Peder Redfield

Peder Alan Redfield was born April 21, 1948, in Valley City, ND, the son of Ivanelle “Ivy” and Ingvald “Ing” Redfield. He attended school in Moorhead, MN and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1966. After high school, he continued his education and graduated from Moorhead State University in 1971 with a degree in Mathematics. He worked through college at Hornbachers and then for a short time with B.H. Chesley Company. The final 26 years of his career were spent with Fairway Foods where he was a meat buyer. In 1972 he married Kathy Murphy in Moorhead, and together they had four children. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Moorhead Spud Boosters, and enjoyed attending the Moorhead Athletic Association (MAA) luncheons. Most of his free time in the summers, were spent at the lake with his family.

Peder loved his family. The highlight of his life was attending his children’s sporting events. He and Kathy made sure their children were never without their parent’s support in any of their activities. Peder especially enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his “little buddy, ” grandson, Jacob who referred to Papa as the “Old Goat.” His time here on earth was much too short. There are some very special upcoming family events he was looking forward to, but we know he will always be with us. We are so grateful for the time he gave us and all the wonderful memories.

Peder died Thursday, February 5, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, at fifty-five years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy, Moorhead; mother Ivanelle “Ivy”, Moorhead; four children, Jason (Jerene) Redfield, Dilworth, MN, Jennifer Redfield and friend, Nate Baukol, Grand Forks, ND, Jessica Redfield and fiancé, Lane Huseby, Moorhead, and Justin Redfield, Moorhead; one sister Carol (Keith) Hoffman, Moorhead; one brother Steve (Barb) Redfield, Fargo; one grandson Jacob, Moorhead; and 6 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Ingvald “Ing” Redfield.

Visitation for Peder will be Sunday, February 8, 2004, from 5 – 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. The funeral will be Monday, February 9, 2004, at 2 PM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Moorhead.

Marlys Plymale

Marlys I. Plymale, 75, Fargo, ND, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Marlys Ione Mousseau, the daughter of George and Frieda (Olson) Mousseau, was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Fargo, where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in the mid-1940s. As a young lady, she enlisted in the US Army and served until her discharge in January of 1952. While in the service, she was married to Robert Hardage.

Marlys returned to Fargo, where she had lived, except for a short time in Georgia. On Feb. 14, 1958, Marlys married Donald W. Plymale.

In 1970 Marlys moved to Christine, ND, and returned to Fargo in 1974. Marlys worked at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store in north Fargo, and from 1978 to 1983, as a security guard at Hector Airport in Fargo. She retired in 1983 and continued to live in Fargo.

Marlys is survived by two daughters, Kathy (John) Selisker, Bemidji, MN, and Laurie (Paul) Hempel, Christine, ND; a son, Donnie Plymale, Christine; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial service: Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at 1 PM Calvary Baptist Church, Fargo, North Dakota.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Norma Paasch

Norma H. Nerdahlen, the daughter of Nils and Helga (Klev) Nerdahlen, was born on Nov. 25, 1917, at Portland, ND, where she grew up and received her education. Norma graduated from Portland High School in 1935. She attended Mayville (ND) Teacher’s College and Interstate Business College, in Fargo, ND, after which, she worked at Midwest Insurance Company.

On January 12, 1944, Norma was united in marriage to William “Bill” John Frederick Paasch, at Moorhead, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in Portland for a short period of time and then in Moorhead. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Norma was proud of her Norwegian heritage, and visited Norway four times. She continued to correspond with her Norwegian relatives, and she was a member of the Sons of Norway. She also was involved in Campfire Girls. Norma enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She was a very active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. In addition to being in the womens circle and ladies aide, she served as the church treasurer for a number of years.

Norma H Paasch died at a hospital in Fargo on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who died on May 30, 1990, her parents, 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Naomi H. Paasch, Moorhead; three grandchildren, Alicia (Jeremy) Overbeck, John Langdahl and Nicole Langdahl, all of Moorhead; one great-grandson, Joseph Overbeck, Moorhead; and her former son-in-law, Bob Langdahl, Moorhead.

Visitation: Monday, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at 2:30 PM Bottlofson Chapel, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Burial: Bruflat cemetery, Portland, ND.

Richard Olson

Richard L. Olson, 64, West Fargo, ND, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family.

Richard LeRoy Olson, son of Thorson and Alma B. (Edstrom) Olson, was born January 8, 1940, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fargo. The youngest of six children, Richard was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo. He attended North Elementary School, West Fargo, and graduated from West Fargo High School in 1957. Richard drove semi for R&W; Transfer, West Fargo, for several years. He later worked as a salesman for Pierce Printing Co., Fargo, from 1962 to 1963.

Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Westfall on July 6, 1962, at Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo. The couple made their home in Fargo until moving to West Fargo in 1969.

Richard served as a Specialist Four in the United States Army from May 1963 to April 1965. He did his basic training at Fort Ord, CA. He was stationed with the Hq. Btry 1st Bn, 39th Arty in Augsburg, Germany. After his discharge he returned to Fargo.

