Russell Eugene Gann, 46, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of York, bench mechanic for Boeing Wichita, died Monday, March 10, 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Candi; son, Derek of Wichita; parents, Gilbert and Judi Gann of Wichita, Bob and Marilyn Drewry of Rogers, Ark.; brothers, Steve Gann of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Rick Gann of Wichita, Gene Drewry of Kansas City, Mo., Rob Drewry of Battle Creek, Mich., Larry Drewry of Redondo Beach, Calif., Jay Larson of Bradshaw, Neb.; sisters, Tammy Guavion of Cassville, Mo., Tammy Valentine of Denver, Colo., Geri Doane of Rogers, Ark., Jimmie Jo Larson of Bradshaw.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita, Kan.
Agnes T. Clark
York resident, 83
Agnes T. Clark, 83, of York, formerly of Fremont, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in York.
She was born July 3, 1919, near St. Edward to James and Mary (Kealy) Cahill. She graduated from St. Ursula's High School in York. Agnes married
Lyle F. Clark on April 22, 1942, in Lincoln.
In Fremont, she worked as a business assistant, secretary and receptionist for several medical and dental offices. Agnes and Lyle moved to York in 1996. She was a former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont and a current member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle of York; daughter, Kathleen (Joe Bill) Knous of Story City, Iowa; sons, James (Linda) Clark of Fishtail, Mont., and Robert (Laurie) Clark of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her death were her parents; a son, Thomas; brothers, Paul, Leo, Daniel and John Cahill; sisters, Sr. Ursula Cahill, Ellen Cahill and Cecila Thomazin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, at Metz Chapel in York. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., Sunday, at Metz Mortuary in York, which is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

Warren W. "Red" Dunham, 76, of York died Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 2003, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln. Funeral arrangements were pending at presstime. A complete obituary notice will appear in a future edition. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of arrangements.

Max G. Miller, 56, of York died Wednesday in York. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary.
Annette Sward
California resident, 58
Annette Marie Sward, 58, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, in Citrus Heights, Calif. She was a resident of Folsom, Calif.
She was born to Reuel C. E. and Ruth M. Sward on Oct. 25, 1944, in Omaha. Annette was raised in Stromsburg, attended Stromsburg schools and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1963. She then entered nurses training in Omaha at Immanuel School of Nursing. She graduated from Immanuel in 1966 and began her nursing career at Immanuel Hospital before moving to California in 1967.
While in California, Annette worked in surgery and as head nurse of the ER in the Monterey Community Hospital. During this time, she was also active in the American Heart Association and an instructor of EMTs in the Monterey Bay area. Before her illness, she was a case manager utilization review nurse for the Med Clinic Medical Group of Sacramento.
Annette loved the ocean, music, her Maltese dogs and manning the first aid station at golf tournaments.
She is survived by her mother Ruth Sward of York; brother Carl Sward of York; sisters Miriam Sward of Omaha and Elaine (Steve) Spady of York; niece Stephanie Spady of New York, N.Y.; nephew, Andrew Spady of Lincoln and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her father Reuel Sward and special friend Jim Bliss.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg with Pastor Keith Brozek officiating. Interment will be in the Swede Home cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Wegener's Granulomatosis Association.
Warren 'Red' Dunham
York resident, 76
Warren W. "Red" Dunham, age 76 years, of York, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 2003, at Bryan-LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln due to complications from pneumonia.
Warren was born on July 30, 1926, at Aurora to Orville and Hannah (White) Dunham. He met his wife of 54 years while working as a "catskinner" for Hamilton County, grading a country road by the farmhouse of Beverly Reed. The couple was united in marriage on January 24, 1949, at York.
