Lorraine W. Hirning
(May 13, 1920 - December 26, 2011)
Funeral services for Lorraine W. Hirning, age 91 of New Salem, formerly of Elgin, will be held at 2:00pm MT on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Hope Congregational Church in Elgin. Pastor Bill Bradley will officiate with burial in the Hope Congregational cemetery in Elgin.
Special music will be provided by Mona Hands and Pastor Bill Bradley.
Serving as casketbearers are Kris Lahn, Scott Reinke, Donald Roth, Darwin Roth, and Clarence Roth Jr., and Mark Peterson
LORRAINE W. GRUEBELE was born on May 13, 1920 in Elgin, ND to William and Sara (Diehl) Gruebele. She attended school in Elgin. On October 26, 1941, she was united in marriage to Oscar Hirning in Elgin. Following their marriage, they lived for a short time on a farm north of Burt until Oscar was called into active duty during WWII. Following his return, the Hirning’s purchased a farm west of Carson. Three children were born to this union, Doris, Gerald, and Glen.
The Hirnings farmed together enjoying the various aspects of agriculture. She especially enjoyed working with the dairy cattle. They retired and moved into Elgin in 1980. Her husband, Oscar passed away in 1993 and she continued to live in Elgin. When her health began to fail, she moved to the Edgewood Vista in Bismarck. Since July of 2008, she has resided at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem. She passed from this life there on Monday, December 26, 2011 at the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 13 days.
Lorraine was known for her cooking skills and loved to spend time growing vegetables and flowers, and always kept a neat and tidy house and yard.
Surviving family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Rich Ott, Bismarck, ND; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Pauline Hirning, Elk River, MN; 4 grandchildren, Scott (Angela) Reinke, Fargo, ND; Melissa Hirning, Heidi (Kris) Lahn, Sherri Hirning, all of suburban Minneapolis, MN; 5 great grandchildren, Alexandra Reinke, Blake Lahn, Gavin Lahn, Addison Lahn, and Chase Lahn, and her brother and sister-in-law, Reinhardt and Elvera Gruebele, Glen Ullin, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oscar, and infant son, Glen Hirning, and one sister, Eleanor Roth.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 29, from 1:00 to 2:00pm CT at the Elm Crest Manor in New Salem, and on Friday one hour prior to services at the Hope Congregational Church in Elgin.

Marjorie Wilson
(March 4, 1923 - November 25, 2011)
Funeral services for Marjorie J. Wilson, age 88, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Hettinger, ND, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the Hettinger Lutheran Church. Pastor Kathleen Dettmann will officiate with burial in the Hettinger cemetery.
Marjorie Joyce Kroft was born on March 4, 1923 to Herman and Ethel (Henley) Kroft at Hettinger, ND. She attended school in Hettinger and graduated from Hettinger High School in 1941. While in school, Marjorie was an alto saxophone player in the Hettinger Cowboy Band. Following her graduation she taught at the Wilson School near Lodgepole, SD. While teaching she boarded at the Gardner Wilson Ranch and there she met Clay Wilson. They were united in marriage on May 19, 1943. Four daughters were born to this union.
Marjorie raised her family and worked on the farm with her husband. In 1989, Marjorie and Clay moved to Hettinger. Following Clay’s death on September 22, 2006, Marjorie moved to Bismarck and entered the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. She resided there until her passing on Friday, November 25, 2011.
Marjorie will be remembered for her passion of life and love, filled with music, dancing, community plays and card parties.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her four daughters, Bonnie (Sam) Inga, Elizabeth, CO, Beverly Marion, Detroit Lakes, MN, Leah Gunther, Hettinger, ND and Rhonda (Steve) Haegele, Bismarck, ND; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clay Wilson; three sisters, Lola Glass, Carol Merwin and LaDonna Feryance; and one brother, Royal Kroft.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday morning.
Delmar D. Imhoff
(March 4, 1944 - November 23, 2011)
Delmar D. Imhoff, age 67 of Bismarck, formerly of Mott, passed away on Wednesday morning, November 23, 2011 at MedCenter One in Bismarck.
