Dolores Mesta
The funeral for Dolores M. Mesta, 67, of Schuyler will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler.
She died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Dolores Hagelstien was born Nov. 3, 1936, in Randolph to Herman and Verl Hagelstien of Osmond.
Survivors include: a daughter, Roseanne Christian of Fremont; two sisters, Crystal (Mrs. Darrell) Theisen of Osmond and Jane Hagelstien of Norfolk; four brothers, Earl Hagelstien, Jack Hagelstien and Dale Hagelstien, all of Omaha, and Dean Hagelstien of Columbus; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Dan Medina of Schuyler.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Elder Connie Montgomery from Fremont Community of Christ will officiate Thursdays service. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Edward Neesen
The funeral for Edward A. Neesen, 87, of Schuyler will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Marys Catholic Church in Schuyler.
He died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Davids Place Nursing Home in David City.
He was born Dec. 1, 1916, in Cuming County (West Point area) to Joseph and Theresa (Renner) Neesen. He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School at Aloys, rural West Point. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 10, 1942, to June 17, 1945, and was involved in the African and European campaigns. He married
Martha Kuzel on Feb. 12, 1946, in Heun, rural Clarkson. His wife preceded him in death Nov. 13, 1998. He farmed in the Dublin area of Colfax County until 2003. He had been a resident of Davids Place Nursing Home since April 2003.
He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Schuyler Knights of Columbus, Catholic Workman, Schuyler Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include: three sons, Edward J. (and wife, Louann) Neesen of Rogers, John J. (and wife, Betty) Neesen of Silver Spring, Md., Frank (and wife, Cynthia) Neesen of David City; two sisters-in-law, Johanna Neesen and Margaret Neesen, both of West Point; a brother-in-law, Joe Kuzel of Schuyler; eight grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
He also was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
The Rev. Gerald Leise will officiate Saturdays service. Visitation will be from noon to 5:30 p.m. Friday at Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel in Schuyler and from 6:30-8 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue from 8:30-10:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A St. Marys Guild rosary will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A combined parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Schuyler cemetery with military honors by McLeod Post 47 of the American Legion and Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the VFW.
Raymond Von Seggern
The funeral for Raymond H. Von Seggern, 87, of Scribner will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Johns Ridgeley Lutheran Church in rural Scribner.
He died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 25, 1916, in rural Hooper to Fred Von Seggern and Anna (Poppe) Von Seggern. He attended District 60 School in rural Dodge County. He married
Almira C. (Tienken) Von Seggern on Feb. 11, 1945, at United Lutheran Church in Scribner. He farmed south of Scribner from 1947-83 when he retired and moved into Scribner. He had lived in the Scribner and Hooper area for his entire life. His wife preceded him in death Jan. 11, 1996.
He was a member of St. Johns Ridgeley Lutheran Church in rural Scribner and was active in the Lutheran Brotherhood. He also was a former member of St. Johns Lutheran Church on the County Line, where he was baptized on Oct. 29, 1916, and confirmed in 1931.
Survivors include: two sons, Roger (and wife, Judy) of Scribner and Stanley of Fremont; three brothers, twin brother, Rolland of Oakland, Orville (and wife, Volline) of Omaha and Duane (and wife, Lorna) of Arlington; two sisters, Anita (Mrs. Kenneth) Dahl of Scribner and Dorothy Clausen of Fremont; two sisters-in-law, Alverta Voss of Fremont and Shirley Von Seggern of Hooper; five grandchildren, Scott (and wife, Angie) Von Seggern of Fremont, Becky (Mrs. James) Lynn of Jewel, Iowa, Marty Von Seggern of Scribner, Tracie Von Seggern of Fremont and Barb Von Seggern of Scribner; and two great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Alex Von Seggern of Fremont.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Art and Vernon.
Vicar Dr. Nicki McIntyre will officiate Fridays service. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Thursday at Spear-Johnson Funeral Home in Scribner with a prayer service at 7 p.m., officiated by Lt. Col. Lyle Von Seggern. Burial will be in St. Johns cemetery in rural Scribner.
Pall bearers will be Dennis Von Seggern, Marlyn Peters, Lowell Peters, Doug Von Seggern, Rodney Dahl, Scott Von Seggern, Marty Von Seggern and James Lynn. Honorary pall bearers will be Becky Lynn, Tracie Von Seggern, Barb Von Seggern, Angie Von Seggern, Carlton Paschall and Gordon Hultquist.
Memorials have been established to Scribner Rescue Squad and St. Johns Ridgeley Lutheran Church.
Bruno Batenhorst
The funeral for Bruno C. Batenhorst, 76, of Blair, formerly of West Point, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Marys Catholic Church in West Point.
He died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Crowell Nursing Home in Blair.
He was born Dec. 10, 1927, on the family farm north of West Point to Bernard J. "Ben" and Elizabeth Hunke Batenhorst. At age 4, he moved with his family into West Point where he attended Guardian Angels School, graduating in 1944. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard from June 1945 until May 1946, and was stationed in Greenland. He married
Lorene Schultz on Sept. 27, 1950, in West Point. The couple lived in West Point, Beemer and Tilden where he worked for the natural gas company, Minnegasco. In 1973, he was transferred to Blair, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of St. Francis Borga Catholic Church in Blair and the Blair American Legion Post. He was a past Lions and Blair Chamber of Commerce member. He also served as a volunteer fireman.
Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Bonita Lambrecht of Norfolk and Beverly (Mrs. Randall) Ashland of Blair; two sons, Boyd of Tilden and Bryan of Lincoln; five sisters, Gert (Mrs. Les) Wiegert of Beemer, Mary Ann (Mrs. Jack) Tomrdle of Wisner, Wilma (Mrs. Jerry) Lane of Lake City, Minn., Evelyn Collins of West Point and Margaret (Mrs. Larry) Arter of Norfolk; a brother, Chris (and wife, Dorothy) of West Point; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Batenhorst of Gering; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.

Oliver Prinz
Oliver M. Prinz, 72, of Eugene, Ore., formerly of West Point, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, in Eugene.
He was born March 23, 1932, in West Point to John and Terese (Stalp) Prinz. He attended school at Guardian Angels in West Point and graduated from Creighton University in Omaha. He owned and operated Good News Shop, a religious goods store in Eugene for several years.
He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Eugene where he was active in prayer ministry.
Survivors include two brothers, Donald of Sacramento, Calif., and Marvin of West Point.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Marys Catholic Church in West Point with the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Stalp Funeral Home in West Point. Burial will be in St. Michaels cemetery in West Point.
A memorial has been established to Mount Angel Abbey at St. Benedict, Ore.
Marie Woita
Marie M. Woita, 93, of Weston died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo.
She was born Nov. 26, 1910, near Weston to Frank and Mary (Cerv) Dolezal. She attended Rural District 28 School near Weston and Wahoo High School. She married
Leon A. Woita on June 28, 1932, in Weston. Her husband preceded her in death Nov. 17, 1974.
She was an active member of the Rosary Society and St. John Catholic Church.
Survivors include: a daughter-in-law, Arvella Woita of Wahoo; a sister-in-law, Adelia Dolezal of Wahoo; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son, six brothers and two sisters.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Weston. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial will be in St. John cemetery.
Jennifer and Madison Burns
Jennifer Ann Burns, 24, of Dodge, her daughter, Madison Anne Burns, 17 months, and her unborn child died as the result of a traffic accident on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, west of Scribner on U.S. Highway 275.
Jennifer was born July 18, 1980, in Omaha to Billy and Diane (Damicus) Hubbell. Her earlier years were lived in Omaha, Colon, Fremont and Leshara. She graduated from Heartland Christian School in Fremont, then attended Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa, for a year, followed by three years at the Oklahoma Baptist Bible College in Oklahoma City.
On Sept. 23, 2000, she married
Marshall Z. Burns in Fremonts Liberty Baptist Church. Jennifer and Marshall both taught in a Christian school in Coggon, Iowa, during the 2003-04 school year. They were now in the process of moving to Dodge from Coggon.
Madison was born March 16, 2003, in Oklahoma City to Jennifer and Marshall.
Survivors include: Jennifers husband and Madisons father, Marshall Burns; Jennifers parents, Bill and Diane Hubbell of Yutan; Jennifers sister, Stephanie Hubbell of the Yutan home; Jennifers three brothers, Billy (and wife, Kristin) Hubbell of Arlington and Michael and Jonathan Hubbell of the Yutan home; Jennifers grandmother and Madisons great-grandmother, Peggy Hubbell of Fremont; Marshalls parents, Neil and Cindy Burns of Fremont; Marshalls brother, Zach (and wife, Alissa) Burns of Oklahoma; Marshalls sister, Neilea Burns of Fremont; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Baptist Church in Fremont with the Rev. Roger Luiken officiating. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Lowell Havekost
The funeral for Lowell G. Havekost, 75, of Scribner will be today at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont.
He died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
He was born March 7, 1929, in Scribner to William and Sophie (Witt) Havekost. He grew up in Scribner and attended District 12 School through the 10th grade. He was a 1946 graduate of Scribner High School and attended Commercial Extension Business College at Omaha for two years. He lived in Omaha and worked for Union Pacific Railroad until entering the U.S. Army on Dec. 11, 1950. He served during the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and United Nations Service Medal. He was discharged on Dec. 4, 1952. He returned to work for Union Pacific Railroad and was a statistician for the passenger and freight traffic department. He retired in 1990 after 43 years. He then did volunteer work at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. He moved to Fremont in 1996 and lived in Scribner.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont and a former member of Morning Star Lutheran Church in Omaha. He sang in the choir at both churches. He was a former member of American Legion Post at Ralston.
Survivors include a brother, Arden (and wife, Georgean) Havekost of Scribner.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister-in-law.
The Revs. Michael Thomas and Delvin Hutton will officiate Saturdays service. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of Scribner American Legion Post 121. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. today at Scribner cemetery in Scribner.
Memorials have been established to the church, The Lutheran Hour and the Parkinsons Disease Foundation.
LaVerne Marquardt
LaVerne W. Marquardt, 82, of Hooper died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Hooper Care Center.
He was born Nov. 2, 1921, on the family farm in Hooper to Elberth and Elsie (Niebaum) Marquardt. He grew up in the Hooper area and moved to Fremont in 1928. In 1931, he and his family moved back to the Hooper/Telbasta area. He graduated from Hooper High School in 1939. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He served as an airplane mechanic during World War II in the Burma and India theaters until returning to Hooper in 1946. In Hooper, he continued to farm until moving to Hooper Care Center in 2002. While he farmed, he also played in the Scribner and North Bend community bands.
He married
Dorothy Woodman on Dec. 22, 1963, in Fremont. She preceded him in death Dec. 17, 1997.
He also served on the Dodge County Board of Supervisors and was a 35-year member of the Rural Fire Board. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 18 in Hooper and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7419 in Nickerson.
Survivors include two brothers, Quentin (and wife, Ramona) Marquardt of Hooper and Myron (and wife, Fumiko) Marquardt of Silver Springs, Md.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper with the Rev. Steve Tjarks officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 2-4 p.m. Burial will be in Hooper cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 18 Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
