Walter Schroeder
Lincoln resident, 88
Walter Henry Schroeder, 88, of Lincoln died Saturday, May 26, 2001. He was born to Henry and Anna (Henricks) Schroeder on May 17, 1913, in Pleasant Dale. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his brother, Adolph Shroeder of Oakton, Va.; brothers-in-law, Louis (Alma) Hoffman of Lincoln and Elroy Hoffman of York; sisters-in-law, Leona Schroeder of Lincoln and Jane Schroeder of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; parents, Henry and Anna (Henricks) Schroeder; and brothers, Earl and Roy Schroeder.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 510 S. 33rd St. in Lincoln. Pastor Mark Ebert will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Monday, May 28, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home; Tuesday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and Wednesday, May 30, for one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be sent in lieu of flowers to the Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
Mardell Lind
Stromsburg resident, 63
Mardell Max Lind, 63, of Stromsburg died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the York General Hospital in York.
On Nov. 1, 1937, Mardy was born at Stromsburg to Lawrence Willard and Hazel Leona (Flodman) Lind. He attended school at Stromsburg, graduating from Stromsburg High school in 1955.
On June 8, 1955, Mardy enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served until June 8, 1963. He attended Milford College in Milford, Neb., where he received his computer science degree. He attended Oakland Community College at Rochester, Mich., where he received his degree in business administration on June 1, 1975.
Mardy then moved to Lincoln and began working for Burroughs, now Unisys, as a computer programmer until he transferred to Detroit, Mich., where he worked until 1975. Mardy then began working for Younkers department store in Des Moines, Iowa, and then was employed at First Interstate Bank Systems in Des Moines.
Mardy was married
to Elsa Louise Moseley on Nov. 12, 1977, at Des Moines. In 1991 Mardy and his family moved to Stromsburg where he was an independent computer consultant until 1993 when he began working as a manager of systems operations for Southern Power Company in Grand Island.
Mardy was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and was active as an usher and in the church's video ministry. He was a member of the York Elks, the Ryan Hills Country Club, and served as president of the Polk County Recreation Association. He served on the Stromsburg City Council for eight and a half years.
Survivors include his wife Elsa of Stromsburg; son, Lawrence Lind of York; four daughters, Kathryn (David) Ingram of Fresno, Calif., Karen (Terry) Whipple of Ankeny, Iowa, Diana (Kendal) Cook of Des Moines, Iowa, and Debra (Randy) Rockwell of Chicago, Ill; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, Larry (Betty) of York, Daniel (Margaret) of Grand Island, and Kent (Carole) of Lincoln; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary LInd.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg with Pastor Keith Brozek officiating. Burial will be at the Stromsburg cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2001, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Howard Wolstenholm
York resident, 91
Howard E. Wolstenholm, 91, of York, died Friday, May 25, 2001, in York.
He was born June 29, 1909, in York County near McCool Junction to William and Esther (Woodward) Wolstenholm. He was a 1928 graduate of McCool High School. He married
Alice Allen on Sept. 8, 1935, in York County. She preceded him in death in 1961.
He married
Alma Allen on Jan. 29, 1966, in York. He was a retired York County farmer. He was a member of the East Avenue United Methodist Church in York, a past member of the York County Extension Board, York County Farm Bureau, District 22 rural school board, Leroy Township Board, York County REA Board and the Epworth Village Farm Board.
He is survived by his wife, Alma of York; daughter, Loa (Robert) Folts of Waverly; son, Rex (Linda) Wolstenholm of Rogers, Ark.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Waldron of Nampa, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, at Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Jo Harper officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery in York. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., Sunday, at Metz Mortuary in York.
Memorials should be made in care of the family.
Eunice Hoffmann
Lincoln resident, 86
Eunice M. (Bohling) Hoffmann, 86, of Lincoln died Tuesday, May 29, 2001.
She was born March 21, 1915, in Bostwick, to Herbert and Nannie (Symonds) Kenney. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Lincoln.
While living in Fairmont until 1977, she raised her four children and was active in the Fairmont Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher and a member of W.S.C.S.
She is survived by three sons, Harry H. (Carolyn) Bohling of Pasadena, Calif., Ronald E. (Marilyn) Bohling of Lincoln, and Daniel W. (Linda) Bohling of McNeal, Ariz.; daughter, Marilyn (Waldemar) de Rijk of Downers Grove, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry L. Bohling and Charles J. Hoffmann.
Graveside services will be held at 10: 30 a.m., Friday, June, 1, at the Fairmont cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Lauren Eckdahl. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m., Thursday, and the family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln. Memorials may be sent to the family.
Geraldine Burnham
York area native, 86
Geraldine (Jerre) Burnham, 86, died Friday, May 25, 2001, in Denver, Colo.
She was born March 9, 1915, in Exeter, the daughter of Nick and Nora Wilger. She grew up in York and graduated from St. Ursula's Academy (presently known as St. Joseph's).
She was married
to Frank Burnham Jr. of York in October, 1937.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and sisters Marcella Wilger, Marie Seigel and Fern Smith.
