George A. Foster

George A. Foster died Saturday December 3, 2005 at McCook Community Hospital. He was 93 years old.

He was born November 1, 1912 in Gothenburg to Angeloah and Martha (Sikorski) Foster. He graduated from Brady High School in 1931. He enjoyed wood working and making household furniture. He worked as a carpenter and was the manager of McCook Lumber Company for over 20 years,

George was in the U. S. Navy from 1932 until 1936. During World War II he worked in the Mare Island Ship yard in Vallejo, California.

On February 6, 1942 he married Kathleen D. Child in Gordon at the Presbyterian Church parsonage. To this union three boys were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl; sisters, Marguerite, Frances, and Rosemary.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of McCook; sons, David Foster and wife Theresa of Eagle, Colorado, John Foster and wife Dona of Golden, Colorado, and Kirby Foster of Windsor, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral services were Friday, December 9, 2005 at Carpenter Breland Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial took place in Ft. McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell.

Brett L. Fraker

Brett L. Fraker died Monday, February 14, 2005 in McCook. He was 23 years old.

Brett was born on October 11, 1981, at Oberlin, Kansas to Mark L. and Pam R. (Myers) Fraker. In 1995, he moved with his mom to McCook. He graduated from McCook High School in 2000 where he was a wrestler.

After graduation, he worked for Hixon Construction. Brett loved his family, all kinds of animals, riding horses and roping.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Loren and Hazel Myers; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his parents, Pam Fraker of McCook and Mark Fraker and wife, Cathy, of Oberlin; fiancé, Lindsey Dame of McCook; three sisters, Melissa Fraker and fiancé, Kristopher Mathews, of Omaha, Kristie and husband, Adam Cunningham, of McCook, and Darcie Zuck and special friend, Gregg Dempewolf, of Culbertson; grandparents, Robert and Marion Fraker of Oberlin, KS; four nieces and one nephew, aunts, uncles and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral service were Friday, February 18, 2005, at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Mike Roth officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Warren Herbert Frazier

Warren Herbert Frazier, 74, of McCook died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln.

He was born November 1, 1929 in Oakley, Kansas to Samuel E. and Mary Jane (Pickett) Frazier. He attended school at Oakley Public Schools.

On May 7, 1952 he entered the U.S. Army 2nd Infantry and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in February 6, 1954. After his discharge, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves for eight years. He returned to Quinter and Oakley, Kansas where he along with his father owned and operated sale barns. In 1959, he moved to the McCook community and was part owner/operator of the East Sale Barn. He later bought and fed cattle and attended an auction every day for the rest of his life.

He married Anna Aleen Deaver in Ellis, Kansas on August 3, 1946. She preceded him in death in April of 1991. On October 10, 1992 he married Sharon K. (Horner-Horst) in McCook.

He was a member of the VFW and life-time member of McCook Elks Lodge. He attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Aleen; one son, Steve in April of 1987; one brother, Gerald; and three sisters, Velma, Velda and Florence.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon of McCook; one son Joe and wife Jody Frazier of McCook; one daughter Penny Frazier of Hohot, China; two step-daughters, Ann Kester and husband Kipp of Bartley and Michelle Petersen and husband Todd of Minden; his step-mother, Fern Frazier of Quinter, KS; one brother, Max Frazier and wife Nancy of Manhattan, KS; and five grandchildren, Sarah, Stuart, Sam, Kirstyn and Karson.

Memorials may be given in his name to Community Hospital Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 26, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Maria Lucille (Rodriguez) Garcia

Maria (Lucille) Garcia died Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 86.

On February 8, 1919 she was born in Fort Madison, Iowa to Luis and Ramana (Martinez) Rodriguez. She attended school in McCook and lived most of her life in McCook.

She married Benito Garcia, Sr. on July 27, 1937 in McCook. To this union three sons and a daughter were born.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook. She loved her family, gardening, music and dancing, especially Mexican Fiesta’s. She and Benito were the Heritage Days Honor Family in 1981.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Francis Ortiz and Jean Ortiz, and two grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Benito of McCook; three sons, Robert Garcia of Woodriver, Benito Garcia, Jr. and wife Marleen and Joe Garcia and wife Gloria, all of McCook; a daughter, Frances Paz and husband Sam of McCook; 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rosa Castle of Omaha.

Memorials may be given to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Anna Irene (Lewis) Geihsler

Anna Irene Geihsler, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin, Kansas. She was 77 years old.

Anna was born on March 9, 1928 at Oberlin to Floyd and Francis Emma (Richards) Lewis. She graduated from Red Willow High School in 1947.

On August 12, 1947 she married Harlan Edward Geihsler at Oberlin. To this union three children were born. Anna and Harlan made their home on a farm southeast of McCook where they both shared the farming responsibilities. They remained on the farm until their health declined and they moved to the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.

Anna was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ash Creek. She loved the farm, cooking and entertaining, playing cards and dancing.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Floyd and Francis Lewis; one half-brother, Robert Ulrich; and one sister, Carol Aardal.

