Norma Nadine (Davidson) Zink
Norma Nadine (Davidson) Zink died on Friday, April 20, 2007, at Willow Ridge Retirement Community, McCook, Nebraska. She was 85 years old.
She was born June 20, 1921, in Gove County, Kansas, the daughter of Guy Rolland and Nellie (Smith) Davidson. She attended grade school at Dalton Valley and Shields Kansas and was a Dighton High School graduate.
She married
Kenneth Orice Zink on November 24, 1941 at her parent’s home in Dighton, Kansas. To this union were born four children: Joyce Elaine, Larry Kent, Joan Faye, and Barry.
Norma and Kenneth lived in Lane and Gove County, Kansas until Kenneth went to the military service and she moved back to Dighton, Kansas and then Denver, Colorado. Following Kenneth’s discharge from the service, they returned to Lane County. In 1949, she and her family moved to Danbury, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and raised her family in Danbury. She was active in her community, a leader in 4-H; an active member of the Danbury Presbyterian Church; Danbury Women’s Association, Danbury American Legion Auxiliary; Beaver Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars; and Eastern Star at McCook.
In November 1999, Norma moved to the Willow Ridge Retirement Community, McCook, Nebraska. She was an active member of that community, including the Red Hat Society, and she resided there until her death.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth O. Zink, one son Barry Zink, and three sisters.
Survivors include one son, Larry Zink and wife Laurel Erickson of Lincoln; two daughters Joyce Nicholson and husband Melvin of Lebanon; and Joan Dube of Sparks, Nevada. Six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two brothers: Delmar and Doyle Davidson, and one sister, Wilodyne Dooley.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 23, 2007, 1:30 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial was in the Danbury-Marion cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to McCook Community Hospital Foundation – Hospice or American Cancer Society.

Margaret Lois (Goodin) Elliott
Margaret Lois (Goodin) Elliott, 94, died Friday (January 11, 2008) at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln.
Margaret was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Hastings to Louis and Letty (Wightman) Goodin. She grew up in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1930. She attended Hastings College, graduating in 1934. She was a teacher in the Culbertson schools from 1934-1937.
She married
Harold A. Elliott in Hastings on June 13, 1937. They lived in Culbertson, before moving to McCook. In 2005 she moved to Highland Park.
She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, Chapter D TTT and A.A.U.W. of McCook and a past member of Chapter GY P.E.O.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Quine Goodin; an infant sister, Mary Jane Goodin; husband, Harold and one son, Robert D. Elliott.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan and husband, Ron Witkowski of Lincoln; son, William “Bill” Elliott and wife, Barb of McCook; daughter-in-law, Janice Elliott Winters of Culbertson; seven grandchildren; 15 grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials were to be given in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the donor’s choice.
Funeral services were Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Thurman officiating. Burial in the Culbertson cemetery.

Harry Howard Eiler
Harry Howard Eiler died Monday, March 24, 2008 at his home in McCook. He was 83 years old.
Harry was born to Harry Howard and Lena (Reasnor) Eiler on March 2, 1925 on the family farm near Oberlin, Kansas. He graduated from Decatur County High School in 1943. On September 8, 1944, he entered the US Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 15, 1946, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
On March 2, 1949, on his birthday, he was united in marriage to Beverly Hope VanVleet, which was also her birthday. They were married
at her parent’s home in Danbury. To this union two sons were born. They made their home in McCook. In 1959, Harry became part owner and operator of the West Sale Barn with Chet Youngs. He was instrumental in the business as an auctioneer of which he was self-taught. He retired in 1991 and continued to work as an order buyer of cattle for many farmers and ranchers.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church, National Auctioneers Association, National Livestock Market Association, McCook Elks Lodge, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He also served on the Community Hospital Board and Hospital Foundation Board for eight years and served as Ag president of Chamber of Commerce for many years. While he was an auctioneer, Harry volunteered his time to the Hayes and Red Willow County 4-H sales for 40 years.
In Harry’s free time he loved to watch the birds in his yard, visit with his friends on the phone, spend time in his garden growing tomatoes, and most of all he loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Robert and Floyd Eiler; and two sisters, Margaret Hurlbut and Pauline Loomis.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Beverly Eiler of McCook; two sons, W. Lamoine Eiler and wife, Lisa, of Portland, OR and Mark Eiler and wife, Kathleen, of McCook; one sister, Phyllis and husband, Dole Metcalf, of Oberlin; six grandchildren, Laci and husband, Jake Mueller, Barrett Eiler, Aaron Purvis and wife, Jill, Tony Purvis and Hollie and Erik Eiler; two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Ella Muellar; and close family friend, Marty Newcomb and wife, Barbara, of New Jersey.
Memorials were to be given in his name to the Community Health Foundation.
Funeral services were Thursday, March 27, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at Tri-State Livestock Sale Barn, McCook with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery with Military honors.

