Jami Lynn (Johnson) Wilcox

Jami Lynn Wilcox, 27, died Saturday (Feb. 28, 2004) at Community Hospital of McCook.

She was born March 31, 1976, to James B. and Rhonda K. (Hartzog) Johnson at Lincoln. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1993, Southeast Community College in Lincoln in 1995 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

On June 1, 2002, she married Ryan Wilcox at McCook.

She was a laboratory technician at Community Hospital.

She was a member of the North Platte Presbyterian Church and had lived in McCook since February of 2002.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ruth and Les Whaley and her grandfather-in-law, Robert Crocker.

Survivors include her husband, Ryan and children, Braden, Kassidy and Kailey, all of McCook; her parents, Jim and Rhonda of North Platte; a sister, Mindy and husband, Mike Crow of North Platte; grandparents, Ron and Marylou Hartzog of Ogallala; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Cindy Wilcox of McCook; grandparents-in-law, Bob and Phyllis Wilcox and Doris Crocker all of McCook; a sister-in-law, Ashley Wilcox; and two brother-in-laws, Kyle Wilcox and Tyler Wilcox.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 11 a.m., at McCook Christian Church with the Rev. Clark Bates officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation is today and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.

Memorials are being accepted in her name.

Michele (Veronesi) Wilke

Michele Wilke, age 50, died at her home west of McCook on Saturday (April 29, 2006).

Michele was born the second of six children on June 13, 1955, at Brokton, MA to Norman and Barbara (Osborne) Veronesi.

On February 14, 2000, she married Marvin Wilke at McCook. They made their home in McCook.

Michele was a member of the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in McCook.

Preceding her in death were her brother, Robin Veronesi; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Wilke of McCook; three sons, Franklin, Anthony, and Cory Brinson all of Richland, North Carolina; her parents, Norman and Barbara Veronesi of Beaver City; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roland and Lola Wilke; four sisters, Lorna Pettitt and husband, Thomas of Folkston, NC, Kim Meinertzhagen and husband David of Holly Ridge, NC, Dawn Brooks and husband Isaac of Stamford, and Jennifer Pettitt and Martin of Willmington, NC; two grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial services will be Thursday, May 4, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in McCook.

Vernon Pete Williams

Vernon “Pete” Williams died at his home in McCook on Sunday, March 7, 2004. He was 62 years old.

Pete was born on May 13, 1941, in Ordway, CO to George Edward and Thora “Neva” (Russell) Williams. He graduated from Manitou Springs CO High School in 1959.

He entered the US Marines in 1960 and served in the Vietnam War. He continued to serve his country until his honorable discharge in 1969.

On May 31, 1960 he married Dessa Wilson in Aurora, CO. To this union four children were born. They made their home in several locations where Pete managed retail stores for over 30 years. He was owner and operator of his own business, Shelby’s $14.99 Store in Dodge City, KS. for three years. His last employment was with Duckwall/Alco Inc. and when his health prevented him from working, they moved back to McCook to be near family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Neva Williams; and his infant daughter, Theana Lea.

Survivors include his wife, Dessa of McCook; two sons, Kevin Williams and wife, Teresa and their children, Shelby and Tanner of Turpin, OK and Shawn Williams and wife, Carla, and their children, Christopher and Courtney of Joplin, MO; one daughter, Alisa and husband, Kim Parde, and their children, Atheana and Dustin of McCook; one brother, Lee Williams and wife, Martha, of Fort Worth, TX; sister, LaVonne and husband, Vincent Leitner, of Woodland Park, CO; numerous relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be in Fort Logan National cemetery, Denver, CO on Wednesday, March 10, 2004, 2:00 p.m. m.s.t. with Chaplin David Kenney officiating. Burial will be in Fort Logan National cemetery with military honors.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Friends in McCook may sign his book at the funeral home Monday and Tuesday.

Ada Martha (Jewel) Williams

Ada Martha Williams died Friday, November 25, 2005 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 88 years old.