Survivors include her husband, Harlan Geihsler of McCook; one son, Dean Geihsler of McCook; two daughters, Debra Geihsler of Chicago, IL and Donna Geihsler of Wichita, KS; two half-brothers, Ray Ulrich and wife, Nancy, of Florida and LeRoy Ulrich and wife, Avis, of McCook; one sister, Katherine Prater of Stephenville, TX; four half-sisters, Mary Lou and husband, Bob Ross, of Culberston, Kay and husband, Dean Michaels, of Denver, CO, Heddy and husband, Wayne Reiners, of McCook and Virginia Mowe of McCook; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Ash Creek, with Pastor Mark Stahla officiating. Burial took place in the Danbury-Marion cemetery.

Jimmie Gerard

Jimmie R. Gerard, 55, died March 24, 2004 at his home in Cambridge.

He was born on Dec. 26th 1948, to Marvin and Edna Mae (Nelson) Gerard at Longmont, CO.

He was a child of four. He had two brothers William(Billy), Marvin(Shorty), and a sister Karla.

He lived in Loveland, Colo. most of his life until he moved to McCook Neb. He worked at the rendering plant and was a mechanic.

He lived with his brother Billy and sister-in-law Pat the whole time. He had been sick with diabetes for a long time.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Billy and Shorty Gerard.

Survivors include his sister, Karla and husband, Robert Istas, of Columbia, MO; sister-in-law, Patricia Gerard of Cambridge; and 8 nieces and nephews and 9 great-nieces and nephews who will always remember him forever.

In lieu of flowers memorials were to be given in his name.

Memorial services were Monday, March 29, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel. Inurnment took place at Riverview cemetery.

Gertrude Mae (Freeman) Geseking

Gertrude Mae Geseking, 88, of Wauneta died Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at Community Hospital in McCook.

She was born, October 1, 1915 to Merlin Austin and Mary Anne (Huff) Freeman at Ottumwa, IA. She attended school in Ottumwa and Alton, IL.

On February 18, 1932 she married Herbert F. Geseking at Lancaster, MO. She had lived in Palisade since 1954.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Ottumwa. She was a past member of the Nebraska Federated Woman’s Club, VFW Auxiliary, UMW and Club 13.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herbert on October 27, 1997; one son, Terry Allen; a brother, Andrew; two sisters, Mary B. Blackman, V. Margaret Schuttlefield; two half sisters, Zelma Gunther, Emily Moore Stone.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Lula Freeman of Arlington, VA.

Graveside services were Thursday, 11 a.m. at Fort McPherson National cemetery, Maxwell with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.

Memorials were to be given to the Palisade United Methodist Church.

Geraldine Fay (Tumbleson) Giespert

Geraldine Fay “Gerri” Giespert died Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 86 years old.

Gerri was born on November 6, 1919, at Cambridge to John Edwin and Lenora May (DeWester) Tumbleson. She graduated from Cambridge High School.

On April 24, 1939, she married William P. Bahl in McCook. To this union six sons were born. He preceded her in death on February 9, 1966. She was a cook for several restaurants and was a homemaker. On March 14, 1994, she married Kenneth Giespert at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook.

Gerri was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, BNSF Veterans Association, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She dedicated her life to her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Lenora Tumbleson; her husband, William Bahl; one grandson, Austin Bahl; two brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Giespert of McCook; six sons, John Bahl of McCook, Dan Bahl and wife, Jane, of Indianola, Tom Bahl and wife, Midge, of Dallas, TX, Tim Bahl and wife, Laurie, of Gering, Phil Bahl and wife, Pat, of Omaha and Roch Bahl and wife, Vickie, of Lincoln; one step-son, Greg Giespert of Hastings; three step-daughters, Cecilia and husband, Darrell Brown, of McCook, Christina and husband, Bob Marts, of Bartley and Cathleen and husband, Daniel Bell, of Lakewood, CO; daughter-in-law, Linda Bahl of Hays, KS; 15 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials were to be given to St. Patrick’s Elementary School.

Rosary was on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Father Brethour officiating.

Mass of Christian Burial took place on Wednesday, February 15, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Andrew Kurz officiating. Burial took place in the Calvary cemetery.

Denzel Floyd Gilbert

Denzel Floyd Gilbert, 81, died Wednesday (June 22, 2005) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

He was born in Achilles, KS on August 1, 1923 to Floyd Brice and Harriet Stowe (Raber) Gilbert. He graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, KS in 1942.

He married Vesta Elaine Brown in Atwood on August 20, 1944. To this union three daughters were born, Sharon, Sherrel and Gwen.

He was a self-employed farmer and truck driver in the Oberlin and Atwood Communities. He moved to McCook in June of 2000.

He loved his children, grandchildren. He also enjoyed coffee with his friends, and ballroom dancing.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Gladys Gilbert; a son-in-law, Carl Adams; and three brothers-in-law, Ben Hammerschmidt, Walt Shaw and Vinton Brown; a sister-in-law, Alby Gilbert; nephew Wilbur Baker; niece Kathryn Knopp.

Survivors include: his wife Vesta of McCook; three daughters, Sharon Frick and husband LaVern of Herndon, KS, Sherrel Adams of McCook, and Gwen Solko and husband Ken of McCook; a brother Jay Gilbert of Colby, KS; two sisters, Gly Shaw of Topeka, KS and Cletis Hammerschmidt of Hays, KS; a sister-in-law Volna Brown of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials were to be given in his name.

Memorial services took place Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Sam Williams officiating.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
