Dorothy C. Steele
Kimball resident Dorothy C. Steele, 86, died on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at her daughters home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 8, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball, with the Rev. Francis Curran as the celebrant. Burial will be in Kimball cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Thursday, March 7, 7 p.m. at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. Visitation hours are scheduled from until 5 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
She was born on November 7, 1915 in Kearney, Nebraska to Cletus and Clara (Tilberry) Peerce. She came to Kimball with her family when she was eight years old.
She attended schools in Kimball and graduated from Kimball High School. She taught in county schools upon graduation from high school and later attended college at Scottsbluff, and Kearney State. She graduated from Chadron State College and returned to teach in Kimball for 30 years. She had also taught in Douglas, Wyo. After her retirement from teaching in 1978, she served as the Executive Director of Park Terrace in Kimball for a period of time.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Alter Society of the church. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge.
She married
Bernard Steele were married
in Scottsbluff on November 20, 1935. He died December 23, 1987.
She is survived by a son, Jim Steele and his wife Becky of El Toro, Calif.;daughter Betty A. DeFranco and her husband Ed of Kimball; 10 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter and a number of great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Jere Steele of Tecumseh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Eddie and a sister Cleo Humphrey.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Thelma Mintken
Former Bushnell resident Thelma Mintken, 91, died Thursday, February 28, 2002, at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney. She is the sister of Ed Zorn, Jr., of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.
Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, March 5, in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Father Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery. A Christian wake service was held Monday.
She was born in Bloomfield, Neb., on February 28, 1911, to Lilly (Freeburg) and Edward Zorn, Sr. She attended and school in Dalton, Neb., graduating in 1929. She attended the University of Nebraska.
She married
Lloyd Mintken on April 27, 1935, in Dalton, where they lived for several years before moving to Bushnell. In 1954, they moved to Sidney, where she lived until her death.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was active in Surviving Spouses.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Dan Markel of Lodgepole, Neb., Cheryl and Jerry Cronk of Bellevue, Neb., and Coleen and Jerry Langdon of Sidney; brother Ed Zorn, Jr. and his wife Shirley of Pine Bluffs; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd in 1986 and brother Glenn Zorn.
Memorials have been established to the Memorial Health Center Hospice, the St. Patrick's Catholic Church or the Sidney Memorial Gardens.

Roy Coffman
Kimball resident Roy Clinton Coffman, 87, died Monday, February 25, 2002, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Scottsbluff.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 1, 2 p.m., at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball, with the Rev. Terilynn Russ officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
He was born on February 11, 1915, in Laredo, Mo. to Elza and Allie (Hess) Coffman.
He married
Dorothy Forman on November 13, 1937, at Harrisburg. He worked at the Bull Canyon Ranch until World War II when he went to San Francisco to work as a welder in the shipyards. After the war, he came back to Potter and became a blacksmith and also farmed south of Kimball. He and his family moved to Kimball in the early 1950's and he worked for the Plains Construction Company until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Kimball; daughters Beverly Arnold and her husband Donnie of Kimball, Janice Baldwin and her husband Wayne of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., and Sharon Moore also of Pine Bluffs; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother John Rains of Kimball and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dennis, and a daughter Lorene Coralee.