She was born August 20, 1917 at Gandy, Nebraska to George Albert and Amelia Jane (Clark) Jewel. She attended rural school near Maywood and high school in Hayes Center.

She married Richard “Stanley” Williams in El Monte, CA on May 15, 1938. She moved to McCook in the late 70’s.

She was preceded in death by her husband on September 24, 2002; her parents and a brother, Wiley Jewel; and special care giver and cousin, William “Bill” Clark.

Survivors include a son, Richard William, Jr. of Denver, CO; a daughter, Mildred Jewel of Columbus; and special care giver Glora Clark.

Memorials may be given in her name.

There will be no visitation. Friends may sign her book at the funeral home or leave condolences on-line at www.carpenterbreland.com

A graveside inurnment service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park cemetery in McCook.

Bradley D. Williams

Bradley D. Williams, 63, of Indianola, died Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge.

Bradley was born in McCook, November 6, 1942 to Cecil C. and Roberta M. (McCafferty) Williams. He was raised in Bartley and graduated from Bartley in 1960.

He married Lynne M. Hierzer on August 17, 1963 in Denver, Co. To this union, two sons were born, Kevin and Barry.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil.

Survivors include wife, Lynne; sons, Kevin Williams and wife Sara of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Barry Williams and wife, Joy of Indianola; mother, Roberta; sisters, Dian Hubbell and husband, Jim of Lincoln, and Vonda Taylor and husband Mike of Edgar; grandchildren, Blake Williams of Indianola and Ella Williams of Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Memorials can be given in his name.

Funeral services will be at the Indianola cemetery on Monday, February 27, 2006, 11:00a.m. with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be in the Indianola cemetery. Following the burial, a dinner will be served at the Community building in Indianola.

Visitation will be Sunday 4:00-8:00, with the family greeting friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Raymond Willmann

Raymond Willmann, 88, died Monday, September 20, 2004 at McCook Community Hospital.

Raymond was born on March 25, 1916 at Cheyenne, Wyoming to George and Amelia (Amen) Willmann. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School, was confirmed and became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Culbertson.

Raymond entered the US Army on April 1, 1942, and served during World War II in the European Stage. After his honorable discharge on December 10, 1945, he returned to the Culbertson community and started farming which he dearly loved. He also enjoyed playing cards and had a great sense of humor which will be greatly missed. He was a life-time member of the Culbertson Veteran’s of Foreign Wars.

In August of 1948, he married Marie Rehn at Culbertson. She preceded him in death in March of 1988. Also preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Schafer and Elsie Summers; and one brother, Harry Willmann.

Survivors include his sister, Geraldine Johnson of Berthoud, CO; sister-in-law, Pauline Jones of Trenton; special friend and caregiver, Pauline Hagemann of Culbertson; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Graveside services will be at the Culbertson cemetery of Thursday, September 23, 2004, 2:30 p.m., with Pastor Randy Wahl officiating. There will be an Honorary Military Committal. Burial will be in the Culbertson cemetery.

Virgil Ayers Wilson

Virgil Ayers Wilson of Culbertson died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at McCook Community Hospital. He was 78 years old.

Virgil was born on January 29, 1927, in Hayes County, Nebraska to Dorsey and Lulu M. (Gray) Wilson. He graduated from Hayes County High School in 1943. On January 18, 1946, he entered the US Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 2, 1947.

Virgil married Norma Brecht on August 22, 1948, at Culbertson. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. Virgil was owner/operator of Wauneta Electric. He also was a farmer and owned a large hog operation. In later years he worked for the University of Nebraska, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Culbertson Trinity United Methodist Church. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Dorsey and Lula Wilson; and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of Culbertson; three sons, (Virgil) Ray Wilson and wife, Connie, of Brunsville, Iowa, Ken Wilson and wife, Cindy, of Culbertson and Dan Wilson and friend, Ron, of Denver, CO; three daughters, Jane and husband, Richard Braden, of Omaha, Karen and husband, Skip Krepcik, of Norfolk, VA and Polly and husband, Craig Weskamp, of Aurora, CO; two brothers, Dwaine Wilson and wife, Kay, of Lincoln and Darwin Wilson and wife, Pat, of Culbertson; four sisters, Velma Walker of Maywood, Vonda and husband, Paul Gigax, of Hayes Center, Shirley and husband, Jack Bishop, of Culbertson and Sharon and husband, Jerry Felker, of Greeley, CO; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 12, 2005, 2:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson. Burial will be Monday, November 14, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Fort McPherson National cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Phyllis Marie (Merklin) Wineinger

