ASHLEY -- Lea Franz, 86, Ashley, died March 28, 2001, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ashley Baptist Church. Further arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.
Jacob Heupel Jr.
ELGIN -- Services for Jacob Heupel Jr., 84, Elgin, will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Saturday at Hope Conservative Congregational Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Ellis Ryherd officiating. Burial will be in Hope Congregational Cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin, where a family service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.
Serving as casketbearers will be his grandsons, William, Gregg, Tracy, Damon, Jason and Raymond Heupel, Mark Weishaar, and Jeremy and Sean Jacobson. All friends and family are considered honorary bearers.
Jacob Heupel Jr. was born Oct. 29, 1916, at Elgin, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Boehler) Heupel Sr. He attended German School District north of Elgin. Jacob served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked mainly on projects in California. He was united in marriage to Ida Lenora Will on July 9, 1943, at New Leipzig. Jacob and Ida lived on the family farm north of Elgin until July 1976, when they retired and moved into Elgin. Jacob enjoyed returning to the family homestead. After moving into Elgin he worked for the City of Elgin in the Green Thumb Program for several years. Since September 1998, he has resided at the Bismarck Baptist Home. He passed from this life on March 27, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital.
He particularly enjoyed fishing and woodworking, and loved animals.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ida; two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Georgia, Tuttle, and Melvin and Erlene, Bismarck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ardella and Kenneth Weishaar, New Leipzig, Shirley and Gary Monson, Lincoln, and Sandra and James Jacobson, Mandan; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Herbert Blumhardt, Elgin; and one sister-in-law, Martha Heupel, Elgin.
He was preceded in death by one son, Roger; one grandson, Michael Weishaar; three brothers, Emanuel, Oscar and Arthur Heupel; and two sisters, Alvina Schutz and Lydia Ruff.
Drake LaRock
Drake Aiden Stone LaRock, the infant son of Laurel Driver and Edward LaRock, Killdeer, was stillborn March 28, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Big Lake Cemetery, Cannon Ball. Further arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

TIOGA -- Oliver Nelson, 86, Tioga, died Marth 29, 2001, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at United Lutheran Church, Flaxton, with burial in Flaxton Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; one son, Kenny, Bowbells; two daughters, Beverly Jacobson, Tioga, and LaVerna Hughey, Devils Lake; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Floyd, Flaxton. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Tioga)
Florence Schaefer
Florence Schaefer, 66, Mandan, died March 28, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, Mandan, with Gabriel Krause performing the service.
Florence was born on Dec. 12, 1934, the daughter of Robert and Adeline (Delzer) Gomke in Elgin. She attended school in Carson. She lived in Plains, Mont., for eight years before making her home in Mandan. She enjoyed spending time with her family and congregation.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Urla and Reuben Hauck, Mandan; three granddaughters, Pennie Hauck, Mandan, Nichole and her husband, Steve Norton, Mandan, and Angela Hauck, Mandan; one great-granddaughter, Chelsey Norton, Mandan; her mother, Adeline, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Marlene Gomke, Mandan; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mae Fried, Plains, Joyce and Harold Kitzan, Glen Ullin, Sandra and Leroy Werner, Menoken, and Linda and Leroy Smith, Watonga, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Gomke; and one brother, Robert Lee. (Bismarck Funeral Home)
