Nyleen June Fischer
(June 7, 1930 - January 18, 2015)
The Funeral Service for Nyleen J. Fischer, age 84 of Carson will be held at 2:00pm MT, Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND.
Pastor Paul Ferrie will officiate with burial in the Emmaus Congregational cemetery at Carson.
Serving as casketbearers are Art, Brad, Chris, and Dennis Bonogofsky, Dan Roth, and Charlie Steinkuehler.
NYLEEN JUNE ZELLER was born on June 7, 1930 in Elgin, ND.
She lived on a farm north of Carson. She attended a rural country school and graduated from Elgin High School in 1947.
Nyleen was united in marriage to Wilbert Fischer on June 3, 1947.
They lived in the New Leipzig area where they farmed and ranched for a short time.
In the early 1960’s, they purchased a farm south of Flasher which they operated until retiring in the late 1990’s and moving into Carson.
Her husband passed away in 2002 and Nyleen continued to live in her home.
She loved canning, baking and doing craft work.
She had a special gift and love for animals.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served on the Carson Ambulance Squad for many years.
Nyleen passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center in Elgin, ND.
Survivors include her daughter Arleen “Tootie” Stilwell, Bowman, ND; granddaughter Brandy Stilwell, Bowman, ND; sisters-in-law, Viola Hauck and Elsie (Paul) Kelley, brothers-in-law, Ervin (Florence) Fischer, Herb (Judy) Fischer, and Art Fischer, numerous nieces and nephews, and very special friends, Marilyn & Roland Roth, Enid & Charlie Steinkuehler, Julie & Q.J. Armijo, Karen & Ron Bonogofsky, Dale Carmen & Ken Trauna.
She was honored to be called “grandma” by Art, Brad, Chris, and Dennis Bonogofosky; she is also survived by her Shih Tzu companion Laney.
Nyleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbert in 2002, her sons Raymond in 2005 & Daryl in 1984; and brothers, Darvin Zeller, Dennis & Emil Hauck, and a sister, Donna Trehus.
Visitation will be from 1-7pm MT on Wednesday, January 21 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND.
John "Bobby" Robert Fix
(November 29, 1937 - January 17, 2015)
Mass of Christian Burial for John “Bobby” Fix, age 77, of Mott, ND, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Mott, ND with Fr. Dennis Schafer, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sunnyslope cemetery at Mott.
Serving as Pallbearers are Mike Meier, Vic Meier, Lee Meier, Lyle Frieze, Loren Frieze, Mark Frieze, and Jamie Ebner.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-7pm at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church with a Rosary and Wake Service starting at 7pm.
JOHN “BOBBY” ROBERT FIX was born on November 29, 1937 in Hettinger, ND to Linus and Beata (Friedt) Fix.
He attended a country school in North Dakota through the 8th grade and later, while in Minnesota, earned his GED, of which he was very proud.
Bobby worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 30 years, and upon his retirement returned to Mott, ND.
He married
Joanne Welsch on September 30, 1961 and to this union a daughter, Karen, was born.
His hobbies were numerous and varied and included woodworking, tending to flowers, fishing, hunting, and playing cards.
Bobby passed away early Saturday morning, January 17, 2015.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Joanne; daughter Karen (Dan) Eklund, Phillips, WI; brothers Jake Fix, Rochester, MN; Linus (Loretta) Fix, Mission, TX; sisters Catherine Kouba, Mott, ND; Monica Olson, Mobridge, SD; granddaughters Emily, Shelby, Gabrielle Eklund; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wendy.
Sandra Bleick
(April 2, 1946 - January 16, 2015)
Sandra Bleick of Elgin, ND, passed away on January 16, 2015 at CHI St. Alexius Hospital, after a 19-year battle with multiple myeloma, surrounded by her loving family.
Sandra was born on April 2, 1946, in Mitchell, SD, to Wallace and LaNelle (Kessler) Timpe of Salem, SD.
The Timpe family moved to Flasher, ND, in 1948.
Sandra attended school at St. Lawrence Grade School through the eighth grade and graduated from Flasher High School in 1964 where she was an honor student and salutatorian of her class.
She graduated from Bismarck Junior College in 1966 and from Dickinson State College in 1968.
