Pearle M. Holsten
Pearle M. Holsten, 95, formerly of Omaha, died Aug. 19, 2001, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.
She was born April 23, 1906, at Shickley to Claus and Clara Venell Johnson. She grew up in Shickley, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Immanuel School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She later took post-graduate studies in pediatrics at Western Reserve in Cleveland. She worked in pediatrics at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
On Nov. 22, 1931, she married Clarence A. Holsten at Omaha. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1990. She moved to North Platte in 1992.
Mrs. Holsten was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Omaha and a past member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her family, faith and friends were the most important aspects in her life.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley (Dwight) Larson of North Platte; a son, Robert D. (Mary) of Carmel, Ind.; a brother, Edwin (Flossie) Johnson of Shickley; seven grandchildren, Leanne Elder, Jeff Holsten, Sara Clark, Jane Poulter, Stacy Hutson, Sandra Gray and Alison Klepinger; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Amelia Johnson; a sister, Ethel Benson; and three brothers, Rueben and Lynn and infant Dwight.
Memorials may be given to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2025 E. River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55414.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Nathan Wadewitz of First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
Further services will be in Omaha, with visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Westlawn Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, 57th and Center in Omaha. Burial will be at 4 p.m.

Kenneth E. Johnson
OGALLALA - Kenneth E. Johnson, 77, of Ogallala died Aug. 18, 2001, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Survivors include three daughters, Kerry (Jeff) Verbeck of Sidney, Alexis (Art) Piehl of Tomah, Wis., and Billie (Tom) Westervelt of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Dale (Ramona) of Grand Junction, Colo., Robert of Texas and Loren (Alice) of Casper, Wyo.; a sister, Kathleen (Richard) Casburn of Littleton, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jodie, and Jana Johnson of Wichita, Kan., Heidi Stevenson of St. Paul, Minn., Heather Gibney of Sparta, Wis., Katie and Kolby Verbeck of Sidney, and Dylan and Brianna Westervelt of Kansas City, Mo.; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established to St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizen Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala with the Rev. David Dobbertien officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., with the Rev. Raymond Adams officiating.

Larry D. Kahler
MAHASKA, Kan. - Larry D. Kahler of Mahaska, Kan., a brother of Wenzel Kahler of North Platte, died Aug. 18, 2001, at BryanLGH in Lincoln. He was 61.
He was born March 3, 1940, in Hayes County to Wenzel and Myrtle Littell Kahler.
Mr. Kahler lived in the Mahaska area for many years.
Survivors include three sisters, Maxine Kahler and Yvonne (Marvin) Dybdahl, both of McCook, and Mary Ann (Sheridan) Magnani of Bird City, Kan.; a brother, Wenzel (Linda) of North Platte; and 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Oletta and Almetta; a brother, Clifford; and three nephews.
Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society Research or to the donor's choice.
The body was cremated.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church in Maywood with the Rev. Dale Hiemer officiating. Inurnment will be in the Maywood Cemetery.