From May 1965 to August 1977 Richard was service manager at Pierce Printing Co, AB Dick Division. He then was owner and operator of Sheyenne Lanes, West Fargo, from 1977 to 1995. He also worked at Fargo Assembly, Fargo, as a parts runner and in maintenance until his death. Richard was a lifetime member of the West Fargo VFW Post #7564. Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara, West Fargo; two sons, Wayne “Chris” Olson, Grand Forks, ND, and Trevor Jay Olson, Scottsdale, AZ; one sister, Imogene Hodges, Fargo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters.

Reo Olsen

Reo W. Olsen, age 90, of Fargo, ND, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Elim Care Center in Fargo.

Reo Wilton Olsen was born at Rutland, ND, on Dec. 18, 1913. He grew up and received his education in the Rutland area, where he graduated from high school. In the late 1930s he graduated from UND in Grand Forks, ND. During World War II, Reo served as an officer and pilot in the US Navy. He was stationed in Florida, Kansas, and North Carolina. He was discharged as a Lt. Commander. While he was in the Navy, he was united in marriage to Geneva Helgeson on December 24, 1941, at Pensacola, Florida.

After his discharge from the Navy, the family made their home in Grand Forks, where Reo worked for Nash Finch. They later moved to Bismarck, ND, where he worked for the North Dakota Unemployment Compensation Division. Reo then worked for Minneapolis-Moline Farm Equipment Company, and the family lived in a number of Midwest communities. Later, Reo worked for GE Credit division in Palatine, IL. In about 1967, the family moved to Moorhead, MN, where Reo worked in the real estate industry until he retired in 1974. After retirement, Reo and Geneva wintered in Florida and spent summers at their lake home on Rush Lake, near Perham, MN. In 1994, the couple returned to Moorhead to live. They later moved to Elim Pioneer House Assisted Living in Fargo, ND, and in 2003, Reo became a resident of Elim Care Center.

Reo is survived by his wife, Geneva, Fargo; two sons, Roger (Carole) Olsen, Moorhead, and Mark (Marilyn) Olsen, Helena, MT; two daughters, Cheryl Kelly, Durham, NC, and Donna (Mark) Voxland, Moorhead; two sisters, Doris Wanberg, Fargo, and Margie (Paul) Ray, Grand Forks; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial service: Thursday, May 6, 2004, at 1:30 PM, Chapel of Elim Care Center, Fargo, North Dakota.

Inurnment: Fort Snelling National cemetery, Fort Snelling, MN.

Stephen E. Nelson

Stephen Evander Nelson, the son of Evander and Delight (Stockton) Nelson, was born in Bismarck, ND, on October 29, 1941. He died at the age of 62 years on Thursday, February 19th, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Stephen grew up and received his education in Bismarck, where he graduated from Bismarck High School in 1959. He attended Bismarck Junior College and Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where he graduated in 1963. On August 28, 1965, Stephen was united in marriage to Kathy Fix, in Bismarck. In 1967, the family moved to Moorhead, MN, where they have lived ever since.

Stephen was a high school English teacher. He taught in Garrison, ND (’63-’65), Bemidji, MN (’65-’67), Wahpeton, ND (’67-’69), and Glyndon – Felton, MN (’69 – ’92). Stephen was an avid music lover and collector. For many years, Stephen hosted the “Old Time Music Show” on Prairie Public Radio. This program featured blue-grass and old-time country music. Steve was a huge sports fan and loved to read as well. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and cherished the little things in life.

Those grateful for having shared his life are his wife and best friend, Kathy, Moorhead; son, Christopher and daughter, Naomi, both, Fargo; brother, David (Linda Wiley) Nelson, Grand Forks, ND; sister, Margaret (Richard) Braun, Rochester, MN; an aunt, Alice Nelson, Pelican Rapids, MN; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Caroline and Raymond Butler, Mandan, ND; brother-in-law, Ray Butler, Grand Forks; sister-in-law, Sandy (Alex) Neigum, Mandan; seven nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Stephen would end his radio program with, “Keep on the sunny side, so long for now.”

Visitation: Sunday, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, at the church.

Funeral service: Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at 2 PM Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Nellie E. Miller

Nellie E. Miller, age 93, of Fargo, ND, died on Friday, May 28, 2004, at Villa Maria in Fargo.

Nellie Ernestine Offerdahl, the daughter of Edward and Theresa (Smith) Offerdahl, was born in Borup, MN, on August 10, 1910. She grew up and received her education in Borup, where she graduated from high school. Nellie then attended Normal School, and taught in rural schools near Borup.

On August 14, 1936, Nellie was united in marriage to Clarence Miller, in Lockhart, MN. They lived in Lockhart, Beltrami, and Ada, MN, before they made their home in Moorhead, MN, in 1941. Nellie worked for Fairmont Creamery, Moorhead, the Moorhead City Assessor’s Office, and as a receptionist/switchboard operator at the Moorhead American Crystal Sugar plant, during the fall harvest campaigns.

Her husband, Clarence, died on April 15, 1991. After his death, Nellie continued to make her home in Moorhead. In February of 2000, Nellie became a resident of Villa Maria in Fargo, ND.

