Ramona Arp
Lexington resident, 66
Ramona Ann Arp, 66, of Lexington died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at her home.
She was born March 15, 1934, at Shickley to Adolph and Leona (Schmock) Volkmer. She grew up in the York area and graduated from McCool High School in 1951. On July 8, 1963, she married
Kenneth Arp at Sidney. The couple moved to Lexington in 1963 where Ramona worked several places around Lexington, including Pamida for eight years, KRVN for seven years, Park Avenue Estate for five years, and Bryan Elementary School, where she was a cook.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Lexington, president of the local chapter of the AARP from 1995-1997 and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as secretary of the Boy Scouts. She volunteered at Mid-Nebraska Community Services and the Grand Generation Center.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Arp of Lexington; two sons, Scott (Marla) Arp and Brian Arp, all of Lexington; brothers, Clinton (Dee) Volkmer of Columbus and Duane (Phyliss) Volkmer of DeWitt; sister, Patricia (Russell) Bredenkamp of York; sisters-in-law, Vivian Volkmer of Geneva and Irma Volkmer of McCool; five stepchildren, Kenneth Arp Jr. of California, Daniel and Charmaine Arp of Grand Island, Linda Arp of North Carolina, Daphne Arp of Houston, Texas, Barbara Arp of Ord; three grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gilbert and Dallas; and one sister-in-law, Ruby Volkmer.
Services are Monday at 10: 30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Lexington with Pastor Roger Sloan officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel In Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the Tri-County Hospital Hospice. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
Louis Burchfield
Gresham resident, 45
Louis Lawrence Burchfield, 45, of Gresham died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000. He was born on Sept. 11, 1955.
Survivors include his wife, Doreen and son Shane of Gresham; son, Paul of Lincoln; mother, Lauretta Burchfield of AuGres, Mich.; sisters, Thelma Hoadley of East Tawas, Mich., Vicki Konenske of Tawas City, Mich., Jill Gawne of Prescott, Mich.; brothers, Larry and Terry of AuGres, Mich., and John of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Burchfield.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct 27, at Jacques and Koxas Funeral Home, Tawas City, Mich. Services are pending. Memorials may be sent to the family in Gresham.
Gordon Pelc
O'Neill resident, 68
Gordon D. Pelc, 68, of O'Neill died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
He was born on March 24, 1932, at Spencer to Frank and Elsie (Blitzkie) Pelc at Spencer. He attended Spencer Public School. He was married
to Shirley Walth on Nov. 13, 1955, at Leadville, Colo. Four children were born to this union. He married
Darlene Holmberg on June 12, 1990. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1955 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Registered Paint Horses Association.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene; sons, Phil (Linda) of Stromsburg, Randy (Jodi) of Osceola, Lenny (Deb) of Aurora, Colo., and Steve of Fayettville, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Howard of Spencer and Walt of Norfolk, and three sisters, Leona Carmichael of Lincoln, Irene Scheinost of O'Neill and Frances Holmberg of Bristow.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; parents; brothers Arnold, Arthur and John; sister Opal Johnson; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Spencer. The Rev. Philip Morrison-Sloat will officiate. Burial will be in Union cemetery in Spencer. Brockhaus Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
Beverly Friesen
Beverly A. Friesen, 65, of Henderson died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Henderson.
She was born Sept. 10, 1935, in Henderson to Herman J. and Eva (Kroeker) Janzen and was an active member of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Beverly graduated from Henderson High School in 1953 and recently retired from Cornerstone Bank in Henderson after nine years of service. She was a member of Mission Circle #2, the Chancel Choir and was a previous member of the Women's Golf Association at Henderson. On Aug. 9, 1955, she was married
to Myron Friesen at Henderson.
She is survived by her husband, Myron, of Henderson; three sons, Matt (Dellene) Friesen, Cal (Brenda) Friesen, and Jim (Jeanette) Friesen, all of Henderson; two daughters, Lori (Luke) Jacobsen of Marquette and Gayle Siebert of Henderson; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice (Marie) Janzen of Henderson and Homer (Jean) Janzen of Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Elvera (Edwin) Peters of Henderson; sister-in-law, MayBelle Janzen of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Blaine (Karren) Friesen of Henderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Rev. Weldon Martens officiating. Burial was in the Bethesda cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Church Music Fund or to the Bethesda Radio Broadcast. Metz Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Verna Harris
Verna Loucille (Mapel) Harris, 69, of Lexington died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
She was born on July 12, 1931, to Clare and Agnes (Wolf) Mapel at their home near Walworth.
