Glen Sauter
GOODRICH -- Glen Sauter, 53, Goodrich, died July 21, 2001, in the Harvey hospital from injuries suffered while working on his car in Goodrich. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Goodrich. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 7:30 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Glen was born June 20, 1948, in Harvey, the son of Alvin and Ruth (Dockter) Sauter. He grew up on a farm near Goodrich. He attended rural school and graduated from Goodrich High School in 1966. He then attended Wahpeton State School of Science. Glen married Cheryl Lindquist on Dec. 14, 1968, at Cambridge, Minn. They lived in Cambridge. In April 1969 he entered the Army and served in Vietnam and in Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and they moved to Dalbo, Minn. He worked at a John Deere dealership in Cambridge. They moved to Goodrich in 1977 and purchased Goodrich Machine. Glen continued to own and operate the business as Prairie Auto Parts. More recently they owned and operated the Double Vision Bar in Goodrich. He also drove truck and helped with the farming operation with Frueh Farms of Goodrich. Glen was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He served as the Goodrich mayor for 12 years, as member and secretary treasurer of the Goodrich Fire Department and as a member and past commander of the Albert Block American Legion Post No. 56. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Darin Frueh, Goodrich; one son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Lisa, Bismarck; one grandson, Sheldon Freuh; his mother, Ruth, Goodrich; and one brother, Larry, Goodrich. He was preceded in death by his father in 1998.
Leone Schroedl
Leone S. Schroedl, 86, Bismarck, died July 20, 2001, in a local care center. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Edwin Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. today at St. Vincent's Care Center, and from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a rosary vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Leone Steichen was born Oct. 4, 1914, at White Lake, S.D., the daughter of Mathias and Susan (Serres) Steichen. She attended school at White Lake. Following graduation from high school, she attended South Dakota Teachers College in Aberdeen, S.D. She then taught in rural schools. Leone married Andrew Schroedl on Oct. , 1939, at White Lake. She worked at St. Alexius Hospital as a nurse's aide for 17 years, 13 of which were in the emergency room where she was a comfort to many who needed a gentle hand. Leone cared about people and enjoyed sharing her crocheting, quilting and cooking with family and friends. Leone enjoyed gardening and playing bridge and whist with her friends. She and Andrew were great round and square dancers. They attended square dancing conventions and also provided half-time entertainment at local basketball games. She is survived by her husband, Andrew; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Ed Korpi, Escanaba, Mich.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Sarabeth Schroedl, Canal Fulton, Ohio, Michael and Pauline Schroedl, Newport News, Va., and Stephen and Colleen Schroedl, Clayton, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie and Marie; and two brothers, Raymond and Lawrence.

Eleanor Zimmerman, 82, Bismarck, died July 22, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with the Rev. Arnold Spain officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Eleanor was born March 5, 1919, the daughter of Nicholas and Pauline (Glasser) Stumpf, in New Salem. She was raised and educated in New Salem and Richardton. She worked as a waitress in Richardton, where she met her husband Jake. Eleanor married Jake Zimmerman in October 1940. After their marriage they farmed in Taylor until 1956, when they moved to Seattle and later to California. They then moved to Bismarck and she began working at Larson Music and Coast to Coast, where she worked for many years. She also worked at the Bismarck Motor Motel for many years. Eleanor was a lifetime member of the Eagles. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed babysitting the grandchildren. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Marlene Zimmerman, Gordon and Gloria Zimmerman and Rodney and Gail Zimmerman, all of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Bob Bitz, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Hruby and Ann Hager, both of Bismarck; and three brothers, John Stumpf, Joe Stumpf and Frank Stumpf, all of Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; her parents; two sisters; and one brother.

DICKINSON -- Jon David Hicks, 33, Dickinson, died July 21, 2001, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. MDT Wednesday at First Congregational Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Peggy Harris officiating. Jon was born April 23, 1968, in Portland, Ore., to Judy (Hoffman) and Alamander Hicks. The family moved to Dickinson in 1974, where Jon attended Dickinson Public Schools, graduating from Dickinson High School in 1986. In August 1986, Jon moved to Vancouver, Wash., where he attended Clark Community College and worked the next several years in electronics. He moved back to Dickinson in January 2000 to further his education at Dickinson State University. Jon enjoyed music, driving, his dog Spanky, fishing, swimming, fireworks, his family, special friends and being back in North Dakota. Jon was a member of First Congregational Church, where he was active in the choir, and had been a member of Dickinson State University Business Club. He is survived by his parents, Judith, Dickinson, and Al, Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Donna (Rick) Farnsworth, Hillsboro, Ore.; one brother, James "Jamie" Hicks, Battleground, Wash.; one half-brother, Robby, Vancouver, Wash.; two nieces, Holly Renee Hicks and Brittney Newell; his paternal grandmother, Hilda Mae Hicks; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Frances Hoffman; and his paternal grandfather, Woodrow Wilson Hicks. Warren Larson
Warren P. Larson, 73, Mandan, died July 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Mandan United Methodist Church, 610 12th St. N.W., with the Rev. Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors by Bismarck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue for one hour before services at the church. Warren was born Nov. 11, 1927, at Wakonda, S.D., the son of Walter and Martha (Anderson) Larson. The family lived there for two years before moving to Stockholm, S.D., where he was raised and educated. In 1946, Warren enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving for 18 months, eight of which were spent in Korea. He farmed for a time after his discharge and married Alice Pekelder on Nov. 17, 1951. They moved to Watertown, S.D., where he worked for General Mills for two years before beginning his 33 and 1/2 years of employment as a driver for Dan Dugan Transport. Warren and Alice had made their home in Mandan since 1976. When Dan Dugan ceased operations, he worked as a truck driver for various firms until his retirement in 1986. He then worked for the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District at the Tom O'Leary Golf Course for 12 years. Warren was a retired Teamster and was a member of the Amvets Club and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and camping. His favorite pastime and way of getting away from it all was gardening. He always had a beautiful yard full of flowers and found special pleasure in caring for his roses. Warren will be deeply missed by his family and particularly his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice; his daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Rick Smith, Mandan; his sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Donna, New Salem, and Rodney, Mandan; eight grandchildren, Chad Sletten, Danette Larson, Shari Sletten, Kyle Sletten, Derek Larson, and Jeremiah, Tia and Mariah Smith; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Larson and Madison DeWald; and one brother and two sisters-in-law, Milo and Jean Larson, Ontario, Calif., and Fern Larson, Madison, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Melvin; and his brother-in-law, Harvey Pekelder.

Francis J. Rothschiller, 79, Mandan, died July 22, 2001, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military rites by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 707 and Mandan American Legion Post 40. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Francis J. Rothschiller was born Nov. 6, 1921, to Frank and Elizabeth (Fischer) Rothschiller, in Bismarck. He attended St. Mary's Elementary and High schools in Bismarck. Francis served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. Following that he served 20 years in the North Dakota National Guard. As he was growing up he worked with his father at Frank's Produce in Mandan. He owned Mandan Iron and Metal. In later years, he worked for Porter Brothers and retired from there. Francis was married to Pauline Lanz and they had eleven children. He is survived by eight sons and six daughters-in-law, Frank and Gail, Bismarck, Mike, Huntington Beach, Calif., Mark and Dorothy, Mandan, Paul and Linda, Bismarck, Jim and Jill, Plano, Texas, Joe and Carlene, Dickinson, Bob and Laurie, Mandan, and Jake, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Randy Volz, Federal Way, Wash., and Anne and Dennis Helbling, Mandan; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers; seven sisters; one aunt; and one uncle. His parents and one son preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or Cystic Fibrosis Association of North Dakota.
