Earl Rudser Orvedal

Earl R. Orvedal, 64, Fargo, died on Friday, November 29th at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, after a long illness.

Earl Rudser Orvedal was born December 10, 1937 in Fargo, to Henry and Elenora (Rudser) Orvedal. They lived on the farm located on the corner of 64th Avenue and 38th Street South. He attended grade school at Prairie Grove School # 9 and 9th grade at Agassiz. He graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1956. While in high school, he belonged to the Rose Coulee 4H Club. He also enjoyed raising his pigs, which were shown at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds and at the 4H Achievement Days in Casselton, ND.

He attended college at NDSU for two years of electrical engineering and two years at NDSSS in Wahpeton, taking radio communications. In 1954, he received his radio license from the FCC. He belonged to the Amateur Radio Club, with the call sign of WØWIA. He worked summer jobs at Cass County Implement and Fargo Manufacturing. In 1960, he began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company at Finley, ND. He worked as a radio technician with NW Bell and later AT&T, retiring in 1991, after 31 years.

On October 6, 1961, he married his best friend, Barbara Kay Daniels in Sisseton, SD. They celebrated forty-one years of marriage in October of this year.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons, Bradley (Jeannie) and Cory (Loretta), both of Fargo and Shawn, Moorhead; two grandchildren, Casey & Brooke; three step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Betty Orvedal, Mesa, AZ and Arlene Orvedal, Cando, ND; two brothers-in-law, Mark Daniels, Big Cormorant Lake, MN and Lee Daniels, Fridley, MN; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Roger Maris Cancer Center, Fargo.

Visitation: 5 to 7 PM, Monday, December 2, 2002 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, and for one hour before services at the church.

Funeral: 11 AM, Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at First Lutheran Church, Fargo.

Burial: Salem Lutheran cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Carrie I. Baier

Carrie I. Baier, 84, of Fargo, died Saturday, February 1, 2003, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Carrie Isabelle Morken was born to John and Christine (Lokken) Morken on May 14, 1918, near Abercrombie, ND. She grew up on a farm and attended school near Christine, ND. She attended Richland Lutheran Church and was confirmed there.

Carrie moved to Fargo where she married Prince Baier on October 11, 1942, in Moorhead, MN. Prince served in the U.S. Army during WWII and then returned to Fargo. They raised their family here. Carrie worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Bethany Homes for 11 years. She also was a Cub Scout Leader, Campfire Girl Leader and Sunday School Teacher at Olivet Lutheran Church, for many years.

She is survived by her husband Prince Baier, Fargo, ND; one son, Wayne Baier, Arvada, CO; one daughter, Debra (Jon) Anderson, Fargo, ND; one daughter-in-law, Pam Baier, Columbia Falls, MT; two brothers, Floyd Morken, Breckenridge, MN; Waldo (Millie) Morken, Moorhead, MN: three sisters, Inga (Emil) Johnson, Fargo, ND; Hilda Vogeler, Galchutt, ND; Erma (Charles) Hendrickson, Pelican Rapids, MN; four grandchildren, Bradley and Rebecca Anderson, Fargo, ND; Kelly (Eric) Hansen, Aurora, CO; Kimberly Baier, Columbia Falls, MT; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Caitlin Hansen, Aurora, CO; 34 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine Morken; a son, Darryl; three brothers, Joseph, Carl and Orvin Morken.

Funeral: Thursday, February 6, 2003, at 1:00 PM, at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday, February 5, 2003, from 5 – 7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND., and also one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.

Edna Thue Dehn

Edna Thue Dehn, 79, Fargo, ND, died Saturday, February 8, 2003, at Villa Maria, Fargo.

Edna L. Roesler was born March 23, 1923, at Golden Valley, ND, to John and Barbara Roesler. She grew up and graduated from high school at Golden Valley, ND. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. Edna married Richard Thue, February 23, 1945, in Fargo. They raised their three children in Fargo. He died in 1970. Edna worked as a bookkeeper in Fargo since 1965. Edna was a bookkeeper for Fargo Hearing Aid Center in Fargo before retiring in 1988. She was a charter member of Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. On April 14, 1988 Edna married Harvey Dehn at Moorhead, MN. He died in 1998.