She attended grade school at Gates. She attended school in Sargent and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1949. She was baptized on April 11, 1954, and confirmed on May 24, 1954, at the Walworth United Methodist Church. She married
Kenneth W. Harris on Aug. 22, 1954, at the Sargent Methodist Church parsonage in Sargent. To this union two children were born. In 1966 Verna and her family moved to Lexington from York.
Throughout her life she worked as a dishwasher and waitress, also a painter and welder at Plains Manufacturing, as a cashier at Len's Liquor for 25 years and for the past 13 years she was a cashier and lay-away manager at Walmart in Lexington.
She is survived by one daughter, Rhonda (Gene) Gilland of Oconto; two grandchildren; one sister, Lulu (LeRoy) Matousek of Sargent; three brothers, Custer (Betsy) Mapel of Noble, La., Howard (Lois) Mapel of York, and Harley Mapel of Schuyler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Harrold; her son, Kenneth E., and her former husband, Kenneth W. Harris.
Services will be held Friday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope cemetery near Lexington. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Children's Miracle Network through Walmart. Lloyd Mart
Forrest Mart and Eunice Whitmore of York received word of the death of Forrest's brother, Lloyd Mart, in Hutchinson, Kan.

Margery Melkus
Margery Wochner Melkus, 88, of Grand Island died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
She was born April 1, 1912, in York, the daughter of Fred and Ada (Price) Wochner. She grew up in York and graduated from York High School with the class of 1929.
She worked in North Platte before her family moved to Grand Island. She was married
to Leonard Melkus on Oct. 26, 1936, at St. Mary's Cathedral. Her husband was associated with Geer-Melkus Construction in Grand Island for over 50 years. He died in February of 1996.
She was a long-time member of St. Mary's Parish and was active in the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Bible Study Club and numerous youth activities.
She is survived by three sons, Roger (Lovie) Melkus of Flower Mound, Texas, Gordon (Rona) Melkus of Clovis, Calif., and Richard (Susan) Melkus of Omaha; two daughters, Marilyn (Joe) McCluskey of York and Rita (Frank) Sargent of Sioux City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Daniel Robert; and sister, Marie.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at 11 a.m. from St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Don Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. A parish rosary will be recited at 6: 30 p.m., Monday, with the Catholic Daughters' rosary at 4 p.m., Monday. The family will be present to receive friends from 5: 30 to 6: 30 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to be given to the Grand Island Central Catholic School.
Laverne Inhelder
Memorial services will be held at Stockholm Lutheran Church in Stockholm, on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m., for Laverne Dimps Swanson Inhelder of Denver, Colo.
She is survived by a son, Jim (Betty) Inhelder, and daughter, Jan Inhelder Carter; three grandchildren, Andy (Beth) Inhelder, Nick Inhelder and Kim Carter; and two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Inhelder and Tess Inhelder, all of Denver, Colo.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Harry and Minnie Swanson; sisters, Olive Hulkene and Minette Nelson; and brother, Wallace Swanson.
Pearl G. Fleharty
Pearl G. Fleharty, 84, of Fairmont, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, in Geneva.
She was born on May 23, 1916, in York to Milford and Anna (Murrell) Parker.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Fleharty of Lincoln and Larry Fleharty of Fairmont; three daughters, Judy Eifert of Tulsa, Okla., Bonnie Wettstead of Fairmont, and Peg Maulsby of Canal Fulton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m., at the Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont. Visitation begins at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28, at the Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Graveside services will be held at the Fairmont Public cemetery in Fairmont. The Rev. Betsy Galloway-Carew will officiate.
William W. Peters
William W. Peters, 99, of Henderson, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 in Henderson. He was born July 28, 1901, south of Henderson to John D. and Katherina (Wieler) Peters. He married
Anna Epp on Jan. 25, 1925 at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. His wife died in April of 1990. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.
He is survived by two sons, LeRoy (Geraldine) Peters of Henderson and Harlan (Roine) Peters of Stevensville, Mont.; daughters, Lucille (William) Gering of Mishawaka, Ind., Inez Hiebner of Henderson and Marlene Peters of Henderson; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and his sister, Anna Siebert of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 25, 2000 at 10 a.m. at the Bethesda Mennonite Church at Henderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Henderson Care Center. Visitation will begin Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000 at 5 p.m. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.