Her teaching career, which spanned the years from 1968 to 2013, had her teaching high school English at Belfield, Flasher, New Leipzig, Elgin and Carson and serving as librarian at New Leipzig, Elgin, and Carson schools.
Sandra thought the world of her students and enjoyed talking of their accomplishments and their antics.
Sandra (Sandee) grew up with brothers Ron, Doug and Jim Timpe and sister Carol Timpe on the small family farm.
She spent part of each summer on her grandparent’s farm helping with chores and exploring the hills.
Sandra married
Robert Bleick of Elgin, ND, on December 27, 1971, in St. Lawrence Catholic Church at Flasher.
They had 3 sons, Daniel, Jonathan, and Steven.
Sandra is survived by her 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Rachel Bleick, Fargo, ND, Jonathan Bleick (Lisa Rowland), New Salem, ND; and Steven Bleick, Elgin, ND; grandchildren Mason, Simon, Natalie, CJ, and Michael, 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Marie Timpe, Grand Forks, ND; Doug and Kitty Timpe, Paola, KS; Jim and Dr. Donnell Timpe, Mason City, IA; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Carol and C.J. Daigle, Lawrenceville, GA; half-brother Jerry (Judy) Hoffmann, many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Veryl Roth, Betty Luke, Iris Parraguirre and Nora Hulette, aunt Elaine Hochhalter, uncle Bob Timpe and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert on February 27, 2004, grandson Avery Bleick, parents Wallace and LaNelle Timpe, grandparents and many uncles and aunts.
Sandra (Sandee) was a naturalist at heart. She loved all things in nature, especially animals.
Sandee loved the outdoors and had a deep suntan during most of the year.
She spent much of her youth with puppies, chickens, horses, and the other farm animals.
Her favorites were always the “runt” of the litter, her dog Zippy, a one-legged chicken named Chippee, and Gypsy, a foal that ran into a barbed-wire fence and was given to her by her grandfather after she nursed it back to health.
She was a skilled fisherwoman, spending many days on the riverbank.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am MT Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in New Leipzig.
Fr. Dennis Schafer will officiate with burial in St. John’s Catholic cemetery at New Leipzig.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1:00 to 7:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, with a Rosary and Wake Service starting at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be sent to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, Tracy’s Sanctuary of Bismarck or the Sandra Bleick Family.
Claire Marie Berdahl
(May 27, 1916 - January 14, 2015)
C. Marie Berdahl, age 98, of New Leipzig, ND, passed away at the Jacobsen Memorial Hospital Care Center in Elgin, ND on January 14, 2015.
Marie was born on May 27, 1916 to Orley and Amy Dawkins in Dunn Center, ND.
She was raised and schooled in Dunn Center.
She graduated from high school in 1934 where she was an avid basketball player .
After graduation she attended Dickinson Normal School to become a teacher, one year, which was required to start teaching, with more schooling later.
Marie’s first teaching job was in a rural school 13 miles north of Dunn Center.
On October 10, 1937, she married
Cleo M. Berdahl and together they raised five children.
Cleo was a Northern Pacific Railroad Station Agent so they moved around the State.
After her youngest child started school Marie went back to teaching.
She taught in Heil, Elgin, Carson, Flasher and Wachter Middle School in Bismarck.
Marie was active in the Homemakers clubs in different places they lived.
She also served as the President of the North Dakota Hospital Auxiliary after she retired.
After retirement they lived in Bismarck, Minneapolis, Bozeman, MT and finally back to North Dakota in 2010.
They were happy to be “home” again.
Survivors include, her son Gerald (Polly) Berdahl, daughters, Amy Berdahl, & Loretta (Mitch) Beck, son Orley (Glenna) Berdahl; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are 2 sisters-in-law, Naomi Dawkins and Sara Whitson.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Cleo, her parents, 2 brothers, and her son Myron.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, all memorials will be applied to the renovations at the Heil School.
Harold W Krause
(March 5, 1918 - January 10, 2015)
Harold Krause, 96, of Carson, ND passed away at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin, ND on Saturday, January 10, 2015.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. MT on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carson, ND with Pastor Sam Biebert officiating.
Interment will follow at 3:00 pm CT at the North Dakota Veterans cemetery, rural Mandan, ND.
Serving as casketbearers are Gary Krause, Wayne Krause, Brian Krause, David Krause, Zach Martin, and John Zeller.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 3 – 7 pm at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND.