Survivors include her sister, Joann Thompson of York; children, Maurine Giegling of Denver, Colo., Sara Dunkelberg of Oakland, Calif., Frank of Sheridan, Wyo., and Mike of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be said Wednesday, May 30, at 7 p.m., at Metz Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 31, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Virginia Flynn
York resident, 80
Virginia I. Allen Flynn, 80, of York, formerly of Denver, Colo., (the mother of Harlene Garnhart of York), died Friday morning, May 25, 2001, at the Hearthstone Care Center in York.
Funeral Arrangements were incomplete as of press-time. There will be no local services or visitation. Lewis Funeral Chapel of York is in charge of local arrangements.
Richard Robson
Richard L. Robson, 64, of York died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in York.
He was born Aug. 9, 1936, in Thayer to Raymond and Ruth (Woolridge) Robson. He was a 1954 graduate of York High School and a 1963 graduate of the University of Nebraska with a B.S. in business. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a past commander of the Nebraska Navy. He married
Kelly Donohue on Aug. 31, 1963, in Sioux City, Iowa. Dick was the current owner of Mid Nebraska Insurors in York. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York, member and past president of York Rotary Club, York Elks Lodge, American Legion Bolton Post in York and was a long time supporter of York athletics.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly of York; sons, Rory (Kris) Robson of Des Moines, Iowa, Edmund Robson of Omaha and Chet (Kim) Robson of Marshall, Iowa; three grandsons; and his mother, Ruth Johnson of Lincoln.
His father and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 22, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A Rosary will be held at 7: 30 p.m., Thursday, at Metz Chapel in York. The family suggests memorials to the St. Joseph's Catholic School. Metz Mortuary in York is in charge of arrangements.
Mary H. Pittman
York resident, 102
Mary Hazel Pittman, 102, of York died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in York.
She was born Aug. 18, 1898, at Maxwell, to Daniel and Emma (Livey) McNamara. She married
George H. Pittman in 1922 at Bonesteel, S.D. George died in 1950. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Bundy of Tulsa, Okla., and Frances (Carl) Lindner of Lodgepole; three sons, Charles Pittman of Denver, Colo., Robert (Jean) Pittman of Florence, Colo., and John (Shirley) Pittman of Sun City, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, daughter (Mabel Ann), two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held today (Monday), June 11, at Metz Chapel in York with the Rev. Leo Seiker officiating. Burial was at the Rosemond cemetery northeast of York. Memorials should be made to the Hearthstone in York. Metz Mortuary in York was in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis Kleinschmidt
Grafton resident, 93
Phyllis Cathern (Mecham) Kleinschmidt of Grafton died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the Sutton Community Home at the age of 93.
Phyllis was born in Grafton on May 6, 1908, to Frank and Viola Mecham. She was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church in Grafton. She was a 1926 graduate of Grafton High School. Upon graduation, she helped her parents manage the Frank Mecham General Store in Grafton.
She was united in marriage to Ernest Kleinschmidt on June 14, 1931, at her parents' home in Grafton. They had one son, Kay Howard.
In 1937, they moved to rural Grafton when he began farming. Phyllis continued to work with her parents in the store until the business was sold in 1945. The farming operation grew and prospered into the present three-generation family farming operation.
Ernest died in 1991. She continued to reside at the farm until 1997, when she moved to the Mahoney House Assisted Living facility in York. In February of 2001, she moved to the Sutton Community Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; parents Frank and Viola Mecham; and granddaughter Diann Kleinschmidt.
She is survived by her son, Kay (Donna) Kleinschmidt of Grafton; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-granddaughters-in-law; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 1, at the Sutton Federated Church with the Rev. Bill Jardine officiating. Interment will be at the Grafton cemetery with Kohler Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Sutton Federated Church, the Sutton Community Home or the Grafton Rescue Squad.
Brian Jinright
Colorado resident, 38
Brian Jinright, 38, of Englewood, Colo., died April 17, 2001, at his home.
He was born Dec. 21, 1962, to Frank and Helen (Dook) Jinright at Lincoln. He attended school at Columbus A.F.B., Miss.; Grissom A.F.B., Ind.; and Holloman A.F.B., N.M. After his father retired from the Air Force in 1993, the family moved to Osceola. Brian finished school there and graduated in 1981.
He enlisted into the Air Force July 15, 1981. He took his basic training at Lackland A.F.B., Texas, after which he was stationed at Upper New Hereford in Oron, England. After four years of service, he moved to Ft. Morgan, Colo. He spent several years there and in Denver, after which he settled in Englewood, Colo., where he lived until his death. While living in Englewood, he was a certified floral designer.
Brian is survived by his parents, Helen of Naples, Fla., and Frank of Cordova, Ala; four sisters, Anne (Joe) Krickony, Patricia Hager, Sheryl (Jeff) Williams, all of Naples, Fla., and Samantha Albers of Omaha; one brother, David (Nina) Jinright of York; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, many friends and a special friend, John Fagerstrom.

Walter W. Fassig, 86, of York died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at his residence in York. Services are pending at Metz Mortuary in York.

Charlotte Armfield, 93, of O'Neill, died May 18, 2000. Services were held Monday, May 22, at Full Gospel Church in Butte. Rev. Vance Anderson officiated, with the burial in Pleasant Valley cemetery in rural O'Neill.