Flora M. Dutcher
Flora M. Dutcher, age 100, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
She was born in a sod house on the homestead of her parents, Austin Wilson “A. W.” and Minnie M. (Tucker) Dutcher, in Red Willow County on January 26, 1908.
She graduated from 8th grade at rural school district #71 and McCook High School in 1926. She attended “Normal Training” classes during her senior year in high school and was hired that fall for her first teaching assignment at District #68 in Hitchcock County. Thus began her 46-years of teaching. She received her Associate’s of Arts Degree from McCook Jr. College in 1936. She later graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska in 1943 and her Master’s in 1951. She taught in McCook at West Ward, North Ward, and McCook Jr. High, having been the first Principal of North Ward.
Flora retired from formal education after spending eighteen years at McCook Community College where she taught Education Courses. She held the position of Dean of Women while at the college.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church since 1924, taught Sunday school for 27 years, and kept the history of the Baptist Church. Other memberships included the American Association of University Women, Business and Professional Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the American Revolution, District 5 of Nebraska State Teachers Association and McCook Retired Teachers Association, holding offices in each.
After retiring from teaching, Flora sold Avon for 13 years. In her free time, she was an avid scrapbooker compiling many historical events of the area plus national and worldwide happenings. She also kept the family records of the Dutcher Family and enjoyed the many gatherings at the Dutcher Reunions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.W. and Minnie Dutcher; three half-brothers, Albert, Ephriam and James Dutcher and their spouses; one brother, Calvin Dutcher; four sisters, Thelma Dutcher, Mildred Newport and her husband Alvin, Edna Grieninger and her husband Frank, Elsie Fetters and her husband Theodore; brothers-in-law, Howard Malleck and Kenneth Sughroue; and sister-in-law, Loraine Dutcher.
Survivors include her two sisters Hazel Malleck and Ruth Sughroue both of Indianola and one brother, Lee Dutcher of Rolla, MO; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her church family.
Memorials were to be given to the McCook College Foundation.
Funeral services were Friday, April 25, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Allan C. Jackson, II officiating. Burial took place in Memorial Park cemetery.

Doris Lee (Stevens) Dodot
Doris Lee Dodot died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 74 years old.
Doris was born on January 30, 1934 in McCook to Leo and Grace (Woods) Stevens. She graduated from McCook High School in 1952.
On June 12, 1971, she married
Wayne L. Dodot. They made their home in McCook where Doris worked for McCook National Bank as a teller for 15 years.
She was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, crocheting and needlework.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Leo and Grace Stevens; one brother, William Stevens; and one step-son, Rodney Dodot.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Dodot of McCook; one son, Robert French of the Bahamas; step-daughter, Janet and husband, Emment Hoskins of Hemet, CA; and one step-grandson, Danny Dodot of Thornton, CO.
Memorials were to be given in her name.
Memorial services were Friday, May 9, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Mary Hendricks. Inurnment took place in St. Alban’s Columbarium.

Eugene Frederick Deleplancque
Eugene Frederick “Del” Deleplancque of McCook died January 1, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was 71 years old.
Del was born on August 27, 1936 in Dacona, Colorado to Eugene and Helen (Dieck) Deleplancque. He graduated from Longmont High School in 1954.
He retired from the United States Air Force in 1978. He also worked for Micron Technologies in Boise, Idaho. After moving to McCook in 2000, Del became owner/operator of Unique Creations by Del. His ceramic shop gave him the opportunity to use his creativity and enjoy his customers.
Del was a member of the McCook Eagles. He was a lifetime car enthusiast and an avid bowler.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include his son, Steven Deleplancque and wife, Bobbi, of Thornton, CO; daughter, Kathy “Kasi” and husband, Scott Theakston, of Grand Ledge, MI; his (babe), Patty Hall and her children, Chris Hall and Sarah and husband, Jay Williams all of McCook; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Armond Deleplancque and wife, Mickey, of Phoenix, AZ and William “Bill” Deleplancque and wife, Janice, of McCook.
Memorials were to be given in his name to the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation for the Intensive Care Unit.
Funeral services were Saturday at 10 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Pastor John Strecker-Baseler officiating.