The Funeral Service for Delmar will be held at 1:00pm MT on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott. Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial in the Congregational cemetery at New Leipzig.
Serving as casketbearers are Ron Reich, Randy Reich, Les Haberstroh, and Dennis Boknecht.
DELMAR DUANE IMHOFF was born March 4, 1944 in Elgin, ND to Emil and Lydia (Reich) Imhoff. He attended a one room school house in Solen Township until the fifth grade. He then attended Mott Public School graduating in 1962. Delmar attended Dickinson State College graduating in 1966. In the fall of 1966, he began teaching at the Elgin Public School. He taught Chemistry, Physics, Algebra, and Physical Science. It was his first and last teaching job retiring after 28 years.
Delmar also farmed together with his parents and took over the family farm when his dad retired. Delmar retired from teaching and farming in 1997.
Delmar married
Charlene Huether in 1967. Their son Darrell was born in 1968. Delmar married
Peggy Tasted in 1985. Their daughter Kristi was born in 1986.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Elgin Lions Club for 10 years, and served as Secretary and President. Delmar was a member of the Dickinson Elks Lodge for many years.
In 2001, Delmar suffered a stroke and then moved into The Terrace in Bismarck.
He is survived by his son, Darrell, Bismarck, ND; and daughter, Kristina, all of Minot, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 5:00pm MT on Sunday at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott.
Alice Lee

Funeral services for Alice Lee, age 76, of Hettinger, ND, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Hettinger Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Haynes cemetery.
Alice passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.
She is survived by her two sons, Lynn Lee, Green River, WY and Alvin “Bud” Lee, Kearns, UT; one daughter, Laura Lee, Kearns, UT; two grandchildren, Vhanessa Lee and Amber Lee; four great-grandchildren, Jordan Tyner, Tatym Smith, Chryshun Lee and Layha Smith; four brothers, Skip “Alden” Bartels, Tacoma, WA, Francis (Lucille) Bartels, Haynes, ND, John Bartels, Hillsboro, ND and Arlin (Betty) Bartels, Lemmon, SD; and five sisters, Joyce Wolff, Seattle, WA, Janice Barone, Aberdeen, SD, Eunice (Harry) Schneider, Bismarck, ND, Karen Clement, Hettinger, ND and Sherrill Bartels, Woodenville, WA.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Lee; three brothers-in-law, Jake Wolff, Loren Barone and Bob Clement; two sisters-in-law, Armeda Bartels and Shirley Bartels; on neice, Rhonda Bartels; and one nephew-in-law, Joe Miath.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home (former First Congregational Church) in Hettinger and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday morning.

Roland Lee "Bud" Miller

Funeral services for Roland Lee "Bud" Miller, 88, of Hettinger, ND will be Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger. Rev. Judy Banwart will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger cemetery. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9 at the Centennial Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning. A gathering of family and friends will be on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Centennial Chapel.
Roland Lee "Bud" Miller was born on December 27th, 1923 to Edwin and Lavina Butterfield Miller in Hettinger, ND. He grew up on his parent’s farm at Lodgepole, SD, with his brother Gordon and sisters Caryl, Joyce and Dorothy. He attended grade school at Lodgepole, SD, high at Hettinger ND graduating in 1941. He went to vocational school in Denver, CO, after graduating he worked on the PBY Catalina at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, CA. He returned to Lodgepole and worked with his father on the farm.
He married
Shirley Bracewell on December 25th, 1945 at Salt Lake City Utah. (He picked this date so he would never forget his anniversary!). They were happily married
for 66 years.
