Robert Schiermeyer
Robert Duane Schiermeyer, 76. the son of Fred and Elsie (Grummert) Schiermeyer, was born Feb. 6, 1938, on a farm northwest of Superior. He died December last Wednesday at the Superior Good Samaritan Center after a long battle with Parkinson's.
Robert was one of five children. He attended Fairview School and graduated from Nelson High School with the Class of 1956. He was a lifelong member of the Salem Lutheran Church north of Superior. He was inducted into the Mankato National Guard Unit in September of 1961. Bob farmed the family farm north of Superior. He raised hogs and cattle and grew crops until his Parkinson disease took over in 1991.
He was united in marriage to Sharon Soukop on Sept. 2, 1962. This union was blessed with three sons, Curtis, Allen and Brian. Together they raised their family on the farm north of Superior where Sharon still resides. He served as a church council member and past treasurer and was a Luther League sponsor. He was involved with 4-H and was a former leader. He served many years on the rural fireman's board taking care of the books. He enjoyed bowling, square dancing and was an avid card player. For many years he enjoyed the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eleanor; brother, Glen; and grandson, Kalen Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of the home; sons, Curtis and Allen of Nelson and Brian of St. Joseph, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kendra and Eric Schiermeyer of Nelson, Brandon and Collin Schiermeyer of St. Joseph, Mo., Amy McGee and Tony Jetensky of Nelson; four great-grandchildren; Makenna, Aiden and Trevin McGee of Superior, and Riley Pedersen of Hastings; a sister, Fern Anderson, Lake Crystal, Minn.; a brother, Verlin, of Simi Valley, Calif.
His funeral was held on Saturday at the Salem Lutheran Church with Pastors Don and Margaret Olsen officiating.
Pallbearers were Dennis Schier-meyer, Troy Laluk, Terry Laluk, Eric Schiermeyer, Brandon Schiermeyer and Tony Jetensky. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne and Verona Gumaer, Kenneth and Lois Hamel, Arnold and Kathy Essink, Glen and Carol Mueller, Alfred and Janell Hanson and Dwight and Bev Frost.
Interment with full military rites conducted the Nelson American Legion Post was in the Evergreen cemetery at Superior.

Donna Adcock
Donna Maureen Adcock, 96, the daughter of Hamer and Mabel (Boomer) Adcock, was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Davenport. She died Dec. 13 at the Fairport Baptist Home at Fairport, N.Y.
Donna grew up in Nora, graduating from Nora High School. She attended Hastings College and graduated from the State University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in sociology. She earned a master's degree in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota.
Donna was a teacher, high school counselor in Kansas City and Connecticut, an executive with the Nebraska State YWCA, director of the Iowa University YWCA, and program executive for the Kansas City, Missouri YWCA. She was initiated into Chapter BB, New York in 1986.
She had many special interests including theatre, concerts, reading, handwork, traveling, bridge and other games. Families were important and she cherished their pictures and stories. She was a member of the PEO and was an active member in her church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marquerite.
Survivors include her brother, Dale Adcock, of Superior, and a sister Mrs. Richard Clements (Joyce) of Fairport, N.Y.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Davenport City cemetery with Rev. Dr. Jocelyn Tupper officiating.
Inurnment will be in the Davenport City cemetery.

Diane Bartling
Diane Carol Bartling, 75, of Deshler, the daughter of Herbert and Mildred (Buresh) Brettmann was born Aug. 8, 1939, in Hebron She died last Monday at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler.
Diane grew up in the Deshler area graduating with the class of 1956. After high school, Diane attended Fairbury Junior College for two years finishing at the University of Nebraska. She graduated in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in education. Her first teaching job was in Hershey, followed by Davenport and Peace Lutheran School in Deshler. In 1976 she left teaching to help her husband Stanley in his construction business.
During this time she obtained her real estate broker's license. In the early 1990s, Diane and her husband, Stan, started Bartling Real Estate and Insurance operating the business together. She retired in 2010 because of her health.
She married
Stanley Bartling on June 18, 1961, at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters. Diane was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed as a child. She was in the choir, on the church council and calling committee when Pastor Phil Nielsen was hired. She taught children and adult Bible study, she loved her church and enjoyed working for God. She was also active in the community serving as chamber of commerce president, a member of the Deshler Centennial Committee and Thayer County Queen Committee.
She had many hobbies including bowling, golf, playing cards, entertaining and socializing in the Red Hat Society. She was a great mom and grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband,Stanley. Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. Jim Fuelberth (Heather) of Rochester, Minn., and Mrs. Brian Isernhagen (Heidi) of Deshler; one sister, Mrs. Lyle Pitts (Beverly) of Deshler; grandchildren Molly and Nicholas Fuelberth of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Brandon Gehle (Hailey) of Chester, and Braelyn and Jayden Isernhagen of Deshler; and a great-granddaughter, Kailyn Gehle.
Her funeral was held Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler. Pastor George Lautner officiated. Burial was in Deshler City cemetery.