Phyllis Marie Wineinger, of Palisade, died Friday, February 17, 2006, at St. Joseph, Missouri, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 61 years old.

Phyllis was born on October 27, 1944 in Benkelman to Harold and Margaret (Hanes) Merklin. She was a homemaker and was very active in all of her children and grandchildren’s lives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Harold and Margaret Merklin; one brother, Warren Merklin; an infant sister, Dorothy; and one daughter-in-law, Alberta Nolan.

Survivors include her three sons, Jimmy Nolan, Ervin Nolan, Jr., and Daniel Nolan all of St. Joseph, MO; special friends, Ervin Nolan, Sr. and Warren Wineinger of St. Joseph; ten grandchildren, Crystal and husband, Bobby Vette, of McCook, Jimmy Nolan II and wife, Dianne, of McCook, Nina Nolan of Wauneta, Katrina and husband, Sean Baker, of McCook, Derek Nolan and Cain Nolan of St. Joseph, Joey, Joby and Lacey Nolan of St. Joseph, and Ervin Nolan III of Kansas City, MO; four great-grandchildren, Lane and Kelcie Vette, Brittanie Nolan, Branden Lucas and Hailea Baker; one sister, Hattie and husband, Jim Shreve, of Hastings; and one brother, Wilber Merklin and wife, Joyce, of Bird City, KS.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home or friends may send condolences online at www.carpenterbreland.com.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 21, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be at the Palisade cemetery following the service.

Katherine (Smith) Witzke

Katherine Witzke, McCook, formerly of Beaver County, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. She was 96 years old.

She was born on May 20, 1908 in Beaver County, Oklahoma to Henry D. and Katherine (Dalke) Smith. She lived all of her life in Beaver County, until the last few months when she lived with her daughter Myrna and Raymond Haag of Bartley. She had been living in Hillcrest for the last two weeks.

She attended Union grade school and Greenough High School.

Katherine married to Otis Glen Hughes on June 9, 1927. Otis died August 9, 1928.
She later married William Witzke on August 23, 1941. William died August 20, 1981.

Katherine was a homemaker. She served 25 years as church custodian and did lots of babysitting. She was a member of Turpin United Methodist Church and Turpin Senior Citizen’s Center in Turpin, Oklahoma. Her hobbies included sewing, embroidery, crocheting, and gardening.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Katherine Smith; her two husbands, Otis Hughes and William Witzke; 6 brothers and 4 sisters; 2 step-sons, George Witzke and Wilbert Witzke; 3 grandsons, Randall Moon, Mark Hughes and Ronald Haag; and 2 daughters-in-law, Roberta Hughes and Sheryn Hughes.

Survivors include one son, Glen Hughes and wife, Marcy, of Grants Pass, Oregon; one daughter, Myrna Haag and husband, Raymond, of Bartley; two daughters-in-law, Merreta Witzke and Geraldine Witzke; 14 grandchildren Mike Hughes, Robbie Stillwell, Glenna Bunnell, Susan Kempel, Kendall Moon, Cindy Seberger, Annie Patton, Steve Haag, Colleen Michaelis, Jeanine Bindel, Cindy Witzke, George Witzke, Lisa Helmers, Lori Koehn; 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Friday, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Local services will be Saturday, March 12, 10:30 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel, with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.

Another service will be Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. in Turpin. OK. Burial will be in Liberal cemetery, Liberal, Kansas.