Edna is survived by one son, Douglas (Belinda) Thue, Evansville, MN; two daughters, Connie Jones, Napa, Ca; and Vicki (Mark) Robinson, Fargo, ND; one brother John Roesler,Jr., Lodi, CA; and four sisters, Anne and Molly, of Culver City, OR; Rose of CA; and Maggie Faut, Bismarck, ND; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral: Tuesday, 10:00 AM, in the Hanson-Runsvold Chapel, Fargo.

Visitation: One hour before the service in the Chapel.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo, ND

Clarice C. Dwyer

Clarice C. (Foss) Dwyer died peacefully under the loving care of the wonderful staff at Bethany Homes and The Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Clarice was born on March 15, 1916, in Mayville, North Dakota, the fourth of six children of Karen and Otto Foss. She attended Mayville State Teacher’s College, where she obtained her teaching degree and went on to teach school in Enderlin for a time. She moved to Los Angeles, CA, shortly before WW II and worked for 30 years at Lockheed-Martin Corp. as a receptionist, a job she loved immensely.

She retired to Mayville and took care of her own parents for six years until they both passed away. She has lived in Fargo for the past 20 years, the last

four at Bethany Homes and provided many of us with wonderful "Clarice stories." She will be missed by all of us who loved her.

Clarice is survived by two sisters, Jeannette Hegge, Denver, CO; Orlinda Ferguson, Cottage Grove, OR; sister-in-law, Betty Foss, San Lorenzo, CA; many nieces and nephews, David and Leslie Hegge and their children, Neal, John and Tom, Fargo, ND; Jacqueline Goodkin and her children, Jessica and Maia, Fargo, ND; Debra and Bruce Meachum, Denver, CO; Sandra and Jerry Brooks, Perry Hall, MD; John Foss and his children, Adrienne and Dustin, Pittsburg, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose (Ham) Dwyer.

Funeral: Thursday, February 13, 2003, at 1:30 PM, at Mavis Whiting Chapel, Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the Chapel.

Burial: Mayville cemetery, Mayville, ND.

Anna Aileen Erickson

Anna Aileen (Anderson) Erickson, 50, of Frazee, MN, lost her long and courageous battle with cancer on October 3, 2003.

Anna was born on November 23, 1952, daughter of Robert James and Mildred L. (Volkers) Anderson, in Valley City, ND. She attended school in Deer Creek, MN. She then moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area where she worked for Quality Bakery for many years.

Anna belonged to the Social club, Fargo and was an active church member.

Anna was always a person who thought of others before herself. She was a very devoted and loving Mother and Grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert James Anderson.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Patty (Mike) Anderson of Detroit Lakes, MN; four brothers, Steve Anderson of Bluffton, MN, Butch Anderson of Randall, MN, Rick (Sherrie) Anderson of St. Cloud, MN, and Wayne Anderson of Gully, MN; two sisters, Sharon (Rick) Rehm of Henning, MN, and Sylvia of Cross Lake, MN; her mother, Mildred Anderson of Conlly, MN; three grandchildren and one foster grandchild.

FUNERAL: Friday, October 10, 2003 at 2:00 PM in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.

VISITATION: One hour before the service at the Funeral Home.

BURIAL: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.

Dorothy F. Ernst

Dorothy F. Ernst, 96, of Fargo, died Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at Villa Maria, Fargo, ND.

Dorothy Florence Ernst was born to Andrew S. and Augusta "Gustie" (Larson) Nelson on January 26, 1906 in Joice, Iowa.

Dorothy was the fifth of nine children. She lived on a farm near Lake Mills, Iowa until about age three when a tornado destroyed the farmstead. She and her family then moved to the Montpelier, North Dakota area, where she graduated from high school. She was a center on the basketball team.

Dorothy went to Valley City Teachers College in North Dakota and earned a teaching certificate. She taught in a one-room normal school around Marion, North Dakota until the school was consolidated in the late 1920’s.

