James Standley
James Standley II, 44, died last Wednesday.
He was born Feb. 22, 1971, to James and Terry (Murray) Standley in Wichita, He graduated from Augusta High School in 1990. He worked as a bus driver for School District 402. James was an avid Star Wars fan and enjoyed games and bowling.
Survivors include his parents, James and Terry Standley; and a brother, Jeff Standley, all of Augusta.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene Murray, Elizabeth Murray and Stan and Maxine Standley..
His funeral was held Monday at the Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.
Wanda Farrand
Former Webber area resident, Wanda Ileene (Davidson) Farrand, 84, died Thursday at the Mary Lanning hospital.
Her funeral was held Monday at the First United Methodist Church at Harvard with the Rev. Travis King officiating. Burial was in the Harvard cemetery.
Wanda was born in Webber on Dec. 21, 1930, to Doshia (Nichols) and Ernest Davidson. She grew up in a family of seven children. A baby sister, Darlene, died after the family experienced a bout with scarlet fever in 1934.
When Wanda was in the third grade her family moved to Republic where her father continued to work for Standard Oil, as a rural delivery truck driver. She and her brother, David, spent many happy summer hours riding along on his gasoline deliveries.
The next year the family moved to Superior where Wanda found many lifetime friends, joined the Baptist Church, and completed her education.
During her high school years she worked as a "Soda Jerk" and also clerked in the Hested's store. Following graduation, she was employed s as a telephone operator.
On July 2, 1949, Wanda married
her high school sweetheart, Clarence Farrand. Clarence was just back from serving in the Army and was starting employment with the Burlington Railroad. For the next few years his employment took them to Ravenna, Lincoln, Grand Island and Crete. While living in Lincoln, their two sons were born: John and James. After moving to the small town of Garland, they then moved to Harvard in 1957. This remained their home. In 1958 a daughter, Mary Beth, was born. They joined the Zion E.U.B. Church, which later united with the Methodist Church.
Wanda was a faithful church member serving in many positions through the years, including teaching Sunday School. This was an important part of her life. Other community activities included being a Cub Scouts den mother, a mother advisor for Rainbow Girls, a worthy matron for the Order Eastern Star, a member of The Farmerette's Club and several Bible study groups.
Wanda was employed as a para-educator for Harvard Public School and Educational Service Unit 9 from 1970 to 1991. Helping children was an important part of her life. She was a volunteer at Harvard Rest Haven and Harvard House. She also delivered Meals on Wheels and was a substitute librarian at the Harvard Library. Wanda also volunteered with CASA.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Clarence; a son, James; four sisters, Darlene Davidson, Ruby Robbins, Betty Johanson and Opal Johanson; and two brothers, Jim Davidson and David Davidson.
Survivors include her son, John, of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Mrs. Steve Carriker (Mary) of Clay Center, Neb.; daughter-in-law, LeeAnn Farrand of Aurora, Neb.; brother-in-law, Don Johanson, of Superior; sisters-in-law: Ruby Farrand, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Elaine Davidson, of Carrollton, Miss., and Helen Davidson of Augusta, Ga.; grandsons Joel Farrand of Charlotte, N.C., Corey Carriker of Rogers, Minn., Jared Carriker of Norfolk, Jamie Farrand of Hastings and A.J. Farrand of Aurora, Neb.; granddaughters, Mrs. Devis Sinani (Sara) of Olathe, Kan., Dana Farrand of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Chad Dewey (Karla) of Gretna, Mrs. Pete Younker (Kimber) of Meriden, Iowa, and Abbie Farrand of Omaha, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bud Wickman
Francis Wendell "Bud" Wickman, 88, the son of Tressie Sarah (Francis) and Bernard Wichmann, was born Sept. 8, 1927, at Guide Rock. He died Friday at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud.