Nellie is survived by two children, LaVon Kuvaas, Fargo, and Wayne (Patty) Miller, Grand Forks, ND; a sister, Tracy Lower, Moorhead; six grandchildren, Janelle Richards, Joel Maddux, Wayne Miller, Cheri Willette, Kristi Reynolds, and Ryan Berg; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, a great-grandchild, five sisters, and two brothers.

Visitation: one hour before the funeral, at the church.

Funeral service: Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at 11 AM Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Moorhead.

Marsha Melroe

Marsha M. Melroe, 50, Phoenix, AZ, formerly Fargo, ND, died May 10, 2004, in her home.

Marsha Marie (Miller) Melroe, the daughter of Glenn and Rosie (Lemke) Miller, was born on October 29, 1953, in Moorhead, MN. She grew up on a farm near Baker, MN. Marsha was baptized June 29, 1954, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Barnesville, MN, by Rev. H.A. Romness, and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 7, 1968, by Rev. Paul Knutson. Marsha was a member of the A-Okay 4-H Club, in which she raised sheep, and was active in food, clothing and gardening projects. She was a graduate of Barnesville High School, where she played flute and was head majorette. Marsha later graduated from Josef’s School of Hair Design, Fargo, in 1998.

On December 29, 1971, Marsha was united in marriage to Roger E. Wagner of Barnesville. Three children were born to this marriage, Laura L. Strand, Tracy M. Brockhaus, and Vance R. Wagner. During the years of raising her children, she was active in teaching Sunday School, being a Brownie Girl Scout leader, and playing volleyball and golf.

Marsha worked for Norwest Bank, Wahpeton, ND, and for several years at the Farmers Mill & Elevator, Hankinson, ND. She later worked for Applied Engineering, West Fargo, ND, her favorite employer, which she thought of as her family.

October 15, 1999, was the happiest day, when she was united in marriage to Bruce E. Melroe, the love of her life, at First Lutheran Church, Fargo. In November 1999, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which she continued to battle until the time of her death.

In January 2001, Marsha and Bruce moved to Phoenix, AZ, where she was employed by Carollo Engineers. Marsha continued cancer treatment and was a source of support, encouragement, and prayer for others. Many times her illness gave her an opportunity to witness her love and faith in the Lord to others. Attending Christ’s Church of the Valley, Peoria, AZ, Marsha and Bruce were both baptized by immersion on May 5, 2002. They were active in a small group which has been their family in Arizona.

Marsha is survived by her husband, Bruce E. Melroe, who cared for her throughout her illness; two daughters, a son, and two grandchildren, Laura L. Strand and Drake, Hankinson, ND, Tracy M. (First Lieutenant Matthew Francis) Brockhaus, Phoenix, and Vance R. (Kristi) Wagner and Kaitlyn, Abercrombie, ND; her mother, Rosie Miller, Fargo; one sister, Theresa (Wade) Gerezewski, Fargo; one brother, Edward Miller (Deborah Robbins), Castana, IA ; one nephew and four nieces. She is also survived by one stepson, three stepdaughters, and five stepgrandchildren, Sean (Jackie) Melroe and Alec, Scottsdale, AZ, Nicole (Rob) Rudder and Emily and Elliott, Dallas, TX, Heather (Chris) Hansen and Madison and Jacob, Houston, TX, and Lindsay Melroe, San Francisco, CA. And last but not least, Marsha’s guardian angel cat, Emily, of 11 years, who has been such a constant, faithful, and loving companion who was always at her side. Marsha was preceded in death by her father and a stepgrandson.

Elizabeth Lund

Elizabeth T. Lund, 95, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.

Elizabeth Theresa Henkenius, daughter of Albert and Hedwig (Veit) Henkenius, was born in rural Antelope township, ND, on March 18, 1909. She grew up and received her education in rural Mooreton, ND. She worked several years for the Bagg Bonanza Farm, rural Mooreton, as a food server both in the dining room and the field.

Elizabeth was united in marriage to Clarence E. Lund, on December 26, 1941, in Mooreton. The couple made their home in Dwight, ND, Fargo, and eventually, Moorhead, MN. For five years they owned and operated Liz’s Café in Sabin, MN. They later made their home in Wolverton, MN. Clarence died in 1975. Elizabeth enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a long time and active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Elizabeth is survived by one son, Ronald, Moorhead; three daughters, Gayle (Bernard) Pfau, Fargo, Judy (Steve) McFarlin, Starbuck, MN, and Muriel (Les) Nicholas, Fargo; 21 grandchildren; 32 great -grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Klosterman, Wahpeton, ND, and Francis (Jim) Waxweiler, Mantador, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, David; and her parents.

VISITATION: Monday, May 3, 2004 – 4 PM to 8 PM, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN

PRAYER SERVICE: Monday, May 3, 2004 – 7 PM St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Moorhead, MN

FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday, May 4, 2004 – 10:30 AM, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead, Minnesota

INTERMENT: St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Moorhead, Minnesota
