Helen McMillian
Beatrice resident, 83
Helen McMillian, 83, of Beatrice died on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at Bryan/LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1918, at Turkey Creek, Neb. She worked as a cook in a restaurant in California. In 1957, she moved back to Beatrice. She worked at the Paddock Hotel and then at the Beatrice State Developmental Center for 33 years until she retired in 1979. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Richard) Fielder of Beatrice; grandson, Adam Fielder of Beatrice; sisters, Norma O'Brien and Mary Ann Grote, both of Richardson, Texas, and Susan (Bruce) Kyger of Fort Lauderdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Katie (Volz) Grote; sisters, Marcella Placek, Jeanette Soukup, Pauline Filipowicz, Leona Grote and Bernice Krupica; and brother, Frank Grote.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10: 30 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice. Officiating will be Father Mark Seiker. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. There will be no visitation. A memorial book will be available for signatures. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.

Austin Polzin
Lincoln resident, 3
Austin Charles Polzin, 3, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Lincoln. He was born June 30, 1998, in Lincoln to Kurt and Kathy (Kaiser) Polzin.
Survivors include his parents; brother, Alexander David Polzin; grandparents, Charles and Barbara Kaiser of York, and David and Sharon Polzin of Fremont; aunts and uncles, T.J. and Kristi Schirmer of Lincoln and Kent and Jennifer Polzin of Atlanta, Ga.; and cousins, Grant and Jackson Schirmer of Lincoln and Andrew and Rebecca Polzin of Atlanta.
Visitation is today (Tuesday), starting at 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 'O' Street with Father Edwin Stander officiating. Burial was held in Fairview cemetery. Memorials may be sent in care of the family.
Rosemary Diehl
Ankeny, Iowa resident, 54
Rosemary Elaine Diehl, 54, of Ankeny, Iowa, died of breast cancer Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center.
She was born in Greeley, Colo., and grew up on a farm. She lived in York for 13 years prior to living in Ankeny for 14 years. She was a science teacher, girls' basketball and softball coach, leader for the Ankeny Achievers 4-H Club, and 4-H program assistant for the Polk County Extension Service. She received recognition for her service to the 4-H program and the Polk County 4-H and FFA Fair. She was also an advocate for health education and cancer patient support.
She worked part-time at the Mercy Cancer Center in Des Moines and received a National Cancer Survivor Award on June 3, 1999. While at York, she was president of the York General Hospital-Hearthstone Auxiliary, 1985-87. She was a member of PEO, League of Women Voters and the National Arbor Day Foundation.
She is survived by her husband, Allen; a daughter, Sandra Fletcher of Boise, Ida.; two sons, Todd and Chris of Ankeny; her parents, Luverne and Anne Hertzke of Greeley, Colo.; her brother, Allen Hertzke of Norman, Okla.; and two sisters, Nancy Hertzke of Greeley, Colo., and Linda Neeley of Ormond Beach, Fla.
Friends may call for visitation Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church. The body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Louise Neville
Houston, Texas, resident, 86
Louise Hurley Neville, 86, of Houston, Texas, formerly of York, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at her home after a battle with emphysema and leukemia.
She was born on Jan. 28, 1915, to William and Mary Leif of Utica. She was married
to William Hurley who preceded her in death in 1974. She lived in Exeter and York where she married
Edmund Neville.
She was retired from Foley's Department Store in Houston and was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Church in Houston. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou Nelson; son, William (Elizabeth) Hurley III; grandchildren, Leif, Thor and Eric Nelson; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Becker and LeNara Coffey of Exeter; two brothers, Paul Leif of Beaver Crossing and Clarence Leif of Lincoln; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Mass was Monday, Sept. 17, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with interment at Houston National cemetery.
Everett Swanson
Stromsburg resident, 84
Frank Everett Swanson, 84, of Stromsburg died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at his residence.
He was born on May 22, 1917, at Aurora, Ill., to Frank and Esther (Geist) Swanson. He graduated from East High School in Aurora, Ill., in 1934.
On Nov. 2, 1940, he was married
to Dorothy Bertha Camenisch at McCausland, Iowa. to this union three children were born.
He began working for Austin-Western as a cost accountant in Aurora, Ill., until the mid-1950s. He then worked for the Leo G. Lauzen accounting firm in Aurora, Ill.
The family moved to Rochester, Minn., where Everett joined in partnership with Quiter, Younger and Swanson Accounting where he worked until 1977. He was then semi-retired to Hemet, Calif., where he began working for Coachman Travel and Trailers as an office manager for seven years. He later worked for H&R; Block for 15 years until retiring to Stromsburg on April 7, 1998.
He was a member of the Accounting Association of Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Stromsburg; one daughter, Kathleen M. (Raymond) Nelson of Stromsburg; one son, David B. (Susan Valvoda) Swanson of Rochester, Minn.; one son-in-law, Bill Mosso of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Kay Swanson; two nieces; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Dorothy C. Mosso; one brother, Ralph Swanson, and one sister, Marion Swanson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 16, at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church with Pastor Bob Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg. Burial will be in the Stromsburg cemetery.
Viola Johnston
Stromsburg resident, 85
A. Viola Johnston, 85, of Stromsburg, formerly of Osceola, died Saturday, July 14, 2001 at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg on Saturday, July 14, 2001.
She was born on Oct. 16, 1915, in Gering, the daughter of Charles J. and Kittie (Evans) Shadden. She was married
to Virgil L. Johnston, Sept. 16, 1937, in Kansas. She worked as a dispatcher in the Polk County Sheriff's Office and as a Senior Companion in Osceola.
Survivors include her sons, Wayne (JoAnn) Johnston of Yuba City, Calif., Gary Johnston of Santa Monica, Calif., John (Glarae) Johnston of Bradshaw, Dale (Nancy) Johnston of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, Linda (Tom) Voss of Stockton, Calif.; sister, Jackie (Leslie) Klepp of Hirwassa, Ark.; sister-in-law, Violet Harrison of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1982, one granddaughter, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Richard Dimond officiating. Visitation will be today (Monday) from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will be at the Hoffer cemetery in rural Gresham.
Anna Krejci
Exeter resident, 85
Anna Mae Krejci, 85, of Exeter, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Exeter.
She was born, the daughter of John and Anna (Kucera) Krejci, on March 22, 1916, at Exeter.
Survivors include her nieces Lorene Brown and Ione Krejci, both of Lincoln; and nephews, Ronald Krejci of Fairmont and Francis Biba of Exeter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 23, at the United Church of Christ at Exeter. Graveside services will be held at the Exeter cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-9 p.m., at Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter. Rev. Bob Brauninger will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Exeter United Church of Christ.

