Arthur Jorgensen
Arthur P. Jorgensen, 86, Bismarck, died September 17, 2003, in a local care center. Services will be held at 12 Noon Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans cemetery, Mandan with military graveside by the VFW Post 1326.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service where a prayer service will be held at 7:00. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Art was born May 10, 1917 near Epping, ND, the son of Nels and Agnes Jorgensen who homesteaded in the area after emigrating from Denmark. He was raised and attended schools there, prior to going west, where he worked as a cowboy, welder, and ship builder. Art enlisted in the U. S. Army in March of 1943 and served in the European Theatre. As a cannoneer he was engaged in the Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno Battles and in the Southern France and Central Europe Campaigns. He received numerous decorations and citations including four bronze stars, the bronze arrowhead, the WW II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart. A true patriot, Art was very proud of his military service and of his country.
Art married
Norma Marie Holen on June 17, 1949 in Ray, ND. He worked for the U.S, Department of Agriculture and lived in Williston, Minot and moved to Bismarck with his family in 1973, where they have since resided.
Art loved photography, fishing, and hunting. He was also a rock hound and polished countless stones. He was a lifelong learner who joined Toastmasters and enjoyed traveling throughout the world with Norma.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, the VFW, the American Legion, and the DAV. Art was very proud of his farming and Scandinavian heritage, and especially cherished time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Arlene and her husband Rev. Jay Hillestad of Eden Prairie, MN and Linda and her husband Rev. Maury Millican of Bismarck; his grandson James Peter Millican; his granddaughters, Ann Marie and Holly Millican; three brothers, Ivan of Vancouver, WA, Harold of Portland, OR, and Laurence of Williston, ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife Norma, on August 18, 2000, his brother Carl Henry, and his sisters Viola Hartling and Olga Daniels.
Memorials may be given to the North Dakota State Veterans cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Christine Hill
Christine Bossert Hill, 82, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Thursday, at Eastgate Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Christine was born February 16, 1921 in Wing, ND to Gottfried and Christina (Barreth) Bossert. She married
Norval A. Hill on October 6, 1946 and they lived on Patterson ranches in Wing, Pettibone, and Bismarck, North Dakota while they raised their family of 8 children. Norval died in 1984.
Christine retired in 1989 after working 20 years as a Nurses Aide and OT Aide at the Baptist Home in Bismarck. Since retiring, she put in many hours at the Bismarck Senior Center as a RSVP volunteer, quilting and other volunteer activities at Faith Lutheran Church. She also spent a great deal of time with her family and close friends enjoying gardening, crafting, and watching her grandchildren grow.
Christine is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Solberg of Bismarck and Mrs. Steve (Connie) Green of Minneapolis; six sons, Jim (Sandee), Dennis, Wesley, Bruce (Peggy), Larry, and Steve (Virginia) Hill all of Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Alex (Martha) Schmidt of Sacramento, CA; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and four sisters.
Christine's quick wit, her generosity, caring and love will be missed by all. May she rest in peace.
The family prefers memorials to Faith Lutheran Church.
Eugene Fuher
Eugene Joseph Fuher, 66, 2026 N Kavaney Dr., Bismarck, died August 4, 2003 at a Bismarck hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service where a prayer service will be held at 7:00. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Eugene was born September 12, 1936 in Merricourt, ND, the son of Joseph and Mercia (King) Fuher. He was raised and educated in the Merricourt area. He graduated from Edgeley High School in 1954 and Ellendale State Normal and Industrial College in 1959. He enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in 1958. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in 1961. He was the Commander of the 116th Public Affairs Detachment. In 1979, he retired as Major in Bismarck after 22 years of service.
Eugene married
Mavis Myers on December 23, 1961 in Bismarck. After their marriage they lived in Hazen, ND where he taught school until 1971. He was employed by North Dakota Disaster Emergency Services and then Basin Electric Power Cooperative, where he retired in1995.
During his retirement Gene and Mavis spent winters in Gold Canyon, AZ where he was an avid golfer and attained his lifelong dream of getting a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed traveling with Mavis, other family members and special friends. In addition, he loved the times he spent with his grandchildren. He was a life member of the Bismarck-Mandan Elks Club, the Bismarck-Mandan Exchange Club, McCabe United Methodist Church, and the Basin Electric Power Cooperative Retirees Assn. He was also an affiliate member of the Gold Canyon United Methodist Church.
Gene is survived by his wife, Mavis; one daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Jay Link of Fergus Falls, MN; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tanya Fuher of Bismarck; three grandchildren, Kayla, Joseph ?Joey?, and Hannah Fuher; one brother and sister-in-law, Arden and Sharon Fuher of Edgeley, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary Bean
Gary L. Bean, 61, Bismarck, ND, died July 26th 2003 in a Silverton, OR hospital from injuries received in a motorcycle accident in Silverton.
Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, August 9th, at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, 200 W. Turnpike Ave, in Bismarck, ND.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Sandi Bean of Silverton, OR, loving son and friend Damian Bean of Bismarck, ND and granddaughter Olivia Patterson of Bismarck.
Gary was born July 25th 1942 to Van and Delores Bean in Oregon. Gary had many passions in his life, he loved to ride his horses and tend to the land they were kept on. Three years ago he purchased his first Harley and he loved to ride, on many occasions taking the trip from Bismarck to Oregon. The thing he was most passionate about was his work. Gary was a licensed land surveyor in North Dakota and the surrounding states. He was deeply respected by his peers. Gary had a passion for accuracy and followed through on every last detail. He was involved in surveying for all of Basin Electric Power Cooperatives? transmission system and power stations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. He was actively surveying on these facilities since 1974 and an employee of Basin Electric since 1977.
He was well respected and loved in this community and will be greatly missed. I love you dad.