Betty Kronberg
Betty Jane Kronberg, 92, the daughter of Edward and Freida (Smith) Howe was born Sept. 29, 1922, at Beatrice. She died Sunday at Trinity Care Center in Farmington, Minn.
Betty married
Donald Kronberg on Jan. 20, 1945, at Rapid City, S.D. To this union three children were born. After Don's release from active duty with the U.S. Navy, they relocated to Superior, where he owned and operated Superior Motor Parts. Betty worked as the store's bookkeeper for many years.
Betty lived in Superior through May, 2005. She moved to Omaha for three years and then to Minnesota for her remaining years to be closer to family. Betty's nick name ,"Mrs. Claus," was given to her in recognition of her caring and generosity to others, especially during the holiday season. Betty was active in the Superior community. She had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Brodstone Memorial Hospital Board for two terms, the Superior Country Club and many bridge clubs. She also enjoyed bowling and was a long time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Survivors include her children: Bruce Kronberg of Cordova, Tenn. Mrs. Rick Kubler (Dianne) of Columbus, Neb., and Mrs. Gregg Fitzer (Laurie) of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildern.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior. Father Brad Zitek will be the officiant. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.

Curtis Watson
Curtis E. Watson, 92, of Red Cloud, died Saturday, at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud. His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dan Albers officiating. Interment will be in the Red Cloud cemetery.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. John Phillips (Pat), Omaha; a son, Jack Watson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; granddaughters, Mrs. Les Delka (Jennifer) Lincoln, Neb., Carolyn Phillips, Santa Fe, N.M. and Julia Phillips , Scottsdale, Ariz.