Thomas W. 'TW' Mahoney
STAPLETON - Thomas W. Mahoney, 84, of Stapleton died Aug. 19, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
He was born Sept. 20, 1916, to Joseph C. and Eudora Gramley Mahoney in the railroad depot at Poole. He grew up in Poole and graduated in 1933 from Ravenna High School.
On Sept. 22, 1942, he married Gladys Bullock. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific on Landing Ship USS LSM7 during World War II. After his military service, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad and retired Sept. 21, 1976.
On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Cora Druery in Stapleton.
Mr. Mahoney was a member of the American Legion 324 in Stapleton, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8258 in Stapleton, USS LSM LSMR Association, Union Pacific Oldtimers Club and he was also a life member of the United Transportation Union Local 286.
He enjoyed fishing, traveling and his family.
He is survived by his wife of Stapleon; five daughters, Julayne (John) Beaubien of Yuma, Ariz., Maureen (Don) Hayden of Stapleton, Nancy (Dave) Stewart of Richville, Minn., Shirley (Ron) Schuller of Ravenna and Jeanne McEvoy of Westminster, Colo.; two sons, Timothy (Pam) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Thomas J. "Buck" of Kearney; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathryn Riley and Myrl Pesek ; and a brother, Jay Carroll Mahoney.
A memorial has been established to the American Legion Post 324 in Stapleton.
The body was cremated. Inurnment with military honors will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.
Ingrid Gitta Petersen
Ingrid Gitta Petersen, 58, of North Platte died Aug. 20, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born May 30, 1943, at Munich, Germany, to Hans Maier and Ingeborg Jelle. She grew up and attended school in Bruckberg, Germany. She was a florist before she was married.
On June 28, 1960, she married Bert Dwayne Randall in Landshut, Germany. They lived in California and in August 1975, they moved to Alaska. She worked in a deli in California and Alaska. In 1989, she returned to California. In 1991, she moved to North Platte to be near her daughter.
On Dec. 12, 1992, she married Gordon Kenneth Petersen in North Platte. They lived in Curtis until 2000, when they moved to North Platte.
Mrs. Petersen was an artist of landscapes, using many different media. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Birchwood, Alaska, and had attended Calvary Baptist Church in North Platte.
Surviving her is her husband, Gordon; two daughters, Ranee Nichols of North Platte and Rowena (John) Potts of Wasilla, Alaska; three stepdaughters, Patricia (Gilbert) Killion of Kearney, Murnita Hill and Marlene (Kenneth) Ralston, both of Curtis; two sons, Randy (Jill) Randall of Wasilla and Ronny (Shelly) Randall of Anchorage, Alaska; a stepson, Roger (Carolyn) Petersen of Curtis; a sister, Liane (Horst) Stohr of Frankfurt, Germany; a brother, Jurgen Jelle of North Platte; her father of Linz, Austria; her mother-in-law, Ida Randall of San Diego; six grandchildren, Bryce and Brianna Nichols, Adam and Kathryn Potts and Michelle and Caitlin Kanosh; 10 stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in North Platte with the Rev. Robert Payne officiating. Burial will be in the Curtis Cemetery.
The casket will not be open at the church. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.
Stacy L. Russell
Stacy Lynn Russell, 33, of Potter died Aug. 18, 2001, in North Platte.
He was born Oct. 14, 1967, to Howard and Eldora Miller Russell in Garden City, Kan. He moved with his family several times while growing up and he attended high schools in Imperial and North Platte. In 1986, he graduated from high school in Colby, Kan.
He was an avid baseball player. He began playing the game when he was age 7 and he continued through high school. During that time, he played on many all-star teams. He continued playing softball after graduation. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an excellent artist and enjoyed drawing.
He was a warehouse stockman at Cabela's in Sidney at the time of his death.
Survivors include a daughter, Cassandra Lynn Kramer-Russell of Brush, Colo.; his parents of Sidney; two sisters, Charlotte (Harvey) Wendel of Garden City and Brenda (Shane) Craghead of Omaha; six brothers, Herb of Ellsworth, Kan., Lyle (Lisa) of Satana, Kan., David of Wichita, Kan., Howard Jr. "JR" (Bev) and Bradley (Vicki), both of North Platte, and Stanley (Cindy) of Sidney; a good friend, Steve (Robbie) McKenney of Cozad; and a special friend, Cindy Moses of Potter.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kevin, in 1984.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Captain Kris Wood officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Pyramid View Cemetery in Gove County, Kan.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.
Theodore 'Ted' Sladky
LEXINGTON - Theodore W. "Ted" Sladky, 92, of Lexington died Aug. 17, 2001, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood.
He was born March 31, 1909, at Lexington to John and Anna Straka Sladky. He grew up in Lexington, graduating in 1925 from Lexington High School. He then attended Emporia (Kan.) Teacher's College and graduated in 1931.
He met Mabel Lewis while she was teaching in Lexington and they were married Dec. 28, 1938, at Winside.
Upon returning to Lexington after graduating from college, he worked for Albert Kjar in the Kjar Hay and Grain Dealership. The company later bought the John Deere dealership. After his retirement in 1976, he was the lawn-care expert at Hennek's.
He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington and the Knights of Columbus.
The couple built their home on 17th and Lincoln in Lexington and Mr. Sladky did most of the carpentry work himself, which he greatly enjoyed. His yard was beautifully groomed as he took great pride in his outside work. He enjoyed sports, especially the Lexington Minutemen and Nebraska Cornhuskers. He enjoyed a great game of cribbage and working with his hands and being with his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn (Michael) Fischbach of San Antonio; a son, Mike (Jonelle) of Oxford; several grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1993; his parents; two sisters, Agnes Caraway and Mary Sladky; and two brothers, John and Tony.
Memorials are suggested to St. Ann's Catholic Church or to the Lexington Foundation Scholarship Fund.
Christian Wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Mullowney officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery at Lexington.

Jack E. Tridle
FLORENCE, Ariz. - Jack. E. Tridle, 76, a longtime resident of Maxwell and North Platte, where he worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years, died Aug. 18, 2001, at Florence, Ariz.
He was born Aug. 17, 1925, at Maxwell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving him is his wife, Betty; a daughter, Jackie (Del) Steinwart of Grand Island; three sons, Tom (Ann) of Houston, Ken of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Joe of Florence; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, John; and his mother, Ann Miller.
Memorial services were Aug. 19, 2001, in Florence.
Memorial services will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell for Mr. Tridle and his son, John.