Robert E. Stromberg
Robert E. Stromberg, formerly of Polk, died July 19, 2000 in Washington D.C.
Interment services are scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 10: 30 a.m. at the Polk cemetery. Following the burial, a lunch and fellowship time will be held at the Polk United Methodist Church.

Ruth H. Lloyd, 78, of York, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at York. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.
Mildred Hays
Mildred L. Hays, 89, of York, formerly of Trumbull, Giltner, and Aurora area, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 5, 2000 at The Hearthstone Care Center in York.
She was born on July 5, 1911 at Holyoke, Colo., to Rudolf and Estella (Menzie) Wunderlich. She attended grade school at Holyoke, and then when she was in the sixth grade her family moved to the Giltner, Neb., area. She graduated from Giltner High School in 1929. She later taught at Case District Country School near Giltner for two years. She was united in marriage to Bert W. Hays on June 7, 1931 at Giltner.
She and her husband were "major volunteers, " and her memberships included the County Extension Club at Giltner, the Giltner Women's Club and the American Federation of Women's Clubs. She was a longtime member of the Library Board at Giltner and a volunteer at the Plainsmen Museum in Aurora; a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association. She was active in both the local and Nebraska State Chapters of the American Association of Retired Persons and served on the Governor's Board of Aging. She was Past Worthy Matron of both the Giltner and Aurora Chapters of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a longtime member of both the Giltner and Aurora United Methodist Churches, where she was a longtime Sunday School Teacher, Youth Fellowship Leader, and a longtime Nebraska Conference Annual Delegate for the Giltner church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila A. (Gary L.) Hubbard of York; two sons, E.W. "Will" (Norma) Hays of San Diego, Calif., Wayne (Gretchen) Hays of Malibu, Calif.; one foster-daughter, Faith Scott of Colony, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Hays of Philadelphia, Pa., Rhonda McCaully of Monument, Colo., Rich (Jane) Hays of Richmond, Va., Randy (Cindy) Hays of Price, Utah, Sandra Hays of San Francisco, Calif., Heather Hays of Los Angeles, Calif., Derek Hays of Boston, Mass., Brooke Hubbard of Denver, Colo., and Brady and Brant Hubbard, both of York; eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and five foster-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Gaymon of Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bert W. Hays on July, 8, 1998, sister Leona Wunderlich, and brother Wilbur Wunderlich.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18 at the Giltner United Methodist Church in Giltner, with the Rev. Nora Leeds officiating. Cremation. A private family interment of the ashes will be held at the Giltner cemetery at a later time. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be made in care of the Giltner United Methodist Church.

DeLorris Huebert
DeLorris Huebert, 72, of Henderson, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 at Lincoln.
She was born May 11, 1928 in Hamilton County to Daniel H. and Elizabeth (Mierau) Peters. She was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. On Aug. 14, 1947 she was married
to Leo H. Huebert at Henderson.
She is survived by two sons, Randy (Joni) Huebert of Aurora and Jimmy (Michelle) Huebert of Baltimore, Md.; four daughters, Sandra (Arnie) Klassen of Henderson, Joan (Jim) Donner of Lincoln, Kathleen (Jack) Taormina of Corona, Calif. and Marcie Huebert of York; one daughter-in-law, Cindy Huebert of Henderson; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dinah (Carl) Siebert of Henderson and Carol (Ralph) Kroeker of Sun City, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 24, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Rev. Weldon Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Bethesda cemetery. Visitation has begun at Metz Mortuary in Henderson.
Memorials may be directed to the Preschool Fund at the Bethesda Mennonite Church.
Harley A. Rediger
Harley A. Rediger, age 66, of York, died Thursday, July 27, 2000 in York. He was born July 17, 1934 to William and Mary (Kramer) Rediger at Miller, South Dakota. He served in the voluntary services testing radiated foods for the military. On September 10, 1956 he married
Arla Kennel. Harley was a long-time employee of York Packing Company.
He is survived by his wife, Arla of York; sons, Steve of York, Rick of Omaha and Mark of Marquette, NE; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; mother-in-law, Sylvia Kennel; three brothers; one sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marla; two brothers and one sister.
Memorial services will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Salem Mennonite Church with burial in the church cemetery, located at 820 Road V, at Shickley, NE. Cremation. No visitation. Memorials in care of the family. Metz Mortuary in York is in charge of arrangements.