Darlene Henderson
Former Kimball resident Darlene Mae Henderson, 68, died February 17, 2002, at her home in Blue Hill, Neb.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 21, at the Blue Hill Trinity Church.
She lived in Kimball from 1959 to 1968, where her husband worked for Haliburton.
She is survived by her husband Ivan; son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Kim Henderson; daughters and sons-in-law Kaylene and Terry Jordening of Blue Hill and Connie and Dan Hunter of Gillette, Wyo; sister Phylles Meyer; brother Donald Seeman of Blue Hill; and 12 grandchildren.
Virgil Nagel
Former Kimball resident Virgil Nagel, died Wednesday February 13, 2002.
A memorial service was held Saturday, February 16 at Cloverdale Funeral Home Reception Center in Boise. Cremation arrangements were made by Cloverdale Funeral Home.
He was born September 4, 1928, in Kimball to Otto and Violet (Camp) Nagel. He graduated from Kimball County High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy for three years.
He married
Barbara Foote in Long Beach, Calif., in May 1949. The moved to Boise in December 1951, where he worked until retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Lynn Howell of Moultrie, Ga.; son and daughter in law Gary and Rhonda Nagel of Nampa; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bertha C. Sharpton
Former Kimball resident, Bertha C. Sharpton, 90, died Wednesday, February 13, 2002, in Maranatha Village Lodge in Springfield, Mo.
Funeral services and burial were Saturday, February 16, in Springfield.
She was born on April 5, 1911. She married
John (Bud) Sharpton on January 5, 1931, in El Dorado, Kan. They lived in Kansas and Nebraska before retiring to Springfield in 1966.
She was a full-time wife and mother.
She was active in the Assemblies of God churches wherever they lived and was instrumental in beginning a church in Kimball, Neb.in the early 50's. She was a faithful member of Friendship Assembly of God in Springfield.
She is survived by sons Kenneth of Springfield and Johnnie and wife, Linda of Woodward, Okla.; daughters and sons-in-law Elsie and Stanley Bright, Aleda and Chuck Swartzendruber of Springfield, and Linda and Ken Davidson of Winfield, Kan., stepchildren Agnes Elliott of Texas, and Orville and wife, Donna Sharpton, Dilliner, Pa.; 16 grandchildren and 14 step-grandchildren; 30 step-great grandchildren; and 25 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, son, Wayne, daughter Glenna, stepdaughter Marie, two grandsons David and Duane, two brothers and one sister.
Armon P. Baker
Rural Potter resident Armon P. Baker, 59, died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at a later date in California.
He was born on January 19, 1943, in Westminster, Colo. to Phillip and Marjorie (Teeter) Baker. He was raised in Burlington, Colo., where he attended high school and graduated in 1960. He moved to San Diego and joined the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1983.
He married
Hilda Vasquez on June 17, 1972, at Las Vegas, Nev. He moved to Nebraska in 1999.
He was a member of the VFW.
Survivors included his wife, Hilda Baker of San Diego, Calif.; daughters Lima Baker, Rosa Medeles, Margurita McDaniel and Gladys Menjares; Phillip Baker; brothers Alvin, Bruce, Sanford and Craig Taylor; sister Cheryle Corrigan; and 11 grandchildren.
Herbert K. Schuessler
Herbert K. Schuessler, 76, died at his home north of Potter on Wednesday, February 13, 2002.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 16 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Potter, with the Rev. Ted A. Bourret officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
He was born to Arthur and Ottilie (Steffens) Schuessler on August 25, 1925, on a farm north of Potter.
He worked for his father until he was inducted into the army in January 1951. He took his basic training at Fort Riley, Kan in the 86th Infantry and served for 18 months with the Military Police Corps in Korea.
On June 7, 1953, he married
Annabelle Brogren at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dalton.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Lisa and Gregg Lubken of Hastings and Ardel Daffer of Lincoln; sons and daughters-in-law Duane and Shelley Schuessler of Sidney, Jerry and Wendi Schuessler of Sidney and Kevin and Sue Schuessler of Lincoln; sisters Olga Baack of Sidney; Mildred Katschor of Darborn, Mich.; Vanita Katschor of Bayonet Point, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law Harold and Bonnie Schuessler of Potter; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Opal Marie Jones
Opal Marie Jones, 92, of Gering, died Monday, February 18, 2002, at the Northfield Villa Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 21, 1:30 p.m. at the Cantrell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon.
She was born January 18, 1910, at Pierce, Neb. to Edward and Edna (Saunders) Tonner. She spent her early childhood in Norfolk and Big Springs. On July 1, 1929, she married
Howard Mercer Jones. They lived in Norfolk until coming to Scottsbluff in the early 1940's.
The couple ran the Jones Grill in Scottsbluff and Kimball until they retired in 1973. They also operated the Western Hotel in Mitchell from 1947-1955. In 1959, they moved to Kimball. He died on May 13, 1979, and she continued to live in Kimball until 1998.
She is survived by daughters Betty and husband Elton Peterson and Vondel and husband Alan Parish all of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Robert Walker of Denver, Colo, Bruce and wife Alna Parish of Chadron, Christie and husband Chris Bidwell of Broomfield, Colo., Kerry and husband Tom Jackson of Wheatland, Wyo. Dr. Dan and wife Linda Peterson of Gering, and Mark and wife Stephanie Parish of Ardmore; 18 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; sister-in-law Esther Tonner of York and two half sisters Lena and husband Ray Vesely of Verdigre and Lila and husband Earl Pritchett of Lynch and a half brother Marvin and wife Velma of Niobrara; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Her parents, husband, one sister and two brothers preceded her.

Sterling "Pete" Kunz
Former Kimball resident Pete Kunz, 77, died February 10, 2002 at his home in Denver, Colo. Funeral services were held Friday, February 15 at St. John's Lutheran Church.
He was born to Eddie and Frances Kunz on Jan. 12, 1925 at Weeping Water, Neb. He spent his childhood in Nebraska and Kansas. He served in the military from 1944 to 1946. He moved to Kimball in 1949 and worked for Albert Pietsch and later hauled crude oil.
He married
Maxine Schmoldt of Dix Aug. 24, 1952. They lived in Kimball until 1961 when they moved to Dix. They were transferred to Denver in June 1964 to continue his truck-driving career. He also worked for the University of Colorado at Boulder for 10 years, retiring in 1997 at the age of 72.
He is survived by his wife, son David, daughter Vicki and son Allen and their spouses. He has seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Also surviving is a brother Clarence of Lincoln, Neb. and sisters Mary Schippert of Goodland, Kan. and Frances Wallace of Colby, Kan.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