She then managed and operated the Nelson’s Beauty Shop for several years in Enderlin. During that time, she met and married Roy Ernst from Enderlin on November 14, 1942, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Iowa. When Roy finished his military service, they moved to Fargo, where Dorothy was a substitute teacher for years in the Fargo School System. She retired from teaching in 1971.

She and Roy moved to Riverview Place, Fargo, in December of 2000. They then moved to Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, in November of 2001.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening and watching baseball, football and basketball games. She was an active, long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo. She was a devoted mother and wife. Her gentle, sweet nature will be missed.

She is survived by her husband, Roy, Fargo; two sons, LeRoy (Judy) Ernst, Fargo, ND; David (Barb) Ernst, Lilburn, GA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her four sisters; Lucille; Mae; Eva; Mildred; and four brothers; Simon; Oliver, Jimmy; Lloyd.

Funeral: Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND.

Visitation: Monday, January 20, 2003 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

Prayer Service: Monday, January 20, 2003 at 7 p.m. at Hanson-Runsvold

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Adeline L. Garman

Adeline L. Garman, 84, of Fargo, died on Sunday, July 13, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Adeline was born on December 29, 1918, daughter of Frank and Marie (Rhode) Siedschlag, in Wabasso, MN. She attended school in District 80 in Granite Rock Township, MN. On October 8, 1936, she married Alva Garman in Vesta, MN. During the first part of their marriage, she cooked for thrashing crews on various farms and also picked potatoes with her husband. They later moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area where she worked as a cook for the Powers Café from 1962 – 1970 and then for Dakota Hospital from 1970 until her retirement in May of 1985. Her husband, Alva, died on August 28, 1980.

Adeline was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Garman, her parents, two sisters, and three brothers.

Adeline is survived by three sons, LaVern Garman of Dothan, AL, Lenus Garman (Brenda) of Torrance, CA, and LeWayne Garman (Karen) of Crescent City, CA; three daughters, Sharon Kenny (Quentin "Larry") of Fargo, ND, Cheryl Hellerud of Anaheim, CA, and Judy Garman of Buena Park, CA; one brother, Allen Siedschlag (Marty) of Randall, MN; three sisters, Alice Chirstoferson of Sisseton, SD, Helen Shelstad (LaVerne) of Evans City, PA, and Goldie Heinrich (Orville) of Gary. SD; sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 2:00 PM in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

VISITATION: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 from 5-7 PM in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

PRAYER SERVICE: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at 7:00 PM in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

BURIAL: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.

Beverly Hendricksen-Hovland

Beverly Hendricksen-Hovland, 72, of Fargo, died on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 in her home.

Beverly was born on September 29, 1930 in Rothsay, MN, the daughter of Fay and Burnis (Hawley) Morris. She attended school in both Rothsay and Breckenridge, MN. On January 9, 1947, she married Allen "Joe" Hendricksen in Rothsay, MN. They resided on a farm near Rothsay for four years. They then moved to Wolf Point, MT where they lived for four years until moving to Fargo in 1958. She worked for the Nash Finch Company and also Sears, both in Fargo. Her husband "Joe" died on February 9, 1995. On July 5, 1997, Beverly married Lyndon Hovland in Fargo, ND.

Beverly was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen "Joe" Hendricksen; one brother, Cecil Morris; and one sister, Joyce Hanson.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Lyndon Hovland of Fargo, ND; one daughter, Connie (Robert) Sanders of Orlando, FL; two sons, Ron (Sandy) Hendricksen of Moorhead, MN and Daryl (Patty) Hendricksen of Moorhead, MN; one step-daughter, Cindy (Marshall) Johnson of Moorhead, MN; two step-sons, Dan (Kristen) of Bismarck, ND and Michael (Donna) Hovland of Red Wing, MN; two brothers, Lowell (LaVon) Morris of Minot, ND and Allen (Mary) Morris of Fargo, ND; one sister, Betty (Les) Schultz of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 2:00 pm in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

VISITATION: Friday, February 7, 2003 from 5-7 pm in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

PRAYER SERVICE: Friday, February 7, 2002 at 7:00 pm in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

BURIAL: Riverside cemetery. Fargo, ND.
