe Auto Equipment Co. in Cozad until his retirement. He was a very active and enthusiastic trap shooter, winning over 90 trophies. He was a registered gunsmith and restored guns for many years. He was a member of the Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Gothenburg and St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Memorials are directed to the donors choice.

Denny was born October 9, 1943 in Shelby, Nebraska to Gerald & Lucille (Heins) Wallace. In 1961 he graduated from Rising City High School. He moved to Columbus at this time where he has lived since. He operated the Champlin Station in Columbus with his father until the mid 70's. He then owned and operaated Wallace Oil Company until 1985. He later established C-L Express Company which he currently was operating. For the past three years he has worked at Country Shadows Golf Course. He enjoyed cards, football, gardening and woodworking. He had served in the National Guard and was a member of the American Veterans and the Elks.

Ferd Edward Liebig, 90, of Platte Center died Monday February 4, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10: 30 am on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with the Rev. Rod Kneifl officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home and after 6 pm at St. Joseph Church with a Vigil service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9: 30 am until service time at the church. Burial will be in Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery.
Ferd Edward Liebig was born September 22, 1911 in Platte County to Adolph & Mary (Schumacher) Liebig. He was raised in Platte Center where he attended St. Joseph School. He married Germaine Bender on January 10, 1940 at St. Francis Church in Humphrey. He was a farmer, self-employed truck driver, and worked side by side with his brother at Liebig Meat Processing He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Platte Center, 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Columbus. He served as trustee on the St. Joseph School Board, District 4 school board, was a member of the Elks Club, and the Lions Club in Platte Center and Monroe. He was a lifelong Democrat, enjoyed playing cards, the race track and going to the casinos. He was a past member of the Silver Spur Saddle Club and enjoyed riding, breaking, and training horses. He lived life to the fullest and found strength in his faith, family, and friends.

Frederick W. Gerber, Jr.
Frederick W. Gerber, Jr., 80, of Columbus died Sunday January 27, 2002 at Columbus Community Hospital. Services are 10: 30 a.m. Thursday; January 31, 2002 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. The Reverend Tom Weisbecker officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home and after 6: 30 p.m. at the church. A vigil service will be held at 7: 30 p.m. Wednesday also at the church. Frederick W. Gerber, Jr. was born December 6, 1921 in Columbus, Nebraska to Frederick W. and Frances (Schilz) Gerber. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1939 where he graduated from the Army Air Corp Flight School. On September 27, 1947 He was united in marriage to Virginia Warholoski at Randolph Air Force Chapel in San Antonio, Texas. While in the service Mr. Gerber was a pilot instructor & served on the Cadet Selection Team, Communication WACS, & was a Command Pilot Air-Sea Rescue in Newfoundland being stationed at several bases around the United States. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1961 earning the rank of Major. Following his retirement from service the couple lived in Columbus where he was a personnel director for Becton-Dickinson from 1961 - 1971 & also worked for Behlen Manufacturing. Mr. Gerber served as Mayor of Columbus from 1972 - 1976 and served on the Airport Authority Board. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus #938, Hartman Post #84 American Legion, V.F.W. #3704, Governor's Commission for Affirmative Action, Fifth District Court Judge Appointment Committee.

Margaret Ellen Smets was born August 18, 1941 in Hastings, Nebraska to Frank & Verna (Daily) Hulme. On July 11, 1960 she married Thomas D. Smets in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She moved to the Columbus area in 1975. She was a homemaker. She was a past member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Circle Squares Square Dance Club.

Raymond L. Paczosa, age 78, of Silver Creek, Nebraska died Sunday; February 10, 2002 at his home in rural Silver Creek, Nebraska. Funeral services are 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Dave Korth and Rev. John Starostka will officiate. Raymond L. Paczosa was born October 17, 1923 in Duncan, Nebraska to Louis and Kathryn (Tragarz) Paczosa. He received his elementary education at St. Stanislaus Parochiol School and graduated from Duncan High School in 1941. Ray served in the United States Army during WWII with the 36th Combat Engineers. He served in the African and European Theatres. He was involved in several beach landings involving the Higgins Boat. On June 1, 1949 Ray married Virginia Starostka at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek, Nebraska. They farmed in the Silver Creek area. He was a member of the American Legion Post #263 in Silver Creek. He was an active member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek.