HAROLD WILBUR KRAUSE was born in Hazen, ND on March 5, 1918 to Rose (Bohrer) and Fred Krause, Jr.
He grew up in Hazen and graduated from Hazen High School in 1937.
The summer after graduation he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and worked near Lake Metigoshe and the ND Peace Gardens for $30 a month, of which he was allowed to keep $5, with the remaining $25 being sent back to his parents.
Not wanting to work for the CCC in North Dakota during the winter months, he decided to move to Arizona and continued his CCC assignments there.
Harold returned to Bismarck, ND enlisted in the National Guard and in February 1941 was activated.
After his basic training in Louisiana he was stationed in Australia and Guadalcanal, seeing over 600 days of combat during WWII.
He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Returning to North Dakota, he met Edna Lee from Dodge, ND at a dance and they were united in marriage on February 10, 1946 in Hazen.
Following their marriage, they moved to Carson, ND where he partnered with his brother, Edwin, in the Krause’s Super Value, which he operated until his retirement in 1984.
Harold was a member of the Walter J. Thome American Legion Post #45, Trinity Lutheran Church, Commercial Club of Carson, and liked to golf and play cards of any kind. He moved to the Jacobson Memorial Care Center on March 10, 2010 and passed away there on Saturday, January 10, 2015.
Survivors include his three sons: Brian (Renee) Krause, Belle Fourche, SD; Gary Krause, Carson, ND; and Wayne Krause, Bangkok, Thailand; two grandchildren: David (Kourtney) Krause, Mpls, MN; Natalie (Zach) Martin, Thornton, CO; one great-granddaughter, Rosilynn; and sister, Ruth Moody, Grass Valley, CA.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Edna.
Dale Austin Thormodsgard
(June 8, 1925 - January 10, 2015)
Funeral services for Dale Thormodsgard, 89, of Hettinger, ND will be Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hettinger Lutheran Church.
Rev. Kathleen Dettmann will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger cemetery.
Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17 at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Home and one hour prior at the church on Sunday afternoon.
Dale Austin Thormodsgard was born June 8, 1925 at Hudson South Dakota to Nels and Dagna Sanderson Thormodsgard.
In 1928 his parents moved back to the farm 12 miles NE of Hettinger where Dale continued to live and farm with his Dad.
In 1951 Dale was employed at P.E. Knudson Mill & Elevator and Hersrud Implement and in 1953 moved to the Richard Johnson Farm, living there for 5 years.
Dale took over the family farm in 1958, milking cows and farming until moving to town in January 2011.
He entered Western Horizon Care Center in January 2012 where he was beloved by all and peacefully passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015.
Dale attended Taylor Butte grade school having perfect attendance and graduated from Hettinger High School in 1943.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a long time member of the Richland Lutheran Church.
On June 24, 1951 he married
the love of his life, Delores Kathleen Oster, at Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton, North Dakota.
To this union six children were born, Norman, Kathleen, Susan, James, Neil, and Allen.
Just when he thought his heart couldn’t get any bigger, he was blessed with many grandchildren and many more great grandchildren.
He found endless delight in spending time with his brood.
Dale passed away at the Western Horizon's Care Center in Hettinger on Saturday, January 10, 2015.
Dale will be remembered for his big heart, dedication to his family and willingness to always lend a helping hand.
He was a kind, dedicated man who rarely complained, but had thick, hardworking hands that told his story.
He loved to fish and secretly show off his fishing rods to his sons and son in laws, a man’s pastime that kept him young.
Most notably, he had this innate ability to construct beautiful creations, after observing the object once, out of wood that personified his kind heart and alluring soul.
He spent many hours making clocks, furniture, and cabinets which have blessed the homes of his wife, children and grandchildren and his livelihood will be cherished through these artifacts for generations to come.
Dale is survived by his wife Delores, daughters Kathleen (Dean)Erickson, Bismarck, and Susan (Peter)Anderson, Lodgepole, sons James Thormodsgard, Miles City, MT., Neil (Karen)Thormodsgard, Briggsdale, CO., and Allen Thormodsgard, Edmond, OK., 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Norman, daughter in law Vonda, parents Nels and Dagna Thormodsgard, brother Norman (WWII), sister Mayme and her husband Andrew Erickson, and brother in law Harold Oster.