Elsie Penney
Elsie Campbell Penney, 93, formerly of Superior, died last Tuesday at Fairbury. Elsie was born in Schneverdingen, Germany on Feb. 23, 1921, to William and Meta [Bohling] Kuehne. Elsie had two younger sisters, Adina Mason and Eileen Eickmann.
Elsie attended a rural Byron school until the eighth grade. Because of the economic conditions of the 1930s, she had to quit school and work to help support the family.
On Oct. 9, 1941, Elsie married
Roy Campbell of rural Byron. To this marriage one son, Jerry, was born on October 11, 1943. Roy and Elsie ran a grocery store in Byron before moving to Ruskin in 1949. At Ruskin they started Ruskin Produce, picking up farmer's eggs, cream, and chickens. After large dairies and cage laying chickens took over that industry, Roy started Ruskin Insurance and Elsie went to work in Superior where she worked for several physicians and a tire store before retiring at age 65.
Roy and Elsie moved to a new home in Superior in 1980 and Elsie pursued her hobbies of golf, sewing and card playing. Roy died June 23, 1984 after suffering from Alzheimers for several years.
Even after moving to Superior Elsie continued her faith in God and went to Ruskin to Bethany Lutheran Church almost every Sunday until she could no longer drive.
Elsie found the love of her life on the golf course, and she married
him, Lee Penney, on Aug. 16, 1986. Lee and Elsie golfed, played cards and traveled to Alaska, Austria, Germany and many other places. She even got to see Ellis Island, where she and her parents came through in 1923.
Lee died on Feb, 15, 1998, after being struck by an automobile while he was on foot. Neither Lee nor the driver of the vehicle saw each other before the accident.
Elsie finally had to go to long term care and died with her son by her side at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury.
Survivors include her son, Jerry, of Fairbury; a sister, Eileen Eickmann of Superior; two granddaughters Trini Hendricks of Omaha, and Tiffany Butcher of Lincoln, Neb.; grandchildren, Tanner Hendricks, Jayden Martin, Logan Hendricks, Jace Butcher and Reece Hendricks.
Her funeral was held Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin with Pastor Stuart Sell officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Williams Funeral Home of Superior was is in charge of the arrangements.
Antoinette Sabatka
The funeral for Antoinette Sabatka, 94, of Lincoln, formerly of Weston, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Weston.
She died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo.
Antoinette Svoboda was born May 26, 1909, near Weston. She attended District 118 School and Weston High School. Her husband, Charles E. Sabatka, preceded her in death in July 13, 1966. She had lived in Lincoln since 1960.
She was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lincoln.
Survivors include: a son, Alden (and wife, Marcie) Sabatka of Valparaiso; a daughter, Bernice (Mrs. John) Hegel of Lincoln; two sisters, Rose Whisman and Margie Schultz, both of Lincoln; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
The Rev. Rand Langhorst will officiate Thursdays service. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and continues one hour prior to service time at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John cemetery in Weston.
Memorials have been established to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Saunders County Care Center.
Maggie Mosier
Margie Ailene (Nelson) Mosier, 93, of Davenport died last Wednesday at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron. She was born two miles east of Verona, Neb., on April 9, 1921, the daughter of James and Josephine (Anderson) Nelson. Margie attended The Little Church on The Hill, west of Verona. She attended a two-room school in Verona through the tenth grade and graduated from Sutton High School.
After graduation she taught the Logan Center school west of Ong. She married
Marvin Mosier on May 20, 1939, in Belleville. To this union five children were born. All of their children were baptized, confirmed and married
in Christ's Lutheran Church.
Margie and Marvin lived on two different farms near Sedan and retired in Davenport in 1977. Margie was a member of Christ's Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the Eastern Star Chapter 268. She taught Sunday School and was a 4-H Club leader.
Survivors include her children, Mrs. Richard Mellos (Marlys), Fall River, Mass., Mrs. Jim Bounds (Leanna) Corpus Christi, Texas, Wesley Mosier of Edgar and Julie Mosier of Kearney; grandchildren, David Walker of Fowlerville, Mich., Debra Fordyce of Grass Valley, Calif., Duane Walker of Fenton, Mich., Natasha Bounds of Madison, Wisc., Philip Mosier of Richmond, Va., Joshua Mosier of Deshler, Mrs. Steve Chesser (Alicia) of Tulsa, Okla., Ryan Pace of Kearney, Mrs. Doug Amend (Amanda) of Kearney, and Derrick Pace of Omaha; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2010; a son, Wayne Mosier; brother, Curtis Nelson; and a sister, Fern Penner. Her funeral was held Monday at Christ's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kristen Van Stee officiating. Burial was in the Davenport City cemetery. Charles Hanzlick
Charles B. (Bud) Hanzlick, 82, died in Belleville last Thursday. He was born to Charles and Odessa (Murphy) Hanzlick in Belleville on March 20, 1932. He graduated from Belleville High School in 1950. He was united in marriage to Patricia Larson on Jan. 6, 1957. To this union were born four children, Carla, David, Charlene and Matthew. Following high school, Bud served in the U.S. Army in Europe patrolling the then West German border with Czechoslovakia. He also took the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe.
Bud work as a switchman on the Rock Island Railroad and subsequently on the Kyle Railroad. In an encore career, he crafted rustic furniture from Osage Orange wood. He and Pat sold his work across the country.
Bud served on the Belleville City Council, was a past commander of his American Legion Post, and was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his daughters, Carla Roeder of Belleville, Mrs. Mike Smith (Charlene) of Danville, Kan.: a son, David of Overland Park, five grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob and Bethany Knipp, Margaret Hanzlick-Burton and Amelia Hanzlick; two step-grandchildren, Bryce and Kathryn Smith.
A celebration of Bud's life will be held from 3 to 4:30 on Sunday at the Dinner Bell Cafe in downtown Belleville.
Robert Scoles
The funeral for Robert O. Scoles, 75, of Blair, formerly of Mead, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alma Lutheran Church in Mead.
He died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Immanuel Fontanelle Home in Omaha.
Scoles was born June 22, 1928, on the family farm in Riverton, Iowa. The family lost the farm during the Depression and moved into Riverton. Sometime later they moved to Mead and opened up a service station on the edge of town and stayed there. He went to high school in Mead and played basketball and softball. He graduated in 1946. He married
Viola Widman on March 28, 1949, in Mead. They moved into the house next to the filling station where he worked in a partnership with his father and brother, Henry. Later, he sold the gas station and worked as a salesman for a petroleum company and also became a lobbyist for Nebraska Petroleum Companies. During the 1970s, he went to work in Fremont as the service manager for Goodyear Tires, and then in Omaha as the service manager for Tires Inc.
Throughout his life, he was active in Alma Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, in the choir and as superintendent of the Sunday school. Some of his community involvements included organizing both the 4-H Club and the Mead Centennial Horse Show. He also worked with the Lutheran Laity Movement out of Chicago as a parish ministry associate. Through the years, he helped many churches through the country conduct successful stewardship drives. He retired from the Laity Movement when his wife became ill with Lou Gehrigs Disease in 1998. He remained at home to be his wifes primary caregiver. His wife preceded him in death June 15, 2002.
He married
Joyce Graybill on July 26, 2003, in Blair. He was diagnosed with cancer in October 2003 and moved to Immanuel Fontanelle Home in Omaha where he remained until his death.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce; a son, Robert D. of Herndon, Va.; two daughters, Paula (Mrs. Jeff) Chostner of Pueblo, Colo., and Cheryl (Mrs. Paul) Jakubowski of Cincinnati, Ohio; a stepson, Mark (and wife, Paula) Graybill of Westlake Village, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Nancy (Mrs. David) Pares of Omaha; a sister, Eletha Beam of Elkhorn; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
The Rev. Kenneth Jensen will officiate Saturdays service. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial will be in Alma Lutheran cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the PMA Program at Alma Lutheran Church and the Stephens Ministry at St. Johns Lutheran Church.