Brad Lee Curran
Brad Lee Curran of Hayes Center died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Great Plains Regional Center in North Platte. He was 44 years old.
Brad was born on February 26, 1964 in Imperial, Nebraska to Donald Duane and Carole Kay (Leffler) Curran. He graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1982.
After graduation, Brad started farming north of Hayes Center and was farming at the time of his death. He loved his cattle and his Border Collie dogs. In his free time, he liked to hunt and spend time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Don and Helen Leffler and paternal grandparents, Elva and John Curran.
Survivors include his father Don Curran of Hayes Center; his mother Carole Curran of Hayes Center; two brothers, Dale Curran and wife, Sherry, of Holbrook and Jeremy Curran and wife, Jo, of Hayes Center; two sisters, Cherri and husband, Steve Broz and Janeen and husband, Bob Rosno all of Hayes Center; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials were to be given in his name.
Memorial services were Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hayes Center cemetery.

Merlin Alben Cook
Merlin Alben Cook of Bartley, NE died Friday, February 1, 2008 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 62 years old.
Merlin was born on August 19, 1945 in Scott City, Kansas to Wade A. and Grace E. (Wilken) Cook. He was raised on a farm northeast of Oberlin. He graduated from Decatur County High School in 1963. He continued his education in Denver, CO attending Trade School for electronics for 1 year, and in California graduating from American Truck Driving School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964 and served two terms during the Vietnam War. Then he joined the Marine Corps Reserves. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1972.
Merlin married
Tokako Yamaki in 1971 at the American Embassy, Tokyo, Japan. They divorced in 1975. To this union three daughters were born. He later married
Vickie L. Province on January 5, 1979 in Tucumcari, NM. To this union a son and a daughter were born. They eventually made their home in Bartley.
Merlin had a love for truck driving...he drove semi-trucks for over 30 years. When he drove coast to coast, he was the Trucker Buddy for Central Elementary in McCook, NE. At the time of his death, he was a truck driver for Crete Carriers in North Platte delivering to Wal-Mart stores. Before working for Crete he had driven 2 million accident free miles.
Merlin also had a love for motorcycles. While he was in Japan, he raced motocross. He had a Goldwing at the time of his death.
In his free time, Merlin enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his bike, family, and doing things outside.
Preceding him in death were his father, Wade A. Cook; father and mother-in-law, Bob L. and Neva I. Province.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie L. Cook of Bartley, NE ; four daughters, Tami, Susan, Nancy, and Cristy Cook with special friend, Joshua Laya, of Sacramento, CA; son, Wayne Cook and wife, Jenny, of North Platte; mother, Grace E. Cook of Oberlin, KS; brother, Harold Cook of Norton, KS; two sisters, Jenette Miller and friend, Sam, of Oberlin, KS and Connie and husband, Ed Quador, of Pueblo West, CO; brother-in-law Rick Province and wife, Paris, of McCook, NE and sister-in-law Brenda Province of Revena, NE; seven nephews and four nieces, many other family, numerous friends, and lots of trucker buddies. He will be dearly missed by all.

Felice C. (Carriero) Coe
Felice C. Coe, died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at El Dorado Nursing Home. She was 87 years old.
She was born, June 11, 1920 in New York City, New York to Angelo (Charles) and Catherine (Celantano) Carriero.
She graduated from Teaneck, New Jersey High School in 1938.
She married
William L. Coe in New York City on December 27, 1941.
She moved to McCook in June of 1999. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook, and a past member of the Columbiettes.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William; parents; brother, Leonard Carriero; and a sister Mai Graham.
Survivors include sons, William and wife, Judy of Max, and John and wife, Veronica of Williamsburg, Kentucky; daughter, Kathryn and husband, Chip Etier of Maggie Valley, NC; brother, William and wife, Dorothy of Grand Rapids, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Melba E. Stafford of Salinas, California, Alta J. Hester of Lincoln, and Anita Coe of Mentone, California; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, January 24, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial in Calvary cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family had requested donations to the Alzheimer’s foundation.