Warren worked for Gallant Plumbing & Heating in York for five years, and retired after 35 years as a sheet-metal fabricator for York Foundry & Engine Works (which later became Blount Industries MFS). Warren served as a medic in the US Army during World War II in the European Theater, and was present at the scene of Patton swimming the Rhine River. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in York.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly J. Dunham of York; seven children: Dudley (and his wife, Yvonne) Dunham of Chicago, Ill., Holly Kelly of Crete, Steve (and his wife, Pearl) Dunham of Fairmont, Diane (and her husband, Pat) Budler of Kearney, Janet (and her husband, Freddie) Collins of Norton, Va., Jeff (and his wife, Andrea) Dunham of Polk, and Mark Dunham of York; twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Basil Dunham, and one sister, Ramona (and her husband, Wilbur) Roberts, all of Grand Island. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, his brother (Russell Dunham) and three sisters (Henrieta Greer, June O'Brien, and Bethel O'Brien).
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Rev. Ralph H. Ford officiating. Interment will be in the Hampton cemetery at Hampton with military graveside honors conducted by Bolton American Legion Post #19 of York. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday at the Lewis Funeral Chapel in York. Memorials may be made in care of the family. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of arrangements.
Max G. Miller
York resident, 56
Max G. Miller, 56, of York died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in York. He was a truck driver for Sunflower Carriers for over 10 years. Max was born April 13, 1946, in Strong City, Kan., to Milton M. and Lou Ella (Bohl) Miller. He was married
to Mary Jo Blair at Las Vegas, Nev., on Jan. 8, 1993. Max enjoyed football and NASCAR racing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, of York; three sons, Mike Miller and his fianc�e Marlene Wolf of Lyons, Kan., J. J. and his wife Charlotte Miller of Wichita, Kan., and Roger and his wife Sarah Miller of Wichita, Kan.; stepchildren, Angela and her husband Steve Schmidt of York and Misty-Skye and her husband Clinton Batmon of Wichita, Kan., John and his wife Christie Carley of York, and James and his wife Meleasa Carley of Moore, Okla.; also surviving are nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Ralph Ford. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery at York. Visitation will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Metz Mortuary in York is in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd Widga
Polk resident, 92
Lloyd Edward Widga, 92, of Polk, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at York General Hospital.
Lloyd was born on Feb. 20, 1911, on the Widga home place northeast of Polk. He attended District 44 School in Polk County and graduated from Polk High School in 1928. Llody E. Widga and Helga M. Johnson were united in marriage on Feb. 22, 1934 in Polk. They lived the early years of their marriage near Stromsburg, and in 1942, they returned to the Polk area to farm the home place. He was involved in the farming operation until his death. Helga died on Sept. 10, 1987.
Lloyd was a member of the Swede Plain United Methodist Church until it closed. He had served on the church board and was on the Swede Plain cemetery Association until recently. Lloyd transferred his membership and attended the United Methodist Church in Polk when Swede Plain closed. Lloyd took up golfing in his 70s, and his love for the game continued until his death. He enjoyed all sports and regularly attended University of Nebraska football and basketball games. Lloyd had attended every alumni banquet since his graduation from Polk High School.
Lloyd is survived by three sons -- Verland of Stromsburg, Don of Polk and Dennis and Judy of Torrington, Wyo.; two brothers -- Lester and Anna Marie Widga of Stromsburg and Leland and Agnes Widga of Edina, Minn.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, Edward and Lillie (Donelson) Widga; a great-grandson, Brandon Widga; a daughter-in-law, Janice Widga; and one brother, Lyle Widga.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Polk with Rev. Anderson W. Kwankin officiating. Burial will be in the Swede Plain cemetery near Polk. Visitation is Thursday, April 17, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.
Clifford H. Dittmar
Utica resident, 78
Clifford H. Dittmar, 78, of Utica, died Thursday, April 3, in Utica.
He was born May 9, 1924, near Milford. He was a retired farmer who lived in the Utica area.
He married
Patsy Kutscher on Jan. 27, 1984, at Ceresco.