In lieu of flowers, Damian requests memorials be made to ABATE of North Dakota for the education of motorcycle riders. Something he and I strongly believed in.
Carl Jose
Carl Jose, 94, a resident of the Baptist Home, died July 30, 2003 in a local hospital.
Services will be held at 10 AM Monday at the Baptist Home Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 1-9 PM Sunday at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, 200 W. Turnpike Ave., and one hour prior to the service at the Baptist Home.
Carl was born March 19, 1909 in Antelope, ND the son of Henry and Christina(Heberle) Jose. He was raised in the Hebron area in his younger years. Carl lived in various locations in North Dakota and Montana, where he worked for the railroad, in the mining industry, and also farming and ranching. He married
Martha Ost February 29, 1932 in Beulah, ND. After their marriage, they lived in Zap, ND prior to moving to Bismarck in 1949. He was later employed with the City of Bismarck, where he retired with over 20 years of service. Carl enjoyed volunteering at the Baptist Home over the years.
Carl is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Harold and Merle Jose, Atlanta, GA, Calvin Jose, Bismarck, ND, Ralph and Darlene Jose, Fargo, ND, and Dick and Bernie Jose, Bismarck, ND; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Lester Davis, Springtown, TX; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one sister, Clare Bieber, Beulah, ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; two brothers, Rudolph and Ben; one sister, Louise; and one daughter-in-law, Lorraine Jose.
Cyril "Blackie" Hennenfent
Cyril E. “Blackie” Hennenfent died July 25, 2003 in a Bismarck hospital.
A memorial service will be held 1 PM Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with Chaplain Dan Sweeney officiating. Burial of cremains will be in the North Dakota Veterans cemetery, Mandan with military rites provided by the VFW Post #1326.
Cyril E. “Blackie” was born July 30, 1922 in Foxhome, Minnesota, to Nicholas and Adeline (Allex) Hennenfent. He attended grade school there, later moving to Watford City, ND, where he graduated from high school in 1942. He entered the United States Navy on February 25, 1943 serving almost three years during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class in 1946. He married
Dorothy E. Selid on April 13, 1946. He attended Minot State Teacher’s College where he earned a B.A. degree in 1950. He worked for the Corps of Engineers in Riverdale for 30 years, retiring in 1975.
Blackie was a long time member of the Riverdale Sportsman Club and a member of the Riverdale Golf Course. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and the American Legion where he held various positions as a Past Commander, Vice Commander, Historian, and Adjutant. He had a great love of family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf.
Blackie is survived by his son Wade of Farmington, MN; his daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Mike Miller of Donnybrook, ND; his grandsons Corey and Shawn Miller of Donnybrook; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Quentin Hennenfent of Mesa, AZ and Doug and Arlene Hennenfent of WA; and one stepsister Lois White of Minot.
Elizabeth Rippley
Elizabeth Rippley, 86, Bismarck, died August 3, 2003, at a Bismarck care center.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Driscoll with the Rev. Jo Pfennig officiating. Burial will be at the Sterling cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 – 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elizabeth Fetzer was born on May 8, 1917, near Tuttle, North Dakota, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Zwiegle) Fetzer. She grew up and attended school in Tuttle. On July 17, 1935, she married
Norman Rippley in Steele, North Dakota. They made their home at various times at Tuttle, Sterling, Driscoll, and Olympia, Washington.
Following Mr. Rippley’s death in 1982, Elizabeth made her home in Sterling. In April 2002, she moved to Edgewood Vista and this past April, she entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
Elizabeth enjoyed church activities, quilting, playing cards, bingo, shopping, baking, and gardening. She was a grandma to everyone.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Eunice and Donald Weisenburger of Tuttle, and Nancy Rippley of Underwood; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dennis and June of Missoula, Montana, Larry and Kyla of Olympia, Washington, Robert and his special friend, Loretta of Sterling, and Frank and Sally of Sterling; four sisters, Alvina Sackman of Bismarck, Caroline Fetzer of Hazen, Freda Meir of Carrington, and Martha Ochsner of Missoula, Montana; four brothers, William Stanke of Tuttle, Richard Fetzer of Steele, Leonard Fetzer of Fargo, and Harold Fetzer of Mandan; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents; one son, Stanley; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Hilde Rasmusson
Hilde M. Rasmusson, 85, Bismarck, died July 25, 2003 in a local care center. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Robert Lynne officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday and 9:00 to 10:30 AM Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hilde was born September 8, 1917 in Presho, SD to Anton and Anna Sather. She graduated from Presho High School and attended college in Rapid City, SD. In 1939, she worked for the Farm Security Administration, USDA, in Kennebec, SD and then transferred to the Regional Office in Lincoln, NE in 1940. Hilde and N. Paul Rasmusson were married
in Valentine, NE on June 6, 1942.
While Paul served in the Eighth Air Force in England, Hilde lived in Presho. When Paul was discharged, he returned to work with the Farm Security Administration. At various times the family lived in Bowbells, Williston, and Devils Lake, ND before moving to Bismarck in 1966.
While in Devils Lake, Hilde was parish secretary of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the St. Olaf Ladies Aid and Sunday School. When the Lake Region Lutheran Home was built, she was employed as secretary.
Hilde enjoyed visiting and working with the elderly. Soon after coming to Bismarck, she was a “gray lady” with the Bismarck Chapter of the Red Cross, visiting residents of nursing homes.
Soon after the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center was built, Hilde was a volunteer, charter member, and past president of the women’s auxiliary. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, member and past president of Trinity Lutheran Church Women, member and past president of the Bismarck Study Club and a member of P.E.O. Chapter N.
Hilde is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Harry Poletes, Sioux Falls, SD; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Kim Rasmusson, Breezy Point, MN; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, J. Henry Sather, Macomb, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