A lifelong resident of the Guide Rock community, Bud received his formal education attending the Guide Rock schools and graduated with the Class of 1945. With the country in the midst of World War II, Bud enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. At war's end he returned to the Guide Rock area where he worked on a harvest crew and later as a lineman with the rural electric company. He was also employed with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. Bud was called back to duty by his country during the Korean Conflict. He served in the United States Army 7th Cavalry from Jan. 16, 1951, until Dec. 24, 1952. He received the Purple Heart and three bronze combat stars and a number of other commendations for his service.
On June 24, 1953, he was united in marriage with Helen Mae Brezina at Guide Rock. This union was blessed with three children, Mike, Lisa and Laura. They made their home on the farm southwest of Guide Rock where he farmed and raised cattle. Bud was happiest when he was working the land and with his cattle on the farm. His leisure time was filled by working in his garden, raising roses, refinishing furniture and planting his orchard. In later years he helped Helen gather information for the family's genealogy research.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Helen, on Aug. 26, 2011; and a sister, Kathleen Wickman White. Survivors include his children, Laura Ann Wickman of Guide Rock, Mrs. Leo Delka (Lisa) of Doniphan, and Mike Wickman of Lees Summit, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jerad and Chad Wickman, and Thomas and Trevor Delka; and a great-grandchild, Raelynn Jo Wickman.
Private family services were scheduled with burial in the Guide Rock cemetery.
Jean Henry
Eula Jean Henry, 90, the youngest child of Florance (Wilson) and Irving Bowman, was born Jan. 10, 1925, at Guide Rock. She died Thursday at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
A lifelong resident of Webster County, Jean graduated from the Guide Rock High School. Following her graduation, she was employed at the local grocery store. On Jan. 11, 1945, she was united in marriage with Lyle Lavern Henry at Mankato. They made their home in the Guide Rock community where she dedicated her life as a homemaker. This union was blessed with eight children, Karen Lea, Wanda Kay, Lila Ann, Leslie Lavern, Lois Jean, Shery Lynn, Dallas Wynn and Delera Jo.
Jean liked to bake a variety of foods from scratch. She enjoyed attending club meetings, reading recipes and attending church with her family and friends. She liked animals, especially her dogs. She relaxed by planting flowers and playing cards with family and friends.
In her later years she moved to Parkview Circle in Red Cloud. She moved to the Heritage Care Center in August of 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son; one grandson; and her husband, Lyle. Survivors include her children, Mrs. Richard Armstrong (Karen), Wanda Duval, Mrs. Allen Keen (Lila), Mrs. Danny Gouldie (Lois), Sheryl Matson, Deb Garrett, and Dallas Henry; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great -grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Hobbs.
Her funeral was held Wednesday at the Wesleyan Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Interment was in the Guide Rock cemetery.
Mary Jane Mohler
Mary Jane Mohler, 84, the daughter of William and Wilma (Smith) Andrews, was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Mankato, Kan. She died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at her home in Superior, Neb.
Mary Jane attended Gregory, Kachley and Lovewell grade schools and graduated from Formoso High School. She was a 10-year member of Grace Community Evangelical Free Church in Superior.
On June 4, 1950, she was united in marriage to Vernon Mohler at the Formoso Community Church. This union was blessed with five children. Mary Jane liked to cook and keep a nice house. She worked for older people, who needed her help, she loved babies and doing things for others, she had a kind heart. Her hobbies included crafts of all sorts, and she had a doll collection.
She was a member of 4-H, and a twin mother's club. She was previously employed as a cook by the Superior Good Samaritan Society and the Vestey Center and volunteered at the Nifty Thrifty. She was a Sunday School Teacher.