Bud and Shirley moved to Bellflower, CA where Bud worked at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Company in Downey, CA. Their daughter Connie was born while in CA. In 1947 they moved to Lodgepole and took over the farm after his father’s retirement. Here they completed their family with another daughter Cindy and 3 sons, Lauren, Leo and Lane. Bud loved to fish, play cards and tell stories. His pride and joy were his cattle. He was a steward of the land. He was on the founding board of the West River Telephone Cooperative. He held many offices with the Perkins County Cattleman’s Association, served as a director on the Perkins County Soil Conversation Board, was a officer on the Lodgepole School Board and served as a 4H leader. He loved sports events and attended many that his sons participated in. He was member of The United Church of Christ in Hettinger, ND
In his retirements years he and Shirley loved to travel, spending winters in southern CA, trips to Mexico, Branson, MO, Deadwood and Mobridge, SD, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. They attended many family reunions in Iowa, South Dakota and Wyoming. After retirement he took up wood carving, attending many conventions and always returning with ideas for the next year’s project. He did a lot of wood refinishing for his daughter’s.
Roland “Bud” Miller passed away on March 2nd, 2012 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND. Bud will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who loved his family. He was always there to help his neighbors when needed.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Shirley and their children, Connie, Cindy (Roy), Leo (Debbie), Lane (Kristi) and daughter-in-law Deb, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Hugh Thompson, brother-in-law Tony Ihle and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his son, Lauren, son-in-law Toms Sims, brother and his wife Gordon and Naomi Miller, sister and her husband, Caryl and Franklin Pratt and sister Dorothy Ihle, his maternal grandparents Ed and Ella (Brown) Butterfield and parental grandparents Christin John and Rosa (Kahley) Miller, his mother and father in law Laurence and Dava (Shelley) Bracewell.
LaFern Catherine Rosenberg
(June 18, 1919 - February 14, 2012)
LaFern Rosenberg passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in Mott at the age of 92 years.
LaFern Catherine Schumacher was born June 18, 1919 in Mott, ND to Henry and Florence (DeKelver) Schumacher; the youngest of four daughters. LaFern was raised on a farm North of Mott, graduating from Mott Lincoln High School in 1938.
LaFern was united in marriage to Phillip G. Dauenhauer on June 18, 1938 at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church. They farmed and raised their 4 children on their farm north of Mott. Phillip was employed by the ASCS office. LaFern was an Avon representative and enjoyed working at the Playhouse Theater. Phillip passed away on October 28, 1977.
LaFern married
Rudolph Rosenberg on November 22, 1979 in Las Vegas, NV. They lived in Texas and Minot, ND. Rudy past away in May of 2001.
LaFern continued living in Minot until she moved to Dakota Hills in Elgin, ND where she lived for eight years. Since 2009 she has been a resident of Mott Good Samaritan Society.
LaFern was a member of Saint Vincent’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Royal Neighbors, the American Legion Auxiliary and a local Mott Bridge Club.
LaFern enjoyed traveling; in later years she had the opportunity to experience cruises and Europe. She was known to always map out her route in detail before heading anywhere, always staying along the way with family and friends. She was a great conversationalist and knew no strangers; she was the life of the party. LaFern was loving and generous with her time, very spunky, strong headed and opinionated. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving family members include Craig (Donna) Dauenhauer, Safford, AZ; Penny (Elmer) Bertsch, Hastings MN; and Carter Dauenhauer, Longville, LA; 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren.
LaFern was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a son, Kim David Dauenhauer, great grandson, Grayson Skinner and sisters, Ella Warren, Lauratta Krebs and Grace Stinemetz.
A memorial service will be held in July with inurnment at Sunnyslope cemetery in Mott, ND.
Joyce Marian Perfett
(December 12, 1927 - February 12, 2012)
Funeral Services for Joyce Perfett, age 84 of Hettinger, ND will be Friday, February 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hettinger. Rev. Judy Banwart will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger cemetery. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Centennial Chapel (formerly the First Congregational Church) in Hettinger and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday afternoon. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Centennial Chapel.
Joyce Marian Moeller was born on Dec. 12, 1927 in Hettinger, ND to George and Eva (Goffe) Moeller. She attended and graduated from Hettinger High School in 1945. Joyce later met and married
Richard Perfett on October 4, 1948 in Bowman, ND.