Darryl M. Hunt, 74, of Fairmont died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, in Fairmont.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1927, at Exeter to Dennis and Clara (Pinneo) Hunt.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerda of Fairmont; son, Roger (Trudy) Hunt of Sterling; daughters, Roxanne LaRue (Rollyn) Wiebe of Sterling, Rhonda Hunt and friend Donnie of Lincoln, Ranelle (Raymond) Nunnenkamp of Lincoln, Robin (Mike) Knipple of Lincoln, Reta (Bob) Studnicka of Lincoln, Beth (Robert) Stawniak of Weeping Water; step-daughters, Sharon (Jack) Jacobs of Geneva, Kathryn (John) Busback of Fairmont, Pamela (Greg) Cowins of Mitchell, S.D., Kimberly Whiteford of York; brothers, Richard (Barbara) Hunt of Lincoln, Larry Hunt of Omaha; sisters, Marcia (Jerry) Dragoo of Crete, Patricia Chaney of Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont with the Rev. Betsy Galloway Carew officiating. Visitation began Tuesday (today) at 11: 30 a.m. at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva. Military graveside services will be held at Fairmont Public cemetery in Fairmont. Memorials may be given in care of the family.

Reuel C. Sward, 88, of Stromsburg died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the Hearthstone in York.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keith Brozek officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until service time at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Swede Home cemetery.

Lumir Moural
Schuyler resident, 83
Lumir Moural, 83, of Schuyler, died Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Extended Care Unit of Alegent Health Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Colfax County, the son of Frank and Lenora (Novak) Moural. He attended Colfax County Rural District #6 school.
He married
Mildred Legler on Oct. 8, 1941. He worked as a farmer until his retirement on 1977.
He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Schuyler and the Farm Bureau. He also served on the District #6 School Board.
Survivors are one son, Dennis Moural of Indianola, Iowa; one daughter, Jeanne (Leonard) Anderson of York; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Myron and Gary; one daughter-in-law, Diane; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Elmer and Leonard.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, Feb. 5, at the Svoboda Funeral Home in Schuyler. Interment was at the Schuyler cemetery.
Memorials should be directed to the St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Phyllis Veline
York resident, 81
Phyllis Marie Veline, 81, of York died Thursday, May 17, 2001, in Omaha.
She was born March 29, 1920, in Winterset, Iowa, to Ryman and Meriam (Baur) Smith. Phyllis married
Roderick T. "Jack" Veline on Oct. 6, 1940, in Ames, Iowa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Karla (Max) Ronne of Henderson; her son, Jim (April) Veline of Omaha; six grandchildren, Greg, Marc (Judy) and Ross (Michelle) Ronne, and Ronda, Jody and Brandy Bowden; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fran Ohrvall of Independence, Mo., and Esther Schmidt of Kankakee, Ill.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband "Jack" in 1996, and daughter, Sandra Bowden.
Funeral services will be held at 10: 30 a.m., Monday, at Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, York. Memorials may be given in care of the family. Visitation for the public will be Sunday, 4 to 9 p.m., at Metz Mortuary in York which is in charge of arrangements.

Doris Treakle, 88, of Beatrice, formerly of Omaha, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Beatrice. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.
Logan Otto
York resident, 78
Logan Otto, 78, of York died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Aurora. He was born at Charleston on July 5, 1923, to Moritz and Mary (Rich) Otto.
He was married
to Adeline M. Sackschewsky on Jan. 9, 1959. Logan was a lifetime York County farmer and seed corn dealer. He was a private pilot, a motorcycle enthusiast, and enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife Adeline of York; son Logan M. Otto Jr. of York; daughters, Cynthia (Gregory) Bolte of McCool Junction, Sandra (Jerry) Couch of Lee's Summit, Mo., Linda (Dr. Christopher) Vanderneck of Henderson and Karla Otto of York; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene (Fred) Scheele of Waco and Jeanette (Lee) Foster of Gurley, Neb.; and sister-in-law, Mary Otto of York. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Malvin and sister Lucile.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Council Church (six miles west of Perennial Power) with Phil Towle. Interment was Friday at the Council cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Ironhorse Station G518 at McCool Junction.