Throughout her lifetime, Mary Jane lived lived in the Kansas communities of Mankato, Kachley, Lovewell, Formoso, Hays, Garden City and Agra, and Superior, Neb.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Arlen; and brothers, William Jay and Marvin Max; a brother-in-law, Ken Fricke; and great granddaughter Lauryn Trautman.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon, of Superior; children, Verna Nott and husband, Ron, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wendell Mohler and wife, Susan, of Kankakee, Ill., Jocelyn Shroyer and husband, Steve, of Superior, and Jacalyn Trautman and husband, Lyle, of Hoskins, Neb.; 10 grandchildren, Troy Bauer and wife, Christine, Tami and husband, Pat, Stalnaker, Tabitha Mohler, William Mohler and wife, Jennifer, Trenton Trautman and wife, Laura, Levi Trautman and wife, Andrea, Nathan Trautman and wife, Nicole, Blake Barry, Phillip Barry and wife, Sara, Clint Shroyer and fiance, Jeanel Jurgensmier; 22 great-grandchildren, Kady and Christopher Bauer, Cory, Kaleigh and Justin Robinson, Julia Mohler, Lucy Roberts, Cassidy, Alexis and Taylor Mohler, Cailyn and Cayce Barry, Tarissa, Dean and Adalynn Barry, Jason and Torie Trautman, Graycen, Ashlyn and Brooklyn Trautman, Fayte and Bastian Trautman; one great-great-granddaughter, Cambria Burke; a sister, Alicia Fricke of Lawrence, Kan.,; sisters-in-law, Carole Andrews of Cheney, Kan., Mona Hoard of Oxford, Neb., Marian Turner of Hastings, Neb., and Eva Wiley of Cawker City, Kan.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) Oct. 8, 2015, at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor David Johnson officiating.
Music will be "What A Day That Will Be," "A New Name In Glory," and "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone," with Marsha Cline as the soloist and Carlita Price as the organist.
Visitation was held on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9 a..m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Troy Bauer, William Mohler, Trent Trautman, Levi Trautman, Nathan Trautman, Blake Barry, Phillip Barry and Clint Shroyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Tamera Stalnaker, Tabitha Mohler and Pat Stalnaker.
Interment will be in the Balch cemetery at Formoso, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to go to Grace Community Evangelical Free Church or the American Diabetes Association.

Evelyn McMahon
Evelyn L. McMahon 97, died Monday at Perkins Pavilion in the Good Samaritan Village, Hastings, Neb. Her funeral will be held at a later date. Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud will be in charge of the arrangements.
Evelyn was born at Red Cloud to Miner and Hazel (Lippincott) Kent on Jan. 11, 1918. She was the oldest of five daughters.
On May 30, 1941, Evelyn married
Chester Clark McMahon in Little Rock, Ark. They had two children, James Thomas and Janis Kay McMahon.
Evelyn liked all things of nature. She was artistic and liked to paint, sew, take photos, golf, play cards and have fun times with family and friends. Clark and Evelyn spent many years camping and fishing, going between homes in Red Cloud, Hastings and Edinburg, Texas. During her working years, Evelyn was employed at the Webster County Courthouse in the extension, clerk and treasurer's offices. The pride of her career was being the bookkeeper for Delbert Lewis and his many businesses and farms.
Evelyn was a member of First United Methodist Church, Red Cloud, and Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clark in 2001; sisters: Ardys Miksch, Marjorie Nowack and Kathleen Atteberry; along with all of her brothers.
Survivors include her son, James McMahon of Florence, Ore.; daughter, Mrs. John Fern (Janis) of Glenvil; grandsons, James Fern of Hastings, Jamison and Cooper Fern of Staplehurst; sister, Mildred Peterson of Phoenix, Ariz.
Gabriel Sterba
Gabriel Matthew John Sterba, son of Daniel and Tracy (Rodenbarger) Sterba of Mead, was stillborn on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Survivors also include: two sisters, Danielle and Michelle Sterba of Mead; two brothers, Ryan and Brandon Sterba of Mead; and grandparents, Orrin and Francies Sterba of Omaha and Shirley Rodenbarger of Bellevue.
The graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Morningside cemetery in Mead with the Rev. Lyle Person officiating.

Betty Eyer
Betty M. Eyer, 77, of Fremont died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont.

Phyllis Esslinger died Monday at Salina Regional Health Center. Vigil will be held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Mankato, today (Thursday) at 7 p.m. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Theresa's Catholic cemetery.
Eugene Kumm
The funeral for Eugene Kumm, 25, of San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of Fremont, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.
He died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, in San Bernardino.
