Mendoza -- Phillip Edward, 62, Lincoln, died Thursday (1/24/2002). He was born to Edward S. and Leola R. (Halverson) on 11/3/39 in Lincoln. Phil played football for Lincoln High School and was named All City and All State Honorable Mention. After graduating from LHS (Class of 1957), he took employment with CB&Q;, beginning as a machinist and completing his 38 1/2 year career as a conductor. Phil volunteered for the U.S. Marines, serving his country 4 1/2 years, with duty in Vietnam, Philippines, Korea and Okinawa. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal (1965), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Expert Award Bar (1963, '64, '65). Phil married
his high school sweetheart, Linda Bindrum (LHS Class of 1958) on June 2, 1962. Phil was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, United Transportation Union for 40 years, LHS Alumni Association, lifetime member of VFW 131, BNSF Veterans Association, BNSF Cornhusker Club and BNSF Campers Club.