After the marriage they lived in Hettinger, ND. To this union seven children were born. Through the years she worked at the School, Hillcrest Care Center and the Adams County Courthouse until she retired in 1990.
After Joyce retired, she did Volunteer jobs at the Clothes Closet, Food Pantry and helped serve noon meals at the Senior Citizen's Center. Joyce enjoyed baking, watching baseball games, reading, family reunions, coffee time with her friends and spending time with her family.
Joyce passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Western Horizons Care Center in Hettinger.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Arlis (Alvin) Heupel, Hettinger, Barb (Dean) Schlangen, Cresco, IA, Craig Perfett, Gillette, WY, Duane Perfett, Gladstone, ND, David Perfett, Deadwood, SD, Cindy (Shawn) Silkman, Clark, SD and Becky (Bill) Holt, Ralph, SD; 23 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, two brothers, one sister and three grandsons.
Duane L. Boyce

Duane L. Boyce, 69, of Hettinger, ND passed away at his home, Boyce Machine Shop in Hettinger, ND.
Services are pending at this time with the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger.
Rita Rae Zeller Striegel
(September 26, 1932 - February 4, 2012)
Rita Rae Zeller Striegel, Leith, ND, died Saturday morning, February 4, at the Glendive Medical Center, Glendive, MT. She was 79 years old.
Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am. MST, Tuesday, February 7, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Carson, ND. Following burial at the Leith cemetery, lunch will be served at the 4-H Building on the Grant County Fair Grounds.
Serving as active Casketbearers are Terry Haberstroh, Jeff Ulrich, Danny Hauge, Curt Kauffman, Kevin Bachmeier and Jim Lodoen. All of Rita’s grandchildren are honorary Casketbearers.
Rita Rae was born September 26, 1932, in Leith, ND, to Julius and Marjorie Andersen Zeller. She attended school in Leith and earned her Teaching Degree from Dickinson State College. Rita taught in elementary schools at Lark, Leith and Carson, ND.
Rita married
Duane Striegel on March 4, 1951. They lived for a short time in northern Minnesota where Duane was a truck driver in the Iron Range and then in Coleharbor, ND, where Duane drove truck during construction of the Garrison Dam. In 1955, Rita and Duane began farming with Duane's father and brother at Leith. In 1959 they purchased the farm. Striegel Ranch became known for its high quality Simmental cattle.
Rita and Duane had seven children. Barry and Bruce were born in 1951, Terrie in 1953, Julie in 1955, Melody in 1957, Jerome in 1961 and Jim in 1970. Bruce died shortly after birth and Jerome was drowned in Costa Rica in 1984 while working with the International 4-H organization.
Rita was an active community member. She was a 4-H leader for more than 30 years, Church organist, Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She helped establish the Special Education Program in the Elgin School and organize the Leith Centennial Celebration in 2009. Rita had leadership roles in the National Tarentaise Association and the North Dakota and National Simmental Associations. She was a member of the Memorial Seventh Cavalry Troop, which represented North Dakota in the 100th Rose Bowl Parade.
Rita was a hard working farm wife, loving mother and grandmother, happy and welcome friend and compassionate Christian woman. She was known for her infectious giggle, award winning show calf tails, patience, sense of humor and her bean soup, chocolate pies and fried dumplings
Survivors include son Barry, Grand Forks; daughter Terrie and son-in-law Virgil Grenz, Fargo; daughter Julie, Fargo; daughter Melody, son-in-law Tony and their daughters, Jenna, Carmen, Amber and Kate; and son, Jim, daughter-in-law Lea and their children, Ashlyn and Brett; sister-in-law Dorothy Zeller, bother and sister-in-law Gordon and Charlotte Timboe, bother and sister-in-law Curt and Maurine Striegel; bother and sister-in-law Tom and Hazel McDowall; Aunt and Uncle Doris and Cal Davis of Cottage Grove, Oregon and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents Julius and Marjorie Zeller; sister Joyce; brother Ron; sons Bruce and Jerome and granddaughter Kayla.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday morning.