He is survived by his wife; sons and their wives, Gary and Betty Dittmar of Utica, Douglas and Elaine Dittmar of Utica and Mark and Helen Dittmar of Utica; daughters and their husbands, Lyn and Jerry Hemphill of Utica, Lorna and Tom Tomlinson of Buffalo, Mo., Sheila and Dennis Tracy of Grangeville, Idaho; stepdaughters and their husbands, Jill Littleton of Lincoln and Doris and Rod Jorgensen of Tucson, Ariz.; stepsons and their wives, John and Lori Butcher of Fairbury, Michael and Tiffany Butcher of Lincoln; sister and her husband, Lorene and Bertrum Barnes of Utica; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilfred Butzke of Gresham, Donald and Janice Butzke of Utica, Justine Luecke of Florida, Ronald and Elizabeth Kutscher of Vienna, Va., Kenneth and Jeanne Kutscher of Hebron; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Selmar and Frieda (Haase) Dittmar, and his wife, Leora (Butzke) Dittmar.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 7, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Utica. Rev. Robert Gadeken will officiate. Burial will be at the Immanuel cemetery in Utica.

Helen E. Gjerloff
Grand Island resident, 87
Helen E. Gjerloff, 87, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Tiffany Square Care Center of Grand Island.
She was born on Jan. 28, 1916, to Harry and LaVerne (Coleman) Cain at York. She grew up in York and graduated from York High School.
She was married
to Christian Gjerloff on May 24, 1936. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1940 where they have remained.
She attended Trinity United Methodist Church where she volunteered her time helping in the office. She was past Queen-Nemaha Temple 108 Daughters of the Nile, Past Matron of Andrew Chapter 41 Order of Eastern Star, member of the Knights Templar Ladies Club, Shrine Auxiliary, Grand Island Women's Club, and the Liederkranz Ladies Club. The couple enjoyed traveling together in their retirement years.
Survivors include her husband, Chris Gjerloff of Grand Island; daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" (Gary) Unterseher of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Christy (Richard) Chartier of Lincoln; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. George Wheat officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Gjerloff was cremated. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Janet Kaliff
York resident, 73
Janet A. Kaliff, 73, of York died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Fairmont.
She was born Feb. 24, 1930, at Gresham to Elmer and Bay (Hattel) Doan. After receiving her teaching degree from Concordia College, Janet taught in rural schools for four years.
She was married
to Charles Kaliff in Gresham on June 8, 1952, and they have lived and farmed near York their entire married
lives. Janet was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of McCool, York Mother Singers, McCool Garden Club and the McCool Community Birthday Club. Janet enjoyed collecting teddy bears, growing cactus, gardening and spending time with her family. She was also very involved in her family's farming operation.
She is survived by her husband Charles of York; three sons, John and his wife ReNee Kaliff, Kim and his wife Danielle Kaliff, and Mark and his wife Valerie Kaliff, all of York; three daughters, Ginger and her husband Steve Mills of Greenwood, Susan J. and her husband James Gardner of Kearney, and Lori Kelle of York; 14 grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Carol Brozovsky of McCool Junction; a brother-in-law, Jim and his wife Dona Kaliff of McCool Junction; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Neville of Grand Island; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Junction with the Rev. Michelle Olson officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in York. Memorials may be directed to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Junction, the Alzheimer's Foundation or directed to the family. The family will greet friends and neighbors from 7-9 p.m. Monday evening at the mortuary.

Lucie Beier
Oregon resident, 85
Lucie Beier, age 85, of Roseburg, Ore., died Monday, June 9, 2002, in Roseburg.
Lucie was born Dec. 8, 1917, on the family farm northwest of Henderson to Henry P. and Mary (Janzen) Friesen. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1935 and moved to California to work in 1939. She married
Ben Beier at Henderson on April 27, 1941, and they established their home in South Gate, Calif., where they raised their family. Lucie was a member of the Immanuel Mennonite Church in Downey, Calif. Lucie and Ben celebrated 61 years of marriage just prior to Ben's death in May of 2002, and later that year, Lucie moved to Roseburg, Ore.
Lucie is survived by her son, Terry and his wife Cynthia Beier of Phoenix, Ariz.; her daughter, Beverly Beier and her husband Bob Speedy of Roseburg, Ore.; three grandchildren; brother Fred Friesen of Henderson, and sister Sophia Bergen of Sutton.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, at 2 p.m. at the Bethesda Mennonite cemetery near Henderson. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.
